Installing window blinds is one of the easiest and most effective ways to instantly change the appearance of a room in your home. However, why should you choose blinds over other options like curtains? Whether you want to install blinds for practical or aesthetic reasons, here are five key advantages of installing window blinds in your home. 1. Control the Light Entering the Room Window blinds provide you with more control over the amount of light entering the room because you can cover the entire window or just part of the window according to your own needs. For example, the slats on some window blinds are fitted so tightly together that they do not allow any light in at all. This could be ideal for a room where you have a home theatre or in your bedroom where you don’t want any light to wake you up in the morning. 2. Countless Styles, Colours, & Patterns Window blinds come in an endless variety of styles, colours, and patterns, allowing you to create the perfect look in your kitchen, living room, or bathroom. Choose from mini blinds, vertical blinds, roman blinds, and even cordless blinds, which are safer for children and pets as well as being very elegant.
3. Wide Variety of Materials The variety of materials that blinds come in allows you to choose the blind that is most suitable for you in terms of both price and style. For example, if your living room contains wooden furniture, you can complement the room by installing wooden blinds. However, if you find wooden blinds too expensive, you can opt for faux wood instead to keep the costs down. You then have plastic blinds, bamboo blinds, aluminium blinds, and other materials to choose from to ensure that you can always find the right blinds for any room in your home. 4. Enjoy Complete Privacy Blinds provide you with a level of privacy that you cannot get from many other options such as curtains. For the ultimate in privacy control, consider installing top-down shades. Using these, you can lower the shade from the top so that the natural light can come in, but you can still enjoy as much privacy as you require. 5. Easy to Maintain Finally, one of the best things about window blinds is that they are typically very easy to maintain. In fact, many blinds simply require a quick wipe with

a damp cloth from time to time to remove the dust. Compare this to curtains, which need to be washed every once in a while, and blinds start to look like the most convenient option. Find the Perfect Blinds for Your Home Whatever style you have in mind for the rooms in your home, consider installing window blinds. Not only can they become a unique feature of the room, but they also don’t have to cost the earth. In fact, they can often be cheaper to buy and install than curtains, especially if you choose an option like faux wood instead of real wood. So have a look online or in the store next time you go shopping and try to find the perfect window blinds for your home.

‘NO FAULT DIVORCE’ WHAT CAN WE EXPECT? On 6th April 2022 no fault divorce becomes legal. This is arguably the biggest change to matrimonial law for a lifetime, but the question people are asking is ‘What is going to change?’ Change of Procedure
What does this all mean?
Under the new procedure, once the statement of irretrievable breakdown has been filed, the Respondent has 14 days (extended from the previous seven) to file an ‘Acknowledgement of Service’ to confirm whether they are objecting to the divorce or not.
It is thought the new rules and elimination of the requirement to apportion blame will mean less contentious divorces.
Parties must then wait 20 weeks (which is being viewed as a ‘cooling off’ period) before being able to apply for a ‘Conditional Order’, which replaces the current Decree Nisi.
Grounds for Divorce Up until now, divorce has only been granted on the ‘irretrievable breakdown’ of a marriage and this has needed proof for one of five following criteria;
After that, the same six week wait applies before parties can apply for a ‘Final Order’, which replaces the Decree Absolute to finalise the divorce. How long will it take?
2. The other party’s unreasonable behaviour
A divorce under the new procedure will take 26 weeks from start to finish. It is unlikely to be quicker, may in fact take longer, but there is discretion of the Court under the new legislation to shorten this period (without guidance on reasons why this may be permitted, but it could be if one party is well and has a shortened life expectancy.)
3. Desertion
Is anything the same?
4. Two years’ separation with consent
Some things do remain unchanged. Parties must still wait 12 months from the date of the marriage before being able to apply for a divorce. Likewise, the Court only has the power to make any Financial Orders after Conditional Orders have been made. The law and guidance in respect of the division of the matrimonial finances and assets remains unchanged.
1. The other party has committed adultery
5. Five years’ separation Thought the grounds for divorce will still be the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage, it is no longer necessary to satisfy one of the five criteria. Instead, parties can file either a sole or joint statement of irretrievable breakdown.
As parties can file either a sole or a joint statement of irretrievable breakdown this means the Respondent will not be able to use the threat of defending the divorce as leverage. The grounds for defending a divorce are now much more limited and are likely to be restricted to the Court not having jurisdiction or that a divorce has already been issued.

The new procedure and rules are likely to mean that if one party wants to leave and end the marriage then the other party should not be able to stop them. If you want more information about these changes or to discuss whether to issue under the current legislation or new rules then contact one of our family team.

INTERIORS | SMALL LIVING ROOM

Ways to make small living rooms look larger than life It’s all down to the details with small spaces, says Sam Wylie-Harris. No matter how much (or how little) space you have, you’ve always got room for clever design ideas. And when it comes to furnishing and fashioning a small room, there are a few golden rules to make the most of what you have. Here, Victoria Harrison, editor of home renovation and design platform Houzz (houzz.co.uk), shares some top tips to ensure a small living room is big on style and function… Create zones “If your small living room also doubles as a dining, bedroom or work area, zoning can help it feel less cluttered,” says Harrison. “Think about the space available, and list out any specific functions you need the room to have – such as seating. Then you can carve out the space into zones.” She recommends using rugs, room dividers and open shelving to help break up the space.

SMALL LIVING ROOM | INTERIORS
Stay in proportion Harrison says: “In a small room, a large sofa could dwarf the space and only accentuate the compact dimensions. Instead, choose a compact design that’s raised on legs to create a better sense of flow. “The same logic applies for all furniture choices except rugs; a smaller rug can make a room feel cluttered, whereas opting for a larger design can give the illusion of a bigger space.” Depending
on
your
budget,

Go bespoke for storage “To maximise storage in a small living room, it’s important to use every millimetre of space. Bespoke shelving and storage options will allow you to customise to the space you have available and utilise any awkward-sized alcoves,” explains Harrison. Plan
storage
wisely,
with
Harrison
suggesting “a balance of open shelving and closed cabinetry”, so you have the option of displaying some items without taking up too much space. “Painting storage in the same colour as your walls will also help it to recede into the background.” Consider the paint colour Harrison says choosing the right paint colour is “key” in small living spaces: “As a rule of thumb, the brighter you can make the room, the larger it will feel. Opting for pale shades for the walls and using carefully placed mirrors can help to boost the light and open it up. “However, if a room doesn’t benefit from plenty of light, white walls can make it feel dull. Designers aren’t afraid of embracing the petite size of a smaller room, often choosing to wrap the walls in a rich, dark tone, adding drama and creating a cosier feeling.”

SMALL LIVING ROOM | INTERIORS
Layer up the lighting “Lighting is a great tool for adding a feeling of depth to a small living room, as strategically placed lamps and wall lights can highlight different elements of the space,” says Harrison. “By drawing the eye around the room in this way, you can create depth and shadow and distract from smaller proportions.” You could even hide LEDs in the ceiling “to add ambience without seeing the source of the light”, she adds. Add a feature “To
distract
from
a
room’s
smaller
proportions, add a focal point, like a large piece of artwork or beautiful light fixture, which will give the room its own identity and take the focus away from the size,” advises Harrison. “If space permits, a built-in window seat would add more valuable storage and seating space, as well as creating a cosy spot to sit with a book.” Words by Sam Wylie-Harris, PA

