Because The Internet
Background
Tone of Voice
The important thing to develop in this project is a clear and defined way of looking at the world, filtering it and editing what you find to fit your interests and working practice. Most successful designers have finely honed methodologies and this is your chance to really explore your own.
The design publication is required to give an insight into a design strategy and the research methodologies undertaken, therefore it should be informative with attention to detail.
Brief Develop a research methodology and find a way to communicate that. It could take the form of a meta-project, or it could be more pragmatic and grounded in reality. Apply a range of research methods in the investigation of issues, practices, practitioners and companies relating to the particular area of study.
Target Audience Potential Employers Other Creatives
Mandatory Requirements This should culminate in the design and production of a Case Study in the form of a book (or print based delivery), interactive DVD or web site.

Library of the Printed Web
Concept
Library of the Printed Web is a collection of works by artists who use screen capture, image grab, site scrape and search query to create printed matter from content found on the web. Library of the Printed Web includes self-published artists’ books, photo books, texts and other print works gathered around the casual concept of ‘search, compile and publish.’
We live in a world where we have instant access to a global resource of information. The first port of call when researching has become the Internet search engine be it for information or visual reference, transforming research into a simple click and grab action. The title of the publication refers to the true response of how we as designers get to a certain outcome ‘Because The Internet’ Through printing an entire projects Internet browsing history, it is a documentation of every process a designer takes from the initial brief to the final solution.

HTML & CSS Code
Binding
HTML and CSS code represent digital in an analogue format in a way that the data is processed. The concept of having code is important as it fully compliments the whole idea of printing the Internet.
The design publication is focused on making digital analogue and printing the internet, therefore the way the publication is bound needs to be relative to way in which the data is presented digitally. The use of multiple smaller publications that come together in a folder relates to the concept of multiple browsing windows within the Internet browsing history.

Transferring digital capabilities
Previous Leeds College of Art Degree Shows
To replicate the capabilities of web browsers such as infinite scrolling on certain blogs and sites, the publication transfers these digital capabilities by having text and image being cropped off the bottom and continuing on the top of the page, so that if they were all lined up head to toe they would create a single large blog post.
Printing HTML code on the rear of each sheet replicates the code that is behind the image we see when researching digitally, giving an insight of what goes on behind the screens for each individual web page. If all the code from each section was transferred back to digital it would physically create the analogue website the viewer can see.
Each page is a wire-frame replica of its digital counterpart, therefore if a certain image is selected it then focuses, enlarging the particular selection and fading out the rest of the image. The publication replicates sites such as; Wikipedia, Designspiration, Behance and Tumblr.

Browsing History The front cover seconds up as a contents page for the publication in the form of an Internet browsing history tab, showcasing the order in which the project had been systematically researched. This further continues and puts emphasis on the translation of digital into analogue.

Tabs The crossover from digital to analogue is further enhanced through the use of website tabs along to top of the page in replacement of page numbers as a method of finding particular searches. They provide a mechanism of opening different sections of the book in a way that tabs open different pages of the web the user is currently on.
