East Moline, IL- La pasión de Zolimar García por la música brilla en cada nota que toca. Con sólo 16 años de edad, ya ha conseguido en su carrera musical más de lo que muchos logran en toda una vida. Ahora, García tiene la vista puesta en un nuevo objetivo: un viaje a Italia con la Quad City Youth Symphony Orchestra (QCYSO) junto con otros jóvenes talentos bajo la dirección de la Quad City Symphony Orchestra. La Quad City Youth Symphony Orchestra es una orquesta completa que debuta con jóvenes músicos avanzados de los Quad Cities. Esta oportunidad, dice, es un sueño hecho realidad y un paso crucial hacia su aspiración de convertirse en músico profesional.
“La música es mi pasión”, afirma. Nacida en los Quad Cities pero con raíces en Guerrero, México, el recorrido de García hacia la música comenzó en Glenview Middle School. Al principio tocaba la guitarra en la banda de mariachis de su escuela, pero se pasó a la flauta en sexto grado por sugerencia de su profesor de banda. Esta decisión le abrió un mundo de posibilidades en el que ha tocado con orgullo durante seis años.
Su dedicación a este arte la llevó a la Orquesta Filarmónica Juvenil en séptimo grado, donde inicialmente estaba en lista de espera, pero pronto se ganó un lugar. Su perseverancia dio sus frutos, y en su primer año de preparatoria pasó a formar parte de la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil (YSO). García mencionó su experiencia de presentarse no sólo a las audiciones de la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil, sino también a las de la Orquesta Filarmónica Juvenil (YPO), que es otro nivel en la formación de conjuntos juveniles. “Pasé un año entero tocando con la YPO y después de los ensayos me quedaba a ver ensayar a la orquesta superior, la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil. Me ayudó a sentirme inspirada y a presentarme a las audiciones de la YSO”, señala García en su tercer año con la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil. Su trabajo duro y talento también fueron reconocidos cuando llegó a la orquesta más importante del estado en su segundo año de preparatoria.
En 2025, la QCSO ofrecerá a sus jóvenes miembros la extraordinaria oportunidad de presentarse en Venecia, Florencia y Roma. Para García, este viaje es algo más que una emocionante aventura; es una experiencia educativa de valor incalculable. “¡Estoy tan emocionada de tocar música orquestal en los hermosos escenarios de Italia, y de ver y aprender sobre el lugar de nacimiento de algunos compositores influyentes
de la música clásica!”. Sin embargo, el costo del viaje es un obstáculo importante para su familia, lo que la ha llevado a iniciar una recaudación de fondos con el objetivo de conseguir 5,000 dólares para ayudar con los costos del viaje.
El recorrido musical de García está marcado por la influencia de mentores clave. Su profesora de flauta, Lynne Stukart, y Ernesto Estigarribia, el ex-director musical del Youth Ensemble, han sido fundamentales en su desarrollo. Recuerda que Estigarribia fue a su escuela secundaria para hablarles de la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de los Quad Cities. “Vi al Sr. Estigarribia, que es latino como yo, dirigir la orquesta y me di cuenta de que yo podía ser músico como él”. García espera que más latinos se dediquen a las bellas artes, subrayando la importancia de la representación y la tutoría.
Sus logros hablan por sí solos de su talento y dedicación. Desde recibir el Premio del Director en la escuela secundaria, hasta quedar segunda en el concurso Charles B. DCamp Young Performer’s Solo del QC Wind Ensemble, García ha sobresalido constantemente. Es la primera flautista de la Banda Sinfónica de la Escuela Preparatoria United Township y ha tocado en el foso de la orquesta para musicales, la Asociación de Educación Musical de Illinois, y “este año llegué a la orquesta más importante, la orquesta de honores, en el estado para el ILMEA all-state como 4ª flauta”, afirma García con orgullo mientras continúa mostrando su versatilidad y compromiso con su oficio. Una de sus actuaciones más memorables fue “Sinfonía India” del compositor mexicano Carlos Chávez. “Me encanta escuchar música clásica romántica, honestamente cualquier pieza orquestal y de Broadway”, dice sobre sus diversos intereses musicales.