We understand that whilst one type of insurance solution works for one organisation, it may not work for another. That’s why our team of experts are on hand to identify and understand the challenges that are unique to your business. We will provide a cost-effective, tailored solution for the risks your business will likely face, whilst avoiding over and under-insurance.
If you have not provided this to your Tenants at the correct time, you may find it difficult to serve them notice later on, should you need to do so. From 1 April 2018, Landlords are only able to let out a property with a rating of ‘E’ or above, and Landlords who breach the legislation by renting out properties rated ‘F’ or ‘G’ could face fines of up to £4,000. There are some exceptions to this requirement eg. for a Listed Building. The EPC takes into account factors such as insulation, heating and hot water systems, ventilation, lighting and fuels used. of the best places to see incredible wildlife this spring
As breeding season starts and creatures emerge from hibernation, it’s time to explore our wilderness, says Sarah Marshall. It’s a season of new beginnings, when shoots appear in the soil, flower petals unfurl and birds busy themselves with preparations for a new generation. In terms of wildlife viewing, spring is the most exciting time of the year – and you don’t have to go far for exhilarating encounters. Right here, on our doorstep, species thrive in forests, fields and along coastlines. All you have to do is make sure you’re in the right place at the right time. Here’s how… Brown bears in Finland Cute, cuddly and an inspiration for our favourite bedtime keepsake, baby bears are adorable – to look at, at least. Best of all, you don’t have to travel millions of miles to see them in the wilderness they call home. In the eastern forests of Finland, it’s possible to observe them from a safe distance, in hides strategically placed alongside lakes or tucked between trees.

Whales and dolphins in the Azores A cluster of volcanic islands whipped by the Atlantic Ocean, the Portuguese-governed Azores are a dramatic sight to behold. But it’s the deep waters surrounding them that hold most interest. A whopping 27 of the world’s 80 whale species have been spotted here, so if flukes and fin-flapping rock your boat, it’s a good place to come. April and May are perfect months for spotting fin, blue and sei whales, as they pass through on their migration and feast upon plankton blooms, spurred by the Gulf Stream. But sperm whales and dolphin species such as Risso’s, bottle nose and common are resident throughout the year. There are nine islands in the volcanic archipelago, but the best place to base yourself is Sao Miguel, where tours depart from the Ponta Delgada harbour. Combine morning whale watching trips with dolphin swims, hikes around the crater lakes and possibly a round of golf. HOW: Sunvil offers a seven-night tailormade Whale and Dolphin Watching Holiday from £1,052 per person (two sharing), excluding flights. Visit sunvil.co.uk.

Puffins in Iceland One fifth of the world’s population of Atlantic puffins comes to nest on Iceland’s Westman Islands – the largest colony in Europe. About one million of the orange-billed birds arrive in April to find their life-long partners and breed in the same grassy areas along craggy cliffs they’ve used for years. Capturing the hearts of onlookers with their mournful Pierrot eyes, the largest number can be found on Heimaey, which is also the easiest place to see them. Observe by foot or by taking a boat ride and watching their clumsy, entertaining flight paths overhead. Come again later in the summer, in August, to see baby pufflings fledge. Attracted by streetlights, some accidentally end up in nearby settlements and it’s become a tradition for young children to reperform rescue missions with cardboard boxes and release them at the coast. HOW: Best-Served Scandinavia offers a tailor-made five-day trip to Iceland, including a stay in the Westman Islands. From £1,260 per person (two sharing), including flights. Visit best-served.co.uk.

Otters and pine martens in Scotland There might still be a chill in the air, but that doesn’t stop birds and mammals from dusting off their feathers, primping their furs and putting on a display. Many species can be found on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the most westerly point of the British mainland and one of the most remote spots in the Scottish Highlands. With only one single track road running for most of its length, there’s little risk of bumping into another human soul. Expect waters as clear as anything you’d find in the Indian Ocean, sandy beaches that glimmer gold in the sunshine and cliffs sculpted into abstract forms by the wind. Spend mornings walking along Loch Sunart searching for otters and pine martens, and look out for golden eagles, white-tailed eagles and short-eared owls. HOW: Naturetrek offers an eight-day Ardnamurchan Wild Scotland In Spring escorted tour from £1,395 per person (two sharing), land only. F L E X I TA R I A N ; O R J U S T A NORMAL DIET? Flexitarian is a word which has only recently appeared in our day-to-day vocabulary but one which seems to be trending in the ever-developing world of people’s dietary needs… But what does it really mean? The Oxford dictionary definition is “A person who has a primarily vegetarian diet but occasionally eats meat and fish”. I don’t know about you but this to me appears to be describing what we would call a good old fashioned “balanced diet”, but we have somehow warranted the need to coin a title for it. Why so? In a market where the extreme is becoming more popular, and restaurants are becoming more and more niche in their menus, it’s hard to keep up with what, how much and how far operators should be going to cater for all everyone’s requirements. It’s a veritable minefield of can and can’t eat, and the worry is that too little or too much might alienate or offend

