“KLASSIKEREN”
This year it is 40 years ago that furniture architect Erik Ole Joergensen presented the sketches of his new sofa to furniture manufacturer Erik Joergensen. The right seating height, the pleasant comfort and the precise detailing to the finest performed by our craftmen, the many handmade buttons that keeps the woolen fabric or the hides in place is still the signature of the quality that is in the sofa. We have now added a highback wing chair and a 2,5 seater to the collection.

Every year, the Louisiana Museum shows approx 8 major exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, including classical masters of modern art as well as new and upcoming international artists. Louisiana is not merely an experience in modern and contemporary art, but a congenial reflection of the interplay between art, architecture and landscape. The park serves as an ideal setting for displaying the museum’s collection of modern sculptures. Similarly the prominent museum buildings, constructed between 1958 and 1998, offer a fascinating background for the permanent collection of twentieth century art.

THORVALDSENS MUSEUM Thorvaldsen’s Museum is built as a framework for a single artist’s oeuvre, the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844). Thorvaldsen lived more than 40 years in Rome, where he became one of the most celebrated artists. In 1838, he bequeathed both his work and his art collections to his home city Copenhagen that dedicated an entire museum building to his work. Thorvaldsen Museum opened in 1848 and it was the country’s first public museum. The museum’s architecture and the exhibited sculptures play beautifully together, and the colorful and richly decorated rooms are a very special experience. The museum consists of 900 of Thorvaldsen’s own works - sculptures and reliefs in plaster and marble and designed and modeled sketches for sculptures. Most images are taken from Greek and Roman mythology - but there are also a large number of portrait busts and sculptures of European civilians, ecclesiastical and royalty, all ordered their portrait by the famous sculptor. The museum also holds Thorvaldsen’s collection of Danish and European paintings and his antique collection with marble sculptures, vases, coins and more from Egypt, Greece and Italy.

FREDERIKSBORG CASTLE Art, culture and history is gathered at king Christian 4.s renaissance castle, which is one of Copenhagen suburban’s finest museums. A tour of Frederiksborg Castle’s many beautiful rooms is a journey through 500 years of Danish history. The story is told through portraits, paintings, furniture and decorative arts and on your way you will meet kings, queens, nobles, bourgeois, all of which have helped to shape Denmark’s history and development from the middle ages to the 21st century. The extravagant renaissance building with its many spires and towers were built by king Christian 4. In 1859 there was a fire that destroyed much of the castle’s interior, but you can still find chambers that tell the story of the king’s castle. The Chapel and the Audience Chamber survived the fire and the two rooms, one from the renaissance and the other from thebaroque, are some of Denmark’s finest preserved royal interiors.

Uanset vejret byder Zoologisk Have på tropevarme oplevelser i Tropezoo. Zoo huser desuden over 3000 dyr, tilsammen 264 spændende arter.
ZOO 5 February 2013 Copenhagen Zoo’s new and unique facilities for polar bears, North Atlantic birds and seals, The Arctic Ring, opened.

Royal Regalia at Rosenborg Castle.

Throughout the year, Øregaard Museum hosts many kinds of events and recurrent traditions for both adults and children, including guided tours and lectures, art workshops for children, the Shrovetide children’s carnival, Easter activities, a harvest market, torch-lit late summer celebrations in the park, and finally ‘Christmas as in the old days’. Such events have made Øregaard Museum a popular community gathering point.

GEORG JENSEN CELEBRATES 110 YEARS OF DESIGN AND INNOVATION The common thread in the Georg Jensen legacy is the man himself. Georg Jensen was trained as a sculptor, and inspired by the spirit of innovation and with his unique artistic ingenuity he set out to become a pioneer within silver design. He designed and created silver hollowware, flatware and jewellery, which he sold from his charming boutique in central Copenhagen. In 1904, Georg Jensen founded the company that still bears his name today.

