Summer is definitely here. One of our window air conditioners finally conked out after a good 12 years and there was no getting around replacing it. It’s just too hot here in Houston to think about “toughing it out”. Although both our boys turned out all right, I’m thinking what could I say about parenting that would be both useful and authentic but then I don’t really have to, there are lots of great articles in this month’s magazine that do a better job than I could with that.

There are many different good parenting styles. I think all any of us can do is to do our best and trust that it will be good enough. Not perfect for perfect is often the enemy of good but good enough.

Three of the keys to parenting are: time, presence and creativity, and well, love. I know, that’s four. Parenting takes time. Time we may not always have but always try make time because too soon, children are grown. And when we are with our children be truly with them, present in the moment. Creative? Not just in finding creative solutions to problems that come up but creative in a fun sort of way, playful.

Here in Houston, there are many places like the Children’s Museum or the Museum of Natural Science that inspire wonder and creativity. There is art and music, not just the kinds you look at and listen to but the kinds you get involved in and do. And love, unconditional, tough, gentle, love. Don’t forget to tell them and show them you love them, not because of what they’ve done because that changes but just because.

Call for Worldwide Protection from Wi-Fi Radiation

I Glyphosate Self-Testing Now Available

T

he Feed the World Project has partnered with the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) to offer public testing for a chemical that is now ubiquitous in conventional food production: glyphosate. At $119, the test can check levels of this chemical in tap water, urine and soon, breast milk.

“For decades now, the public has been exposed, unknowingly and against their will, to glyphosate, despite mounting evidence that this key active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide is harmful to human health and the environment,” says OCA International Director Ronnie Cummins. “Monsanto has been given a free pass to expose the public to this dangerous chemical because individuals, until now, have been unable to go to their doctor’s office or local water-testing company to find out if the chemical has accumulated in their bodies or is present in their drinking water.”

The testing comes on the heels of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) announcement in March that glyphosate is a possible carcinogen and questions the validity of the industry claims from laboratory animal testing that the acceptable daily intake of glyphosate is .3 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day. The WHO report notes, “The socalled safe levels of glyphosate exposure have never been tested directly to determine if indeed they are really safe to consume over the long term. Instead, the ‘safe’ levels are extrapolated from higher doses tested in industry studies.”

n May, 190 scientists from 39 nations appealed to the World Health Organization (WHO) to “exert strong leadership in fostering the development of more protective EMF guidelines…” The letter was developed by a committee that included professors from Columbia University, Trent University, the University of Washington and the University of California, Berkeley. It was then signed by a host of university professors and researchers from around the world.

The directive cited several key studies that have shown that radiation from electromagnetic fields—even low-frequency radiation—is a possible cause of cancer.

The WHO adopted a classification for extremely low-frequency electromagnetic radiation in 2002 and in 2011 classified radiofrequency (RF) radiation within its Group 2B—a “possible human carcinogen.”

The letter points out that while WHO has accepted these classifications, there have been no guidelines or standards created by the agency or in conjunction with other agencies. It recommends a convening of the United Nations Environmental Programme and the funding of an independent committee to explore practical means of regulating the widespread and uncontrolled expansion of wireless technologies throughout our environment. The appeal also calls for the protection specifically of children and pregnant women and a strengthening of regulations placed on technology manufacturers.

Berkeley, California, set a precedent on May 12 by acknowledging the health risk posed by RF radiation and adopting the Right to Know Ordinance, requiring electronics retailers to warn customers about the potential health risks associated with it. It reads, “If you carry or use your phone in a pants or shirt pocket or tucked into a bra when the phone is on and connected to a wireless network, you may exceed the federal guidelines for exposure to RF radiation.” The ordinance requires that the notice be displayed in stores that sell mobile phones.

PISTACHIO NUTS HELP CHOLESTEROL, BLOOD SUGAR AND ARTERY HEALTH

A Happy Couples Sleep Closer Together

R

esearchers from the UK’s University of Hertfordshire conducted a study that measured the relative relationship satisfaction between couples and their sleeping proximity.

More than 1,000 people were surveyed for the study.

The researchers found that 55 percent of couples that typically faced each other but did not touch while sleeping were satisfied with their relationship. Of those that slept backto-back but didn’t touch, 74 percent were satisfied with their relationship and those that slept in the same direction, but didn’t touch, had a 76 percent satisfaction rate. Even better, 94 percent of those that touched while sleeping, regardless of their relative positions, reported being satisfied. The closer the couples slept, the happier their relationships were reported to be.

Sad Music Can Lift Our Mood

A

study from Free University, in Berlin, has determined that listening to sad music may actually lift our mood.

The researchers conducted a s u r ve y o f 7 7 2 p e o p l e , 44 percent of which were musicians, asking each subject about their emotional responses after listening to sad music. While 76 percent felt nostalgic, more than 57 percent of the respondents indicated peacefulness, more than 51 percent felt tenderness, almost 39 percent had feelings of wonder and 37 percent experienced a sense of transcendence.

Fewer than half—45 percent—said they experienced sadness when listening to the morose melodies. The researchers pointed out that people often tend to listen to sad music as a source of consolation, and the music often provides a means for improving moods and emotions.

new study published in the journal Nutrition found that eating pistachio nuts may improve cholesterol parameters, increase glycemic (blood sugar) control, decrease artery stiffness and improve overall blood vessel health.

The study tested 60 adults with poor cholesterol lipid levels.

They were randomly split into two groups—one (control) was given lifestyle modifications (LSM) while the other was given LSM and consumed 40 grams (about 1.5 ounces) of shelled pistachios per day for three months.

Compared to the control group, the pistachio group’s levels of high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol) increased significantly, while their low-density lipoprotein (bad cholesterol) levels went down significantly. Along with lower fasting blood sugar, the pistachio group showed better artery health, established by measuring vasodilation (the flexibility of the arteries to expand and contract).

This, together with pulse-wave velocity testing, can indicate artery stiffness, which has been linked to hypertension and an increased risk of heart disease in general.

Constipated Kids Helped by Tummy Massage

R

esearch from the University of Washington has determined that chronic constipation in children may be relieved with abdominal massage.

The research involved 25 parents and their children with learning needs and physical disabilities. The parents were trained by specialists in abdominal massage. Following the training, the parents massaged the abdomens of their children for 20 minutes per day.