vegetarian who looks for the benefits of a sustainable yet well rounded diet where nothing it off limits but everything is viewed in moderation. It feels inclusive and surely a win win for all those involved? Why not look to become inclusive all year round, and this Flexitarian ethos is what we’re going to focus on in 2022. Living life in balance sounds like a mantra that we could happily stick to.

What is the new ‘Denmark’ pastels interiors trend? Pastel décor is a light relief from neutral tones and monochrome, says Sam Wylie-Harris.

Seeing the beauty in simplicity, with its calming and inviting clean lines to champion craftsmanship is nothing new. But this season’s fresh take is to add a pop of colour and channel a little happiness in the home, with pastels to imbibe the Denmark pastels trend. A gentle mix of soft, soothing colours, Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy trend expert, says using pastels at home provides both a relaxing effect and a rosy optimism that’s well-suited for fresh starts and recharging – what we all need a bit of right now. “Whether you choose to fill your home with sky blues, seafoam greens, or peachy pinks, these muted tones can help create tranquillity,” says Johnson.

“The Scandinavian aesthetic of Denmark pastels, in particular, is turning heads in interior design right now. It soothes the senses and strikes a nice balance between minimalism and maximalism, depending on how you use it. Plus, it pairs perfectly with abstract shapes.” Easy to slot into your scheme, by introducing Denmark pastels to pale woods and natural finishes, everything looks beautifully fresh and new – the secret is to just go with the flow. “There’s no wrong way to apply this calming colour scheme,” suggests Johnson. “For example, you could construct a cool, calming corner with a mint-green wall hanging, or go all out and transform your whole home into a dreamy, rainbow sorbet-coloured escape. “Whichever you choose, we guarantee these happy hues will bring you some much-needed warmth and whimsy, as the cold winter months trudge along,” she adds. A collection of candles, such as two-tone twists in a solid wash of pastel hues or a beautiful bubble shape, is a good way to experiment with colour – paired with a contemporary candlestick or placed on a stoneware plate – it’s a nod to Nordic, but with a modern take. And it’s fun.

If you have the budget, a prize piece of furniture in a sorbet shade is the perfect way to break with tradition and shake up those monochrome black and white lines, to reimagine your neutral palette. As Molly Pusey, vice president of supply, Fy! puts it: “Soft and comforting, the pastel trend allows us to introduce a subtle pop of colour to neutral spaces. Not only will it add an airy feel and complement existing white walls, but sage green is trending big time, and is one of the easiest shades to live with, no matter your style – while also being inspired by nature. And when you’ve stashed away the roller brush and it’s time to tablescape, the clitter-clatter of pastel cutlery and clink of coloured glassware to toast this pretty palette will taste that much sweeter. To set it off perfectly, dried bouquets are enjoying a ravishing revival, and look beautiful displayed in ceramic torsos, geometric vessels or modish vase bookend sets. And even if you don’t normally think pink, pale pastel grasses work like a dream against terracotta or glazed green vases. Last but not least, chances are, you’ll want to shine a light on your delightful dalliance with Denmark pastels – and what better way than with a pastel linen lampshade? Etsy has a great range, including Tropikala’s selection of linen shades, which are suitable for table lamps or ceiling lights. Words by Sam Wylie-Harris, PA

Brighten up the playground We have been treated to a hint of the sunnier days ahead, encouraging us back outdoors take in fresh air. It is a great time to consider whether the play areas in your local schools or public spaces need updating to ensure our little ones are not only entertained and enjoying themselves, but have safe and durable equipment to let loose on. We offer a wide variety of products which would be a great asset to any school or local play area, including benches, tables, play modules, decking, gates, fences and even planters. They can come in a variety of colours including purple, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, brown, black, grey and beige which removes the need for painting and staining, so you can choose your very own unique colour theme.
We have worked along side a number of schools and councils to update playground equipment. Unlike the wooden equivalent, it will not rot, split or splinter, so once purchased it will last forever saving you from the need to replace it a few years down the line. We had some wonderful feedback recently from Priory CE Primary School who commissioned us to produce a selection of brightly colour ‘beach huts’ for their playground (pictured above). Helen Brown, School Business Manager, shared with us the response from the staff and children.