Georg Jensen was strongly influenced by the magical landscapes of nature. Budding trees and flowers, shimmering moonlight and the Danish fauna inspired his artistic sensibilities. In the homeland of Hans Christian Andersen he found fantasy and adventure in everyday life and created works of art that were equally as practical as they were decorative. No. 19, his graceful silver fruit bowl, which later became known as the Louvre bowl, was included in the collections of the Louvre Museum in Paris in 1914 in recognition of Georg Jensen’s artistic talent. With his global vision, Georg Jensen preferred to showcase his designs at world expositions and trade fairs where he introduced new and potential customers to his work. At the Pan Pacific Exhibition in 1915, US media mogul William Randolph Hearst purchased Jensen’s entire production for Hearst Castle, the Hearst family’s impressive estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean from the hilltops outside San Simeon in California.

Georg Jensen was preoccupied with a new creative vision, entering artistic partnerships with leading sculptors and designers – a method of working that still characterises Georg Jensen today. All the leading design movements of the 20th century are represented at Georg Jensen. Johan Rohde, the first artist Georg Jensen worked with, added a pure-lined dimension to the sumptuous Art Nouveau style of the Georg Jensen collections. Later, Harald Nielsen created dazzling Art Deco designs, while Count Sigvard Bernadotte gave Georg Jensen a regal touch of Swedish royalty with his distinctive Bernadotte cutlery.

Following the death of Georg Jensen in 1935, the collaborations with the artists continued: Henning Koppel, Arno Malinowski, Arne Jacobsen and Verner Panton each challenged traditions in their own way with bold and original designs. Georg Jensen developed his jewellery collections in partnership with female designers such as Astrid Fog, Nanna Ditzel and Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe. In 2013, the Georg Jensen brand was acquired by Investcorp and David Chu, founder of Nautica. Chu, who is both CEO and creative director of Georg Jensen, has launched new collections of jewellery and added gold, diamonds and other colourful gemstones to existing collections in full keeping with the heritage and traditions of Georg Jensen and Denmark. Chu has dug into the treasure trove of the Georg Jensen archives and sought inspiration in the company’s illustrious legacy. He has given the silverware from the archives new proportions and each season he adds exciting new designs. In 2014, David Chu launched a new collection of men’s and ladies’ watches as well as a portfolio of men’s accessories by Georg Jensen. Chu is also the driving force behind Georg Jensen Heritage, a collection of historical and modern silver hollowware, cutlery and crafts for the home, popular among connoisseurs and collectors worldwide. The collection is available exclusively from Georg Jensen flagship stores in Copenhagen, New York, London, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo and Melbourne.
Kollektionerne fås udelukkende i Georg Jensens flagskibsbutikker i København, New York, London, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo og Melbourne.

OLAFUR ELIASSON, RIVERBED Generally speaking, artworks on show at museums are not meant to be touched – let alone walked on. But that’s what you are required to do when experiencing Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson’s main contribution to an exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art north of Copenhagen. The installation represents a gigantic Icelandic landscape of rock and gravel that inhabits the galleries of the museum’s entire South Wing.
151
THE MAGAZINE NO. 27
Nærvær. Sansning. Engagement!
152
Presence, sensation, engagement! The museum is an open, vibrant location that engages both the body and soul – a place where we as visitors must step into character, take an active part and thrust ourselves into the game. These are among the guiding thoughts behind Olafur Eliasson’s first solo exhibition at Louisiana. The exhibition radically intervenes with the space and architecture of the museum, which is particularly the case with the exhibition’s central work, Riverbed (2014), which brings the institutional character and location of the museum into artistic play, questioning the blurred zone between indoors and outdoors, culture and staged nature.
THE MAGAZINE NO. 27
Olafur Eliasson seeks to involve the audience in his work and calls art a “reality machine”. “When our senses come into play, it makes us touch reality. We become aware of our presence in the moment,” he says. He wishes to point to the museum space as being “a physical, bodily process.” The elements are brought into a mix and flow in the hope that “people get a total experience, also because of what they contribute themselves.”

MOVEMENT
bevægelsen er i fokus
Olafur Eliasson’s exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is sitespecific in the sense that it reflects the museum’s unique identity and consists of four parts, each of which represent the theme of a meeting between Eliasson’s art and Louisiana as a specific location in spatial, architectural and institutional terms. What is in focus is movement in relation to the meeting between Eliasson, Louisiana and the visitor.
RIVERBED
riverbed
Riverbed reflects the special relationship between nature, architecture and art characteristic of the location. A surface of shingles covers the gallery floors through which a stream of water meanders. Eliasson’s artwork is about walking, but it also touches on more fundamental questions regarding the scope that an architectural and institutional framework offers its users. What behaviour does the museum invite; which kinds of conventions and habits do we associate with going to a museum?

