Hibernian entertain Celtic in Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League action on Sunday 17 February (1pm kick-off) at Ainslie Park and are looking to build on the 0-0 draw at the same venue against Spartans last weekend. Cailin Michie is now looking for the team to bounce back following that goalless draw in the Edinburgh Derby, which Grant Scott’s side dominated but could not find a breakthrough goal in, and is hoping that the team can learn from the experience. She commented: “The character of the Hibs team is one that is strong and resilient, so we will be looking to bounce back from the set-back of not winning a game we have dominated and we will learn from it. We need to do that to ensure that we can get points in the future from games like this. “It is also the first game of the new season, so a draw isn’t a bad thing. It may not be what people were expecting, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. “We have seen teams trying new tactics and it is something that we need to adapt to. It is a great challenge for us to play to our own strengths and try to exploit other teams in the process.” Eddie Wolecki Black’s Celtic travel to Ainslie Park on Sunday, with recent matches between Hibs and the Glasgow side proving to be feisty encounters with plenty of goals.
This is what Cailin is expecting once again as she says that the side need to be on top in the early portion of the game in order to secure all three points in North Edinburgh.
The defender is looking for the team to find their rhythm on the ball and utilise possession better, as well as having more of a killer touch in the final third to stand a chance of achieving a positive result in the match. She commented: “Usually when we play Celtic it is a very competitive game and it is quite a physical challenge, they are technically good too. “They are a tough test and we just need to keep playing good football when they do put us under pressure as they are a strong team. “We are expecting a really competitive match against them and we are prepared to try and settle into the game and we are keen to play the football that we want to play, especially as we are trying to claim all three points from the game.
“For us to improve on the Spartans result then early on in the game we need to be dominant on the ball and impose our own way of playing on the match. “Against Spartans it took us a long time to get our midfield and strikers on the ball and we only really clicked in terms of the passing and movement that we wanted to do in the second half. “And of course, we are aiming to be taking our chances when we get them. We know that Celtic are a strong side, so we need to be more clinical when we approach this match. “Hopefully when we combine a better standard of possession with better finishing then we can maybe come out with three points.
LAST MATCH SPARTANS 0 – HIBERNIAN 0 Hibernian’s 2019 campaign in the Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League began with a 0-0 draw against Spartans on Sunday afternoon. In what was a dominant display in the Edinburgh Derby at Ainslie Park, Grant Scott’s team were unable to find a way beyond an organised Spartans defence. Grant Scott’s side were on top throughout and could have opened the scoring no less than three times in the first 20 minutes of the match, but found Harrison in the hosts’ goal hard to beat when efforts were on target. Chelsea Cornet dragged a shot wide in the fifth minute before Siobhan Hunter’s header was held by the Spartans goalkeeper. Again, Cornet came close as her effort from a corner was saved by Harrison as Hibernian tried to make their early dominance count. No further clear-cut opportunities fell the way of Scott’s side in the first half, nor for Spartans, but the play livened up in the second period when Rachael Small and Lia Tweedie both had chances to open the scoring, but they were unable to capitalise. Hibernian continued to dominate possession with Spartans penned inside their own half, but they had two chances on the break when Sarah Clelland fired over and Elena Santoyo-Brown had a shot saved by Jenna Fife just past the hour mark. The visitors continued to dominate the midfield battle, but chances were at a premium – but four eventually fell their way in the closing ten minutes. Kirsty Morrison’s shot was parried away by Harrison before Cailin Michie cracked an effort off-target, before Kirsten Reilly’s free-kick from 25 yards stung the palms of Harrison. The final chance arrived in injury-time when Jamie-Lee Napier nodded the ball down to Morrison in the box, but her flicked effort was once again saved by Harrison. Hibernian: Fife, Williamson (Notley, 72), Reilly, Murray, Small (Cavanagh, 55), Hunter, Michie, Napier, Tweedie (Leishman, 72), Cornet, Gallagher (Morrison, 62). Unused substitutes: Robson, Eddie, Davidson.

JENNA FIFE The team are not long back from a week long training camp at the Oliva Nova Resort in Valencia, which saw the players train on a full-time basis and have 24/7 in each other’s company as the new squad gels together. Jenna Fife spoke about the importance of the trip and says that being able to work on the squad’s harmony both on and off the pitch made the training camp incredibly fruitful ahead of the 2019 season. The shot-stopper said: “In terms of team cohesion being around your team-mates, especially the new ones, is great. The team bonding on a trip like this is great. “Getting to spend time with each other on a daily basis is great and is better than seeing each other three times a week. “Off the pitch it is great, but on the pitch is even better. Training with them for two sessions a day at times and working on technical and tactical work as well is fantastic. “On both fronts it has been a fantastic week and it has been helpful. We can’t wait to get started in the league.” She commented: “It was especially good going to Spain with the amazing facilities and weather for us to prepare in for the new season. “Being in Valencia was better than being in the snow back home, that’s for sure. There’s not much more we could have asked for from this trip. The pitches were great, the weather was great and everything was perfect for us. “This year, we are just taking each game as it comes as they bring about their own challenges. We need to work hard and we know that there aren’t any easy games at all. “There are a lot of very good teams in the league. We’re looking to start off well and achieve to the best of our ability this season.”

In 2008 Hibernian Football Club established the Hibernian Community Foundation as a registered Scottish charity to harness the power of football to improve the lives of disadvantaged people and communities across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Now in it’s tenth anniversary year, the Foundation is continuing to reach out and deliver programmes to those most in need. In order for our Foundation to continue this very important and much-needed work it is launching the ‘Famous Fiver’ appeal, which evokes a golden era in the club’s history. Our target for the appeal if £25,000 and we hope Hibernian supporters will rise to this challenge as they have done so often in the past. The Foundation will use every penny raised to affect positive change in communities and people of all ages.
The minimum donation is the ‘Famous Fiver’ but we hope, if they can, that people will donate more. For example: £5 will help provide a bowl of fruit for a classroom of children in a deprived community as part of a programme. £10 will buy a ball to allow us to increase participation in football and sport. £25 would fund an employability session for young adults. £50 would provide a hot meal for 12 children attending our after-school programme. Hibernian Football Club and the Hibernian Community Foundation are working together to improve people’s lives. As a Hibernian supporter, by donating you’ll also be entered into prize draws. £5 will give you the chance to win a signed ball. £10 for a chance at winning a tour of the Hibernian Training Centre. £25 and you could have lunch with the players. £50-plus and you could win the chance at four boardroom tickets for a game. First-team star Lewis Stevenson was on hand to help with the launch and said: “I know first-hand the great work the Community Foundation does in deprived communities across Edinburgh and I would ask everyone who can to donate to the Famous Fiver appeal.”
Hibernian Community Foundation offer football opportunities for boys and girls to play the game regardless of age and ability. From our Hibee Tots and participation centres, through to our community and girls teams, we aim to provide “Football for All”.