“The Priory CE Primary School children are very excited to be able to play in their new ‘beach huts’, supplied and fitted by Reformed Plastics. Even during the extreme circumstances of the COVID pandemic, the project from planning through to installation went smoothly and David was able to guide us through the process. “As the ‘beach huts’ are constructed from recycled materials, this falls in line with our Eco-School Vision to improve environmental awareness in our school, local community and beyond. The ‘beach huts’ also enhance our outdoor learning environment. Using environmental actions engages, motivates and empowers our children to care for our planet now and throughout their lifetime. “We’re really pleased with the final project, but more importantly the children love them. Our aims are to help rebuild the environment by utilising a commodity which people would otherwise just throw away, turning what most would consider rubbish into a valuable product for everybody. Does it need to be cleaned? Our products only need to be cleaned after a spillage. How can you make your small garden feel bigger? TV gardener and city dweller Joe Swift offers big ideas on small spaces. TV gardener Joe Swift knows more than most about designing small gardens, given that his own back yard in Hackney, north east London, is about 50ft x 22ft by his own reckoning. The designer, author, broadcaster and RHS Chelsea Flower Show regular has included a lot of tips on how to make the most of a small urban space in Create Your Own Small Garden (Collins, £9.99), one of his new series of five expert gardening guides. “Elements like paving, boundaries, containers, furniture, water and sculpture help define its structure but the plants will always play the starring role,” he observes. Many gardeners simply want to know how to make their small outdoor space feel bigger – so here are his tips. Boost your boundary “Boundaries are very important in a small garden because as you walk out, you have to think what’s at eye level. If you see a brick wall or a fence in one go, you can see exactly where your garden finishes. “Try to disguise some of it by growing climbers, tricking the eye into not quite knowing where the boundary starts and finishes. If you’ve got a nice boundary like a nice brick wall or fancy fence, leave some of it exposed, breaking it up with planting. “But if you’ve a cheap fence or an unattractive boundary, then green it all up with climbers, which will create a lovely backdrop for everything in front of it.”

Contain your balcony “On balconies, everything has to be grown in containers, so think about practicalities. Can you carry them up in a lift? What about compost? Are you going to sit out there? Where’s the best place to sit surrounded by your plants? Or are you just viewing it from the inside? “On a lot of balconies, you’ll need tough plants that can cope with wind, such as lavenders, olive trees and gleditsia or small pines, but not things like banana plants or bamboos which will dry out in pots. Ornamental grasses will grow upright, can cope with dry and will give you a bit of screening.” Plant strategically “Try to get some planting in the foreground of your garden, rather than having a hard surface that you go straight out onto, when the plants might feel like they are in the distance. I’ve got planting pockets coming right up to my window and a simple paved area, with lots of climbers and other plants, a pond and stepping stones which lead you to a secluded deck at the back of the garden. No-one would know you’re there.”

It is repaired when needed, seamlessly welded, protected with seam sealer and a rubberised coating and then finished with high quality paints, with a three-year guarantee against corrosion.
With more of these zones likely it’s a way of future proofing classic Range Rover models. Prices start from £125,000. Available as a two or four-door, each reborn Range Rover Classic has been re-engineered with city living and longdistance driving in mind. Starting from the beginning each pre-1981 Range Rover,

The attention-to-detail doesn’t just stop there. Having restored over 400 classic Range Rovers and delivered tens of reborn Range Rover models, the interior is as special as the exterior design and engineering. Each reborn classic Range Rover has modern conveniences yet retains a nod to the car’s past. For instance, the interior seats come heated as standard and the rear seats have two headrests and three armrests. Available to be trimmed in a range of tweed fabrics and leathers, all electric windows alongside adjustable electric mirrors, and sound deadening has been added to the shell including the doors and panels.