Artful motifs in vivid colours of voluptuous ladies with angular noses – that’s the magical universe the Rosendahl Design Group sought to revive when in the autumn of 2014 they reintroduced the artistic world of Bjørn Wiinblad (1918-2006), a Danish artist and bon vivant, with a new and fantastical collection of contemporary housewares. Wiinblad was extremely popular back in the 1960s and 70s, and his intricate, whimsical female motifs brought a smile to many a soul. Since that time, Wiinblad’s designs slipped out of fashion – only to resurface in recent years as hip flea market treasures. Responding to this new trend, the Rosendahl Design Group now offers avid collectors as well as new generations a chance to own his lively designs.

160
ARTIST AGAINST ALL ODDS
With both a grandfather and a father in politics, the odds were stacked against Bjørn Wiinblad becoming a world famous artist. But his unique talent for drawing soon became apparent, and when he first gained a foothold as an artist his popularity grew rapidly, perhaps because Wiinblad went against the grain of many contemporary artisans who strove to achieve a modernist form of clarity. Wiinblad, on the other hand, was a maximalist, which comes forth in his ceramics as well as his set designs and total interiors. Bjørn Wiinblad was not only a multi-talented artist but most definitely also a bon vivant. His lifestyle was far removed from that of a struggling artist and he enjoyed life to the full. With a bulging bank account and a Swiss home, he would indulge in champagne parties and entertain the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Wiinblad, however, never drank alcohol himself for it was at night when he was at his most prolific and created some of his greatest works.

162
HIS HEART WAS IN DENMARK
But although he enjoyed an international lifestyle where worldwide celebrities were his guests, he felt most at home in his beloved house, Det Blå Hus (The Blue House) in Kongens Lyngby, just north of Copenhagen. Here, Bjørn Wiinblad found the inner peace with which to create the motifs the world came to love. His Danish home, which is owned by the Bjørn Wiinblad estate, is today a source not only of knowledge about the artist himself but also a wellspring of inspiration for those seeking to revive the DNA of his artistic legacy. Wiinblad’s Danish home is every bit as magical as his artistic world. So quite naturally, the Blue House was also the fount of inspiration when the Rosendahl Design Group set out to revive Wiinblad as a design brand. Indeed, the new Wiinblad collection came to light in these whimsical rooms surrounded by the many artefacts that belonged to the multi-artist, inspired by his lively artistic spirit. The collection comprises 47 new Wiinblad pieces, which are embellished with motifs that are 100 percent recreated after the artist’s original drawings yet reflect a contemporary colour scheme and design universe. With this new Wiinblad collection, the Rosendahl Design Group will not only reintroduce to the world an inspiring artist but also financially support Wiinblad’s ultimate dream of transforming the Blue House into a working museum.

A LEGACY COLLECTION
It is with the greatest respect for Wiinblad’s design legacy that the Rosendahl Design Group launched the new Wiinblad collection in the fall of 2014. Here Rosalinde, Felicia, Cecilia, Amelia and Rosamunde take centre stage. Among the housewares these ladies adorn are simple white mugs, bowls, cutting boards and candleholders. The colours are simple and timeless and can be mixed and matched. With the new Wiinblad collection, the Rosendahl Design Group pays homage to this colourful artist in the very best way.

The International Guild of Realism”.
164
Daniel Goldenberg seeks as his first priority to create aesthetically interesting paintings and has always been attracted to the challenge of painting realism, and learning classical painting techniques. Although the motifs seem carefully planned, it is often his intuition that determines whether a design will work and the choices he makes during the working process. He pursues an understated mysterious dimension, but this is also best done intuitively, without his conscious attempt to do so. It is not his intention that his paintings are to resemble reality as closely as possible, and he usually removes distracting elements in the motif or even makes larger changes if this works better. Besides working as an artist, he teaches realistic painting and colour theory. He is a member of the International Guild of Realism. Cityscapes, which have been Goldenberg’s focus in recent years, contain many elements he finds fascinating. In art as in life, opposites create tension (and possible transformation) and the most important opposites in painting are light and shadow. Other opposites could be isolated, bright colours that break the otherwise subdued colours, or the architectural buildings’ interaction with the functionality in sidewalk paving and asphalt, or the seeming arrest of time broken by the movement of a car or pedestrian. Goldenberg spends a lot time on research and photography, so he needs to be in the city he paints, which is Copenhagen where he lives.

