For years, South Carolina’s Hammock Coast has quietly given beach lovers, golfers, families, outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs, a vacation destination infused with Southern charm and natural beauty. Made up of the communities of Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, Garden City, Litchfield Beach and Georgetown, each area has its own distinct personality, which combined, form the unique attraction of this area. You won’t have trouble claiming your spot on our beaches. Garden City, Litchfield and Pawleys Island all have spacious beaches and pristine salt marshes for soaking up the sun, exploring, or catching some fish and blue crabs for dinner. Pawleys Island, the oldest Seaside Resort in America continues to be a great place to enjoy a relaxed, laid back vacation. The island has no commercial development; however, just over the short causeway, there are first class restaurants and boutique shopping for when (if!) you want a break from relaxing on the beach. Known as the Seafood Capital of South Carolina, Murrells Inlet is a sleepy little fishing village on a protected inlet, and boasts some of the best seafood in the entire South! The Murrells Inlet Marshwalk is a boardwalk on the banks of the Inlet, and allows visitors to truly experience the salt-marsh ecosystem along with restaurants, shops, parasailing, jet skiing and fishing excursions.

A mere 12 miles from Myrtle Beach, Conway is a jewel of “Americana.” Conway is one of the oldest towns in South Carolina. Originally named Kingston, the town was created in 1734 as part of Royal Governor Robert Johnson’s Township Scheme. It was laid out on a riverbluff in the center of what became Horry County. Many area residents fought in the American Revolution and small engagements were fought near Kingston. Francis Marion, who was known as the Swamp Fox, had an encampment near Kingston just across the Waccamaw River. After the war, patriotic citizens wanted to discard the name that honored Great Britain’s King George II. The County’s name was changed to Horry (pronounced O-Ree) in honor of General Peter Horry in 1801 and a courthouse was established in Kingston. Kingston’s name was later changed to Conwayborough for General Robert Conway.

On North Carolina’s southern coast is Calabash, the picturesque one-time fishing village that modestly calls itself the “Seafood Capital of the World.” This tiny port shaded by large oaks has become synonymous with a style of cooking that involves corn meal battering and frying. Some say it all started in the 1930’s in a sleepy little fishing village nestled between inlets and marshes, just over the North Carolina border. Fishermen brought in their catch and were met by the locals to see what was caught and what they could buy. Calabash quickly became known for its fine quality of fresh shrimp and fish. Clinton Morse, a local businessman, began serving up tubs of deep-fired seafood that had been dipped in a light seasoned batter, cooked golden brown and served very hot. “Calabash style” seafood was born – conjuring up his recipe with the image of massive quantities and varieties of seafood. Hush puppies accompany every meal. Fried to a golden brown, they often reach the table before your chair is warm.