The study found that abdominal massage relieved constipation in 87.5 percent of the children and reduced laxative use. In addition, the therapy resulted in better diets for 41 percent of the children and improved the parent-child relationship in many cases.

Featuring detailed black-and-white drawings of the flora and fauna that surround illustrator Basford’s Scottish home, Secret Garden has sold nearly 1.5 million copies.

Fans include Hollywood celebrities such as Zooey Deschanel, and when National Public Radio asked listeners for feedback, many indicated, “I thought I was alone.” The consensus is that adults are seeking to get in touch with their inner child. Beyond the nostalgic charm of coloring books, it’s also a good way for grownups to unwind and reflect.

“So many people have told me that they used to do secret coloring when their kids were in bed,” says Basford. “Now it is socially acceptable, it’s a category of its own.”

Fracking Halt

Earthquakes Derail Dutch Gas Production Gas production by fracking in the Loppersum, Netherlands, area of the Groningen natural gas field, Europe’s largest, was suspended by a Dutch court after a home was damaged by earthquakes linked to the operation. Nette Kruzenga, co-founder of Groningen Centraal, one of two groups seeking an immediate halt in Groningen gas production, says, “It is clear the judge said that the situation around Loppersum is dangerous.”

The actions of Dutch officials are different than in the U.S., where many people acknowledge the same problem while others deny its existence. States that tend to cite the danger are those that have experienced damaging earthquakes, including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Ohio and Virginia. Deniers include big-fracking states such as California, Colorado and Texas.

In states that have reduced new injections and scaled back current operations, earthquakes have abated.

Diaper Discovery Mushrooms Grow on Disposables

Disposable diapers are mostly indestructible, but a group of researchers led by Rosa María Espinosa Valdemar, at Mexico’s Autonomous Metropolitan University, Azcapotzalco, has found a way to degrade the soiled garments by growing mushrooms on them.

Disposable diapers can last for hundreds of years in landfills because they contain not only the plant-based material cellulose that mushrooms consume, but also non-biodegradable materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene and the superabsorbent gel sodium polyacrylate.

The scientists grew the oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus, on a substance made from used diapers and were able to reduce the diaper’s weight and volume by up to 80 percent. For the experiment, the researchers only used diapers containing liquid waste.

They sterilized and ground up the garments; mixed them with lignin from the remains of pressed grapes, coffee or pineapple tops; covered the mixture with commercially available fungus spores; and kept it in a plastic bag for three weeks.

Th e r e s u l t i n g m u s h r o o m s had similar amounts of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals as in commercial yeast. They’re not intended for human consumption, but could be used as a supplement in cattle feed.

Valuable Horseshoe Species Going Extinct The horseshoe crab, which is not really a crab, but belongs to the taxonomical class Merostomata among arthropods, is about to join the long list of endangered s p e c i e s . ENLIGHTENED PARENTING Tips for Raising Confident and Loving Kids

ueled by unconditional love, parenting with presence embraces all potential connections between parents and their children.

Establishing Values

Shelly Lefkoe, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Guide to Effective Parenting, believes that children learn what we model as important values. She tells her daughters they should treat her with dignity and respect both because she’s their mother and, “That’s how you treat people and that’s how I treat them.” Honesty is also a high priority in their household.

Minneapolis college student Casey Martin often joins his father, Kirk, in presenting Calm Parenting workshops for parents, teachers and students around the country. In growing up, he’s seen firsthand, “If you have a connection with your kids, you can have a lot more influence on them.”

Noting that sometimes children feel like their parents love them, but don’t necessarily like them, Martin emphasizes finding ways to identify with their interests. “I love cars, and my dad used to invite me on test drives when I 14

was a kid. Both of my parents took time to connect with me, which had a huge impact on our relationship.”

Christine Carter, Ph.D., a sociologist with the University of California Greater Good Science Center, recognizes the importance of talking explicitly about values. When we see kids doing something we value, ask them how it made them feel, she advises. “Teens don’t necessarily know that their parents value character over grades,” Carter says, “particularly if parents tend to monitor grades more than aspects of a child’s character. What do you talk about more—their achievements or their character? If it’s the former, consider that you unintentionally might be sending the wrong message.”

Hummingbird Parenting

Overprotection of children by what’s termed helicopter parenting, can cause a disabling sense of entitlement where kids begin to believe, possibly unconsciously, that they are entitled to a difficultyfree life, Carter observes. “There’s an epidemic of cheating because students don’t want to try hard, and they expect to be rescued,” she says.

“Although it’s terrifying to let our kids fail, when we don’t let them experience difficulty, they see mistakes as being so awful they must be avoided at any cost. To gain mastery in any arena, we must challenge ourselves, even if that means making mistakes.”

“We lose sight that we’re not raising children, we’re raising adults,” says Malibu, California, marriage, family and child therapist Susan Stiffelman, author of Parenting with Presence: Practices for Raising Conscious, Confident, Caring Kids. “Empower them to cope with ups and downs. Help them know and trust themselves by not legislating their opinions and by allowing them to experiment.”

Children often struggle with transitions, especially when things don’t go as planned. Martin recommends, “When kids throw tantrums or argue to get out of a challenging situation that’s causing them anxiety, help them work through it. Tell them that you know they’re feeling anxious, that you’ve felt that way before, too, and then help by giving them something specific to do or focus on.”

Independent outdoor play has been proven to help kids learn to exert self-control. America’s children aren’t allowed to roam freely outside to experience nature as previous generations did. In Last Child in the Woods, author Richard Louv cautions against being limited by modern factors such as restrictive subdivision covenants and media-induced fear. “There are risks outdoors, but there are huge psychological, physical and spiritual risks in raising future generations under protective house arrest,” he says.

Louv prefers what’s called a hummingbird approach: “Hummingbird parents don’t hover over their kids with nature flash cards; they stand back and make space for exploration and problem

Armin Brott, host of San Francisco’s Positive Parenting radio program, reminds parents to increase opportunities for independence as youngsters grow.

“Test a child’s ability to handle more freedom by providing the opportunity to prove that they can. If they succeed, it’s a confidence builder. If not, it allows them to see for themselves that they’re not ready yet.”

