The restaurant at McQueen is a highly respected American grill situated in Shoreditch, London. The restaurant is part of a much larger project at McQueen encompassing both a bar/lounge and a club situated below the restaurant. The interior design was inspired by the great Steve McQueen, as owner and designer Dezzi McCausland mentioned, “I wanted to design the venue based on how Steve McQueen would love his venue to look, I wanted to give it that Hollywood vintage feel, with modern touches”. Whilst being part of a larger venue, each area has been designed so that it can be closed off for intimate gatherings or can be opened up for a larger function. The restaurant has a multi-level design, with a raised dining area on the far side of the space. Immediately upon entering you get a sense of the American vintage feel with the walls covered in dark hardwood giving an almost log cabin feel. The far wall reinforces the masculinity of Steve McQueen with a "chesterfield-esque" wall adorned with leather and vintage ornate gold-framed photos of the inspiration himself. Looking at the seating you are presented with long bench like chesterfield sofas and
more modern curved seats with chesterfield bases designed to compliment the unique leather tables and striking chrome design sculptures across the space including a large propeller on the entrance wall. The space utilises strong gold underlighting against the leather and hardwood clad walls to give a warm environment and a secluded area in the later hours of the evening. Careful use of masonry on the bar and feature wall behind it has allowed a more neutral grey tone to tie the space together and give it a focal centrepiece. The club below the restaurant is a more modern, hedonistic space that keeps the theme of masculinity running through it with chesterfield sofas running around the VIP tables and "chesterfield-esque" booths for a more intimate setting. The underlighting has changed to a unique blue and gold theme and with floor to ceiling images of the "girls of McQueen". The unique and highly integrated space at McQueen brings together the venue as somewhere you could see Steve McQueen slouched down in a booth with a tumbler of Jack Daniels.

The Greek restaurant-bar, Opa brings Modern Greece to Midtown Village Philadelphia. The word “Opa” is a traditional Greek exclamation of glee, used to express the carefree aura that embodies the Greek spirit. The brother-sister team, George Tsiouris and Vasiliki Tsiouris were raised in the Philadelphia area and have deep family roots in the local restaurant scene. Their focus was to ensure a comfortable setting that would promote dynamic conversation, festive moments, and great cuisine. Crème has transformed the formerly vacant space to a global platform for Greek cuisine that is both authentic and modern. It evokes the Gazi neighborhood of Athens, with a warm and welcoming ambience. The design features an expansive bar, dramatic wooden canopy and an intimate banquette area. The 24-seat island bar made of river rock exudes energy and vibrancy is back-dropped by an impressive canopy constructed of birch branches. A plaster wall of banquette area houses candle-lit lanterns in colorful recesses, casting a warm glow among the back wall and hand-made terra cotta pendant lighting. Tables made of reclaimed oak complement the natural elements throughout the space. A custom-made circular metal screen in the main dining area sets the stage for playfulness and celebration. The space captures the essence of a bohemian yet sophisticated setting for fresh interpretations of traditional Greek fare.

Because of the problem of minimal storage space, a large wall cupboard was fitted in, built from different volumes. Armin Stegbauer: punk, former Greenpeace activist and cafe owner, on a mission from the heart. His aim: to free cakes and gateaux from their years of imprisonment behind the bars of crocheted doilies, cologne and dusty Sunday tradition. Stegbauer, saviour of “Cafe Kubitscheck” in Waldfriedhofstrasse, a traditional Munich confectioner’s from the 1950s, has made it his goal to revamp the confectioner’s tradition for the modern age. But not without taking on board some endearing aspects of Germany’s confectionery culture that are worthy of preservation. One route to his goal is the campaign “Torte an anderen Orten” (Gateaux On the Go), exhibitions at unexpected locations in collaboration with artists, creative minds and lateral thinkers of all kinds. “Tell me what music you listen to, and I’ll tell you who you are” was among the principles that served as a blueprint, starting-point and roadmap for the look and feel of the campaign and for the subsequent implementation of “Das Neue Kubitscheck”. 233

