There was a little girl. Sweet. Quiet. Smiled softly but with those little dimples, you know? She didn’t have a whole lot of friends. At age seven she seemed to have a steady mind. Intelligent and a good problem solver. But not so ready to “take on the world.” At age nine she started showing signs of departure. She wasn’t comfortable with or around others unless she was acting like someone else. Lost. Noticed by her parents, this behavior did not sit well. They were new to this world of parenting a child that may suffer from what society will label....issues. The best they could do. That’s what parents do right? Off to the medical facility they went. While there, they were given the news that this sweet 9-year-old child would be required to take a certain medication in order to “function” within our society. Conform. Over time the illness spread. The medication held the “issues” at bay, yet the underlying problem never faded. There it lurked and waited for the right moment… 9-years-old soon became thirty-nine. Lurking demons find a way. Somehow they just do. Night after night. Day after day of booze, pills, and other pharmaceuticals to try and keep control. 59 times around the sun. Alone… She walks with her head down pushing the box over to her corner of the sidewalk. She has a sign to hold, but it doesn’t matter. It’s just a way to go another day. She’s surrounded by lost souls from all walks, but she has no clue which one she is from. Gone... No memory. No family. No self. Only an empty bottle of pills that represents so much to her. Mostly, it represents the lies that were told. The salesmanship of the dealer. The real drug pushers in this world. What if that 9-year-old child’s confused and helpless parents were given at least the option of cannabis? Cover Art She will never know... ~Bridges

With school well underway for us, we’re all probably asking ourselves what we can do to create consistency and calm in our daily school routines. Whether you are using distance learning, homeschool, or on-site learning, one thing we know for sure if we wanna equip our families for a successful, and healthy, school year. Therapeutic grade essential oils have been part of my household’s daily wellness routine for about 7 years now, but over time we have learned how to pair essential oil blends with cannabis strains that compliment them. Since so many other plant oils have therapeutic benefits, this makes them a helpful tool for any cannabis therapy plan. Y’all. I’m truly excited to share this with you today. (Psssst! I’m not just talking to the pediatric patients, everyone can benefit from these powerful duos.) Cindy 99 + Focus essential oil blend Depending on the grower, the cannabis profile may vary, but you should expect hints of pine, pepper and citrus to help keep you on track. For this reason ‘Blue Dream’ is a great focus strain as well. Focus essential oil blends contain oils like peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus and pine. Durban poison + immune essential oil blend This tough guy is full of attitude and ready to boost your immune system, expect to smell hints of spice, mint and pepper. Likewise, the essential oil blend usually contains orange, frankincense, rosemary, cinnamon and many more. Purple Kush + Restful or Grounding blends When it’s time for sleep, this team will help you out! Notes or herbs, pine and spice... this will help calm, while also easing any aches. Blends that promote sleep may contain lavender, sandalwood, pepper and chamomile. For easy mixing and application, try these in a topical lotion! Recipe: 1 part bee’s wax 1 part Shea butter 2 parts cannabis oil of your choosing (personally, I prefer light oils, like sunflower oil, for skin care products.)

By Michael Kinney Barbara Gammill wasn’t in a good place. When the Texas native left the military, not only had she been damaged physically, but she was also mentally and emotionally in pieces. At the time Gammill said she was downing prescription pills daily and she wasn’t getting any better. She believed was going to have to continue to suffer the rest of her life. “You don’t understand, I used to take handfuls of pills to try and sleep and I would still go three or four days without sleeping, period,” Gammill said. “And then I would only sleep three or four hours. But like those three to four days I wasn’t sleeping, I was fucking crazy. I really was.” However, a trip to the Pacific Northwest, a law change in Oklahoma and a hidden talent exposed led to Gammill turning her life around and becoming a heavily sought after artist with edibles. But even more importantly for Gammill, her deep dive into the world of edibles has become a form of therapy. “It helps me completely get out of my head. When I get lost in my head, it helps me to get out of my head because I am completely focused and a lot of times I know that my edibles are going to help someone,” Gammill said. “So knowing that I’m doing something that’s going to help someone else. I think that too, that it helps me to focus more on that. And I just forget about all the shit in my head.” Gammill is preparing to audition for a Netflix show called Cooked with Cannabis. In it chefs compete to get the hosts and special guests high on elevated cannabis cuisine with their artful use of leafy herb, THC infusions and CBD sauces. The audition will be Aug. 27 in Los Angeles. “I’m going to do spinach and artichoke dip for my appetizer, and then we’re going to do chicken dijon for the entrée,” Gammill said. “And then we’re going to do a strawberry shortcake type thing.”

