Shamballa Je wels
Ancient scriptures tell us of a mythical kingdom hidden in a valley in the Himalayas. A harmonious place populated by enlightened and compassionate people, the Kingdom of Shamballa when translated from Sanskrit, means ‘a place of peace and tranquility’. At Shamballa Jewels, we aspire to recreate that mythical place vibrant with the energy of creation. This philosophy is central to our jewellery and to the way we conduct our commerce. Evocative of spiritual icons, symbols, and prayer beads used since the dawn of time, our jewellery encourages you to find your inner Shamballa. The distinct way of presenting holistic principles of yoga and meditation with our pavé beads and macramé braiding is now synonymous with Shamballa Jewels’ signature style. Reminiscent of places near and far, of spiritual stories ancient and new, our jewellery is designed to trigger curiosity and inspire conversation. The Star of Shamballa – two intercrossed thunderbolts, symbolise the male firepower of creation, and the female creative energy. The thunderbolt is a symbol for irresistible force across many ancient cultures. Most elements of our jewellery are customisable; we invite you to take part in creating a piece that is inimitably you. Just like stars, human can emanate heat and light. You are a star. The Star of Shamballa present in our designs will be your constant reminder of that. Explore the Energy of Creation.

ith a devoted following that includes world-renowned superstars Rihanna, Helena Christensen, Jay-Z, Michael Jordan, Beyoncé and Heidi Klum, Copenhagen-based jewellery company Shamballa Jewels creates outfit-enhancing designs that are simple yet cutting-edge, while symbolising a deeper meaning for the wearer.
SpiritualL: The jewellery is inspired by Indian and Tibetan mythology – Shamballa derives from the Himalayan mythical kingdom of the same name – as well as founder Mads Kornerup’s passion for yoga and meditation. Each piece is distinctive to the individual wearer and forming a personal connection is an integral philosophy. With the presence of the Star of Shamballa on every piece, Mads explains: ‘It’s there to remind us that we are all little shining stars that shine brighter when we smile. If a wearer looks at their piece of jewellery, hopefully it will make them smile and cause
There’s good energy in everybody and my aim is that the designs will remind people of their inner power
everyone around them to smile too. There’s good energy in everybody and my aim is that the designs will remind people of their inner power.’ The company’s signature piece, the Shamballa bracelet, is the item most customers are drawn to and fall in love with – Mads hears many stories about customers who simply refuse to take theirs off. Taking inspiration from Tibetan Mala beads, Mads originally designed the bracelet for himself and his brother, as well as his business partner, Mikkel. ‘There wasn’t anything similar available for men that carried the same meaning or symbolism,’ says Mads.
Masculine: Furthering this theme, designs are mainly aimed at men and Mads creates pieces that he personally would choose to wear. However, the use of precious stones such as sapphires, rubies, emeralds and diamonds has seen more and more women attracted to the brand. ‘They have become such a large part of customer base that we have had to adjust our look a little bit,’ says Mads, ‘so it isn’t as masculine as I would have maybe preferred! And, over the years, the women who work at the company have definitely influenced the designs.’ The bracelets are very versatile, complementing the laid-back, afternoon look of a T-shirt and jeans or adding to the character of an evening tuxedo. And they can be designed to incorporate individual touches, such as an engraving of the wearer’s star sign or initials – Jay-Z chose for his fashion collection’s Rocawear logo to be featured on his. Mads also sources distinctive
stones, whether they are 16-carat black diamonds, pink Argyle diamonds or earth beads. Although, around 90 per cent of men who buy the bracelets choose those with black diamonds, preferring their masculine and powerful style. ‘I try to make each bracelet individual and special,’ he adds. ‘At a dinner party there could be 12 or 15 people wearing a Shamballa bracelet and not one of them would be the same; they would have different colour threads, various types of gold and a range of precious stones.’
Distinction: Having originally got into jewellery design purely by coincidence, Mads can now boast that, as well as a flagship store in Copenhagen, Shamballa Jewels’ bracelets, pendants and rings are sold in luxury department stores and high-end jewellery shops across the world. In 2005, the company also received the Rising Star award at the prestigious JCK jewellery show in Las Vegas. ‘The look of the pieces is very understated, but the stones and materials used are very high-quality,’ he says. ‘In Basel, senior people from big jewellery companies, such as Bulgari and LVMH, were impressed with the style, stones and settings of the pieces. I think that was the biggest compliment we could ever get; that these other renowned jewellery designers praised us for our quality.’ ContaCt: www.shamballajewels.com