There was applause all round when we discovered that Danish furniture manufacturer Erik Jørgensen would relaunch Hans J. Wegner’s Ox Chair in celebration of the centennial of the designer’s birth. The Ox Chair, or EJ100 as the armchair is also called, has been a design buff’s dream ever since it hit the showrooms in 1960. This is, indeed, a true classic rendered with a masculine touch. The chair is crafted using quality materials and reflects superb craftsmanship. Bonus: The anniversary edition of the chair features a metal plaque with the designer’s signature and sequential numbering. But hurry: The unique edition is only commercially available until 2 April 2015. Men skynd dig. Jubilæumsudgaven er kun i handlen indtil den 2. april 2015.

In addition to offering exceptional seating comfort, the modular chair can easily be turned into a sofa, a feature that perfectly reflects a contemporary requirement for flexibility. Similarly, this oak easy chair is designed with removable armrests, if you’re seeking a loungey look in your living room. This high-quality chair, crafted at GETAMA’s own facility in North Jutland, was recently relaunched in celebration of the centenary of the birth of the designer, and we warmly welcome the revival – you’ve been missed! GENTLEMAN’S STYLE
designikon til herreværelset
Hans J. Wegner was born on 2 April 1914 and no one at the time could have imagined that, one day, he would become a great Danish design legend, creator of such irrefutable classics as the China Chair, Papa Bear Chair, Y Chair and the Flag Halyard Chair. To celebrate the centennial of the designer, the Danish design company GETAMA has relaunched his sleekly crafted GE 34 collection, now featured with stylish fabrics by Kvadrat. Timelessly fashioned, the GE 34 collection perfectly matches the designconscious aspirations of contemporary homeowners. The collection consists of two and three-seat versions of one of the first Wegner sofa designs on the market. Also returning to the collection is a well-proportioned lounge chair that exudes comfort and quality.

There’s still bounce and appeal in a 60-year-old – that must have been the reasoning behind the relaunch in 2014 of the original, unmodified Søborg Chair, designed in 1953 by the über-popular Danish designer Børge Mogensen, the man behind such immortal classics as the Spanish Chair, the Hunting Chair, the People’s Chair and the Spoke-Back Sofa. The sleek, organic shapes, crafted using moulded plywood, bear clear reference to the Shaker style, a look that secured the chair awards in 2014 in leading Danish interior magazines Bo Bedre, Costume Living and Boligmagasinet.

Even as we celebrate the centennial of his birth, his form-meets-function idiom and penchant for good craftsmanship still inspire up-and-coming designers. Børge Mogensen developed a unique partnership with the Danish furniture company Fredericia Furniture, which now relaunches a two-seat version of his excellent sofa, No. 1, designed in 1955, following the resounding success of the launch of his three-seat version in the spring of 2014. The first sofa Børge Mogensen designed for Fredericia Furniture, No. 1 was created for the times yet is also timeless – perfect for those seeking a personal yet classical look in their living room or office. The sofa has two loose back cushions, while the long seat cushion is designed to optimise seating comfort. A familiar feature also of Børge Mogensen’s later sofa designs.