It’s the type of opportunity only come along once and it could change Gammill’s life forever. However, when 35-year old Gammill looks back more than a decade, there is no way she could have envisioned herself at this point in her life. She was still in the military and just living a military life. Gammill then had a life-changing moment. “I went to Iraq, and I watched six of my friends die 50 feet in front of me in an explosion,” Gammill said. “I was blown backwards, and I hit my head on a metal building. I was in a coma for two and a half weeks. Have a major TBI and that turned into epilepsy.” Because of her epilepsy and PTSD, Gammill was medically retired from the military. She returned to Fort Worth, but her condition wasn’t improving. So she decided to head north and came to Oklahoma for a fresh start. Gammill wanted to help others and looked at becoming a nurse. “When I got out, I actually met my husband while I was in nursing school,” Gammill said. “But I was told I was never going to get the license with the diagnosis of epilepsy. I fought to stay in, but they didn’t want me to stay in.” The medication Gammill was getting from the VA wasn’t helping her the way she needed to be able to function in society. But that was when Gammill saw there might be another way. “For 10 years, the VA shoved handfuls of pills down my throat. I wasn’t getting any better. My body was killing me,” Gammill said. “And then my brother-in-law and my husband were like, “oh, you should try marijuana, I think it would really help.’” The light bulb flipped on in Gammill’s head, but there wasn’t much she could do about it at the time. Since she lived in Oklahoma and marijuana was still illegal, she just put the idea to the backburner. “I seriously, for the longest time, thought that was going to be my life, I thought I was going to be dead by the time I was 40, I’m not going to lie,” Gammill said. “And my doctors were like, “if you live to be 40, it’ll be amazing.’ And then my husband and I, we went to Oregon and I kept seeing all of those marijuana shops and I got curious and I was like, let’s go, because it was recreational. So we went and we bought some and I tried it and that was the first night I was able to fall asleep and I didn’t have to take a handful of pills to fall asleep.” Despite the wonderous effects Gammill said marijuana had on her, she only tried it that one time. When she returned to Oklahoma,

-Mom is Back-

it was still illegal for her to use in 2016. But that changed in 2018 when Oklahoma residents voted to legalize medical marijuana. It meant Gammill could get her Medical Marijuana License and use cannabis to help control her epilepsy. According to Gammill, everything changed for her then. “You can ask my children, mom is back to being her normal self that she was before she went to Iraq,” Gammill said. “They want me to smoke because they see how much better of a person I am. How much better of a person and my quality of life is. “My husband used to have to call 911, four to seven times a month to come get me and take me to the hospital,” Gammill continued. “Cause if the seizure lasts longer than five minutes, he supposed to call 911. Now we’ve been down in the Ardmore area for a little over a year and we haven’t had to call 911, but maybe one time. I have epilepsy now, but not going to let it stop me.” With her card, Gammill was able to go into dispensaries and try different strains of marijuana. Then one day she decided to try an edible. According to her, she not only didn’t feel anything, but it also didn’t taste good. So once again, the light bulb flipped on for Gammill. “I was growing at the time, I had a bunch of stuff to grow,” Gammill said. “And so I had all this trim and I was like, I should try to make something of my own.” Gammill started with coconut oil and gummies. She admitted it wasn’t the perfect start for her. “I made coconut oil first and I attempted gummies, Oh my God, the first time I made gummies, they were awful,” Gammill said. “The coconut oil and the jello separated and it was the nastiest thing I’ve ever tasted. Now my gummies are almost perfect. They’re amazing.” Since then, Gammill’s culinary skills have spread out. She says her best dishes include brownies or cereal bars or fudge. And she does a mean strawberry cheesecake. “When I bake, my mind doesn’t think about anything else. It’s the best therapy I’ve ever done in my entire life,” Gammill said. “So a lot of people, they’ll see posts on Facebook at like two or three in the morning, and then they’ll see like 20 posts of different edibles. They’ll be like, do you not sleep? And I’ll be like, if you see a bunch of pictures in the middle of the night, it’s because I couldn’t sleep and I needed therapy. So I bake so I don’t go back to that dark place that I was in before. So to me, it’s therapeutic. It’s nice.” 07

Growth Spurts

TAB MOURA

Pediatric cannabis therapy

I’m sitting here listening to my children play in the other room, and I cannot stop pinching myself. We have been on a wild ride together, but I’m watching their medicine do far more than we ever anticipated when we first started this journey. Today I want to share some real with you. Cannabis therapy has real results, and it will always have real challenges as well. A challenge many pediatric caregivers are faced with, is how to manage medicine changes during growth spurts. My children have used cannabis therapy for a year now, give or take... and boy have things changed. For those just joining us, my daughters are all autistic and have a few co morbid conditions we have been treating with cannabis. Since we first jumped in, their routine has changed in a few keys ways. My oldest’s metabolism is double speed during a growth spurt, so her insomnia bedtime-dose was no longer effective. We remedied this with some experimentation: increasing CBD, tolerance breaks*, introducing higher THC isolates, etc. Ultimately we decided she just needed more, because her body was changing rapidly and in big ways. You know what I didn’t hear from her during those few months? She never complained about growth pains. My middle child was first given CBD, because she would experience night terrors that lasted for up to 30 minutes, and she never woke gently from naps. When she hit a growth spurt and it seemed clear that her issues were worsening, we gave her full spectrum cannabis. Now she’s 5, sleeps wonderfully and even naps without a harsh awakening. My youngest just turned 3 and is hitting a growth spurt right now (lord help me, 3yo’s have superhuman energy.) Our doctor recommended cannabis for her, along with her sisters, because at the time she was failing to thrive, and beginning to follow in her older sister’s shoes with night terrors, and also a severe language delay. Eating issues are common with autism, but she was not doing well. When her recent growth spurt began, she was eating me out of house and home (yay!), but she couldn’t sleep, and was struggling to speak. This is, naturally, a frustrating experience for her; so we prescribed lots of cuddles and adjusted her dose accordingly. We’re still in the thick of it, but I think we’re doing pretty ok thanks to our medicine. My advice for anyone trying to navigate these tricky waters during growth spurts, or if you aren’t entirely sure why things aren’t going smoothly right now, reach out to other caregivers of pediatric patients. We have all hit a wall or two (or 10) while trying to figure this out, we would be honored to try and lighten your load. If you are a veteran, willing to offer your support, make yourself known in the support groups! We can never have enough community support! For questions, I am available via social media @Invictusplantae, and you can find more from me under “The Fam” on Herbage magazine’s website!