Disciplined Communication

The first eight years of a child’s life are the most formative, effecting personal beliefs that will shape the adult that they’ll become, including impediments to fruitful self-expression. A healthy conversational relationship can foster connection and security while respectfully teaching children right from wrong.

Lefkoe suggests managing parental expectations while considering what serves the child best in the moment.

When a child tries to tell Mom something when she’s distracted, the child may conclude that what they say is unimportant. Instead, the mother can

acknowledge the importance of what the child has to say and how she looks forward to listening once she’s freed up before eventually giving the child her full attention.

Parents can serve as a safe haven for kids. Stiffelman says, “Allow them to speak the truth without being corrected or shamed. If they tell you they’d like to do something you don’t approve of, resist the urge to react with immediate advice and talk to them about their decisionmaking process. Be present enough for them to let them hear themselves think out loud.”

“Children need affection, attention, acknowledgment and unconditional love, not discipline. When you punish kids, they feel absolved: ‘I did something bad, I got punished, now we’re even,’” says Lefkoe. When they get caught doing something they shouldn’t be doing, she recommends (with children as young as 5) asking them, “What are the consequences of your actions? Do you want to live with them? Your goal with this conversation should be that your child walks away feeling like they made a mistake, but it was a great learning opportunity.”

As kids mature and are faced with potentially dangerous scenarios, “You don’t want them worrying about what their friends will think; you want them thinking about the consequences,” says Lefkoe.

Navigating the Teen Years

The intense journey of adolescence is about discovering oneself and how to reach full potential. Carter says, “I had to constantly remind myself that this is their

journey, not mine, and that it’s going to sometimes be dark and difficult.”

“The more power you give kids, the less they feel the need to test the universe,” says Lefkoe, who reminds parents that while it’s relatively easy to control young children, rebellious teenagers are harder to handle when they feel they have something to prove to an overbearing parent. Offering calculated risk-taking opportunities that don’t involve drugs and alcohol is beneficial in the teen years. “You want them to know how to handle freedom and be responsible once they are on their own,” she says.

“When I got my driver’s license, I always came home before curfew,” says Martin. “I learned that if I could control myself, my parents didn’t feel the need to control me, which gave me a ton of power in my life.”

Brott observes that as the parenting role changes, “We can offer to help, but it’s equally important to learn to let go and admire the young adults they’re becoming.”

Teens desperately want to not feel like a kid, adds Stiffelman. “They may tell you to back off, but stay present and engaged—like wallpaper. The more you ask their opinion or invite them to teach you something, the more they’ll feel your support.”

“It shouldn’t be about having ‘the talk’; it’s about maintaining an ongoing conversation,” says Greenspan. “Body odor is a good starting point in talking about body issues because it’s not intimidating and can be comfortably addressed by either parent.” Avoid rushing into subjects they’re not ready for by focusing on answering the questions that are posed, while offering a glimpse into the near future.

Deardorff says, “Pubertal changes happen over time, so be patient. Parents have a lot of anxiety and anticipation about puberty. When you start to see the first signs, you don’t have to communicate everything all at once.”

Consider throwing a puberty party or a health workshop for a son or daughter and their friends. Invite a parent that is comfortable with the subject matter—a nurse, physician or teacher—to get the conversation started. “Fight the urge to emotionally or physically withdraw,” counsels Deardorff. “Sharing activities is a form of communication, too.”

Kids as Teachers

“By paying attention, we can learn a lot of skills from our kids,” says Brott.

Generally, youngsters have a greater

tolerance for other people’s mistakes and opinions than adults, and tend to be more laid back. They regularly teach spiritual lessons about giving and receiving love and happiness in ways we never imagined.

Through all the inevitable challenges, Stiffelman notes, “When parenting with presence, we orient ourselves with whatever good, bad or difficult moment is unfolding and bring more of our self— our heart, consciousness, understanding and compassion—to hold steady as the seas get rocky. Children offer us opportunities to confront the dark and dusty corners of our minds and hearts, creating conditions to call forth the kind of learning that can liberate us from old paradigms.”

It all allows us to lead more expansive and fulfilling lives as we open ourselves to more of the love, learning and joy that the adventure of parenting can bring. When we embrace the healing and transformation that is being offered through parenting with presence, the rewards can be limitless.

had the privilege of speaking by phone with His Holiness Swami Vidyadhishananda this p a s t w e e k a n d wa s impressed that he is not only a man of great spiritual and intellectual knowledge, and experience but is also a very down to earth and a practical individual.

What he has to teach us, he learned through yogic mindful living in the Himalayan Mountains and participating in the unbroken oral traditions there.

While I hope in this interview to convey some of his thoughts about his upcoming visit to Houston, I find that I am unable to fully convey the impact of his voice.

I hope that many of you will be able to attend the public lectures and workshops that he will be holding and hear his wonderful, gentle voice.

Mike: “Swami Vidyadhishananda, what

is your purpose in coming to Houston?”

Swami Vidyadhishananda, “I have

been coming to Houston for some time, but in the past two years I could not visit. I want to reach out to beginners as well as more advanced students. Much yoga in the West is only at a certain level. One can practice higher yoga but that is not easily available. There is breathwork combined with postural movement which is a step into the higher yoga. However only in the Himalayas do you have the monastic traditions where Vedic philosophy, yoga and meditation are taught through a teacher-disciple relationship in a pristine environment. It is a living tradition that is mostly oral and experiential where we actually practice the techniques for human excellence.

body. I say conceive and not visualize because visualization might deviate into imagining something that is not a subtle reality. The concept is that light within the body can be meditated upon if guided properly, but without involving imagination. Emptiness of the mind assists in overcoming the internal chatter, but the goal is to conceive light, especially in the heart. I will not just lecture on it, we will actually practice it through a guided meditation.

Mike: “As a former school teacher, I’m

The introduction begins with Ujjayi, throated breathwork and Udgitha, a breathing technique for increasing awareness of one’s internal sound. I will also teach techniques for cleansing the nadi (energy channels) and balancing agni (digestive fire).

Participants will learn a core set of Himalayan pranayama techniques which can be practiced daily to increase physical energy, bring about mindfulness and restore wellness.”

What is the “Point” of Acupuncture?