TESLA –INSANE SPEED Insane! That was the verdict of the journalist behind the first automotive review of Tesla’s new dual motor four-wheel drive model. He went on to define the term ‘insanity’ in context, retrieving two definitions from the dictionary and as the third synonym, he simply suggested: Tesla Model S P85D. You have most probably heard of Tesla, and maybe you have even seen a Model S silently glide past you on the street. And if you’re among the lucky few, you’ve even had the pleasure of experiencing the car from the driver’s seat, soundlessly picking up speed to blow you away. For the uninitiated, we are here talking of the Tesla Model S, a luxury electric car that was hailed as the “best performing electric car ever tested” by the US Consumer Reports. “Vanvittig!” Journalisten uddyber ordet vanvittig i tre trin.

først med to motorer
FIRST WITH DUAL ENGINES
And now the Tesla Model S has a crazy twin brother. With the introduction of the Tesla Model S P85D, the eco-friendly Model S not only offers the comfort of an executive-class luxury sedan, it now also feels like a Ferrarikiller. But it isn’t just the car’s lightning-fast performance that’s insane – the interface is pretty wacky, too, in a geeky kind of way. For instance, you can adjust the stereo volume to level 11 (one up on the regular scale of 0-10) – a reference to the This is Spinal Tap rock music mockumentary. And in the settings of the car you can choose between ‘normal, sporty and insane’. Because the latter, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk explains, really is “insane”!
FASTER THAN A SUPERCAR
On the exterior, the Tesla S P85D only differs from its sibling by discreetly displaying the letter D (for Dual motor) on the tailgate, but on the interior, the new car marks nothing less than a revolution. Despite its executive-class size the car tears up tarmac like a Ferrari and reaches 100kpm in an impressive 3.4 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250kph to conserve power. The Tesla Model P85D is the world’s first dual engine production car, with one 470hp motor located between the rear wheels and an additional 221hp motor located between the two front wheels. The two motors are digitally controlled and there is no heavy, bulky drive shaft, which is why the distribution of force between the wheels can be modified in just milliseconds, far more efficiently than with any mechanical system.

Her tilbyder producenten Tesla-ejere at lynlade deres biler gratis.
186
SILENT COMFORT
But what makes a Tesla so unique? The first things that overwhelm you when stepping on the accelerator are the sheer G-forces, followed by the silence. You are pressed back in your seat with the feeling of being swept away like a leaf by a mighty gust of wind. No torque, no redeeming roar as the forces are unleashed. Just silent comfort, as we know it primarily from German executive sedans. But it’s not just the Tesla Model S that is in a class of its own. The whole Tesla concept is radically different from anything we’ve ever seen before. For example, Tesla has set up a network of supercharger stations covering most of Europe. Here, cars are supercharged at no expense to motorists owning Tesla models with larger battery packs. The European network has been up and running since August 2013 and by the end of 2014, Tesla customers will enjoy access to over 100 supercharging stations in Europe, reaching from the North Cape to Rome. Tesla already has two showrooms and service centres in Copenhagen and has just opened a showroom with service facilities in Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city.

fantastiske køreegenskaber
AMAZING HANDLING
At the heart of the Tesla S P85D is the well-tested Tesla drivetrain, which delivers both extreme range and great handling. With a range of over 500km, the Tesla S P85D even surpasses the Model S. The two electric motors provide full momentum from the very moment of ignition, and the rigidity and balanced weight distribution of the car combined with its powerful pull, low centre of gravity and all-wheel drive ensures that you enjoy not only the comfort of a luxury sedan but also the easy handling of a sports car. The absence of an internal combustion engine also gives the Tesla Model S ample luggage space, including storage under the hood/bonnet. Among its other features, the Tesla S P85D cabin interior is dominated by a 17” touch screen with Internet access.

tesla betaler strømmen Tesla investerer enorme beløb i infrastruktur i Danmark.
188
TESLA PAYS FOR THE POWER
Tesla is investing huge sums in infrastructure in Denmark. In December, Europe’s largest Supercharger station will open near the town of Køge south of Copenhagen. Tesla’s superchargers are the world’s fastest charging system for electric vehicles. A 15-minute charge provides enough power to reach the next charging station (200 km). In addition there are already Supercharger stations in the towns of Middelfart, Randers and Hjørring and there are at least two more in the pipeline for 2015. In practical terms this means that on a return trip between Copenhagen and Esbjerg, for instance, you just need to allow for 20 minutes of supercharging, and also according to Google Maps you will save DKK 620 on gasoline in addition to saving the planet a large amount of CO2 since the stations offer eco-certified power supply. The European network is being developed at lightning speed, and you can now cross large parts of Europe using the Tesla charger stations. By the end of 2015, you will be able to drive all the way from North Cape to Rome and in 2016 you can also reach Istanbul and Lisbon. If you own a Tesla with the larger of the battery packs, using the Supercharger stations is entirely free of charge.