The DEA is at it again... Marijuana’s cannabis cousin, hemp, could be under attack by the Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”) if industry insiders are correct in their interpretation of the federal agency’s recent (late August 2020) proposed rules for hemp and CBD—opening the door to nail down stricter regulations for this legal cannabis market. I have written before about the impact of the 2018 Farm Bill signed by President Trump into law in December 2018, making the cultivation of industrial hemp—an agricultural commodity grown by at least three early American presidents and widely cultivated as a cash crop until the federal government made all forms of marijuana illegal almost a century ago—legal once again, and with it, hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC. At that juncture, the FDA already was taking steps to regulate the CBD industry, sending cease and desist letters to companies who allegedly made claims about the medicinal value of their CBD without FDA approval. Now, enter the DEA, which continued its history of regulatory attacks on the cannabis industry with the publication of an Interim Final Rule (“IFR”), Implementation of the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 in the Federal Register. On its website, the DEA states the purpose of its IFR, effective immediately, as follows: “The purpose of this interim final rule is to codify in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations the statutory amendments to the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) made by the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 [the 2018 Farm Bill], regarding the scope of regulatory controls over marihuana, tetrahydrocannabinols, and other marihuana-related constituents. This interim final rule merely conforms DEA’s regulations to the statutory amendments to the CSA that have already taken effect, and it does not add additional requirements to the regulations.” However, even a cursory review of the IFR reveals this is an inaccurate description.

Sarah Lee Gossett Parrish

National Law Journal While the DEA contends the IFR is intended to align its policies with the Farm Bill, it opens the door for action against hemp extract manufacturers during the extraction stage 2019 Cannabis Trailblazer (“work in progress hemp extract”) and disrupts the delta-8 THC market by providing that “All synthetically derived tetrahydrocannabinols remain schedule I controlled substances.” What does this mean? While DEA is on the record stating cannabis containing no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis meets the definition of hemp and is no longer a controlled substance, the IFR creates uncertainty about hemp extracts because the extraction process involves isolating cannabinoids, which causes THC levels to spike. Critics worry that the DEA could take action against hemp extract manufacturers during the extraction stage, before they can dilute the THC to levels that are compliant. The delta-8 THC issue is also a concern. Most industry members are familiar with delta- 9 THC, which creates the “high”, but delta-8 THC from hemp is also psychoactive and is gaining interest. Delta-8 THC is in a legal gray area because no explicit laws regulate it. The IFR distinguishes between “materials derived from the plant Cannabis sativa L.” (no longer controlled substances) and “synthetically derived tetrahydrocannabinols” (now schedule I controlled substances regardless of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol content). Under this distinction, theoretically, the DEA could take action against “synthetically derived” tetrahydrocannabinols (including delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol) when derived via a chemical reaction on cannabidiol (CBD). But is delta-8 THC a “synthetically derived tetrahydrocannabinol” under the IFR? Again, theoretically, yes because it is converted from CBD via a catalyst. Thus, the DEA could determine it to be “synthetically derived” and ban it altogether. What’s the take-away? We just thought the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp across the board, with a few gray areas that actually favored the industry. Now, the DEA plans to assert jurisdiction over these areas under the IFR, despite the clear intent expressed in the 2018 Farm Bill. The DEA may have exceeded its rulemaking authority, and if it matters to you, then submit comments between now and October 20, 2020. Be sure to follow the instructions and include “RIN 1117- AB53/ Docket No. DEA-500” on any comment submitted. Nutter Butter Swirl Into Sublime by Amy Lee

