THE
EDITOR GOOD EVENING AND A WARM WELCOME TO PENICUIK PARK FOR TONIGHT'S SSE SCOTTISH CUP THIRD ROUND TIE.
A
fter such a long extended summer break it is great to finally be back. There's nothing quite like regular football and we have matches coming up thick and fast. Unfortunately for our supporters the wait for a home match at Ainslie Park goes on. We haven't played at Ainslie Park since our home fixture against Spartans on April 28th and with our next confirmed home match against Celtic not until 22nd September it could be an unthinkable five months since a home fixture at Ainslie Park. It's not all bad news though as that means we have been able to call on alternative home venues which has allowed us to take Hibernian Ladies to different areas around Edinburgh. We have enjoyed two fixtures at Peffermill, while this evening we head out to Penicuik where I'm sure we will be warmly welcomed. The icing on the cake will come early next month when we welcome Slavia Praha in the UWCL at Easter Road. It will be a special night and one to mark in the diary. It would be tough to go through this column without mentioning the UWCL Qualifying trip to Slovenia. On paper it looked like three straight-forward wins. The reality was that the team had to work extremely hard for their success. As we are well aware from our unsuccessful trip to Romania a few years ago, nothing
can be taken for granted at this level. The team worked solidly both on the pitch and in training to earn their results. Most days the mercury was pushing into the 30s and as a photographer I was struggling to work in the heat. I can't imagine what it was like for those being asked to run relentlessly for 90s minutes. The team and the coaching staff deserve high praise for delivering results in challenging conditions. I'd like to extend my thanks to our hosts for their excellent hospitality, as well as the many volunteers who helped to put on a great event. A special mention must also go out to our fantastic supporters who made the difficult trip out to Beltinci. As always your support is hugely appreciated! Finally, the eagle-eyed fans out there may have started to notice changes to our social media over the last few weeks. It is with great pleasure that I can announce that our social media feeds are now able to reap the benefits of having the same graphics that you will see on the Hibernian FC channels. A huge amount of credit must go to the media team at Hibernian FC for the time and effort that has gone into facilitating this. We look forward to being able to bring you more great content over the remainder of the season. We are all Hibs.

KEY MOMENT
An all round solid performance from Hibernian the word go with Rachael Small netting in the 7th minute to open the scoring.
PEFFERMILL HOME
Hibernian's mid-week home of Peffermill has seen the home side score 10 goals and concede just once in the two mid-week fixtures here thus far this season.
WHO SAID WHAT?
“It's a good feeling. Good to be back on the pitch. Obviously I'm still building up my minutes and I got sixty minutes again today and a start which is great. It's an amazing feeling to be back on the scoresheet again. I don't score that often so it's just great to be scoring a goal.” SHANNON MCGREGOR
PRESS REACTION
“Hibs hit seven past Motherwell, with Rachael Small, Kirsty Morrison, Shannon McGregor and JamieLee Napier all netting in the first half hour. Kirsten Rolph conceded an own-goal before the break, Morrison later got her second, Ellis Notley scored Hibs’ seventh and Abbie Callaghan replied." SHEKICKS.NET

Now in the next round we have Slavia Prague, back -to-back quarter finalists so a huge challenge awaits, but if we can get a bumper crowd at Easter Road on Wednesday 11th September and give ourselves a chance in the tie after 90 minutes we’ll have a real go at them second leg and look to progress. We have to believe it’s possible. As I’ve said before during my time at the club, we’re incredibly proud of our recent cup record and will not give our title as holders up easily. As we saw at the weekend, Stirling can be difficult opponents to break down and we expect something similar tonight. NEWS DEFENDER AMY MUIR ARRIVES FROM RANGERS The 19-year-old joins the club following a successful period with Rangers, having won the club’s Player of the Year award in April of this year. With the ability to play full-back and in midfield, Muir’s versatility is a great addition to Grant Scott’s squad. Still very early into her professional career, Amy continues her development alongside several young players within Hibernian’s squad. She also joins the club ahead of UEFA’s European Women’s Under-19 Championship taking place on home soil. Muir will captain Scotland for the tournament later this month. Speaking to Hibs TV, Amy described her emotions to have joined the Scottish Cup and SWPL Cup champions: “I’m delighted to be here and I’m really excited to get started.
young players that have came through Hibs and have went onto play professionally. And I know players in the past who have also moved from their clubs to join Hibs and have been really successful and it’s brought their game to the next level. So, I’m hoping that can be the same thing that happens to me. “Obviously keep challenging for the league and I would love to win trophies here as well. I’ve watched the girls in the past lifting lots of trophies and I just want to be part of that now.” Amy’s last match for Rangers was a 0-6 defeat at the hands of Hibernian but she says the experience showed her the level of professionalism the side play with: “It was a difficult game, but I think it was clear to me how Hibs like to play.
“It was a difficult decision for me to leave Rangers, but I feel I have made the right one in coming here.
“They play with freedom, they like to attack, and I think when they do it right they can cause teams a lot of problems. So, I’m excited to be a part of that.”
“I think in the past there has been a lot of

