Ignite: Grateful

Page 1

One very important way to say thank you for financial abundance is to tithe. Give back to organizations you care about. If you can give away 10 percent, go for it. I do that every week and it’s scary but it’s my way of saying thank you to the universe. I don’t do it to get money back but I seem to always have enough. I also like to do fun things with my money like pay somebody’s dinner bill or leaving a bigger than usual tip. Saying thanks doesn’t ever have to be a chore! “Always be grateful.” is one of my twelve ways to ignite your life daily – ways that, if followed, will stave off addiction, depression, anxiety, and isolation. Being ignited for your life does that!

IGNITE YOUR LIFE “Always Be Grateful” by Sarah Gish

“A

lways be grateful.” is the ninth way to ignite your life in my “IGNITE YOUR LIFE!” art project and community campaign (www.IgniteYourOwnLife.com) and the word associated with this concept is “THANK.” Gratitude is the key to holding on to joy. I don’t know about you – but when good things happen to me, I get nervous that they won’t come my way again. Or that others will get jealous. Or that maybe I’m not worth it. But if I stop and say thank you in some way, those feelings dissipate. I’m not sure why exactly but I think it has to do with hearts connecting. When we do things for each other – and we thank each other – we come together. And it keeps the abundance flowing. Being thankful as a way of life requires practice. My mom taught me to write

thank-you notes and I taught my kids to do the same. It can start with something as simple as that. Sometimes when I do workshops, I have people write a thankyou note to someone important to them. When was the last time you did that? Who can you thank in your life? I start and end my day with a list of who I’m grateful for and what I’m grateful for. It helps me highlight the good. And it keeps the love flowing because the more you focus on something, the more it grows. There are other ways to give thanks: keep a gratitude journal, say “thank you” out loud or in your head many times during the day, pause before each meal for a moment of thanks or prayers, make gratitude art, post “thank you” signs all over your house. Do whatever it takes to work that gratitude muscle!