Nut-butters are some of the easiest household pantry items to infuse with cannabis and one of the most delicious! Nut butter is perfect for snacking with celery, apples, carrots, pretzels, and more! This recipe calls for peanut butter but can easily be replaced with any nut butter of your choice. Hemp or full-spectrum nut butter is an amazing cannabinoid delivery food due to the healthy fat content and high fiber for better absorption and bioavailability within the body. Implementing 1-2 tablespoons of cannabis-infused nut butter to your daily routine provides a variety of cannabinoids, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats for healthy bodily function while also supporting the activation within the endocannabinoid system. This recipe provides a quick rich and delicious single-serving peanut butter chocolate brownie under 10 minutes! *You may use any infused nut-butter for this recipe. Ingredients: 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil Melted 2 Tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup ¼ Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract 1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder 3 Tablespoons Gluten-Free Flour (or flour of choice) 1 Teaspoon Vegan Mini Chocolate Chips (Enjoy Life - brand) 1-2 Tablespoons Infused Peanut Butter Dash of salt Directions: In a small bowl combine coconut oil, maple syrup, and vanilla Add Cocoa powder, flour, and salt until combined Stir in chocolate chips Line ramekin with parchment paper strips to remove brownie when done cooking or spray muffin pan Pour batter into ramekin or muffin pan Dollop infused peanut butter into center or brownie, slightly swirl through the top Bake at 350* for 9 minutes Let cool completely before enjoying PAGE 12

When utilizing cannabis medicinally with either industrial hemp products or other cannabis-related products, it is important to understand that each delivery method provides a different bioavailability percentage within the body. The bioavailability percentage plays an important role for all cannabis patients whether they medicate leisurely, are seeking a personal wellness protocol as a new cannabis patient, or assisting the more experienced and focused patient. Before diving into the importance of bioavailability, it is vital to know the delivery methods at which cannabis may be provided. Starting with the most common method of delivery, smoking includes cannabis flowers, vape cartridges, and concentrates, followed by edibles, sublingual delivery (suckers; hard candy included), intravenous delivery, suppositories, and topical application. Each cannabis delivery method provides a cannabinoid-rich medicine yet the cannabinoid bioavailability differs between each delivery method and product. What is bioavailability and why should it matter to you? Bioavailability is the rate in which a substance (such as hemp or cannabis) is absorbed into the body and made available to the endocannabinoid system. Medicating with a cannabis product initiates homeostasis, homeostasis is the body’s process for establishing balance through endocannabinoid support while also assisting all other major regulatory systems. Each delivery method provides an individual bioavailability percentage rate at which the body will absorb cannabinoids and begin the benefits of homeostasis within the endocannabinoid and subsequent bodily regulatory systems. This may result in the patient experiencing various levels of “potency” per delivery method, however, it is the combination of bioavailability of the product paired with the total cannabinoid testing levels. Exploring bioavailability allows the patient to expand their cannabis knowledge and encourages the patient to explore new delivery methods. In my opinion cannabinoid bioavailability is one of the most important factors when seeking to medicate with cannabis. Bioavailability can be measured on a scale from lowest bioavailability with topicals measuring between 5-10%, edibles measure between 4-20%, flower approximately 30% bioavailability, sublingual measures between 4050% with cannabis vaporizors measuring up to 80% and the highest bioavailability at 100% is intravenous application. A high cannabis bioavailability usually equates to less cannabis product the patient may require to medicate with due to the bodys ability to absorb more of the total cannabinoids. It is not necessarily a higher dosage of cannabinoids or THC percentage that equates to a better medicated experience but how well they are absorbed into the body. A higher bioavailability is the sign of a higher quality product resulting in better absorption within the body. Products that deliver a high level of bioavailability often contain fewer total ingredients therefore are able to absoprb easier within the body. Bring to a boil then simmer uncovered on med-low heat for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, pull the lemon wedge out and discard. ~Add tincture and use a small blender to purée mixture. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours. ~Once filling has thickened, preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place paper liners in cupcake or muffin tins. Melt coconut oil. ~Combine oat milk and vinegar/lemon juice in a small bowl, stir and set aside. ~In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt until combined. Add milk and vinegar/lemon mixture, vanilla, and coconut oil to dry mix. Whisk until there are little to no lumps left in batter. ~Fill cupcake liners ¾ full and bake 20-25 minutes. ~While cupcakes are baking, make frosting: Add vegan butter or coconut oil, powdered sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest and vanilla to mixing bowl. Whisk on low-medium until smooth, avoid over-mixing. Add more lemon juice if dry, powdered sugar if runny. Refrigerate icing for 15-30 minutes if using coconut oil. ~Allow cupcakes to cool, then insert a straw about ½ way into the center of each cupcake to create a well for filling. Use piping bag or large syringe to fill each cupcake. Spread or pipe lemon frosting on top. Optional: Sprinkle about ½ tbsp of granulated sugar + ½ tbsp infused sugar over 3-4 ounces of fresh blueberries to top your cupcakes

When I was young, autism was extremely rare. 15 years ago the prevalence of autism had reached around 1 in 150 children. Now it is around 1 in 50 children. So what is happening? Is this “nature” or “nurture”? Environment or genetics? Well, from my perspective, it is nutritional. In my world, what you eat provides precursors to something we all have called an endocannabinoid system. In particular the ratio and amount of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids are CRITICAL to how we function. These provide modulators which run our endocannabinoid system, which, it turns out, pretty much runs every system in our bodies. In fact, most diseases can be pinned to disregulations in this system.

