When President Barack Obama signed the executive action to make immigration reforms, he was following the lead of several other presidents. Every U.S. president since at least 1956 has granted temporary immigration relief of some form. President Ronald Reagan and his successor George H.W. Bush extended amnesty to family members who were not covered by the last major overhaul of immigration law in 1986. Those two presidents have acted unilaterally on immigration and both

were Republican. Neither faced the political uproar widely anticipated when President Barack Obama used his executive authority to protect millions of immigrants from deportation. Reagan’s and Bush’s actions were conducted in the wake of a sweeping, bipartisan immigration overhaul and at a time when “amnesty” was not a dirty word. Obama is acting as the country and Washington are bitterly divided over a broken immigration system and what to do about 11 million people living in the U.S. undocumented.

Obama wants to extend protection from deportation to millions of immigrant parents and spouses of U.S. citizens and permanent residents, and expand his 2-yearold program that shields immigrants brought to this country as children. The following are some highlights, in chronological order: 1956 – President Dwight D. Eisenhower used executive authority to “parole” 923 foreign-born orphans into the custody of U.S. military families seeking to adopt them. 1959-1972 – Presidents Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Rich-

The House failed to act. 1990 – President George H. Bush used executive powers to defer deportations of up to 1.5 million spouses and children of people legalized under IRCA. Acting through the Immigration and Naturalization Service, established a “family fairness.” Congress in October passed a broader immigration law that made the protections permanent from deportation and authorized to seek employment. 1992 – Presidents George H. Bush and Bill Clinton granted stays of deportation to about 190,000 Salvadorans whose temporary protected status that allowed them to live and work in the U.S. had expired. 2002 – President George W. Bush expedited naturalization for green card holders who enlisted in the military,

No numbers of how many affected was available. 2012 - President Barack Obama used executive power to defer deportations for up to 1.8 million young immigrants in the U.S. illegally. The policy, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), applies to people younger than 30 who were brought to the U.S. before they turned 16 and meet other criteria such as graduating high school. 2013-2014 - (Congress). Estudiantes de Star City elevan espectativas en la búsqueda de su pasión KATV Channel 7 Star City, AR Los estudiantes en Star City están aprendiendo a programar videojuegos, construir robots, fundamentos de la física, ingeniería e incluso de neurología. “Se me ha impulsado hacer lo que yo puedo, demostrar lo que puedo e ir más allá de lo que un estudiante normal diría que podrían hacer”, dijo la estudiante de décimo grado Erica Murillo. Es parte de un enfoque progresivo de los educadores. Star City High School tiene una matrícula de 495 estudiantes. Según los administradores, 430 de ellos se registraron para tomar los exámenes de colocación avanzada de este año casi el 87 por

ciento del alumnado. “Siempre hemos encontrado eso fijando metas muy altas para los niños, pueden retorcerse y menearse y chillar un poco, pero al final van a estar a la altura”, dijo el superintendente Dr. Richard Montgomery. They are all on the same page and it is done a lot to raise the bar. And our students have reached that bar,” said Walker. Many of the hands on classes the students are taking are held after regular school hours. The kids are there because they want to be.

She is a sophomore at Central Arkansas Christian School. Amalie also plays

soccer for Arkansas United Soccer Club. She received the 7A All-Conference for the 2013-2014 season and was invited to play with the U17 Dominican Republic National team last year. The Women’s World Cup FIFA Canada 2015 could be watch in Telemundo. Telemundo has won the Spanish language U.S.