El próximo viaje a Italia representa para García algo más que una gira de presentaciones. “Como alguien que planea ser músico profesional en el futuro, será una experiencia maravillosa ver cómo son las giras para un músico y, por supuesto, conocer una cultura diferente, visitar nuevos lugares y probar nuevas cocinas será una experiencia que durará toda la vida”, afirma entusiasmada. Desde explorar el Coliseo de Roma hasta las calles de Venecia, cada momento promete ser una fuente de inspiración”. Mientras se embarca en esta aventura de recaudación de fondos, García ofrece un consejo a otros jóvenes aspirantes a músicos: “Simplemente hazlo, ve a por ello”. Su historia es un testimonio del poder de la pasión, la perseverancia y el apoyo de los Quad
Cities que creen en los sueños de sus jóvenes artistas. Al contribuir a la recaudación de fondos de García, sus seguidores no sólo la están ayudando a alcanzar un sueño, sino que están invirtiendo en el futuro de una músico de talento que está preparada para hacer contribuciones significativas no sólo al mundo de la música clásica, sino a todos los géneros musicales. Quad Cities, IA/IL- En los últimos años, el panorama empresarial ha experimentado una notable transformación con una oleada de dinámicas e influyentes empresarias latinas que han dejado su huella en diversos sectores. Sus historias no sólo son inspiradoras, sino que representan un poderoso testimonio de la incalculable contribución de las mujeres. Históricamente, se han enfrentado a retos únicos en el mundo de los negocios, pero han seguido adelante con deseos de superación, determinación y herencia cultural. Esta empresaria no sólo hace gala de su empuje y perseverancia, sino que se dedica a enseñar y animar a otras mujeres a perseguir sus sueños.
Adriana Rodríguez-Almanza, originaria de Chicago, es hija del querido fundador de Jose’s Tires. Su padre, José Rodríguez, era el propietario y administrador del negocio antes de vendérselo a su hija. Antes de adquirir el negocio, Rodríguez-Almanza estaba cursando su maestría en Asesoramiento en Rehabilitación. Cuando su padre le ofreció el negocio, ella aún estaba estudiando y vivía en Chicago. Sin embargo, optó por continuar su legado y seguir con el negocio junto a su marido, Héctor Almanza, que sabía de coches y construcción. “A veces, ni siquiera sabemos adónde nos pueden llevar las oportuni-
dades de la vida”, afirma Rodríguez-Almanza. Ella y su marido tenían propiedades en Chicago y trabajos decentes, a veces cubriendo el negocio de su padre a lo largo de los años. “Pero no sabíamos nada de neumáticos. La vida abre oportunidades y depende de ti decir: ‘Bueno, voy a hacerlo’”. Rodríguez-Almanza y su marido vendieron sus propiedades y se mudaron a los Quad Cities. Almanza se mudó primero en 2012 y Rodríguez-Almanza le siguió en 2014 después de terminar su posgrado. Con su expansión en 2016, abrieron Jose’s Tires 2 dividiendo la responsabilidad de ambas tiendas entre ambos con Rodríguez-Almanza tomando la ubicación de Davenport. Rodríguez-Almanza conocía los riesgos, afirmando que como propietaria de un negocio se necesita mucho trabajo, pero también mucha dedicación. Cuando se le preguntó qué consejo daría a las jóvenes latinas de la comunidad que quieren un negocio, ella aconseja: “Para abrir un negocio, tienes que aceptar el cambio. Vas a desempeñar diferentes papeles. No soy sólo la dueña o la gerente, tengo que hacer cosas como limpiar, aprender sobre el inventario y los suministros. Cosas que no compraría en mi vida. Tengo que hacer marketing, aprender sobre atención al cliente”, y enumera otras muchas cosas que forman parte de un negocio de neumáticos. Como latina en una industria tan dominada por los hombres, Rodríguez-Almanza pasó horas investigando y familiarizándose con los productos y servicios. “Si no sabía ciertas cosas, tenía que buscarlas en Google para obtener respuestas logísticas y coherentes”. Rodríguez-Almanza se alegra de contar con el apoyo de su marido y su familia. “Invertir en un negocio es un reto. Es un reto elaborar un plan y saber cómo vas a dirigirlo. Pero no es imposible”. Rodríguez-Almanza continuó diciendo que quienes estén interesados en iniciar un negocio deben tomar cursos y tener una red de contactos. “Especialmente si eres mamá, vas a necesitar apoyo de la familia. Elabora un plan”. Para las latinas que sienten pasión por algo o incluso si no están seguras de lo que quieren hacer con sus carreras, Rodríguez-Almanza anima a todas a empezar poco a poco. Su consejo: Involúcrate y ve cómo funciona un negocio primero, y asegúrate siempre de tener apoyo. “A veces ni siquiera sabemos adónde nos pueden llevar las oportunidades, pero si eres buena en peluquería, uñas, etc. y tienes talento, ¡haz un negocio de eso! Entonces te darás cuenta de que
puedes hacerlo; te sorprenderá lo que puedes llegar a hacer de ti misma”.
A pesar de las largas jornadas que requiere su negocio, aporta sus conocimientos y su apoyo a la comunidad latina. “Vienen muchas mujeres que no saben nada de neumáticos, igual que yo no sabía nada. Les enseño lo básico que yo he aprendido”. Con la cantidad de conocimientos que tiene, la pasión de Rodríguez-Almanza es seguir compartiendo lo que ha aprendido para ayudar a enseñar a los clientes cómo cuidar de sus coches y neumáticos - una contribución que es útil en cualquier comunidad.

Davenport, IA- Alternating Currents, que tendrá lugar del 15 al 18 de agosto de 2024, será la sede del mayor festival de cine anual de los Quad Cities, en el que se proyectarán docenas de películas de cineastas emergentes y se exhibirán muchos de los mejores cortometrajes e independientes de diversos géneros.
Alternating Currents Film Festival ha atraído a cineastas locales, nacionales e internacionales, incluidas presentaciones de París, Los Ángeles, Hamburgo, Londres, Nueva York, Chicago, Iowa City, Des Moines y los Quad Cities. Desde su creación en 2017, el festival ha recibido más de 300 presentaciones y ha puesto el foco en los cineastas locales, incluida la celebración de un evento especial con cineastas de Hollywood vinculados a QC, Scott Beck y Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place, The Boogeyman, 65).

Emile es un asesino a sueldo que viaja en bicicleta y que mata a cambio de unos billetes que deja en un pequeño buzón perdido en medio del campo. Esta vez, el hombre al que hay que matar se llama Gaston Pouget y vive en el número 7 de la rue des Peupliers, que es un cobertizo al borde de una autopista. Al llegar al lugar, Emile es sorprendido por un cumpleaños en honor de Gaston que debe llegar pronto. Emile no ha sido invitado.
Vuelo roto, Directores: Erika Valenciana, Mitchell Wenkus (Chicago, IL)
La temporada de migración es cuando Annette Prince y los demás observadores de aves de Chicago Collision están más ocupados, ya que la madre naturaleza se abalanza literalmente sobre el entorno urbano. En este documental, Annette reúne a voluntarios que llegan al centro de la ciudad antes del amanecer, en busca de aves que hayan volado hacia los rascacielos, antes de dirigirse a sus trabajos cotidianos. Las aves que sobreviven son enviadas al Willowbrook Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Broken Flight nos presenta a los voluntarios, científicos y veterinarios que rescatan, estudian y catalogan estas increíbles especies aviares.
Essential Essence, Director: Patrick Boberg (Des Moines, IA)
Esta película se creó en 48 horas para el 48 Hour Film Project. La idea de hacer una película de marionetas surgió el día de Navidad de 2022, a través de una conversación de texto al azar. A partir de ahí, los creadores se propusieron hacer 6 marionetas, pero ese número acabó creciendo hasta convertirse en más de una docena. No tenían ni idea de qué historia iban a contar, pero contaban con un maravilloso equipo de originales accesorios. Meet Me at the End of It All, Dirigida por: Brandon Gale (Rock Island, IL)
En un mundo al borde de la aniquilación por la inminente caída de un meteorito, esta
historia sigue el improbable encuentro entre Kim e Ian, dos almas que se enfrentan a su inminente final. Mientras recorren las desoladas calles en busca de refugio, Kim tropieza con Ian en lo alto de un estacionamiento desierto, resignado a presenciar en soledad la desaparición del mundo. Cultural Abduction es una película que arroja luz sobre el recuerdo y el amor a uno mismo y a su cultura. Su director, Abdur Howard, afirma: “A menudo me preguntan qué inspiró Cultural Abduction. Aunque el verdadero significado de la película excedería con mucho un breve resumen, puedo decir que Secuestro cultural es una oda a las personas que se esconden de su propia grandeza. Utilicen esta película como recordatorio para no cambiar nunca autenticidad por aprobación y recuerden siempre el poder de la individualidad. No importa quién seas, dónde estés o con quién estés, recuerda de dónde vienes. Sólo puedes conectar los puntos mirando hacia atrás”.
