Los Iowa Cubs organizaron su 11° Ceremonia Anual de Naturalización el 4 de Julio Felicitaciones a los 30 nuevos ciudadanos estadounidenses de 14 países diferentes que celebraron su ceremonia de naturalización en el Principal Park el Día de la Independencia justo antes del partido de los Iowa Cubs. El propietario y presidente de los Iowa Cubs, Michael Gartner, abrió la ceremonia con comentarios de bienvenida antes de que

el juez federal Robert Pratt convocará la corte. Treinta candidatos provenientes de 14 países fueron honrados individualmente antes de prestar juramento de fidelidad a los Estados Unidos de América. The Iowa Cubs hosted their 11th Annual Naturalization Ceremony on Independence Day Congratulations to the 30 new American citizens from 14 different countries that celebrated their naturalization ceremony at Principal Park on Independence Day right before the Iowa Cubs game. Iowa Cubs Principal Owner and Chairman Michael Gartner opened the ceremony with welcome remarks before the court was called into session by senior federal judge Robert Pratt.

Thirty candidates hailing from 14 countries were individually honored before taking an oath of allegiance to the United States of America. The Iowa Cubs have been a part of the naturalization of 297 citizens of the United States through the last decade.

Banda Los Traviesos de Joey Camarillo continúa conquistando Iowa y las redes sociales Por Anastassia Zvoryguina A un lado Raymix, un grupo de niños de Council Bluffs, Iowa está tomando el mundo de la música por asalto. La Banda Los Traviesos de Joey Camarillo ha ido ganando popularidad últimamente. probablemente has visto el video de su ensayo de la canción de Los Ángeles Azules y Natalia Lafourcade “Nunca es Suficiente” que recientemente se volvió viral y alcanzó más de 9 millones de visitas en Facebook. de 2017”, explicó José Camarillo, fundador de la Banda. “La finalidad es de enseñar a niños y niñas el arte de la música, para que aprendan un arte que en un futuro les pueda servir de mucha ayuda.” Al principio la mayoría de los niños, miembros de la Banda, no tenían ninguna experiencia musical y no sabían tocar instrumentos. Cada semana los niños se reúnen por lo menos dos veces para practicar y los fines de semana hacen presentaciones en vivo en varios eventos comunitarios. Con el tiempo, el Sr. Camarillo no solo se ha convertido en más que un maestro de música para estos niños, sino también en su mentor.

“Mi objetivo a largo plazo es lograr que sean buenas personas”, aclaró el Sr. Camarillo. “No sólo les enseño música, también hablamos de valores, tradiciones, cultura, raíces y otras cosas que no están relacionadas con la música, pero que pueden ser importantes para su formación cuando crezcan. También les enseño a trabajar en equipo y a respetar a sus mayores”. Gracias al Sr. Camarillo, estos niños están forjando amistades que durarán toda la vida. Están aprendiendo y haciendo algo que aman realizar juntos. En un futuro cercano, el Sr. Camarillo espera que, una vez que amplíen la selección de la música que tocan, Banda Los Traviesos genere suficien-

tes ingresos para cubrir los gastos de la banda. También espera que ganen suficiente dinero para poder compensar a los niños por el duro trabajo que están haciendo. Por el momento la mayoría de las presentaciones son de donaciones, o simplemente piden cooperación a la audiencia. Además, el eterno problema de pagar los gastos, el Sr. Camarillo compartió que a veces es un poco difícil mantener a los padres de estos niños en la misma página. “Lo más difícil ha sido mantener a los padres unidos para que podamos tener la misma visión para los niños”, dijo el Sr. Camarillo. A pesar de algunos problemas, siguen tocando, cantando, aprendiendo y sobre todo creciendo juntos. José Camarillo tiene grandes planes para Banda Los Traviesos. “Espero que con la ayuda de Dios podamos avanzar todos juntos”, dijo el Sr. Camarillo, quien compartió lo que espera sea el futuro de Banda Los Traviesos. “Juntos, para que podamos convertirnos en una banda de renombre mundial.” Banda Los Traviesos se presentó en el DREAM Iowa Latino Youth Summit en marzo pasado y en el Latino Festival en Washington, Iowa a principios de junio. Banda Los Traviesos de Joey Camarillo from Council Bluffs continues to conquer Iowa and social media By Anastassia Zvoryguina Move over, Raymix, a group of kids from Council Bluffs, Iowa is taking the world of music by storm. Banda Los Traviesos de Joey Camarillo has been gaining popularity lately. Chances are you might have seen the video of their rehearsal of the song from Los Angeles Azules and Natalia Lafourcade “Nunca es Suficiente” that recently went viral and has reached over 9 million views on Facebook to date. Banda Los Traviesos de Joey Camarillo consists of local kids from Iowa who are between 6 and 16 years old. It came to existence in 2017. “We launched [this project] in February of 2017,” Jose Camarillo, the founder of the Banda explained. “The goal was to teach kids the art of music, so they can understand this art that can help them in the future.” At the beginning most of the kids, mem-

bers of the Banda, did not have any musical experience and they did not know how to play instruments. Every week the children come together at least twice a week for practice and on the weekends, they come out to do live performances at various community events. Over time, Mr. Camarillo has become more than a music teacher to these kids, he is also their mentor. “My long-term goal is to turn these kids into good people,” Mr. Camarillo clarified. “I do not just teach them music, we also discuss values, traditions, culture, roots and other things that are not quite related to music, but that can be important for their formation when they grow up. I also teach them team work and respect for their elders.” Thanks to Mr. Camarillo these children are forging friendships that would last a lifetime. They are learning and doing something that they love together.

In a near future, Mr. Camarillo hopes that once they expand their selection of the music they perform, Banda Los Traviesos would generate enough income to cover the bands expenses. He also hopes they will make enough money to be able to compensate the children for the hard work they are doing. At the moment most of the presentations they do are from donations, or they simply ask for donations from the audience. Besides, the eternal problem of paying the expenses, Mr. Camarillo shared that sometimes it is a bit difficult to keep the parents of these children on the same page. “The most difficult thing has been keeping the parents united so we could have the same vision for the children,” Mr. Camarillo said. Despite some problems, they keep on playing, singing, learning and above all growing together. Jose Camarillo has big plans for Banda Los Traviesos.

“I hope with God’s help we can get ahead all together,” Mr. Camarillo shared what he hopes will be the future for Banda Los Traviesos. “Together, so we can become a world-renowned band.” Banda Los Traviesos performed at the DREAM Iowa Latino Youth Summit last March and the Latino Festival in Washington, Iowa in early June. Their latest performance was last weekend at Our Lady of the Americas Festival in Des Moines. The kids from Banda Los Traviesos de Joey Camarillo might only be starting their journey in the world of music. There will be obstacles and roadblocks that might discourage them, but united by the love of music and a common goal they will be able to overcome any challenge and reach the top. The Iowa Latino Hall of Fame is held around National Latino & Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 to October 15, which celebrates and honors the contributions made by Latinos and Hispanics in the United States. Five remarkable Iowans, including a Latino youth and a recipient of the Governor D. Ray Award for Equity and Justice, will be inducted into the Third Iowa Latino Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. at the Des Moines Art Center, 4700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. LULAC QC awards over $52,000 in scholarships LULAC Quad Cities held their annual Scholarships Banquet on Sunday July 28 at the Rogalski Center at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. This year over $52,000 was awarded to 62 area high school students, undergraduates and postgraduate students. These are the recipients this year:
