Previous years festivals are a good starting point for reference as they’re a guide of what has been and what is needed. 2014’s programme was very simple but well considered in regards to typographical hierarchy and how users will read it. How users interact with the programme is an important factor as it’s main purpose is to convey the key information without obvious design.
Looking at other successful nationwide design festivals is a good gauge as to what is needed to produce as collateral as well as how they approach certain design decisions.

Gird & Structure Swiss Modernism is famed for it’s strict use of grids and structure of text to perfectly form typographical hierarchy with as little design as possible. Leeds Print Festival require mass typesetting in specific orders so that the user knows who and what is on at a specific time and where therefore the Swiss are the first port of call, they perfected designing with large amounts of text without over designing or over powering the user with body-copy.

Previous Leeds College of Art Degree Shows Influenced by Swiss Modernism and previous years festivals the 2015 programme remains simple and structured with a focus on hierarchy and how the user interacts with the programme. It uses the same format as previous years with an A2 fold out programme containing a large concise schedule on the rear and a more detailed documentation on the reverse folded down programme. With the use of grids, lines and type weights a hierarchy system is created for optimal readability.

Wall Programme Vinyl Following the same structure and grid as the A2 fold out the wall vinyl offers a larger scale view of what is on offer over the course of the week long festival. With the vinyl wall being situated at the hub of Leeds Print Festival it is a vital source of information for visitors without a programme.