The International Guild of Realism.”

“My first priority is to create aesthetically interesting paintings and I have always been attracted to the challenge of pictorial realism and learning classical painting techniques. Although the motifs seem carefully considered I am often guided by my intuition when it comes to determining whether a motif will work and when making other choices during the working process. I pursue an understated, mysterious dimension, but this is also best achieved intuitively without a conscious approach. My paintings don’t intentionally need to closely resemble reality. I usually remove distracting elements in the motif or even make major changes if that works better. Besides working as an artist I teach realistic painting and colour theory. I’m a member of the International Guild of Realism.”

NO.10 EDITH HEGEDÜS – SELECTED FINE JEWELLERY An immediate air of tranquillity greets you when entering the highceilinged jewellery gallery No.10 on the exclusive Christian IX’s street near Rosenborg Castle, home to the crown jewels. The gallery’s jewels are presented in large antique glass displays originating from the Royal Danish Arsenal Museum. The workshop is in the back separated by a glass wall. Edith Hegedüs is educated industrial designer and a trained goldsmith. Her jewellery is often inspired by something that has been on her mind, an experience or a special treasure from a trip abroad. In the boutique you will find exclusive jewellery in gold and diamonds or hand-cut Italian coral from Torro del Grecco, precious gemstones of all colours or jet from Whitby. Edith also represents seven other Danish goldsmiths. All jewels are handcrafted - everything exclusive, unique and personal, just like the cinematic, edgy and eclectic atmosphere of the gallery – an air of “romantic film noir”. “My clients are people in love about to get married. Flurried men about to propose to someone they love. Friends all chipping in to buy a special gift for somebody. A woman who wants to give herself a gift. Or someone who has emptied her jewel box of old and new gemstones and that we together turn into the jewel of her dreams.” Jytte Kløve, Pernille Elsass, Ditte Stepnicka, Camilla BrockenhuusSchack, Rikke Lunnemann, Nicolette Stoltze, Nanna Schou, Edith Hegedüs

Hans Alf Gallery represents a select group of contemporary Danish and international artists, whose work span across different media, traditions and artistic forms of expression. The aim of the gallery is two-fold: They wish to present international art of the highest caliber to a Danish audience while at the same time promoting Danish art internationally. This versatility is reflected directly in the physical qualities of the gallery, which provide optimal conditions for both the art to unfold and for the spectator to observe. Exhibitions in Hans Alf Gallery are often project-oriented and theme-driven.

ART GUIDE

Hornsleth’s works, whatever medium, are countercultural in every sense of the term, at once toying with, exploiting and criticising popular culture through their defiant attitude to social conformity. Driven by the symbolic representation of his own name, Hornsleth’s work succeeds in engendering its own momentum whilst simultaneously questioning the nature of publicity and celebrity culture at large. Often described as a cross between Friedrich Nietzsche, Andy Warhol and Dr. House, one can always expect a certain playful or egotistical madness in Hornsleth’s work, refreshing and invigorating in its capacity to shock.

ART GUIDE

TACTUS GALERIE Galerie Tactus is a new exhibition space for contemporary gold and silver jewellery in downtown Copenhagen. The main lines of jewellery on display at the moment are not only designed but also handmade by Lina Christensen and her team. The core collection is Very Thin, which consists of a large number of elements – chains and various pendants – that can be combined in endless ways, whichever way the client likes it. In 2007, Tactus started a small-scale production in a village in the Isaan Region of northern Thailand. Many young people in this area don’t see a future there, and yet the crafts tradition is such a strong part of their history. Lina Christensen began by training ten young locals to become high-level goldsmiths, who then found reason to stay. Today, one of them, Na, is in charge of day-to-day activities at Tactus Thailand. New ideas and new projects arise from this exchange. Denmark has a metalwork and jewellery tradition; Thailand has silk and a high-quality weaving tradition. The two cultures share a love of design and good craftsmanship. It’s a bit like making music. We each take out our instruments, and tune them together. This kind of work has been part of all cultures at all times.