Š KO DA A D D S S P O RTI N G ED G E TO FA B I A R A N G E ŠKODA has announced pricing and final specifications for the latest addition to the new FABIA - the Monte Carlo. The new range-topping FABIA Monte Carlo starts from £20,925 OTR. Since its introduction to the ŠKODA range in 2011, the FABIA Monte Carlo has become a firm favourite with British buyers. Originally created to celebrate the brand’s successes at the Monte Carlo Rally and the ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo from 1936, the Monte Carlo nameplate has become a permanent fixture in the line-up for more than a decade. The Monte Carlo has the largest wheels of any FABIA in the current range with 17-inch Procyon black painted diamond cut alloy wheels filling the arches. It also features new sports bumpers, along with door mirrors and radiator grille finished in gloss black, unique Monte Carlo badging and black ŠKODA lettering for the tailgate. Inside there are height adjustable sports front seats trimmed with black fabric and artificial leather, a three-spoke leather multifunction steering wheel and red metallic upper decorative trim. The Monte Carlo is available with three petrol engine and gearbox combinations. The line-up starts with a 1.0 TSI model that generates 110PS and is offered with a sixspeed manual gearbox.
S UZ U K I SWAC E – A L I K E A B L E , C O M F O R TA B L E A N D P R A C T I C A L C H O I C E When it comes to cars not everyone is after a sleek, sporty or uber-luxurious model designed for the fashion-conscious motorist. Some people just want a nice car, decent amounts of standard equipment and the space to carry the family, and capable for runs to the garden centre and maybe a bit of work-related travel in there as well. With those thoughts in mind, I have been driving a perfect candidate for the role.
three drive modes. The Swace is no performance machine, it isn’t meant to be, but has no problem nipping past slower traffic. The CVT automatic transmission occasionally becomes rather audible, it’s a trait of these systems that on hard acceleration the revs rise while the forward motion takes a second or two to catch up, but otherwise it’s a very smooth and efficient system.
Suzuki’s relatively new Swace is a comfortable and very well-equipped estate that looks smart and comes with more than a degree of practicality. Based on Toyota’s Corolla Touring the Suzuki incarnation has some subtle styling tweaks and a straightforward range of two trim levels, one engine choice and few options. Standard fare on the lead-in version includes climate, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, main beam assist, auto lights, keyless start, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, intelligent cruise control and rear parking camera. There’s no built-in navigation but you can use the maps app on your iPhone or Android smartphone.
As one might expect from Suzuki the build quality is good and there’s a general premium feel throughout, along with particularly comfortable seats. It’s fair to say that the graphics on the touchscreen do look a little dated and some of the accompanying buttons are a tad fiddly. However, the good news is there are buttons, as opposed to a touchscreen for everything, and those on the touchscreen apart they are clear and well laid out.
The 1.8-litre petrol engine is mated to a selfcharging system for the on-board battery to provide a hybrid drive that ensures low Co2 emissions, great fuel economy and

Prices for the Swace start at £27,499 and for the level of standard equipment and space represents particularly good value. It’s a very likeable, comfortable and practical choice that doesn’t stint on features and doesn’t bewilder with numerous options, largely because of the high levels of standard equipment. It makes a compelling case as a first-class family holdall.