Medical Marvel or Mystical Myth

cupuncture has been around for thousands of years; however, its debut into the United States did not occur until the early 1970s when President Nixon made a trip to China. He was accompanied by a journalist named James Reston, who had to undergo an emergency appendectomy while they were visiting the country. His appendix was removed using conventional methods, but his post-operative pain was managed with acupuncture. He was so amazed at its effectiveness that he wrote an article about it in the New York Times, thus generating significant interest in our country.

Even though many Americans are interested in acupuncture, the fact that is has only been offered in the United States for approximately 45 years causes this modality to be shrouded in myths and misnomers. I would like to dispel some of these at this time. ▄ Acupuncture is not real medicine – Acupuncture is real medicine. As mentioned before, it has been utilized by many eastern countries for thousands of years. It originated in China and is a major part of their health care system. ▄ Acupuncture has not been scientifically proven to work – Acupuncture has been proven to work. It is difficult to prove under the western model of a double blind study, but another scientific method is observation. Acupuncture has been proven and documented to work for thousands of years through observation. ▄ Acupuncture only works for pain – Acupuncture works great for pain, but it is also effective for many other types of internal disorders. The World Health Organization has recognized that acupuncture is an appropriate treatment for over 200 clinical conditions. ▄ Acupuncture only works as a placebo – Acupuncture may indeed have some sort of placebo effect; many pharmaceutical drugs have this effect as well. The fact that acupuncture works on animals proves that its effectiveness goes far beyond the placebo effect. ▄ Acupuncture is painful – Acupuncture is not painful. Let’s face it, nobody likes needles. The needles used in acupuncture are .25mm in diameter compared to a medical syringe which is 28.5mm in diameter. You will feel a slight sensation, such as heaviness or achiness, but nothing like an injection. ▄ Acupuncture is dangerous and unhygienic – Acupuncture is perfectly safe if you go to a properly trained practitioner.

Also, a properly trained practitioner is required to be certified in “Clean Needle Technique.” and only uses single-use disposable needles. ▄ All acupuncturist are created equal – Not so. A licensed acupuncturist in the state of Texas is required to have a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This is a fouryear, year-round program, which includes clinical observation

and an internship. This is over 3,700 hours of training. They are also required to pass a four-part board exam that is administered by the NCCAOM. Acupuncturists are licensed by the Texas Medical Board. ▄ Acupuncture and dry needling are different – Dry needling is a type of acupuncture. The term was coined by some professions to bypass training and licensing. Dry needling simply means that the needle does not contain a substance. Many chiropractors and physical therapist practice dry needling, but they are not licensed acupuncturist! ▄ Acupuncturists have to be of Asian descent – Learning to be a good acupuncturist is not in your DNA. With proper education and experience, anyone can become a good acupuncturist. ▄ Acupuncture has side effects and will conflict with conventional medical treatments – The only negative side effect of acupuncture may be slight bruising. This is where Awake comes in. You don’t have to be swept away by all of that anymore.

Awa k e m i n d i s l i m i t l e s s i n comparison. Since Awake is only in the present moment, it is unbound. It is like an “Ah-ha” moment that is always waiting for you; every moment can be an Ah-ha moment. Awake is always available and can be connected to in any situation. Meditation practice is not something that is only done while sitting still on a cushion or chair, although that is an important foundation level to help us get started. Zen meditation has a wide spectrum of application, from walking meditation, to eating meditation, to working meditation, to living with Awake in everyday life.

This practice has no prerequisites.

It is available to people of all ages, cultures, religions, and backgrounds.

Often people hesitate to try meditation because they mistakenly assume that they cannot do it. Sometimes they carry a picture in their mind that meditation is like this or that, or a meditating person has to be a certain way. You may be surprised to find out that with a little guidance and support you can bring your mind and body together, and experience the many life-changing benefits that meditation offers.

Another common misconception people have is that knowledge is enough to guide them through life. Although

knowledge is important to help us understand things, understanding is different than realization. Only through application of practice can we actually Wake Up, and truly realize about our true self. Like someone who really wants to swim, they can watch others, study about the ocean, and understand the strokes, but then in order to really swim they need to jump in the water and apply for themselves!

The False mind is very cunning and sneaky, and we often don’t even notice it is there. It is at these times that we are caught up in all of False mind’s stories and illusion, unknowingly blind to the fact that we are lost in the system of False mind. So someone may ask, “If this voice is your own voice, shouldn’t you trust it?” Well, if we begin to look into it, we start to see that this voice is very fickle.

It is always changing and going back and forth based on conditions, and often has very short-sighted logic and reasoning. It is easily distracted and drawn into situations. In short, the False mind can get us into a lot of trouble and in most of our cases, already has. It builds things as well; it builds fortresses of thought and reason around our beliefs, thinking that doing so will make us happy. And it will defend those fortresses fiercely, even when those are the very things making us suffer. It only knows a world of duality; good/bad, right/wrong, winning/losing, etc. It is not flexible enough to see things or situations as they truly are. The False mind can only see things based on our stored perceptions, judgments, beliefs, etc.

The False mind also includes habit and addiction. Even though we may know something is not good for us to do, we continue on and on doing it, sometimes even unconsciously. Why do we do this when we clearly know better? This is an example of the power of the False mind and also shows how important it is to practice in order to break out of that cycle. The knowledge that we should not continue a habit is not usually enough to actually break that habit. Only Awake is stable enough to break long held habits and addictions, seeing clearly their root causes and knowing exactly what to do in the present moment.

But in order to do this, we need

to return to our Awake, and that means practice and application. This False mind system is something that has been running for a very long time and often habits can be hard to release.

But because Awake mind is already waiting within us, it is very possible!

Awake mind can transform stress, struggles, health and conflicts that you thought were unchangeable facts of life.

We can realize who we are and who we are not. We can Wake Up to live truly happy, fresh, open, and alive, with clarity and purpose.

So now, are you ready to discover the difference between these two minds for yourself? And which is your real, original one and which is not? Isn’t it time to break free from the nonstop stressful cycle of False mind and find out how life-changing Awake can be?

Mostly, it comes from no state-wide incentive to adopt solar. Much of the policies and investments have gone into wind energy. For instance, Texas lacks “net-metering,” a policy that has helped solar flourish elsewhere. Net-metering allows residential solar customers to earn full retail credit for excess electricity that they sell back to the grid. It’s a policy that’s on the books in 43 states, but doesn’t exist at the state level in Texas.

exas is an energy superpower.