Behind the columns of the east facade of the Opera Garnier, the restaurant is located in a place where, when the building first opened, horse-drawn carriages would drop off ticket holders, arriving for a performance. The facade of the restaurant is a veil of undulating glass, sliding between pillars. With no visible structure, the glass is held in place by a single strip of bent steel running along the arched curve of the ceiling. This steel strip is fixed to the upper cornices of the columns 6 meters above the ground with stainless steel connecting rods. The glass is therefore held in place as if by magic. The façade therefore allows for clear views and a minimum impact. The keystone of the existing dome remains visible from the ground floor, while suddenly becoming very close to the diners on the upper level. Sitting close to the stone arches of the ceiling, the symmetry of the cupola is no longer apparent, the reference points change, and sense perception of the space is altered. In the curve of the hull above, immersed in warm red tones, the upper level becomes an intimate and private space. At the back of the room, in the area closest to the entrance to the Opera, the space becomes more protected and private, contrasting with the whiteness of the rest of the room. Long red booths line this space, creating the lounge area for the restaurant. At the outside edge of the lounge, a long black bar snakes around a nearby column. The design for this project is based around creating a space that will highlight the restaurant inside the Opera Garnier, without mimicking the existing monument, but respecting it while affirming its truly contemporary character.

Mi-Sha
Designer: Simone Micheli Design Company: Simone Micheli Architect Location: Milan, Italy Portrait Photographer: Juergen Eheim
During the FuoriSalone week in Milan (April 12th-17th) Mi-Sha@SevenStarsGalleria opened the door. Mi-Sha the new Restaurant event, comes to life between the closing date of the Expo in Shanghai, and the opening date of the Expo in Milan which will have as main theme “Feed the Planet, Energy for Life” a rather new way to raise individual awareness on the possible development based upon a regular and continuous nourishment of the body. The Restaurant is located, in the heart of Milan, inside the King’s Hall in Galleria V. Emanuele II, and is connected to the Milano taste and traditions offering typical dishes that perfectly combine with the fusion spirit of Chinese cuisine. Mi-Sha narrates the experience of different places looking for a contact, an exchange of skills and traditions related to the taste, for comparison and not just for consolidation or emulation. Mi-Sha expresses the identity of history and to avoid confusion aims to glamorize using iconic signs. MiSha wants to represent a meeting place for two cultures where the exaltation of contrast becomes a beauty resource. From the purity of the white heterogeneous furniture, to the variable screening of significant images, from the emphasis of the precise lighting technique muting into “non chandeliers” to the peculiar culinary approach, in this area, everything whispers about this intriguing propositional type. Desiring to generate multiple networks between innovation and tradition, to celebrate unity, diversity and unique perceptions MiSha catapults the visitor in a dimension beyond time and space: hanging between the past and the future. Mi-Sha is a contemporary manifesto that valorizes the proposed identity of taste. It is a hospitable location full of emotional strength, able to forge different realities and to preserve the significant nuances. Mi-Sha is the eulogy to the possible antithesis of taste and emotion.

This restaurant is in Osaka. Designers made the interior with plenty of solid wood. The owner requested the Japanese calm atmosphere. Bamboo and cedar materials which have been used in Japan since ancient times have their peculiar characteristics and texture. Therefore, a lot of bamboo was used as the material for the wall and blind, giving the impression of lightness and airiness. Bare bulb light hanging on each table is tiny light, but reflects the light of a naked light bulb in a unique glossy texture of bamboo to produce a soft glow throughout the room. There is a glossy paint on the wall of cedar panels, expecting the same effect as the bamboo. Texture of cedar is a mixture of black and white, because cedar panels are roasted using the burner. The Japanese restaurant is luxurious and modern, with simplicity and classics.