Fuga de voces, dirigida por: Kimberly Buikema (Brooklyn, NY - originaria de Morrison, IL)
“Voice Fugue” experimenta con el doble significado de la palabra fuga, utilizando técnicas de composición fugal para editar texto hablado e imágenes con el fin de contar una breve historia de vagabundeo inesperado, disociación y pérdida de identidad. Además de ser una forma musical, la fuga también se refiere a un estado de disociación y amnesia en el que una persona pierde el sentido de sí misma, la identidad y la memoria. “Voice Fugue” experimenta con ambos significados, utilizando técnicas de composición de fugas para editar texto hablado e imágenes con el fin de contar una breve historia de vagabundeo inesperado, disociación y pérdida de identidad.

East Moline, IL- Zolimar Garcia’s passion for music shines through in every note she plays. At just 16 years old, she has already accomplished more in her musical career than many achieve in a lifetime. Now, Garcia has her sights set on a new goal: a trip to Italy with the Quad City Youth Symphony Orchestra (QCYSO) with other young talent under the direction of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. The Quad City Youth Symphony Orchestra is a full orchestra that premiers young advanced musicians of the Quad Cities. This opportunity, she says, is a dream come true and a crucial step toward her aspiration of becoming a professional musician.
“Music is my passion,” she shares. Born in the Quad Cities but with roots in Guerrero, Mexico, Garcia’s journey into music began at Glenview Middle School. Initially picking up the guitar in her school’s Mariachi band, she transitioned to the flute in sixth grade at the suggestion of her band teacher. This decision opened a world of possibilities as she has proudly played for six years so far.
Her dedication to her craft led her to the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in seventh grade, where she was initially waitlisted but soon earned a spot. Her perseverance paid off, and she progressed to the Youth Symphony Orchestra (YSO) by her freshman year of high school. Garcia went on to mention her experience of auditioning not only for the Youth Symphony Orchestra, but also the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO) which is another level in the youth ensemble lineup. “I spent a whole year playing with the YPO and after rehearsals I would stay and watch the higher orchestra, the Youth Symphony Orchestra rehearse. It helped me feel inspired and to audition for YSO,” Garcia notes as she pursues her third year with the Youth Symphony Orchestra. Her hard work and talent were also recognized when she made it to the All-State highest orchestra in 10th grade.
In 2025, the QCSO will offer its young members an extraordinary chance to perform in Venice, Florence, and Rome. For Garcia, this trip is more than just an exciting adventure; it’s an invaluable educational experience. “I’m so excited to play orchestral music at the beautiful venues of Italy, and to see and learn about the birthplace of some influential composers of classical music!” However, the cost of the trip is a significant hurdle for her family, prompting her to initiate a fundraiser with a goal of $5,000. Garcia’s musical journey is marked by the influence of key mentors. Her flute teacher, Lynne Stukart, and Ernesto Estigarribia, the former Youth Ensemble’s Music Director, have been pivotal in her development. She recalls Estigarribia coming to her middle school to talk about the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. “I saw Mr. Estigarribia, who is Latino like me, conduct the orchestra and I realized I could be a musician like him.” Garcia hopes that more Latinos will pursue the fine arts, underscoring the importance of representation and mentorship. Her achievements speak volumes about her talent and dedication. From receiving The Director’s Award in middle school, to placing second in the QC Wind Ensemble’s Charles B. DCamp Young Performer’s Solo competition, Garcia has consistently excelled. She is the first chair flutist in the United Township High School Symphonic Band and has played in the pit orchestra for musicals, the Illinois Music Education Association, and “this year I made it to the highest orchestra, honors orchestra, in the state for ILMEA all-state as 4th chair flute,” states Garcia proudly as she continues showcasing her versatility and commitment to her craft. One of her most memorable performances was “Sinfonia India” by Mexican composer Carlos Chavez. “I absolutely love listening to romantic classical, honestly any orchestral piece and Broadway,” she says of her diverse musical interests.