So, would autism have any obvious disregulations in the endocannabinoid system? It turns out, YES! Those that suffer from autism have 2 major disregulations. When understood, it is also apparent why some pharma strategies work, and some do not. Mom’s and Dad’s of autistic kids will tell you this, that THC works for these kids. It works because it helps replace and regulate one of the deficiencies they have in the endocannabinoid system. In some cases, CBD’s will also help, but ONLY in conjunction with something that will upregulate the endocannabinoid system. While behaviorally it may LOOK like the way to treat these kids is by anti-anxiety and other down regulating pharma meds, this is exactly the wrong thing to do. In fact that will exacerbate any behavioral problems. Autism is a very unique disease. The great news is that it appears to be treatable within the endocannabinoid system. There are many strategies that could be used, however, care must be used as to not downregulate or “slow the idle” of these children. That makes things worse. There are some great resources here in Oklahoma and certainly feel free to contact GnuPharma, myself, or the OK4UApproved trade organization for education and answers. As always, we will lead here in Oklahoma.

COVER ARTIST GENTRY LEACH

by Rayne Graham You must see Gentry Leach’s breathtaking ethereal art. I am not telling you what to do. Her Instagram is a good place to start and will have you hooked. @gentree The first time I was able to glimpse one of her amazing creations I knew that I wanted to know more about this multi-dimensional being. The way she introduces lyrics of color in a seemingly spiritual stroke while capturing the energetic vibrations of what she is trying to convey left me breathless. I know I can’t be the only one, so I reached out to Gentry to get to know her more on a soul level. Let’s check out what she had to share with me!

Where does your inspiration come from? Ever since I was a little girl, I have interpreted the world through a vivid, creative lens. There is an inherent creative spark that is embedded deep within my heart that has guided me down a path of becoming a visionary through many different mediums. Throughout my practice, I explore my emotional identity as a spiritual being having a human experience. I believe art is a

crucial tool in understanding the deep inner-truths of our humanity. I create meaningful works in an effort to connect with others on the core roots of our existence. My conceptual themes often involve self-exploration, healing social injustice, and coming back home to nature. I feel an innate pull toward the dynamic world we live in and use art as my tool to communicate a message of empathy for all living things. In my works, I explore the union of representation and abstract expression. I believe these are the two fundamental archetypes that make up the framework of the universe. It is my intention as an artist, to use my creative practice as a vehicle for inspiration, reflection, and universal empathy in hopes of creating authentic connections across the globe.

What is your favorite medium to use? This is a challenging question because I adore all mediums for different reasons. Although, the one I’m constantly drawn to is paint. I enjoy working with mixed media on some of my smaller, more intimate pieces. I love to let the variety of mediums dance together to create one strong composition of texture, color, and depth.

What is your ritual when it comes to making a new work of art? 1. Get Connected. I never rush the composition, I really meditate on my vision and allow that to come through, sometimes I feel guided if I’m working with abstract material to just surrender to the creative flow. 2. Listen to good music 3. Light an incense 4. Embrace the Flow

When did you start giving your visions life?

What do you do for creative blocks? When I feel blocked, I accept it and let go of all expectations. I like to come back home to my heart and do some sort of self-grounding practice like yoga or running. I always tell myself, “This too shall pass.” It’s so important not to force it. It’s so important to give yourself space to step away and take the pressure off yourself. When I’m finally feeling ready to peruse the creative process again, I start with a meditative practice of uncontrolled sketching just to get the creative energy flowing.

What advice do you have for creative minds that As long as I can remember I’ve want to get started givbeen expressing my inner truths ing their visions life? to the world through many modes of creativity and artistic expression. I wrote poetry and played guitar growing up, but in the last 7 years I fell in love with drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and photography. I experimented on anything and everything I could get my hands on and just let me teenage angst explode on the surface. Years later, those intuitive creative drives have led me to an abundance of skills in the creative world and allow me to connect with my community in a meaningful way.

DO IT! Let go of comparison, expectations, and ideas around what you think you are capable of. It’s an ever-evolving practice. The beautiful thing about art is that is a separate energetic force from the pressures of day to day to reality, it’s therapeutic, and it’s completely subjective to each individual viewer. You never know... something you effortlessly create may touch someone in a powerful way and provide a bridge of connection from human to human. That is the beauty of art. It is an ever-giving force. Matthew is a self taught individual with autism who is using his creative spirit to promote the benefits of cannabis in our society. Everything starts with a story, a story of creation and a story of destruction. Matthew’s art allows him to release his energy where his imagination is one with memory. The mind is a gateway. Love is Our Guide. Art is a form of communication and the best paintings speak volumes. He will always use his art to promote Truth in our world of darkness. These paintings are his own articulations and concepts beginning in his mind and portal to his 420 realm where he creates in his own medium the same as his ancestors as they manifest within.

