Obras de Rufino Tamayo y charla académica en el Figge Art Museum en Davenport Entre el 7 de julio y el 30 de diciembre de 2018, el Museo de Arte Figge en Davenport invita al público a ver las obras de Rufino Tamayo, que fue el primer pintor latinoamericano en recibir reconocimiento internacional. Su obra fue influenciada por el arte moderno, el imaginario precolombino y por su herencia zapoteca y se lo considera muy individualista. Incluye grabados, pinturas y esculturas. El Museo de Figge tendrá una colección de siete copias de Tamayo para que el público las vea. Tamayo completó sus impresiones utilizando numerosas técnicas, que incluyen litografía, grabado, aguatinta y el proceso de Mixografía, que ayudó a desarrollar. Mixografia consiste en presionar una hoja de pulpa de papel húmeda sobre una placa metálica entintada que ha elevado las áreas de diseño. A medida que la placa entintada y la pulpa se comprimen juntas, el agua es expulsada y la pulpa se moldea a la superficie. Las impresiones tienen cualidades esculturales que mejoran el color intenso incrustado en el papel. Para acompañar la exploración de artistas mexicanos durante la exposición Rufino Tamayo, el museo ofrecerá una charla académica especial.

Scholar Talk, una conferencia impartida por la Dra. Mónica Bravo, será el jueves 9 de agosto de 6:30 p.m. a 7:30 p.m. La Dra. Bravo hablará sobre la fotografía modernista mexicana. El Dr. Bravo solía dar conferencias para la Historia del Arte y la Etnicidad. Raza y migración en el Departamento de Historia del Arte en la Universidad de Yale. Actualmente, Dra. Bravo es Profesora Asistente en Historia y Teoría de los Medios Fotográficos en California College of Arts. Este evento es gratuito y se llevará a cabo en el Auditorio John Deere. Después de la conferencia, el público está invitado a ver la exposición Rufino Tamayo. La exposición estará abierta hasta las 9:00 PM del día de la conferencia. Rufino Tamayo works and Scholar Talk at the Figge Between July 7 and December 30, 2018 Figge’s Museum invites public for viewing of works of Rufino Tamayo, who was a first Latin American painter to receive international recognition. His work was influenced by modern art, pre-Colombian imaginary and by his Zapotec heritage and considered highly individualistic. It includes prints, paintings and sculptures. Figge’s Museum will have grouping of seven Tamayo’s prints for public to view. Tamayo completed his prints utilizing numerous techniques, including lithogra-

phy, etching, aquatint, and the Mixografia process—which he helped develop. Mixografia involves pressing a sheet of damp paper pulp onto an inked metal plate which has raised areas of design. As the inked plate and the pulp are compressed together, the water is squeezed out and the pulp is molded to the surface. The prints have sculptural qualities that enhance the rich color embedded into the paper. To accompany the museums exploration of Mexican artists during the exhibition Rufino Tamayo the museum will offer a

special Scholar Talk. Scholar Talk, a lecture given by Dr. Monica Bravo, will be on Thursday, August 9, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Dr. Bravo will talk about Mexican modernist photography. Dr. bravo used to give lectures for the History of Art and Ethnicity. Race and Migration at Department of History of Art in Yale University. Currently Dr. Bravo is an Assistant Professor in the History and Theory of Photographic Media at California College of Arts. This event is free to public and it will take place at John Deere Audito-

rium. After the lecture the public is invited to view the exhibition Rufino Tamayo. The exhibition will be open until 9:00 PM the day of lecture. Según Sarah Wright, Directora de Desarrollo y Comunicaciones para The Arc del área de Quad Cities, The Arc es la organización más grande en los Estados Unidos que sirve y aboga por personas con discapacidades intelectuales y físicas tales como síndrome de Down, autismo, trastornos del espectro alcohólico fetal, parálisis cerebral y otros. The Arc of the Quad Cities Area can be that help for people with disabilities. According Sarah Wright, Director of Development and Communications for The Arc of the Quad Cities Area, The Arc is the biggest organization in the United States that serves and advocates for people with intellectual and physical disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, cerebral palsy and

others. La Cumbre de Empresarios Inmigrantes (IES) está en proceso de expansión a diferentes lugares en todo el país. Como parte de esta expansión, IES finalmente vendrá a Illinois. Families United for a Strong Education in the Sauk Valley By Anastassia Zvoryguina This program, offered through Sauk Valley Community College located in Dixon, IL, helps bilingual families in the area to meet their educational goals. F.U.S.E (Families United for a Strong Education) is a bilingual program intended for Hispanics who are learning English as a second language and who have children in 4th through 12th grade. “F.U.S.E.’s goal is to assist families in set-

ting higher educational goals, improving their quality of life, and increasing communication between family members,” Ana Salgado, coordinator of cross cultural services who oversees this program, explained the purpose of this program. “The F.U.S.E. program provides sessions to assist families in overcoming barriers that limit their academic success” In order to help families F.U.S.E. offers information and such topics as the advantages of a postsecondary education, how to

plan for college and better communication among family members. This helpful program also offers information about available college and community resources. “Parents are encouraged to attend ESL/ GED classes offered through Sauk Valley Community College and to become engaged in their children’s education,” Ms. Salgado said. F.U.S.E. is not just any other program that helps college bound students. This program helps whole families to meet their

educational goals and that will translate in better lives for everyone. F.U.S.E. collaborates extensively with Sauk Valley Community College’s CrossCultural Services and the YWCA of the Sauk Valley’s Immigrant Family Resource Program. The event will display traditional dances from Mexico performed by the students of the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico. The performance starts at 7:00 PM but make sure to come early to find a good spot on the lawn. Blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers are welcomed. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Honor 200 aims to feature Veterans at Illinois’ 200th Birthday Celebration The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Illinois BiCentennial Committee will honor the work of 200 veterans from across the State of Illinois, whose contributions are above and beyond the call of duty as they dedicate their time and energy to assist their fellow veterans and service members. Nominees are evaluated based on their achievements, and on the extent to which their contributions have aided, benefited and provided inspiration to their community at large. In Addition, nominees must have received an honorable discharge from the U.S. military and reside in Illinois. This award has a very special meaning. It provides our state, as well as the Governor of Illinois, with an opportunity to showcase the value of community service as exemplified by our Illinois Veterans. Through their past experiences, they’ve embodied his virtue to the greatest extent. Whether it be service to one’s country, one’s

family,friends,neighbors or community,the example set by our veterans illustrates how far individuals are willing to go, to help their fellow citizens. Both on and off the battlefield, veterans exemplify the meaning of selfless service, courage and compassion. In this way, they are the exact role models we need in our communities! Finales de Liga de fútbol de los QC July 15, 2018 East Moline, IL

Los campos de la ciudad de East Moline fueron la sede de las finales del torneo de apertura de la liga de fútbol de los Quad Cities. The soccer fields in the city of East Moline were the venue for the finals of the spring tournament of the Quad Cities Soccer league. While African immigrants helped the French national team win the world cup in Russia at the same time African immigrants here in the Quad Cities, of the team Hard Target, won the championship of the “Primera Especial” division by defeating San Nicolas last Sunday. In the finals of the “Primera A” division La Loma defeated team Guanajuato by the way of penalty kicks. Congratulations to all the teams and the organizers of the league.