The upcoming trip to Italy represents more than just a performance tour for Garcia. “As someone who is plan-
ning to be a professional musician in the future, this will be a wonderful experience to see what touring is like for a musician and of course learning about a different culture, visiting new places, and trying new cuisines will be an experience that will last a lifetime,” she enthuses. From exploring the Colosseum in Rome to the streets of Venice, every moment promises to be an inspiration.
As she embarks on this fundraising journey, Garcia offers a piece of advice to other aspiring young musicians: “Just do it, go for it.” Her story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the support of the Quad Cities that believes in the dreams of its young artists. Historically, they have faced unique challenges in the business world yet forge ahead with ambition, determination, and cultural heritage. This businesswoman not only displays this drive and perseverance but is dedicated to educating and encouraging other women to push for their dreams.
Adriana Rodriguez-Almanza, originally from Chi-
cago, is the daughter of the beloved founder of Jose’s Tires. Her father - Jose Rodriguez owned and operated the business before selling it to his daughter. Before acquiring the business, Rodriguez-Almanza was pursuing her master’s degree in Rehab Counseling. When her father offered her the business, she was still in school and lived in Chicago. However, she chose to continue his legacy and continue the business alongside her husband, Hector Almanza, who knew about cars and construction. “Sometimes, we don’t even know where life opportunities can take us,” Rodriguez-Almanza states. She and her husband owned properties in Chicago and had decent jobs, sometimes covering for her father’s business throughout the years. “But we knew nothing about tires. Life opens opportunities and it’s up to you to say ‘Okay, I’m gonna do it.’” Rodriguez-Almanza and her husband sold their properties and moved to the Quad Cities. Almanza moved first in 2012 and Rodriguez-Almanza followed in 2014 after completing her graduate degree. With their expansion in 2016, they opened Jose’s Tires 2 dividing the responsibility of both shops amongst each other with Rodriguez-Almanza taking the Davenport location. Rodriguez-Almanza knew the risks, stating that as a business owner it takes a lot of work but also a lot of dedication. When asked what advice she would give to the young Latinas in the community wanting a business, she advises, “To open a business, you have to embrace change. You’re going to play different roles. I’m not just the owner or the manager, I have to do things like cleaning, learn about the inventory and supplies. Things I would never buy in my life. I have to do marketing, learn about customer service,” and she lists numerous other things that go into a tire business. As a Latina in such a male-dominated industry, Rodriguez-Almanza spent hours researching and familiarizing herself with the products and services. “If I didn’t know certain things, I had to Google them for logistical and consistent answers.” Rodriguez-Almanza is glad she has the support of her husband and her family. “To invest in a business is a challenge. It’s a challenge to put a plan together and know how you’re going to run it. But it’s not impossible.” Rodriguez-Almanza went on to say that those who are interested in starting a business should take courses and have a network. “Especially if you are a mom, you’re going to need support from the family. Come up with a plan.”
For Latinas who are passionate about something or even if they are uncertain what they want to do with
their careers, Rodriguez-Almanza encourages everyone to start small. Her advice: Get involved and see how a business works first, and always make sure you have support. “Sometimes we don’t even know where opportunities can take us, but if you’re good at hair, nails, etc. and if you have a talent, make a business out of that! Then you’ll see, ‘I can do this’; you’ll be surprised what you’ll make out of yourself.”
Despite the long hours it takes to run her business, she contributes her knowledge and support to the Latina community. “I get a lot of women that come here and don’t know anything about tires, just like I knew nothing. I teach them the basics that I have learned.” With the amount of knowledge she has, RodriguezAlmanza’s passion is to continue sharing what she’s learned to help educate customers on how to take care of their cars and tires – a contribution that is helpful in any community.

Davenport, IA- Alternating Currents, happening August 15-18, 2024, hosts the Quad Cities’ largest annual film festival, featuring dozens of film screenings from rising filmmakers, showcasing many of the best independent and short films in an array of genres.
