Hospiscare Open Gardens 2016

Welcome

“As a participant in the Hospiscare open gardens for many years it is lovely to be able to share some of my thoughts and experiences with gardeners and visitors to the 2016 gardens. “We’ll come back when it’s all out in flower!” A comment that, yes, I have heard from garden visitors more than once (I’m sure Chris Britton, High they don’t come back!) and one that is bound Garden Nurseries to cause the blood pressure to rise in all but the most easy going of garden owners. Of course, no one reading this booklet and intending to visit one of the great variety of interesting and exciting horticultural spectacles herein described, would ever have such a thought! Gardens aren’t mini-Chelsea Flower Shows, they change, they ebb and flow, they awaken, live and then go into ‘hibernation’ – but it’s interesting, it’s real, it’s year-round. Okay, so perhaps not in a filthy January rainstorm with a force 8 blast! We live in, and with, our garden all year. Hopefully on the days we open most things come together. There will be anticipation of what’s to come, as well as the evidence of past glory. So this season we hope you’ll join the crowds, appreciate the hard work of the gardeners and take the opportunity to raise monies for a great local charity. You know what – you might be lucky and find everything IS all out in flower!”
