LOOK PLAN PLAY Join the learning team and our Creative Practitioners for a guided tour of the gallery looking at everything you need to know before you plan your visit. LOOK PLAN PLAY offers an opportunity to try out our self-directed resources for yourself and to ask any questions before you bring your class. These sessions are free of charge, however places are limited and we ask that no more than four teachers from any one school book the same session.

SKILL UP These practical artist-led sessions are designed to be fun and inspirational. They allow you to work with an artist to explore an element of artistic practice that can be taken back into the classroom. Each session will begin with a tour of the exhibition by one of our curators. Cost for sessions: Primary £10*, Secondary, free*. Drawing from Experience 4-6.30pm on 7 November 2012 (Primary) and 8 November 2012 (Secondary) In the 1940s Hepworth drew from the experience of watching her daughter undergo surgery, observing procedures and working them up into sketches – 60 of which exist to create a journal of her observations. Working with the idea of a ‘journal of observations’ and personal memories, you will work with artist Laura Slater to make your own sketchbook and start your very own visual journal. The Timeless Property of Plaster 4-6.30pm on 12 March 2013 (Primary) and 13 March 2013 (Secondary) This spring, artists Alice Channer, Linder Sterling and Jessica Jackson Hutchins have made work inspired by the idea of the Hepworth Gift, a collection of plasters, working models by Barbara Hepworth. Explore the medium both past and present and try your hand at your own plaster sculptures with Victoria Lucas. Collaboration in the Making 4-6.30pm on 18 June 2013 (Primary) and 19 June 2013 (Secondary) Mixing things up: Haroon Mirza works across installation, intervention, sculpture and sound to create works that mix up references from popular culture. Work with artist Gillian Brent and DJ Reuben Griffiths to create a large-scale collective installation that incorporates sculpture and sound. This is a chance to get stuck into some large-scale making and to explore ideas of team work, negotiation and shared aesthetics.

Early Years and Primary 4-6pm on 18 September 2012, 20 November 2012, 12 February 2013 and 14 May 2013 For Early Years and Primary don’t forget we run sessions focused on literacy, drama and music as well as visual art. Secondary and Post-16 4-6pm on 25 September 2012, 27 November 2012, 26 February 2013 and 21 May 2013 Don’t forget to tell your English and Music teachers to come along and find out how we use the gallery using different disciplines.
