WELCOME TO THE FIFTH ANNUAL HULL FILM FESTIVAL We invite you to join us and discover the very best in new film from around the world, with titles that are award-winning, critically-acclaimed, unashamedly independent, and a little out of left field. This year’s programme features 16 films, all Hull exclusive screenings, and we’re proud to be hosting multiple regional Premieres. The festival opens with the Yorkshire Premiere of the neo-noir Terminal, starring Margot Robbie, Simon Pegg and Mike Myers. Great foreign language drama comes to us from Iceland with dark comedy Under the Tree; Italy, for the unique fantasy / drama Sicilian Ghost Story; and Belgium, with Racer and The Jailbird combining crime and romance. There’s striking British film with powerhouse performances in The Escape and a stunning directorial debut in religious drama Apostasy. Three distinctly differing visions of American society are presented by The Miseducation of Cameron Post, The Rider and Mobile Homes. Quirky genre gems The Endless and How to Talk to Girls at Parties will compete to be your new favourite film. Bone-crunching and visceral Thai Boxing prison drama A Prayer Before Dawn offers a sharp contrast with Mary Shelley, a sumptuous biopic of the literary trailblazer. Our long-standing screening partners WeWatchFilms and Cult Cinema Sunday and their fantastic retrospective programming bring us a chic and stylish romance classic (Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and a mind-bending coming-of-age cult favourite (Donnie Darko). Our closing film, the comedy drama Lucky, is the final film of the late, great Harry Dean Stanton. Put it all together and we hope you’ll agree that this is the best Hull Film Festival line-up yet. And with great value tickets, discounts for Hull Independent Cinema members and under-25s, and daily / weekly passes you can afford to sit back and enjoy it all. We’d like to acknowledge the support this year of our host venue Vue Cinema Hull. Don’t miss the chance to join us there to enjoy films how they should be seen - on the big screen with an attentive audience. We hope you enjoy the programme we have for you this year; it’s a real pleasure to be able to share them with Hull film lovers. See you at the festival, Damien Greco Festival Director