at securing the services of Amy from Rangers, stating that she has been a longterm target of the club. He believes that her versatility, athleticism and ability on the ball are all key attributes and why she was a target, and he has faith in her being able to offer a lot to the side when the season gets going again. Grant stated: “We’re delighted that Amy has decided to join Hibs. She’s been on our radar for quite a few seasons now and, ultimately, we have managed to secure her, so we’re delighted with that. “The best players can play in multiple positions and Amy is no different. We have an idea where we would like her to play. What we’ve seen in training and in a recent match from her that it just shows the versatility that she has. “She will offer so much to this team. She’s athletic and very powerful as well as being skilful and able to play the game really well. As I said, we’re delighted to have signed her.”

EASTER ROAD HOSTS SCOTLAND NATIONAL TEAM Easter Road is set to host the Scottish Women's National Team in their first competitive match since the World Cup. Hibernian's home ground has been selected as the venue for the first fixture in Scotland's European Championship qualifying campaign against Cyprus on Friday 30th August. With manager Shelley Kerr gathering a large squad to training camp ahead of the fixture including Joelle Murray and Jenna Fife as well as a number of ex-Hibernian players such as Abi Harrison and Claire Emslie there has never been a better opportunity to see the products of Hibernian Ladies player pathway in action. Tickets for the match are on sale now at the price of £5 for adults and £2 for Under 16s.
HIBS SIGN AMERICAN STRIKER, SIOBHAN HIGGINS Grant Scott has added to his attacking options with summer signing Siobhan Higgins. She joins the club after spending the last few years applying her trade in the United States. Commenting on the move, Siobhan spoke of her delight to be joining the club: “It feels great to have signed for such a successful club. I am excited to be a part of the squad. “Surprisingly I don’t find much of a difference in the football here because I had a heavy influence of British coaches back in the US. Not much has changed for me here except the intensity of the training sessions in addition to training in a more competitive environment.” Siobhan travelled out and helped the club top their group in the recent UWCL group in Slovenia. A fantastic experience the forward said
24
herself: “Playing in the UWCL was an unreal experience. I felt extremely thankful for the time I got to play, and proud of the team for being professional and getting the job done with each game.” Finally, Siobhan commented on how she has settled into the squad and outlined some of her personal targets she would like to reach by the end of the campaign. She added: “I think I have settled in just fine, the girls are welcoming and entertaining to be around, and the tempo of football is exactly what I was looking for. “As a striker my individual goal of course is to put the ball in the back of the net any chance I get, but realistically speaking it would be to accumulate as many points as I can with goals and assists.”

KEY MOMENT
Hibernian started to grow into the game after going behind to Howat's early strike. However a moment of real quality from Docherty doubled the host's advantage. The full back brought the ball down brilliantly before delivering a great cross which eventually arrived at Howat who doubled City's lead.
THE WAIT GOES ON
Incredibly despite numerous cup successes in the past few years the last Hibernian victory over Glasgow City in the league goes all the way back to a 3-2 home win in November 2007.
PRESS REACTION
“Hibs' hopes of winning their first title since 2007 will surely have to be put on ice for another year. Kirsty Howat's first-half double did the damage. Hibs' Siobhan Hunter received two yellow cards in quick succession with 12 minutes left, though Jamie-Lee Napier did pull a goal back four minutes later." BBC SPORT SCOTLAND
THE GAFFER
“A little bit disappointed with our performance, especially first half. I thought we gave City far too much space and time to play. We had an honest chat at half-time, tweaked the shape a bit and we looked a bit more solid. We did enough second half to give them more of a fight but obviously not quite enough to win the match.”

STIRLING UNIVERSITY
A
fter a tough first half of the season where Stirling University failed to win in the league, a challenging rebuilding job awaits manager Craig Beveridge.
Perhaps the most significant change comes in goal where long serving captain Chloe Logan has departed for Celtic and has been replaced by Claire Whitaker from Hutchison Vale.
The model under which the club operates will bring hope with an intake of players due to arrive at the University of Stirling including scholars which should add quality to the squad.
A crucial point gained away at Forfar Farmington is exactly the sort of restart to the season Stirling were hoping for and will give them confidence that results are not out of the question in what will be a defining second half to their season.
The changes are already underway with Claire Peterson the first of the scholars to join up with the squad. She joins Hibernian's own Jade Menzies who has taken up the option of a loan move to Ochilview for the second half of the campaign.
Stirling are no strangers to Hibernian in what will be their fourth competitive meeting of the season after having played twice already in the league as well as in the SWPL Cup. The sides also met in a friendly match during pre-season way back in January.