Being a Thorn in the Side of Corporate Cannabis by Rayne Graham

Intention and Energy are the windows to the human soul. I am sure you have heard it was the eyes, but in my experience, a person’s intentions and energy speak volumes before their mouths ever do. When I was given the opportunity to sit down and chill out with the owners of The Divine Collection, I was able to read both tales mentioned above right away, and the windows were actually open letting fresh airs of truth and passion for the Cannabis plant in. Brandon Vandeloo has been growing Cannabis ever since he can remember. He was an underground cultivator before it was popular, public, and legal. Since he is a purveyor in the finer things in Cannabis, Brandon decided to create an umbrella for his growing, projects, events, breeding, etc...Thus,The Divine Collection was born! After attending an Oklahoma canna con, and meeting Kane, they decided it was time to bring TDC to the legal Oklahoma market. The rest is history. Brandon had been soured by his past working in the grows of Corporate Cannabis. “To see the plant bastardized, taken advantage of, stripped down, and to watch people squeeze as much money as they can from a monetary standpoint, I think Is wrong,” he stated when speaking of his experiences in large scale grows. But when I say he has been soured, I do not mean towards this beautiful plant, as his passion for the plants and people who consume it are evident. Especially when he talks about how it saved his life in many ways and he wants to share the love he has for it to the public. Kane handles more of the business and networking side of things and Brandon is the creative mind behind the grow and processing. They both create a team that exudes transparency and love for the cannabis community and plant. They want you to be able to, “Smoke what they smoke”, and push to be the underdog championing for the patients of Oklahoma to get quality medicine. In order to achieve this, everything within their operation has a purpose. For example, Ice is curated in-house so nothing new is introduced into the hash that shouldn’t be there in the first place. Brandon was very clear on this point when he said, “We foster trichomes from the moment of conception, everything Is handled with care.” With breeding, growing, cultivating, and processing being exactly what the Divine Collection does, it was very easy to see his point. This translates very well into their product itself, the ice water hash! I have had the opportunity to try a few flavors on their line up like the coveted solventless diamonds. Yes, solventless and diamonds can go in the same sentence! Please note, it’s hard to get your hands-on Divine products

PAGE 22

To Quote Matthew de la Tour: I have my mother’s blood and her mother’s blood and her mother’s blood. I Experiment with Experience. I have always attempted what is out of the ordinary and will achieve the wonderful impossible. I connect with other’s by Loving Kindness. I have used all aspects of my life to produce my own style of avant-garde art in the 21st century. Art is Magic and Magic is a lifestyle and should be a labor of love while being an example of art and craft. You must have a foundation to stand on to ever direct Nature. I believe art should give us an idea of our relationship with Mother Earth and each other where we celebrate all abilities. Life is beautiful at its darkest, and then like a quasar you shine and become Victorious! My art is a tender plant steadily growing. I have strong roots and no tree lives without them. My art is screaming from the bottom of society. My pain gives me the strength to keep moving forward. Within my blood stirs centuries of fire! I shall be heard. Nothing’s Impossible! sometimes due to the size of the team (6 members) and the curated cannabis experience approach, but that makes this brand all the better for the Oklahoma Community in my opinion. For example, their hash is not divided into different micron bags during washing, which would knock more and more of those trichome heads off. The trichomes are the part of the plant responsible for the creation of cannabinoids and terpenes. Instead, Brandon chooses to keep everything full spectrum as in his own words, “the patient deserves all the cannabinoids from the plant”, period. So, now that we know more about how it is made and the men behind the brand, let’s talk a little bit about the products that brought me down this hashed out road shall we? I have two favorites at the moment, which in truth is ever changing as you can never really have a favorite flavor of 100% true ice water hash, but I digress. First, is the Mojito Diamond Sauce and although I have said it not even a few paragraphs above, this is SOLVENTLESS diamond sauce people. That means nothing was added to the making of this product but the plant itself, well and some specially curated Ice. Honestly, the best way to be able to tell? There is no burn when you inhale, and you know exactly what I am talking about. My other favorite is the GMO hash, which is at a low price point considered the shelf or fridge it is in when displayed in the dispensaries and precisely the reason I grabbed it in the first place. It was my first experience with The Divine Collection when it comes to this flavor and I have to say the price point was the tip of the ice burg of making me want more. The taste, smell, and experience were obviously what made up the rest! Don’t expect this brand to only have Hash for too long though, as Brandon said in his own words, “Hash is only the beginning.”

I wake up in the morning, sometimes so early I wonder if I even slept… but hey, I wake up at least. When I do I always have to self inventory. Where am I? How do I feel physically, mentally, and spiritually? What are my goals for the day, etc… Then it’s time to medicate. This is where the anxiety of deciding which way to lean….so to speak, kicks in. Well, I found one solution!

This dude down at the Leafy Sol in Shawnee is brilliant. His name is Parker Greenwood and he is a budtender. He’s one of those budtenders that seems very empathetic to everyone he speaks with. So empathetic that he has come up with this great way to party-up, or down, or somewhere in that fun zone using different mixology methods of strains inside of their pre-rolls. It’s really so simple that it’s brilliant.

