Personal Professional Practice
‘I am a conceptual driven graphic designer with a strong belief that everything is done for a reason, specialising in brand identities and editorial publishing with a conscious focus on grid & layout within the printed side of design. This is my final year and last chance to really experiment and find myself as a designer whilst still remaining close to my comfort zone and without it being a huge risk. This year I have been lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to work for Creative Networks alongside Sam and Priyesh. We get to work on briefs for some pretty amazing people which in turn allows us to network and showcase ourselves as designers to a wider audience, it is a great asset to have on my creative cv. One step further is the motto for the year, the term relates to quite a few things: Firstly, last year I was fortunate enough to win ‘in book’ at D&AD New Blood but this year I want to take it that one step further, I want to win a pencil or a YCN depending on the brief compatibility. Secondly I found throughout the whole of last year I would work hard on briefs but as soon as I got to the final steps of printing and crafting I would be happy to leave it at that and not go that one step further and professionally photograph it, I would be happy to settle and photograph it in the back of the studio or corridor. One, this didn’t give my work the justice it deserved and two, it crippled me when it came to getting placements as I didn’t exactly have a portfolio of such to show because of the poor visual quality. Packaging is an area of design I haven’t yet experimented with over the duration of my studies but it’s something that affects me on a daily basis as a consumer, packaging affects my judgment on whether or not to purchase a specific product. Therefore this year I would like to tackle a couple of packaging briefs and hopefully add another string to my bow.’

How Have I Changed?

Personal Professional Practice
Context of Practice has changed the way I look at graphic design, making me more judgmental towards aesthetics in regards to style, giving me a somewhat negative view on platforms used to showcase graphic design. As well as opening my eyes to how design is perceived by some in the industry. 19th February 2015

Since the first semester I feel like my interests within graphic design have fluctuated; I am still interested in editorial design but now there is a lot more care and focus on the production side, how it feels and is interacted with. I still enjoy branding but have found myself drifting away from it due to the lack of briefs I have undertaken so far, but I feel that once I get more briefs under my belt through the remainder of the year my relationship will change. 19th February 2015
