As we enter the month of June, the greens on Barony will have their aeration completed and Robber’s Row is scheduled for mid-June. Of course, this is weather dependent. Aeration is critical and we must all understand the greens will be sandy and bumpy for up to two weeks following the aeration. Several of the greens will most likely get another “drill and fill” servicing to help improve the quality of the greens. The fairways are improving, and green grass is growing once again, but some areas are not so great. With tree and branch trimming to some greens, we are beginning to see the benefits. Miracles do not happen overnight, so please be patient.

As a reminder, tee times change effective June 1st. A copy is posted outside of Jay’s office and tee sheets for the remainder of the year are in our portal. I anticipate there will be at least one more change in scheduling for 2022, likely in September or October. The Board continues to ensure all golfers are treated fairly and for those players that do not play in an Approved Tee Time group, tee times are available through the morning on the Member’s course. On Thursday, June 16th , Barony will be the Member’s Course. All play for the day will start on Hole #10 and it will be like playing a new course, so beware of the water on the left.

Our Social Committee continues to strive to present new and exciting events. I encourage every member to join in the fun each and every month. If you have any questions, please contact Anne Gerth, our Social Committee Chairperson.

And coming to Port Royal from June 1 – August 10th, every Wednesday between 11am-2pm will be Low Country Made market operating on the lawn in front of the Heritage Administration Building. No food trucks will be allowed. Anticipating lots of visitors on those days, the Member’s Parking lot will be opened to non-members and non-Port Royal residents. Parking for our golf members should not really be impacted as the market opens at 11am and most members if not all have already teed off by then. If you think about visiting the market, consider riding your bike!

As I wrote last month, in June, the Board will commence work on selecting this year’s Nominating Committee for next year’s Board. If you are interested or want to learn more, contact myself or any Board member.

For those of you that have headed back North and to those of us that stay here, enjoy your summer.