I had the awesome opportunity to try a few over a span of a week. I was able to experiment with different (what I call) modes throughout the day. Here’s the breakdown to try, but I suggest making it even easier by stopping by the Leafy Sol and giving Parker a fist tap as he treats you to his very own mixture of happiness. GRAPE DURBS X PINE SOUL “OSOM” ALIEN OG X BLUE DREAM “DR. STRANGE” WHITE CHOCOLATE X RAINBOW FLAME “WEST SIDE WILD FIRE” MYSTERY COOKIES X PINA LOCA “MYSTIC COLADA” ZSWEET INSANITY X GOLDEN GOAT “PONY BOY” BLUE DREAM X STARBERRY “BLUE THUMB” I have to say that my favorite for most of my “modes” was the “Dr. Strange.” First of all, the name alone called out for me. Secondly...the blend was perfect for my body. I had a great relaxed body high while at the same time I was having some fun up in my head guts. I firmly recommend this type of practice with your meds. Its just another way to please the “temple” and take care of oneself. PAGE 23 ~Bridges

Hope by Brittiany Adilas

Hip-hop, rap, rock, pop with Epidemic Outrage you just may get it all.The ability to navigate the musical waters or genres while staying true to who they are sets them apart from those that also fall under several genres of music. Some would say fluidity is the future and if that’s the case these musical mavens have already got it figured out. With their latest release “Cry,” you get a glimpse into the musicians that have had time to cumulate a sound of their own and a way of providing a message for those of us who are in desperate need of a little hope. Available on all platforms for you to give those ears a chance to get the pick me up that’s too often needed in this world full of unknowns. Drawing inspiration from real life, family friends and the want to help those in need, they have a brighter message than one might think when hearing the name Epidemic Outrage. The group is composed of three members, with Taylor Morris being Epidemic Outrage and Cameron White and Austin Brown. Austin Brown, simply known as A.B. is Taylor’s brother and Cameron is Taylor’s best friend. All coming together to offer a set of skills that allows them to showcase music they love to share. Taylor and Cameron sat down with Herbage Magazine to chat with us about music, military, cannabis and family. Epidemic Outrage, how did you guys get started? We have been friends since before we started doing music, he (Cameron) sang country and was in a rock band since he was younger, I (Taylor) started music in 2013 as more of a joke. I had a good friend that I served with in the military who had invited me out to Phoenix, Arizona to do a mixtape and he paid for it, I went out there and I did it. It was alright, it was a little rocky at first but I ended up sticking with it (music) after that. I ended up coming back to Oklahoma after incidents in life happened,Then me and him (Cameron) got a job working just as some hand me down construction workers and we were fixing up houses and shit. We didn’t have no place to go, we were homeless, so our boss was getting us hotel rooms. All we had was his guitar, whiskey, weed and broken strings. We started writing songs back then, taking old rock songs, like Seether songs and grabbing them on the chords and I just started rapping on them and basically that’s how it all got started and then we found out there were programs on the internet that we could actually take an instrumentals and record our vocals on them, and they didn’t sound that good at the time, but they did to us, which kept us motivated to keep writing hits, and hits. PAGE 26

What genre would you put yourselves in? That’s hard to do that, we try to think about that all the time, but I (Cameron) play my music and then we play Epidemic Outrages music and then I’ll be like, if you blend the two, the closest thing you could get is someone said we sounded like Yellow Wolf, like southern hip hop. (Taylor) We can do that southern hip-hop, we can also do pop, we can also do bars, just straight bars, and we don’t mix a lot of hip-hop and country it’s not our thing, that’s his lane and that’s my lane, we come up with other things like mixing pop and hip-hop. (Cameron) That’s probably one of the hardest questions we get asked. It’s so hard to put us into a box. (Taylor) We have grown into our own acoustic set, we have our own acoustic vibe. It’s one thing that we love to do. It keeps things popping since all we need is a guitar and vocals. So when you are doing jam sessions is it all acoustic? (Taylor) Oh yeah, we are acoustically type jamming, it’s rare we will ever put on a beat and just rap it.. you know he starts finding something on a guitar and then what’s incredible about him (Cameron) is he can write something on a guitar and write vocals, never have to write it down and then he will have it memorized for me, for us to work on whenever we want to. That makes us be able to write songs way faster, he can also take a hip-hop instrumental and make it an acoustic song. Since you (Taylor) are a poet first, what is the process, is it finding a beat or writing first? (Taylor) The music comes first, it tells me the story, the strings tell me the story, the beat tells me the story. When you’re going through that process, what inspires you since most of what you rap about is life experience, do you feel that this is the primary place you guys find inspiration from?

(Taylor) Yeah, real life. Most definitely, the biggest inspiration is just life. (Cameron) I always say the hardest thing to write a song about is nothing. Your (Taylor) time spent in the military is something that gets referenced a lot in your music, how do you feel about your time in the military? (Taylor) A few of the songs we have released have got a lot of negative remarks about it, I think it was a very positive thing for me when I was 17 years old, but as being a kid in combat, I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. I didn’t even figure out how dangerous it was till I was in the midst of it. Then it didn’t affect me till I had got older, because I was still that tough kid. I couldn’t lose that persona. Then I had kids and that made me think “What the fuck?” I just let grown men tell me and push me into places that I never needed to be. But, not only that, it was my decision.