Not only does the Lone Star State produces more natural gas than any other state, but it also leads the nation in renewable energy. Texas is one of 29 states with a renewableenergy standard—a goal for getting a certain amount of its power from sources like wind, solar, and other fossilfuel alternatives. When the standard was signed into law in 1999 it called for 2,000 megawatts of additional renewable power generation to be brought online within a decade.

Already, it is the number one state for wind energy. It also has the greatest potential for solar energy according to an Energy Department report. Texas, the report says, is home to a full 20 percent of total U.S. potential for concentrated solar power. Currently, only a tiny percentage of its solar potential, has been exploited. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), Texas has only about 200 megawatts worth of solar-power panels installed. The state is only ranked 8th for actual solar energy generation, behind Delaware and New

Although the state of Texas has done very little to incentivize solar, Texas cities have shown tremendous leadership. By setting bold goals for solar, San Antonio now ranks sixth in the nation for total installed solar. Austin doesn’t lag far behind.

San Antonio has 90 megawatts of utility-scale solar online with another 15 megawatts from direct generation, and utility CPS Energy estimates there’s another 385 megawatts coming online over the next two to three years. That’s been enough to rank the River City sixth nationwide in solar capacity, according to an April report from Environment Texas, and has attracted solar companies to set up shop in the city.

Austin has 16 megawatts online but is undertaking a more active approach in solar. Last year [2014], Austin Energy finalized a contract to purchase 150-megawatts of solar energy for less than the average cost of natural gas.

After witnessing the recent success of Austin’s solar investments, the Austin City Council voted 6 to 1 on December 11, 2014 to boost the city’s solar goals, from 200 to 950 megawatts. This level of commitment to solar power means that by 2025, if Austin were a state it would be second only to California for total solar capacity.

Austin also undertook an innovative approach to provide financial incentives for residential solar adopters. Instead of net metering, Austin introduced a “value of solar” tariff. Austin Energy established a price for solar even higher than that assigned by a net metering rate, helping to increase adoption of solar panels on Austin Energy’s grid.

As another incentive for residential homeowners, Austin implemented one of the largest customer-driven smart grid

Webberville Solar Farm Near Austin experiments in the world. In partnership with EDF, Pecan Street Inc. has provided solar rebates to hundreds of Austin-area homeowners. The center of this project, Austin’s Mueller neighborhood, now has solar panels installed on 200 of its 250 homes. In exchange for the incentives, Pecan Street is collecting detailed electricity data from each of the homes in its study, proving analysis of the energy potential of rooftop solar in Austin and other communities.

Both of these cities have municipal utilities that had more freedom to set independent renewable goals and offer rebates than the deregulated markets elsewhere in the state, notably Houston and Dallas. Lanny Sinkin, executive director of the nonprofit Solar San Antonio, said the ability of a municipal utility to “look at values beyond the bottom line” has made citylevel initiatives more successful.

A Brighter Future Ahead

The 4-1-1 on Hypnosis

re you curious about hypnosis and perhaps would like to try to use hypnosis for an issue that is bothering you or to change a bad habit that is keeping you from being healthy and happy? Are you afraid to try hypnosis because it all sounds so “woo woo”?

Many people are afraid to try hypnosis because there are many myths about hypnosis that are perpetuated by the media, literature and especially movies, simply because it is not very interesting, or compelling, to see a person relaxed and appearing to be asleep while enjoying the process of hypnosis.

In reality, hypnosis is a very natural process that many people experience several times a day without realizing they are actually in a trance state.

When you are daydreaming reading, playing a video game, viewing a movie, or watching T-V you are actually in a light trance. This is why the volume on some commercials is increased… they know you are in a trance and want to get your attention. Many people have had the experience of driving along a familiar route and travel from point A to point B without being aware of it. This is because the subconscious mind is the repository of all habits, memories,

dreams, values, imprints etc. Often during the day a person can be operating on “autopilot” because the subconscious mind knows what needs to be done and assumes control. During hypnosis, the subconscious mind is in a heightened state of suggestibility and can be asked to make changes that will make the person’s life healthier and happier.

Some people fear hypnosis because they think they will lose control and be made to do things against their will.

However, a person cannot be hypnotized against their will and cannot be made to do things that run counter to their value system. In such cases, the person will just “wake up” and refuse to cooperate.

Another myth that circulates about hypnosis is that the person can get “stuck” in hypnosis and not “wake up”.

Since hypnosis is not sleep, but a focused state of awareness, if the hypnotist stops speaking, the person will just naturally come out of hypnosis, usually feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Hypnosis can be defined as a mental state of focused awareness during which the subconscious mind is more open and receptive to suggestions. Hypnosis is induced by a procedure known as hypnotic induction, which is a series of instructions and suggestions made to the subconscious mind to address the issue(s) the person wants to change or enhance.

During hypnosis, the hypnotist s p e a k s d i r e c t l y t o t h e p e r s o n ’s subconscious mind, while the conscious mind is otherwise occupied. The person under hypnosis can hear everything that is said, and often remembers everything that went on during the session.

Sometimes the person under hypnosis thinks he has not been “under” because he heard everything that was said. Just because the conscious mind hears and remembers the hypnosis session does not mean the person was not in trance.

Even if the person does not believe they were hypnotized, the subconscious mind has heard and understood all that was said. If it accepts the suggestions that were made, the person may soon begin to notice changes in behaviors ( e.g portion control for weight loss) and/ or attitudes .The subconscious mind serves as a person’s “protector” and has the job of protecting the person’s emotional, mental and physical wellbeing throughout life. Often, however, behaviors and perceptions that were originally developed to protect the person are no longer beneficial and in fact, may now be detrimental. Usually, if the subconscious mind is made aware of these problems, it can be convinced to give up the behavior or perception that is not for the person’s “highest good” and positive or beneficial suggestions put in place. For example, a person who is overweight may be unable to reduce their weight for reasons the subconscious mind thinks are protective, and it can usually be convinced to release these reasons to help in weight reduction.