Myrtle Beach Golf The Golf Capital of the World
Part of the reason for that is the fact that there are over a hundred golf courses located in a 60-mile stretch of coastline known as the Grand Strand. You can play a different course every day for three months and still have new courses to look forward to. Another reason for that label is that here you can find some of the highest quality golf courses in the country. Golf Digest recently named several of the beach’s courses to the “Top 100 Public Courses in America” list for the 2013 – 2014 season. Thirty-six of the area’s courses hold a rank of four and a half stars or higher. Throw in nationally-known golf schools, top-quality practice facilities, restaurants and nightlife and it’s obvious why we’re the Golf Capital of the World!
Myrtle Beach Golf South Strand Built on two of South Carolina’s historic plantations along the scenic Waccamaw River, the Heritage Club is a favorite of Grand Strand golfers. Over 600 acres of giant magnolias, freshwater lakes and marshes have been transformed into a golf course that rivals any course in the Southeast. Recently honored by Golf Digest as 46th among the “Top 100 Public Golf Courses in America” for 2007-2008 and recently rated HHHH 1/2 stars in “Places to Play,” the Heritage Club is a mixture of pure Southern charm and hospitality. The Heritage Club has announced that all of its greens were renovated and Champions Bermuda is the new putting surface. The clubhouse has been renovated and upgraded to enhance guests’ experience. True Blue Plantation and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club are the only companion courses by the same designer on Golf Digest’s list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses 2003- 2006.” Architect Mike Strantz built Caledonia in 1994 and the acclaim was immediate, including a number 30 ranking on Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Courses You Can Play.” Often compared to Augusta National for its exquisite style and floral beauty, Caledonia’s Champions Ultra Dwarf Bermuda greens are true championship quality. Just
across Kings River Road, Strantz followed up four years later with True Blue and earned a “Top 10 Best New Public Course” honor from Golf Digest. Set on a Colonial indigo plantation of the same descriptive name, True Blue features surprising elevation changes, huge fairways and excellent Tif Eagle Bermuda greens. Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, a Nicklaus Signature course, features a classic Lowcountry design that you can play over and over and never have the same shot twice. With subtle greens enveloped by sand bunkers, challenging fairways dotted with water and unique obstacles evident on every hole, this is a player’s course that demands strategy, ingenuity and concentration. Pawleys Plantation was ranked by Golf Digest among South Carolina’s ‘Top 25 Layouts’ in 2001. Golf Digest has further awarded Pawleys Plantation HHHH 1/2 stars in its ‘Best Places to Play’. Other accolades include Golf For Women’s ‘Top 10 Women Friendly Courses in America’ 1999 and Travel & Leisure Golf’s ‘4-Star Golf’ in 2001. The Tradition Golf Club is a championship course that boasts the proud traditions of the great courses that have stood the test of time. Amenities abound at the Tradition, from comfortable dining, to the elaborate