R ENAU LT AR K ANA – A DAS H O F ST Y LE WITH TH I S N E W C O U PE C ROS SOVER Its looks more coupe crossover, think slimmed down BMW X6, and Renault’s new Arkana certainly adds a dash of style with my test model looking particularly stylish thanks to its splendid Zanzibar Blue paint finish. Prices start at £26,290 for the lead-in Iconic model, with two further trim levels and two engines, offering mild hybrid and full hybrid powertrains. The 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol unit develops 138hp and has a 7-speed dual clutch automatic, while the more powerful 1.6-litre petrol offers full hybrid and a 6-speed clutchless automatic. Standard equipment is good with all models having automatic lights and wipers, climate control, cruise, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera and navigation. My test model was the S-Edition starting at £28,590, including adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, LED lights, keyless entry and start, plus a host of safety and other kit. Oddly there’s no rear wiper, although it doesn’t seem to obstruct vision in wet weather but still a strange omission.
The Arkana’s full hybrid system allows the car to sort out when to go electric, petrol or both, and to manually select pure electric for short distances. It makes for a very easy drive with smooth transitions between electric and combustion power. This smooth and refined drive is audibly interrupted if you opt for sudden, hard acceleration, as the engine revs rise and wait for everything else to catch up. It’s a trait that isn’t unique to Renault transmissions of this type, and to be fair this is one of the better systems in this regard. Go for smooth, progressive acceleration and the Arkana will power itself away with a delightfully unruffled air. With a 107 mph top speed and 62 mph passed in 10.8 seconds it’s by no means
127
pedestrian. Despite a taller stance it handles well and rough roads did not upset the Arkana’s comfort. Inside there’s a nicely laid out, modern looking dash with buttons (hurrah!) and sensible touchscreen operations. The central touchscreen is portrait orientated, rather than the more usual landscape, and works better for it in my view. The Arkana’s style won’t be to everyone’s taste but it has real presence without the compromised looks of similar coupe crossovers. There’s a feel of quality along with decent levels of interior space. It’s definitely one that should be high on the hit list for those seeking something a little different to the conventional norm.

ROAD TEST: H Y U N D A I I 2 0 N – A ‘ P O C K E T ROCKET’ SETTING THE BENCHMARK If you have a limited budget yet want an ‘interesting’ car, what do you choose? There are many excellent superminis on the market, but arguably many are transport rather than something to raise a smile. Well, Hyundai may have the answer with the i20N. The N range is Hyundai’s sporting line up and as my previous test of the i30 N proved they are incredibly quick, well handling cars, yet retain the practicality needed for workaday usage. Hyundai’s i20 prices start from £16,500 but the N, it’s a single model, with its 204PS, 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine costs £25,220. This pocket rocket will reach 62 mph in 6.2 seconds and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. No automatic option here. There’s real sporting pedigree to Hyundai’s N range and the i20 makes for a highly entertaining drive. It’s a properly grown-up performance hatchback.
fun but in reality not really of practical use on the road. Enter some track days, which you could with the i20N, and it potentially becomes a much more useable feature. A more on-road performance feature is Rev Matching, which is effectively double de-clutching, that makes smoother, more sporting gear changes. There’s a limited slip differential to aid quicker cornering, slightly lower ride height and an excellent power to weight ratio. However, even in ‘econ’ drive mode the ride is pretty firm, but you know what you’re buying into with this kind of car. This is
Yet unlike many cars of this ilk it’s perfectly comfortable on the motorway and longer journeys. It feels very grown up inside with and doesn’t show any sign of budget cuts to fund its performance. There are some hard and scratchy plastics but it’s a much nicer interior than Ford’s Fiesta ST. Standard equipment on the i20N includes keyless entry and go, heated front seats, high beam assist, auto dipping rear view mirror, heated steering wheel, powered and heated door mirrors, air conditioning, the list is lengthy and comprehensive. I am fortunate to drive many different cars but this little Hyundai is without doubt one of the most enjoyable and memorable. In terms of equipment, performance and fun for your money it’s pretty much unbeatable.
Launch control enables you to set up for the quickest standing start possible, it’s

And you won’t find sad meat replacements or vegan cheese anywhere in the book – particularly as Hayden tried vegan feta once (“I was curious!”) and calls it “honestly the most disgusting thing I’ve ever eaten”. Instead, she found so many dishes from Cyprus and the surrounding countries are accidentally vegan, and totally delicious in their own right. “Instead of trying to replicate cauliflower cheese and make it something it’s not, it’s about finding new dishes that have been around for centuries that just happen to be plant-based,” she says – and this wasn’t a hard task at all (the book could have been “double the size, easily”).