Alternating Currents Film Festival has attracted filmmakers locally, nationally and internationally, including submissions from Paris, Los Angeles, Hamburg, London, New York City, Chicago, Iowa City, Des Moines and the Quad Cities. Since its inception in 2017, the festival has received over 300 submissions and put a spotlight on local filmmakers, including hosting a special event with Hollywood filmmakers with QC ties, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place, The Boogeyman, 65).
This year, 24 official film selections will be shown at a new boutique theatre, The Last Picture House, 325 E. 2nd St., Davenport, owned by Beck and Woods in downtown Davenport. The venue boasts two indoor theaters and a rooftop theater for outdoor viewing. The new space offers an exciting opportunity for filmmakers to screen in a state-of-the-art venue for an intimate viewing experience for attendees.

Adieu Gaston, Director: Victor Guilbaud (France)
Emile is a contract killer who travels by bicycle and who kills in exchange for a few tickets left in a small mailbox lost in the middle of the fields. This time, the man to be slaughtered is named Gaston Pouget and lives at 7 rue des Peupliers, which is a shed on the edge of a highway. Arriving on the scene, Emile is surprised by a birthday in honor of Gaston who should arrive soon. Emile was not invited.
Broken Flight, Directors: Erika Valenciana, Mitchell Wenkus (Chicago, IL) Migration season is when Annette Prince and the other Chicago Collision Bird Monitors are the busiest as Mother Nature literally slams into the urban environment. In this documentary, Annette assembles volunteers as they arrive downtown before sunrise, looking for birds that have flown into skyscrapers—before heading to their day jobs. The birds that survive are sent away for a stay at the Willowbrook Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Broken Flight introduces us to the volunteers, scientists and veterinarians who rescue, study and catalog these amazing avian species.
Essential Essence, Director: Patrick Boberg (Des Moines, IA)
This film was created in 48 hours for the 48 Hour Film Project. The idea to make a puppet film popped up on Christmas Day 2022, via a random text conversation. From there the makers set out to make 6 puppets, but that number eventually grew into making more than a dozen. They had no idea what story they were going to tell, but had a wonderful set of original props.
Meet Me at the End of It All, Directed by: Brandon Gale (Rock Island, IL)
In a world on the brink of annihilation by an impending meteor strike, this story follows the unlikely encounter between Kim and Ian, two souls grappling with their impending end. As they navigate the desolate streets in search of refuge, Kim stumbles upon Ian atop a deserted parking garage, resigned to witness the world’s demise in solitude. Despite their initial differences, they form an unexpected bond as they share their stories of love lost and the personal struggles that led them to this pivotal moment. Through heartfelt conversations and moments of vulnerability, they confront their pasts, confronting the regrets and heartaches
that have left them alone in their final hours. Against the backdrop of impending doom, “Meet Me At The End Of It All” is a poignant exploration of love, loss and the transformative power of human connection in the face of adversity. As the world teeters on the brink of oblivion, Kim and Ian’s journey serves as a reminder that even in the darkest of times, the light of love can still shine through.
Parallel Lines, Directed by: Hannah Rosalie Wright (Des Moines, IA)
This is the music video for Parallel Lines, written and performed by Holding Hour, an indie rock/shoegaze/dreampop duo from Iowa. A couple lives separate lives under the same roof.
Cultural Abduction, Directed by: Abdur M. Howard (Davenport, IA)
Cultural Abduction is a film that shines a light on the remembrance and love of oneself and one’s culture. Director Abdur Howard said, “It is often that people ask me what inspired ‘Cultural Abduction.’ While the true meaning behind the film would far exceed a short summary, I can say that Cultural Abduction is an ode to the people who hide from their own greatness. Please use this film as a reminder to never trade authenticity for approval and always remember individuality’s power. No matter who you
are, where you are, or who you are with, remember where you came from. You can only connect the dots by looking backward.”
Voice Fugue, Directed by: Kimberly Buikema (Brooklyn, NY – originally from Morrison, IL)
“Voice Fugue” experiments with dual meanings of the word fugue, using fugal composition techniques to edit both spoken text and imagery to tell a brief story of unexpected wandering, disassociation and loss of identity. Along with being a musical form, fugue also refers to a disassociated, amnesiac state in which a person loses all sense of self, identity and memory. “Voice Fugue” experiments with both of these meanings, using fugal composition techniques to edit both spoken text and imagery to tell a brief story of unexpected wandering, disassociation and loss of identity.