W h e n hy p n o t i s m i s u s e d for therapeutic reasons, it is called hypnotherapy and has been shown to be effective in a number of areas, such as changing bad habits, stress reduction, overcoming addictions, and relieving fears and anxieties. Hypnosis is very effective to help athletes overcome blocks or barriers to success and is especially useful in helping children with school issues or the many problems they may encounter that keep them from being healthy and happy. Hypnosis is an excellent alternative therapy to help people with anxiety about medical procedures or surgery and is especially useful for pain management.

Hypnosis has also been shown to be very

effective in helping couples reduce the anxiety and stress surrounding fertility issues thereby, increasing the likelihood of successful procedures or natural conception.

If you are curious and interested in experiencing hypnosis, be sure to research the available hypnotists/ hypnotherapists in your area and make sure the person is qualified, certified

by a reputable school or program and is experienced and knowledgeable. If you find yourself in a situation where you do not feel comfortable with the hypnotist you have selected, and do not feel the person can help you, it is entirely permissible for you to excuse yourself and find someone you feel more comfortable working with. Swimming in Nature Splashing Safely in Lakes and Oceans

ostonian avid open-water swimmer Kate Radville is delighted that water constitutes 70 percent of the Earth’s surface. “The controlled environment of a swimming pool is convenient,” she says, “but splashing around outside in the beautiful summer sunshine is undeniably liberating.”

Enthusiasts are both attracted by the rugged beauty of wild water and humbled by its power, but without proper skill or knowledge, swimming in natural settings can be risky.

“Millions of dollars are annually spent on advertising, tourism and beach restoration projects to bring people to water,” says Dave Benjamin, executive director of the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project, “yet, the American Red Cross finds that 54 percent of Americans lack basic water emergency lifesaving skills.” Maximize enjoyment and safety in the open water by heeding basic guidelines.

Be Weather Wise. Check the forecast before heading out and be conscious of any sudden climate changes. Leave the water or the area in the event of thunder or lightning. Tall buildings or mountains may block the view of the sky, and storms can pop up quickly, so Benjamin recommends using a battery-powered portable radio or smartphone app for weather updates. Wind and atmospheric pressure shifts can stir up waves for hours, so hesitate before returning to the water after a storm.

Glean Information. “I can’t think of a time I’ve jumped into water I knew nothing about,” says Radville. “Some research prior to swimming is definitely advisable.”

Renowned coach Steven Munatones, founder of the World Open Water Swimming Association, suggests walking along the beach to look for caution signs, surf conditions boards,

flags, buoys, rope lines and available rescue equipment, plus emergency callboxes that pinpoint one’s location if cell phone service is weak. Even seemingly pristine waters can be contaminated by harmful bacteria, algal blooms or runoff pollutants after rain. “Chat with local beach-goers, swimmers, boaters or fishermen about current swimming conditions in designated areas,” counsels Munatones, and check social media sites like Facebook and area online swimming forums.

Steer Clear. Be mindful of hidden underwater hazards, ranging from sharp objects to submerged construction, which can create turbulent water and strong undercurrents. Swim in lifeguard-protected areas away from windsurfers, jet skiers and boaters that may not hear or see swimmers, adds Munatones.

Respect Marine Life. Munatones advises giving marine life, however beautiful, a wide berth. “I’ve swum around the world with all sorts of intriguing sea life,” he says, “and these are wild animals, not the friendly ones you see in marine parks.” Stop swimming and watch the animal until it’s moved on.

Be Water Wise. Water temperature, depth and movement, which fluctuate with rain, tides and wind, can also make conditions unpredictable, so research a destination beforehand.

Pockets of cold water within an otherwise tepid mountain lake could induce a gasp response or hyperventilation, says Munatones, and prolonged immersion increases risk of muscle impairment and hypothermia.

Likewise, an unexpected drop in the water floor may provoke panic. “Physically, someone capable of swimming in three feet of water can also swim in 300 feet,” says Munatones.

“But mentally, deep water can feel spooky.”

Rip currents are powerful streams that flow along the surface away from the shoreline. They may be easily spotted from the beach, but often go unnoticed by swimmers. “A potentially fatal mistake is allowing a ‘fight-or-flight’ response to kick in and trying to swim against the current, because rips are treadmills that will exhaust your energy,” cautions Benjamin. Instead, flip, float and follow the safest path out of the water, a technique that conserves energy and alleviates stress and panic, he says.

Watch for Waves. Swim facing oncoming waves and dive under the powerful white foam, coaches Munatones. “Feel the swell wash over you before coming up to the surface.” If knocked off balance by a wave, relax, hold your breath and wait for the tumbling to cease. Swim toward the light if disoriented under the water, and make sure your head is above any froth before inhaling.

“Your lungs are your personal flotation device that keep the body buoyant,” says Benjamin. “Lay back and focus on your breathing.”

While Coast Guard-approved flotation devices should be worn by children at all times, they are not substitutes for supervision, says Rob Rogerson, a lifeguard and ocean rescue training officer in Palm Beach County, Florida. “Parents must watch swimming and non-swimming children vigilantly.”

“The power of the open water is immense,” says Munatones. “Be respectful, always.”

To Think Well is to Live Well

I

t was written, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Hmm, wonder which great soul(s) declared that? If this statement is true, then perhaps, man was created in the image and likeness of the Divine? If it is true, then perhaps man was also given sole responsibility for and jurisdiction over the whole of creation?

If it is true, then the conditions of our bodies, life, and world are in our (man’s) hands—scary thought.

In The WHAI’s previous articles, I affirmed that, in many ways, we are responsible for the state of our health, earth, and life conditions. However, for some, this idea is met with blind eyes, deaf ears—or worse—contempt.

In the above listed quote, please ponder the phrase, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness...” Consider what that really means. Consider also what it means for man to, “let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air,” etc. These statements are very specific and profound. To truly comprehend their meaning requires us to review the conditions of our life, as well as how and why things happen in our life.

The main tenet of The WHAI™ is that the conditions of our health and life directly reflect our state of mind. In other words, pathology of mind is reflected as pathology of body; health of mind is reflected as health of body and vice versa.

Therefore, if fish of the sea, birds of the air, livestock, and all other creatures are currently threatened with extinction and

loss of habitat, what does that say about man’s mindset? If earth is in a dire state of ecological imbalance, what does that say about man’s mindset? If our world and health are in states of distress and disharmony, what does that say about man’s mindset? Contemplate these questions carefully, for if we honestly answer them, we will understand where healing must begin. We will know, without question, where the source of our diseased bodies, societies, and earth reside. The importance of accurately answering these questions is that if we know the source of these problems, we know what needs to be healed. In this case, knowledge and a healthy mindset is power.