Designers: Dan Leach, Jon Lee, Alan Stickland, Hollie Down, Vaughan Ward Design Company: 20.20 Location: Emirates Stadium , London N5 1BU, UK Photographers: Philip Harvey, Martin Morrell
20.20’s design brief: To design and develop a new and exclusive Club Level – a premium hospitality area within the Emirates – giving it identity, individuality, flare and functionality that will appeal to supporters across the board and create an unrivalled matchday experience. Design concept: To celebrate the club’s past and present successes and bring this to life using the achievements of the club’s two most successful managers – Herbert Chapman and Arsène Wenger. Club Level is now made up of: The WM Club which is divided into two distinct areas, with its own private lounge area and high end a la carte restaurant in each space. The Club is named after the revolutionary 3-2-2-3 WM formation that was introduced by Herbert Chapman in the 1930s. The theme of past and present is represented through the graphics, materials and finishes used. The Foundry, a luxurious new restaurant, is named and themed around the Armament Factory where the club was founded. The celebration of past and present continues with contemporary lighting, furniture and finishes, contrasted by rich timber paneling and leather upholstered booths which provide a narrative for the birth of the club. The Woolwich has been carefully segmented to form two smaller restaurants and a substantial central lounge space. Portraits of Chapman and Wenger have been created with the full-height chain mail curtains, making the most of the vast double height space. They create a subtle break between areas of different function, but still allow them to exist as one. Legends Bar has also been refurbished to offer Club Level members the ultimate sports bar experience. It has been transformed into a stylish bar inspired by some of Arsenal’s all time greats whose portraits decorate the elite area.

3six0 Architecture 3six0 is an architecture firm headed by Kyna Leski and Chris Bardt. Our work is best defined by the spatial idea that is created out of the forces, content and limits unique to each project. This spatial idea acts as a guide to the many decisions through all stages – from sketch through construction. In this way, one does not perceive an applied theme or style. Instead, one experiences a sense of "place" that is integral to the situation, directly through the workings of the architecture: through phenomena – light, sound, view, shadow, balance – and through images triggered by the imagination. www.3six0.com

Dezzi McCausland Coming from a rural country in Northern Ireland, Interior Architect and designer Dezzi McCausland is synonymous with the ultra modern and ultra cool. Leaving his native Northern Ireland to pursue a career in fashion at the renowned London College of Fashion was the start of a great relationship between Dezzi’s creativity and his ability to turn his design concepts into creation. One way or another Dezzi fell into the world of clubs and knew that the outdated design of the West End needed an overhaul. From this initial thought he got to work on his first project that defined him as London’s relentless Club King, titled "The Kingly Club". Dezzi introduced a brand new concept to the West End, removing the large, dark space designs that most clubs stuck to and created an intimate all white club nestled in between Soho and Mayfair. Since the first Kingly Club, Dezzi has gone on to design further clubs, bars and restaurants across London and has created a brand in himself that is synonymous with a high level of attention to detail and design flair. His latest work is his new venue McQueen in Shoreditch.

Metropolis is an architecture office lead by Architect José Orrego since 1989, that works with Architecture Project as well as Interior Design, Landscaping and Urbanism. To us, the actual building represents itself as a cultural practice that may adopt different forms depending on the phase it´s inserted. Our architecture wants to create a city that enhances the citizen to live in, and also tries to set an example for those who have the same objective. That´s why we are constantly connected to global reality and cultural networks; because we´re seeking to expand our knowledge. We search the validity of our projects in time, and We´ve been proposing innovative and creative solutions for our clients for two decades. We are now one of the well known architecture companies in Lima, Perú.

Ismini Karali Design Ismini Karali, the founder of her own interior design studio, “Ismini Karali Design”, started her firm 18 years ago, after studies in business administration. She explains: “I felt the need to follow my heart and decided to get involved with art, because I knew that was my way.” The Greek Interior Designer & Architect designs restaurants, bars, clubs, dance stages and luxurious villas. She believes in complete transformation of the spaces and treats them like stages of a theatre, where people entertain, eat and enjoy life. The look of her projects consists of an innovative mood, a dynamic motion and the use of luxurious materials. All it needs is opening your brain, heart and eyes to observe, thinking while sleeping, travelling around the world and consulting magazines, books and the web. After almost 1,200 projects, Ismini Karali encounters the same worry in front of any new project: what if the inspiration doesn’t come? But the solution emerges when she leaves herself behind and gives some time and space for inspiration to come. Because she strongly believes in the saying “if you can’t find the way, make one”. There are a few stages she goes through when working; stress, meditation, excitement, hard work and creation. Her goal is to create each new project under three norms; higher, faster, better.