pistachios, the tahini, vanilla and sea salt and beat until smooth.
½tsp fine sea salt 230g caster sugar
3. Place the sugar and 75ml of water in a medium saucepan and gently bring to the boil over a medium heat. Gently swirl the pan, do not stir the syrup or the sugar will crystallise. Once it starts to bubble, reduce the heat to low and leave to simmer for around 12-15 minutes, until you have a thick syrup. If you have a sugar thermometer, it needs to reach 121°C. 4. When it is ready, add the tahini mixture to the pan (you don’t want the mixture to cool down, it needs to stay in the warm pan) and quickly beat the two elements together to make a smooth paste. This is best done with a wooden spoon or spatula. Try not to overwork it, though, as this will make the halva crumbly – you only want to beat it for 30 seconds. 5. As soon as it is smoothly combined, spoon it into the lined tin and press on the remaining pistachios. Leave to cool. Once cool, cover with the cling film edges and

hours (this will depend on how warm your kitchen is), until doubled in size. 3. When the dough has risen, turn it out onto a clean surface, knock it back and roll into a rectangle about 26 x 40cm. Brush over a layer of olive oil and evenly sprinkle over the za’atar and pul biber, leaving a one centimetre border around the edges. Pat the spice mixture gently into the dough with the back of a tablespoon. Starting with a short side, roll the dough up as tightly as you can. Trim off the uneven excess bits at the end. Slice the dough into nine pieces. 4. Pour enough oil to just cover the base of a 23cm square cake tin and pop in the slices, swirl facing up. Cover and leave to one side for a second prove to double in size, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas mark 6. When the buns have roughly doubled in size, bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden. As soon as they come out of the oven, drizzle over the remaining olive oil and leave to absorb in the tin for 10 minutes before serving.

Traditional golf club thriving in a modern world The last couple of years have been a difficult period of time for the leisure industry, during the various lockdowns and restrictions it would have been easy to close the doors of the business and resign yourself to a quiet spell.
It started back in March 2020 with the beginning of a full clubhouse renovation which has seen the bar and restaurant area transformed into a modern and stylish eatery and bar. Naturally, this has boosted the food and beverage business within the club and the management have

mind, the planned course rebuilding and modernisation that has spanned the last few years approaches completion with ‘Project 125’ tantalisingly close to finishing. Jon Dry commented “It’s an extremely exciting time to have taken over here at Broadstone, it’s a wonderful club to be at and we have completed a lot of exciting projects on and off the golf course over the last few years and we have lots more to come!” Perhaps none more so than the English Amateur Championships that are being held at the Dorset Club for the first time next year. Jon continued “It’s a real honour to host such a prestigious event, myself and the members here are really excited to welcome the best golfers across the UK and show what Broadstone and the surrounding area has to offer.

on the demand the club is currently facing, “The number of enquiries we have received over the last few months is like nothing I’ve ever seen in my 20 years in the golf world! It feels like every golfer in the country is planning their getaways for the summer and naturally, the Dorset coastline with Bournemouth’s nightlife so close and our wonderful countryside on the doorstep is a brilliant place for a golf trip. We are doing all we can to host as many groups as possible, but we have such a competitive and active membership that we can only take a restricted amount of travelling golfers”. It certainly is exciting times for Broadstone as they prepare for the 2022 season and the future of golf in the area. For information on golf, social bookings or membership contact the Broadstone Club Office on 01202 692595 or reach out on Facebook, Twitter (@broadstonegc) or Instagram (@broadstonegolf) or through the website www.broadstonegolfclub.com
We are keen to use the event to engage with the Membership as well as reach out to local businesses, the community and our neighbours by delivering taster golf lessons in schools, working with charities and placing Broadstone Golf Club at the heart of the social and leisure scene in the local area.” Broadstone goes in to 2022 with a full membership and a waiting list for all applicants but is open for visitor bookings, even as a tee time at the club is becoming harder and harder to come by.