THE OPPOSITION - STIRLING UNIVERSITY
18 DEMI FALCONER
Defender has stepped up to become the new club captain.
1 CLAIRE WHITAKER
The new number one at Stirling University has stepped up to playing SWPL1 football after spending the first of the season playing in the SWPL2 at Hutchison Vale.
23 CLAIRE PETERSON
Scholar arrives from the USA for second half of the season.
3 CIARA BONNER
Defender returns after success at SSS Home Nations.
13 CRAIG BEVERIDGE
The manager will be looking to new faces arriving at the University to enhance his squad going into the second half of the season. With the University term beginning shortly it is anticipated that again Beveridge will have a much changed squad at his disposal as he looks to fight off relegation.
ELLIE SIMPSON
Impressive defender who has always shown a willingness to work hard and make herself difficult to beat. Always has the potential to be the stand-out performer at the back for Stirling.
7 GEMMA MASON
Midfielder who progressed from the development squad.
14 KIM GUTHRIE
Winger who has stayed with the club since her university days.
LAST MEETING STIRLING UNIVERSITY 0 HIBERNIAN 4
The teams last met only 3 days ago at Ochilview in SWPL 1 league action. Much like in the encounter earlier in the season at Peffermill, Hibs found it difficult to break down Stirling University in the early stages but Napier pounced on a Davidson cross before the interval to open the scoring. Strikes from Gallacher, Napier and the returning Morrison rounded out the scoring in a much more free flowing second half display from Hibernian which earned them their first league points since the restart.

KEY MOMENT
The Georgian side set out to frustrate Hibernian from the off but Hibernian didn't have long to wait for the breakthrough. Colette Cavanagh's left-footed thunderbolt from the edge of the penalty area found the top corner leaving the WFC Nike goalkeeper no chance of making a save.
PRESS REACTION
“A half-time pep talk helped JamieLee Napier score twice and give Hibernian a winning start to their Champions League campaign, said head coach Grant Scott. Napier's two second-half goals complimented Colette Cavanagh's first-half opener as Hibs defeated Georgian champions Tbilisi Nike in their qualifying group game in Slovenia." BBC SPORT SCOTLAND

In the first of those fixtures the U23s defeated Kilmarnock U23 7-1 at Hibernian Training Centre with the impressive Cari Johnston netting a hatrick while Eilidh Adams continued her fantastic run of form with another goal since moving up from U15 National Performance level. The biggest concern on the day though was for goalkeeper Alicia Yates who had to be leave the pitch late on with a head knock to be replaced in goal by midfielder Jade Menzies. Fortunately it was just a scare and Alicia was back in training later in the week. A week on from the first team winning 6-0 against Rangers at New Tinto Park, the U23s played out a cracking game of
38
football against Rangers Development at the same venue. Goals from Hay and Johnston put Hibs two up but Rangers clawed a goal back before the break to set up a stunning second half. The hosts scored twice within ten minutes of the restart to take the lead but Holly Aitchison brought Hibs back level just after the hour and with ten minutes to go Johnston unselfishly squared for Aitchison to tap in what proved to be the winner. An Edinburgh derby at Ainslie Park against Spartans followed with Cari Johnston again showing why she is on the brink of the first team with yet another goal. The striker showed impressive determination to chase down the ball and squeeze it into the net from a tight angle under pressure from the goalkeeper and a defender. A first half penalty from Aitchison and a second half striker from Jamie-Lee Smith saw Hibs U23 run out 3-0

winners on the day. The final game before the break saw Blackburn Ladies visit HTC. The visitors had held the U23s to a draw earlier in the season but this time out Hibernian proved too strong on their own patch. The highlight of the afternoon being another Cari Johnson hatrick while Shannon Leishman added an extra bit of quality to the side having returned from the first team.
Holly Aitchison again impressed onlookers with a brace while those with a keen eye will note that Dean Gibson was able to introduce first team players Shannon Leishman and Kirsty Morrison after halftime with both looking to improve their match fitness following injuries. Morrison continued where she left off at first team level by providing an assist and grabbing a late goal for herself.
The action returned on August 4th with a long trip away to Ayr. A much changed Hibernian U23 side took to the field winning 5-0.
Sunday saw the visit of SWFL 1 South leaders Glasgow City Development to HTC. Played in difficult conditions, The visitors
40
scored the only goal of the game as a cross from wide caught out Alicia Yates and ended up in the back of the net. Playing with the wind in the second half Hibernian had chances but a brilliant save from the Glasgow City keeper kept the visitors ahead and ultimately secured them the three points to extend their advantage at the top of the table. The U23s are next in action on Sunday 25h against Boroughmuir at Meggetland followed by a game on the international weekend at Hibernian Training Centre against Renfrew Ladies.