So the real issue with it all, was the fact that they didn’t really treat us like we served our country, know what I’m saying? The problem wasn’t that I had to go to combat. I signed up for that. The things that I saw and went through didn’t affect me as much as it had affected other soldiers.

What really made Paragon pop though was Operation Zero, it was the fact that we were able to get growers to donate the stuff they weren’t going to use for the program, all their trim and we use it to make cancer medication for people who need it. Really that’s what took off.

We are strongly against being famous, we don’t mind being known here in this state for what we do. But family is always number one. This has always been a hobby. Making money for them is really the deal. If we ain’t making money with it then it won’t be our life.

So when I got out I grew my hair out and got bigger holes in my ears and said fuck America for a minute, but now I realized it’s not fuck America. We just have fucked up governments. Serving your country isn’t a bad thing.

Tell me more about Operation Zero?

If I (Taylor) was making 4 grand a month with it though I would be happy. If it ever made that much money I could handle that and never have to be a millionaire. I can make money extracting cannabis for the people of Oklahoma. That platform for me to be heard on is still good.

Have you had vets, and enlisted military hear your music and relate to it? (Taylor) Yeah, it’s happened many times. It happened to me in LA, which was crazy. I get a lot of respect from Veterans and people send my song Lightning Strikes to the 22 Club. Which is cool. I (Taylor) don’t want to just be known for being a vet and rapping about that. I wanted to be respected for my craft and the stories help that. What do you both do for work? We actually work for Paragon Extracts. Jeremy Dedmon is our best friend. I (Cameron) started working for Jeremy like 5 years ago, and he (Taylor) started working for them not too long after. Jeremy ended up making him (Taylor) lead extractor, and he figured it out. (Taylor) We had to learn quick coming from laying rubber and asphalt, to a clean room. Jeremy was the mastermind of it all really, he paid money to help us learn. So it wasn’t half ass country learning. So we knew how to make clean extracts.

Operation Zero is tough, there are so many people that need FECO, that it’s like I (Taylor) wish we had 10 extraction machines running 24 hours for these people because they are in dire need of it. There isn’t anything we can do about that right now, we have to keep business running and we have to maintain Operation Zero. And it’s a have to! It’s not a put on the back burner type thing. We love our patients, it’s patients over profits. We barely make the margins as it is. (Jeremy) got into this industry because his mother was an opioid addict and she healed with THC. She is proud of that cannabis avenue. Because of that there is a blood bond that makes this about more than money. Do you feel that the legalization of cannabis in Oklahoma has helped or harmed the music industry here? Oh it has most definitely helped, it has given artists platforms and events to come to for the cannabis industry with the opportunity to showcase themselves. It was so hard to get a show being a more pop artist here in Oklahoma before, not being in the industry, having this has been a blessing. Where does Epidemic Outrage hope to go from here?

Hattie’s Hollistic Healing by Rayne Graham When it comes to healing, holistic happens to be one of my favorites! Organic, clean, and good for the body, it is hard to beat. This can include natural whole foods, vitamins, physical exercise, stress management techniques, and so much I haven’t discovered. So, when I wanted to learn more about this field, who better to talk than Raquel Rogers, the owner of Hattie’s Holistic Healing? When she lost her mother to diabetes and congestive heart failure while finding herself with type 2 diabetes and overweight, Raquel started to research and attend nutrition classes. Now, she is a certified healthcare coach, healthy, and no longer suffering from her diabetes. But, as she says in her own words, “I love, love and I want to include everyone.” and that means Raquel wants to share her healing abilities with those in need of them. The great news is she can achieve this in majority through her website www.hattiesholistichealing.net . It is important to note that everything offered through the site is 100% organically sourced. So much so, that I was able to get a glimpse of Raquel’s herb and vegetable garden and my grower’s heart rejoiced! From She even cultivates her own soil. Every product sold is also infused with Reiki as she is a level one practitioner. Let’s talk healing, shall we? Here are a few products I was able to talk to the healer herself about that are offered through her website; hattiesholistichealing.net •Immunity Blend Tea: It is a compounded tea consisting of elderberries and so many more effective herbs. It helps with raspatory issues and allergies. •Chill Blend Tea: This blend will help you destress and rewind. It is not infused with any type of CBD or THC rather

PAGE 30

its distant relaxing cousins Lavender and Chamomile. Well, maybe not cousins but you get the point. Both teas are equally blended so you can use as little or as much as you want at a time and get consistency every time. •Milk Bath: This is offered in a lactose intolerant option as well which included coconut powder. Milk bath will pamper your skin and make it feel silky soft. Fun fact, Cleopatra was given milk baths every day of her life from the moment she was born until she was murdered. Raquel has many other things to offer in her shop other than products however. She also offers health coaching services to help people build the healthy lifestyle they deserve. You might want to think about subscribing to her newsletter as well. I have heard from a little bird that come the middle of this month; we might see the first Holistic Fair of Oklahoma. We’re talking vendors, food trucks, and full moons. Being a beacon for healing means creating a safe space for those in need of it and Raquel has done just that.