Myrtle Beach Golf recently awarded 5 stars by Golf Digest It is the only course on the Grand Strand to receive such an honor. Recently the course greens were replaced with MiniVerde Ultradwarf – the same type of grass that the PGA Tour used in its renovation of the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. The greenside bunkers have been refurbished with new drainage and sand. Blackmoor features the only Grand Strand design by legendary South African pro Gary Player. Named “Golf Course of the Year” in 2001 by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association, Blackmoor offers groomed TifEagle Bermuda greens in a scenic formerplantation setting. Add this enjoyable Player challenge to complete your Myrtle Beach golf package. In Wachesaw Plantation East, architect Clyde Johnston has created an alluring taste of Scottish design. Located in the scenic fishing village of Murrells Inlet, just 20 minutes south of the Myrtle Beach International Airport, Wachesaw Plantation East Golf Club is a championship 18-hole facility built on the site of a former rice plantation. This exhilarating design has been the site of four nationally-televised, professional golf tournaments on the LPGA Tour: the 1997 Susan G. Koman International, the 1998 & 1999 City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic, and the 2000 Kathy Ireland/Greens.com Classic. Wachesaw Plantation East has also been named the 2007 Myrtle Beach “Golf Course of the Year” by Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association. Wicked Stick Golf Links is the Myrtle Beach area’s only John Daly Signature Course. With very few trees in a Scottishstyle landscape, Daly’s inspiration is evident on the doublewide fairways separated by huge mounds and the short par fours that invite visiting players to “grip it and rip it.” With big TifDwarf Bermuda greens, a practice facility and a convenient location near the airport, Wicked Stick is a fun addition to any Grand Strand golf package. Prestwick Country Club features a codesign by father-son architects Pete and P.B. Dye that was recently named by Golf Digest among its “Five Best-Kept Secret Courses.” A host of the South Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship and a US Open qualifier, Prestwick is a sculpted layout with deep bunkers, giant berms and those famous Dye bulkheads framing many of the TifDwarf greens.
North Strand Legends Resort is one of the Grand Strands finest stay and play facilities. Legends guests enjoy two and three bedroom golf villas, a lighted 30-acre practice facility and an onsite Scottish tavern, the Ailsa Pub. The resort is home to three award- winning courses. Section Name dictate the flow of the course. This links course’s windswept hills and deep-faced bunkers are just a few of the challenges that await each player. The greens were recently renovated and Champion Bermuda is the new putting surface. This course is a true test of Old World golf. The Moorland is a P.B. Dye design and was recently name by Golf Digest as one of the “Fifty Toughest Courses in America” at #37. It remains one of the most unique courses on the East Coast. Dye’s panache for multilevel fairways and greens and signature bulkheads has transformed this land into one of Myrtle Beach’s most requested courses. The Legends Parkland stands on its own merits. The Parkland is modeled after the style of architects Alister MacKenzie (Augusta National) and George Thomas (Riviera Country Club) and was designed to compliment nature so closely as to make the layout indistinguishable from nature itself. Enjoy treelined fairways, vast natural areas, substantial undulating greens and experience a day of exceptional golf. All three of the Legends courses have been awarded HHHH 1/2 stars from Golf Digest. Arrowhead Country Club is one of Myrtle Beach’s premier 27-Hole golf complexes. With a canvas of 419 Bermuda grass fairways and MiniVerde Bermuda grass greens, the team of Ray Floyd (4 time major championship winner - 1969 & 1982 PGA, 1976 Masters & 1986 U.S. Open) and Tom Jackson have created a 27-hole masterpiece along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway. Arrowhead features three unique 9-hole tracts: The Waterway, The Cypress and The Lakes, each one with a feel all its own. Arrowhead is conveniently located five minutes from the Airport and within fifteen minutes of downtown Myrtle Beach. Ask about the seasonal special where you can play all 27 for the 18 hole rate! Wild Wing Plantation is home to the award winning 18-hole Avocet Course and the 9-hole Hummingbird Course. Designed by U.S. Open and two-time PGA Champion Larry Nelson, the Avocet features unique greenside mounding, extensive fairways and green contouring, and an imaginative routing plan that includes several double fairways and a double green. Golfers have many choices to make when they play the Avocet Course. The course also features exceptional MiniVerde Bermuda greens. Wild Wing was named “Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year” and “South Carolina Golf Course of the Year” in 2002. Wild Wing Plantation has recently won awards from Golf Digest “Best Places to Play” (2008-2009) with four star course rating on both the Avocet and Hummingbird courses. Wild Wing also won a Zagat survey award for “America’s Top Golf Courses” (2009/2010). Wild Wing uses the “Single Tee” method to start players on both courses so there is no delay at the turn. Wild Wing is being redeveloped into a first class residential neighborhood with great amenities including golf, tennis, boating, swimming, and a club atmosphere. The golf course is available for public and resort play and is offered by all the leading area golf packagers. Myrtle Beach National Golf Club is home to three Prime Times Signature Courses including: SouthCreek, West Course, and the renowned King’s North. Arnold Palmer, along with Francis Duane, designed all three layouts: King’s North, opened in 1973 and totally refurbished in 1996, was most recently honored by inclusion on the Golf Digest list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses 2007-2008.” The North’s Champion UltraDwarf Bermuda greens are superb and “The Gambler” is one of golf’s best risk-reward holes. SouthCreek was named among America’s “Top 100” by Golf For Women in 2002- 2003 and features Champion Bermuda greens on a shotmaker’s layout. The West Course sports Champion Bermuda greens as well, in a parkland-style design with minimal rough. This unique trio of Arnold Palmer courses at Myrtle Beach National is available with Prime Times packages that can include golf villa or oceanfront accommodations. World Tour Golf Links is a truly unique facility with designs inspired by famous courses like Augusta National, Doral, Pinehurst, Pine Valley, St. Andrews and Winged Foot. Named “National Golf Course of the Year” for 2004 by the National Golf Course Owners Association, the bentgrass greens are well-conditioned, bronze 94 On The Beach 2014

Myrtlewood Golf Club offers golfers a choice of two 18-hole layouts conveniently located in the heart of Myrtle Beach. Many of the historical golf holes were maintained while twelve new holes were created to improve the golf experience that visitors from around the world have come to associate with Pine Lakes. Grande Dunes Resort Club was named one of the “Top 100 Public Golf Courses” in America by Golf Digest Magazine in 20112012. The Resort Club was also awarded “Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association in 2009. Golf at Grande Dunes Resort Club feels completely natural yet effortlessly refined.