MATCH ACTION
KEY MOMENT
With Hibernian reduced to 10 players following the dismissal of Amy Gallacher for a second yellow card, it was the captain who stepped up and led by example. Joelle Murray powered home a header from a Rachael Boyle cross to double Hibernian's advantage with a goal that sealed all three points.
PRESS REACTION
“Hibernian Ladies put themselves in pole position to reach the last 32 of the Champions League after a 2-1 win over Cardiff Met in Slovenia. Grant Scott's side now need just a draw against the Group Three hosts Pomurje Beltinci on Tuesday to secure top spot. With only the group winners qualifying, Cardiff can now finish no higher than second due to the head-to-head record." BBC SPORT SCOTLAND
WHO SAID WHAT?
"IT was probably more nervy for the spectators because on the pitch we felt like we were in control and comfortable even after the sending off. We've had a few of those days where things just go against you but I was confident in the players around me that we could see the game out.” JOELLE MURRAY

SPECIAL FEATURE
PENICUIK
CONNECTION DOUGIE PENMAN PROFILES EX HIBERNIAN LADIES MANAGER KEVIN MILNE WHO IS NOW CO-MANAGER AT PENICUIK ATHLETIC.
T
onight’s hosts Penicuik Athletic have a shared connection with Hibs Ladies with the Cuikie co-boss Kevin Milne being our former manager. Kevin enjoyed a playing career within the Scottish Leagues, breaking through at Aberdeen before spells at Stirling Albion and Forfar Athletic. A move into ‘Junior’ football followed as Kev spent a season with Linlithgow Rose followed by five years at Haddington Athletic. A brief stay at Penicuik Athletic was his first connection with his current side, making four appearances though a return to Haddington followed. Upon the conclusion of his playing days, Kevin managed Heart of Midlothian Ladies, leading them to promotion to the Premier League in 2014, prior to joining Chris Roberts’ management team at Hibs. Under Chris, Kevin helped ourselves to win the League Cup and Scottish Cup. However a management opportunity arose at then Lowland League side Hawick Royal Albert, and Kevin took his leave from Hibs to guide Hawick to safety by season’s end. Another link for Hibs fans is that current boss Grant Scott was Kevin’s assistant manager at Hawick. A struggle to attract new players though saw Kevin tender his resignation from Hawick and a return to Penicuik quickly beckoned as Johnny Harvey brought Kevin in as his new assistant manager prior to season 2017/18. Penicuik got the season
off to a flyer, going undefeated until October with eight league wins and two draws before a 3-0 defeat to Lochee United brought the run to an end. Ultimately that would prove to be Kevin’s last as assistant boss, as following the postponement of Penicuik’s Junior Cup tie the following week, Kevin returned to Hibs as Manager, taking over from Chris Roberts in October 2017. The highlight of Kevin’s time in charge of Hibs was the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup Final 3-0 victory over Glasgow City thanks to goals from Abi Harrison, Siobhan Hunter and Rachel Small. A perfect start to season 2018 followed but Kevin made the decision to step down as Hibs boss in March 2018 and take a break from football. However Kevin didn’t stay away for too long, helping out with the coaching at Penicuik at the beginning of season 2018/19 before Johnny Harvey’s departure for Berwick Rangers saw Kevin offered the role of caretaker boss. Three wins from three followed and Kevin was appointed as co-Manager alongside his successor as Penicuik assistant, Tony Begg. The duo quickly took to their new roles and guided Penicuik Athletic to the East of Scotland Conference A title, and runners-up overall in the East of Scotland League playoffs. With their new season in the East of Scotland Premier Division underway, as well as a return to the Scottish Cup, we wish Kevin and our hosts Penicuik all the best for the campaign ahead.

MATCH ACTION
KEY MOMENT
Any early nerves were vanquished when Napier raced onto a through ball from Davidson to dispatch an effort beyond the goalkeeper with only seven minutes on the clock. Davidson's headed second goal meant ZNK Pomurje needed to achieve the unlikely feat of scoring four to top the group.
PRESS REACTION
“Hibs Ladies are through to the knock-out stages of the Champions League after a 2-1 win over ZNK Pomurje in Beltinci. Grant Scott's side required just a draw to qualify for the last 32 after posting victories against Tbilisi Nike and Cardiff Metropolitan Ladies. " EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS
THE GAFFER
““It’s a tough challenge playing three games in such a short space of time. From the travel, it was 30+ degrees heat, both in the matches and training. You’re also in foreign accommodation, eating different food – none of it was bad – but it’s different from being at home. We were going there on the back of the Glasgow City result so I think going away so soon after maybe helped us bounce back. It was immediately wiped from the memory.””