After the May article, “Getting Out of Mind Hell: Healing Disease,” was published, some readers stated, “Great article, but now tell us how to heal.” This comment was interesting to me because I thought I had. So, in this article, I will attempt to clarify the steps to healing. First, recognize areas of disease in your life. Second, trace these back to the source—the mind and its diseased thought patterns. Third, interrupt diseased mind patterns by replacing them with healing thought patterns. For example, find the blessing in every circumstance and struggle.

Hold thoughts of reverence and gratitude for yourself and all living beings. Endeavor to nurture yourself, the earth, and its inhabitants. Finally, strive to live in harmony with all of life.

Living this way means you think well. To think well is to live well. Another way to say this is, “To establish a heaven on earth, create a heaven in mind.” Or, “As you think, so shall it be.” Embedded in these statements are the answer and the way to achieving wellness and harmony in our life.

These sayings, although simplistic, hold deep meaning.

To live well is our birthright, and to do so is very practical.

Our mind, inherently, possesses the power and ability to shape our health, life, and world. Despite this, we continually seek complicated, step-by-step instructions from sources outside ourselves because we lack faith and belief in who we really are. We are the master of our existence. With our invisible, formless, omnipresent, and eternal Divine mind, we shape existence—one thought and action at a time. But, unfortunately, we doubt this. We needlessly rely on and give power to people, entities, or things outside of us, instead of being responsible stewards over our health, earth, and existence.

Herein lies our only true problem.

As one of the world’s greatest teachers once said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” So what is your mountain? If you know what needs to be moved out of your life, apply the truth that, with your mind and with faith in who you really are, all things are possible.

Thus, to heal—start within. To heal your body, life conditions, and earth—simply put—heal the hindering patterns in your mind.

Think Before You Ink How to Make Body Art Safe and Reversible

ew things in life are more permanent than a tattoo. Yet those most likely to change their life course—in careers, relationships or fashion styles—are also most inclined to get inked. Nearly 40 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 have at least one tattoo, according to a Pew Research Center poll.

“If you change your hairstyle or look often, you probably aren’t a good candidate for a tattoo, because of the limited flexibility to change that decision,” says Dr. Gregory Hall, a primary care physician in Cleveland, Ohio. Hall created the website ShouldITattoo.com to help inform others after seeing so many patients that regretted the tattoos of their youth.

Hall has also authored Teens, Tattoos, & Piercings to try to reach school-aged kids before they even consider body art.

The Millennial generation, which is getting inked in record numbers, is also the leading demographic for ink removal. More than half the tattoos removed by medical professionals in 2013 were for people between 19 and 34 years old. Removal often costs many times more than being tattooed, sometimes requiring a dozen or more sessions over several months.

Beyond the likelihood of changing one’s mind about a tattoo, Hall cites employment, discrimination and health concerns in urging teens to decline getting inked or pierced. Employers have the legal right to reject a job candidate because of a tattoo—a challenging fact of life for young people to reconcile when they’re still undecided on a career path. Different

branches of the military have their own restrictions on body art, which can include the tattoo’s size, placement and subject, while some companies ban tattoos and piercings altogether.

The commitment of a tattoo never interested Lauren Waaland-Kreutzer, 25, of Richmond, Virginia. “I don’t know how I’m going to age and who I’ll be in five years,” she says. Two days after turning 18, however, she got her nose pierced, a decision she hasn’t regretted, even though it’s affected her employment. “While I was working my way through college, I gave up slightly better paying jobs in order to keep my piercing,” she says.

Her current employer, a local nonprofit in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is piercing-friendly, but she has friends that have to cover their tattoos and piercings at work; a former classmate-turnedlawyer even had to remove a small star tattoo from her wrist.

While piercings are more reversible than tattoos, they are also more prone to certain health risks. Tongue and cheek piercings can accelerate tooth decay, according to Hall, and the risk of infection can be high, especially if it impacts cartilage. “Some skin rejects piercings, and you can end up with permanent scars,” he adds.

Healthier Alternatives

The good news is there are more natural, less permanent alternatives for young adults to adorn and express themselves, including custom-made temporary tattoos, plus magnetic and clip-on jewelry that are indistinguishable from a permanent piercing. Temporary tattoos work to try out the look before possibly committing.

Henna tattoos, an import from India, are another popular alternative, although Hall has seen many patients develop allergic reactions to this plant-based ink, so it’s always best to test on a small spot first.

Permanent organic inks fade more over time, a downside for someone that keeps a tattoo for life, but “come off beautifully” in a removal process compared to the standard heavy metal inks, reports Hall. Also, “We just don’t know yet what impact the heavy metals may have on people’s immune systems down the road,” he says. “Organic inks are much safer.”

Helpful Facts

State laws vary regarding age criteria, some allowing tattoos at any age with parental consent. Hall’s tattoo website has a downloadable contract to encourage kids to talk with their parents before making a decision, regardless of the need for consent.

Name tattoos, even those of loved ones, are among the tattoos most likely to be removed later in life. Hall saw this with a young man that had the names of the grandparents that raised him tattooed on his hands. He said, “I still love them, but I’m tired of looking at them and I have got to get them off me.”

A Harris Interactive poll revealed that a third of company managers would think twice about promoting someone with tattoos or piercings—a more critical factor than how tidy their workspace is kept or the appropriateness of their attire.

The Toxic Truth About Tattoos

he spike in popularity of tattooing that began a couple of decades ago in America and Europe continues to spread worldwide. Those considering getting one will do well to carefully review the options and the health dangers related to traditional tattoos.

Tattoo inks contain heavy metals, and red inks often contain mercury.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved any tattoo pigments for injection into the skin.

Tattoo parlors are regulated by states and municipalities, but the FDA doesn’t require manufacturers to release ink ingredients. The lack of regulation is unsettling, as some 45 million Americans have been inked.

