Hometown: Resides In: Hiawatha, KS Westcliffe, CO
Brenda gives full credit to her Grandmother, Hiskey, for always teaching her essential "life skills" and how to make her own income Hiskey was widowed with two children during the Great Depression She survived by cleaning houses, ironing and sewing for people, and even working in a chicken factory where she plucked chickens by hand Then in later years, she worked at multiple nursing homes One day Brenda was "complaining" to Hiskey that she wanted a small record player because she loved music Brenda explained that her parents would not buy it for her They had five children and did not have the extra money Hiskey said, "Brenda, you just have to earn money yourself " She replied, "Grandma, I am only nine years old and cannot get a job!"
Brenda's grandmother said she would find her something Soon she came with packages of seeds for gardens along with an order form Brenda got to work selling seeds around town and to her garden friends Next, her Grandma set her up selling greeting cards and taking orders Hiskey gave Brenda her first "loan," which she had to pay back for the initial order of seeds and cards She taught her to do her orders and count back money Brenda's Grandma is genuinely her hero in life!
Her first Real Estate sale was about 30 years ago in Kansas. She had a buyer looking for a home, and he had very little income. Brenda had to get creative when he shared his price range with her! After an extensive search, the only thing in that price range she could find was an abandoned old locker plant made out of cement blocks, but it had a bathroom and a kitchen! She decided this could work for him, and he loved it when she took him to see it!
Brenda has had many adventures in Real Estate in her 30 years of helping buyers and sellers She hopes to write a book someday of all the funny and not-so-funny tales that she has experienced Brenda was an X-Ray tech before going into the Real Estate field, and she had much love for that job but needed a new career where she had more flexible hours (which is how she first thought it would be) so she could take care of her husband and four wonderful children She now has two daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren! She hopes she can be a hero to them as she continues to teach them how to work hard, flip houses, invest, and pay for their way in life! To Brenda, there is nothing better than that This job has taught her a lot about the world and people It is never dull!
