hat if we told you that auto clutches are the hot new thing for Harleys? Well, we have been playing with them for years and absolutely dig them. Many designs in the past have had as many parts as a Swiss watch and weren’t nearly as dependable as we would have liked. That was until the Idaho-based company known as Rekluse hit the HarleyDavidson scene with the EXP 3.0 clutch. Using centrifugal force, the $799 U.S.-made Rekluse EXP 3.0 auto clutch allows a rider to start and stop without ever pulling in the clutch lever. The system uses a centrifugally driven proprietary technology, which prevents the engine from stalling when stopped. Yes, y’all, you don’t have to hold or feather the clutch in at red lights or in heavy traffic anymore. You can just take off and stop in gear without using the clutch lever.

We installed one in a bagger, as well as a Dyna, and have loved using the EXP clutch on the SoCal freeways and at bike-weektype events where the stop-and-go traffic is overly prevalent. To make it clear, the Rekluse EXP clutch is not an “auto clutch” like those of a car or moped where you just gas and go. The transmission still has to be shifted between gears with your hand and foot. And once the kit is installed, you can still ride the bike as normal, using the clutch to engage all the bike’s gears as before. If you would ever want to. The install is just as quick as changing out a clutch pack, and there is no modification to the stock components. Performance-wise, the TorqDrive clutch pack delivers higher torque capacity and faster power transfer over the stock setup, making clutchless power launches from a standstill really fun! HB