Many tattoo ink pigments are industrial-grade colors suitable for printer ink or automobile paint, and the FDA warns that it may possibly cause infections, allergic reactions, keloids (fibrous scar tissue), granulomas (response to inflammation, infection or a foreign substance) and potential complications connected with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Interview with Jaime Garcia of Sol Reflexology, Massage and Bodyworks

by Mike Hart This is part one of a two part interview I had with Jaime Garcia, owner of Sol Reflexology, Massage and Bodyworks. I found his answer to my first question, “Tell us about your background and how you got into massage and reflexology,” such an interesting story that I had to share it with you.

D

epends how far back you want to go. Past lives? Or just in this life? Let’s keep it simple and stay with this life. We can go back to my first automotive collision I had when I was around 21.

As an electronic engineering technology major, I was working on my internship in Austin, Texas for Cellular One. One day on my way home from work, there was small collision where I got rear ended. I thought it was small since I was able to walk away from it but the next morning, I could barely move and ended up visiting many specialists.

A few years later, a chiropractor in Plano, Texas, broke some news to me that was hard to take, “Jaime, you have the back of a 40 year old. The life you’ve been leading has gotten you to this point and the collision only exasperated it.” At this point in my life, I was approaching 300 pounds but I didn’t think much about the weight or the collision until I started to have problems I couldn’t ignore any longer. Not only problems with lack of energy throughout the day but staying awake after a “normal” lunch meal at work.

Later when I was on a project in New York, I had an opportunity to see a massage therapist that changed my life forever. A colleague of mine said his wife had a friend but he wasn’t sure

if she was good or not. Even at the time of my first visit, I knew her techniques were different from any other therapist because when I left the session, I felt like a Mac truck hit me.

My curiosity increased so I decided to try her again and pretty soon I had my regular appointments with her for two hour sessions twice a week for about six weeks. There was one session which opened my mind forever. I wasn’t feeling sleepy. Normally, as soon as I got on the table, I would be out within 10 to 15 minutes. On that day, I got antsy after about 20 minutes and I told my therapist, “Something is wrong!” She responded with a simple, “How so?” I quickly explained that I in no way feel tired or sleepy and I want to be so I can have my awesome nap.” She smiled and said to me in a gentle voice, ”Let me ask you this… Have you been having more peaceful night sleeps?” Without hesitation, I answered, “Why yes, actually.”

She continued, “What about more energy throughout the day? How about your attitude changing to be more positive?

And what about…” She went on naming about 10 other different things, to which I said yes to all of them. I realized at that moment what she was trying to say to me. I still asked her a question which I already felt I knew the answer, but I needed to hear it from her, “So, are you natural awakenings

saying these are the effects of massage therapy?” She looked into my eyes and said to me, “What do you think?” My head went into a major spin as I thought, “What have those other therapists been doing to me all of those years? I’ve never seen this effect on my body before.” Then I thought, “What I have I been paying them for 15 years?”

From that session onward, I never got sleepy on the table and by staying awake, I was now curious about this massage therapy business and I started asking lots and lots of questions. So, my path of wellness started there by searching for schools in massage therapy to teach me more about how the body works so I deal with my problems while making some extra cash on the weekends. Little did I know then, that massage therapy would become my new passion in life.

Nowadays, I’m also a licensed massage therapist instructor and I hold close to 200 extra hours from what is required after massage school and well beyond what the state requires us to take. Deep tissue is what I started with, but it pales in comparison with Lymphatic Drainage Therapy and Shiatsu of which I specialize in now. Other modalities I am good at are Aromatherapy, Ancient Thai Massage, Pre and Postnatal Massage, Cupping, Sports, Acu-Kineseiology, Reflexology, and of course, Swedish. My training has allowed me to work with all types of issues. Soon, I will specialize in the brain from the same school that taught me Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, which excites me beyond belief.

Honestly, I don’t do or enjoy the “fluff and buff massage”, as my first instructor would call it. It has its purpose for some folks but I rather focus on issues other therapists are not able to work on.

So, I do turn away folks. I am not everyone’s therapist. Folks drawn to me are ones that I need to make amends with due to prior lives. Somehow, someway, God, the universe brings us together. This is why I will only advertise in places like Natural Awakenings Magazine because I believe folks that are in the same level in their spiritual growth, will be drawn.

Jeff Primack: Eating raw fruits and veggies give us enzymes with lots of Qi, however it is a source of dampness in Chinese medicine. Qigong views digestion like a cauldron of water boiling over a fire. If you put too much water/raw foods in the pot all at once it will take longer to boil.

By not eating unto fullness and cooking we access more energy and Qigong focuses on improving this “digestive fire”. Eating a high-phytochemical diet that is rich in deep colored foods, electron abundant anti-oxidants and cooking with saturated fats is suggested.

I drink smoothies with organic veggies and fruits like strawberries and avocado with its big seed, however, cooking is known to improve nutrient absorption in studies and therefore, cooking hot meals is a big part of our program.

echnology tends to isolate us from others, but science points to the real value in reaching out. On average, we come into contact with more than 100 people a day, but often may not make any real connection with them.

On a typical college campus, it’s rare to see a student not plugged in while walking from class to class.

Saying “Hi” to an acquaintance or complimenting someone in passing is nearly impossible. These little day-to-day interactions could provide a steady source of simple pleasures for all if we regularly made the most of such opportunities.

Part of the reason we intentionally isolate ourselves might be the false belief that we’ll be happier by doing so, according to a recent University of Chicago study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology. When subway riders were asked how they thought they would feel if they spoke to a stranger, nearly all of them predicted that the ride would be “less pleasant” than if they kept to themselves. After the ride, however, the results were unanimous: Those that spoke to another person reported having a more positive experience than those that sat in silence. natural awakenings

Parents teach children not to talk to strangers, but as adults, we miss a lot if we don’t. Even small talk can make a big difference in the quality of our day.

It’s easy to try it to see if we don’t end up with a smile on our face.

It’s ironic that young people spend hours each day on social networking sites, texting others and making plans with friends so they won’t sit alone at night, yet are getting worse at making such connections face-to-face. Even seated at the same table, conversational eye contact is becoming a lost art, another casualty of technology.

Talking with others correlates with better communication skills, too. A 20-year study from Stanford University concluded that its most successful MBA graduates were those that showed the highest interests and skills in talking with others.

So, instead of shying away from chatting with a fellow commuter or asking a cashier how her day is going, say “Hello.” It’s bound to make everyone’s day better.
