OLD HOME WEEK 2022 | 15
‘Teach Love Inspire’ with the Loyal Daughters By Tamela Baker
For about 100 years, the Greencastle Loyal Daughters have existed to “advance the welfare of Greencastle and to mold the past with the present.” The group meets once every three years during Old Home Week to renew acquaintances, welcome new members and enjoy a special themed program. That tradition continues this year with “Teach Love Inspire” — a program to celebrate teachers. The meeting begins with registration and displays at 1 p.m., followed by the program at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, in Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, 24 Kauffman
Road East. This is a new location as the group has outgrown its previous meeting site. More than 400 attended the gathering in 2019. Dr. Lura Hanks, Greencastle-Antrim School District superintendent, will be on hand this year to “tell her story,” according to Loyal Daughters President Dotti Zimmerman, including “how she got into education, why she got into education, what inspired her to become a teacher” and eventually superintendent. A panel of past and current district teachers will then participate in a discussion moderated by Zimmerman.
