ERFURT In 1997 designer Lotte Erfurt Hjorth and CEO Jacob Hjorth decided something new had to happen, and the decision of founding the new brand erfurt was made. The idea from the beginning was to create a well known brand with a taste of luxury and high quality to continue the life philosophies of the two entrepreneurs. The experiences from working with different Scandinavian fashion brands are used to enlighten the new concept which we today know as erfurt luxury accessories. Designer Lotte Erfurt Hjorth gets her inspiration from travels abroad to many different places in the world but also from her day to day life in Denmark where she lives with Jacob and their 4 lovely children. Especially the family mansion and country estate since 1850 situated in the Danish country site is a nest of many ideas and thoughts. A.C. PERCH´S Tea was one of the most important products traded at the end of the 18th century and many merchants established and obtained their goods from docking ships at Christianshavn in Copenhagen. Among these merchants was Niels Brock Perch the founder of A.C. Perch´s Tea Shop. The idea was to sell the best teas from all over the world and today this is still their most important task. Seven generations of tea merchants have owned the family business and the historical tea shop has not changed much in 180 years. AARHUS CATHEDRAL The building of Aarhus Cathedral was started in the last decades of the 12th Century. The Cathedral – a magnificent Romanesque basilica – was a gigantic project, not finished until about 1350. The outer walls of this Cathedral and the beautiful chapels along the eastern wall of the transept are the only surviving Romanesque elements today. The Cathedral, as it otherwise stands today, is the result of radical rebuilding in the Gothic style, undertaken from 1449 till about 1500, transforming the heavy and sombre building into a Gothic cathedral. Considerable height completed with cross- and star vaulting was added to the nave as well as to the aisles and the transept. STORE TORV 1 8000 AARHUS C 100

CITY HALL Architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller won the 1937 competition to design a new city hall for Aarhus. But the original project hit a snag in 1942 when the people of Aarhus realised their city hall would have no tower. They were not at all happy. Many of them thought that the city’s most important building should be monumental. And although it was a time of modern ideas and democracy, it had to have a tower. So the architects added a 60-metre rectangular tower to the original plan. This tower is clad in sheets of marble topped by a concrete structure with six balconies and two clock faces. It looks a little like abandoned scaffolding, and many people did not like it at first. However, it has since become a valued trademark for the city. RÅDHUSPLADSEN 2 8000 AARHUS C P:+45 8940 2000 101

GAMMEL ESTRUP A tour of Gammel Estrup’s magnificent halls and rooms gives unique insight into 600 years of the grand life of the Danish aristocracy. The individual rooms are furnished to show how the rooms might have been laid out during the centuries when the manor was inhabited. A new exhibition gives the Manor House Museum’s version of life downstairs at Danish manor houses around the year 1900. The servants’ quarters consist of the servants’ dining room, where all the staff working at the main building ate their meals, the housekeeper’s room next door to it and in particular the manor house kitchen with its great wood-fired kitchen range dating from the 1880s. In the kitchen, the cook can often be seen hard at work cooking or baking at the hot kitchen range. At Gammel Estrup, a lot of the original gardens have been preserved. The natural focus of the gardens is the two elegant orangeries from 1725-26. These beautiful buildings with their great windows were used to protect the delicate garden plants from frost during the winter. AARHUS THEATRE The present theatre house was constructed in the late 19th century, as a replacement for the old theatre, nicknamed “Svedekassen” (English: The Sweat-box). Since Aarhus had grown to become Jutland’s biggest city during the 19th century, the old theatre had become too small to serve the public demand. A new building was designed by the Danish architect Hack Kampmann (1856–1920), and the construction began on 12th of August 1898. Only two years later, Aarhus Theatre stood completed and was inaugurated on the 15th of September 1900. The architectural style of the building is Art Nouveau, with the national romantic emphasis on natural materials, and the interior design was completed by artists Hansen-Reistrup and Hans Tegner. In 2007, the Aarhus Theatre received an audio make-over. TEATERGADEN 8000 AARHUS C P: +45 8933 2300 WWW.AARHUSTEATER.DK 107
