EUR TR/1N PROUD MEMBER OF l(l&t TAIPEI 2024

How great it is to be in this fabulous historic city, now the hub of Taiwan’s business for finance and technology. Populated by industrious and resilient people, this country is now a global player in the electronics and technology industry. Thank you so much to our hosts Eurotran, Panda and Translink for their kind hospitality.

It has been a year of accomplishments. Our work on the UFI Net Carbon Zero Workstream has been well received and highly complimented. Association’s Day in December was once again applauded by our industry. The Operations Summit in Kuala Lumpur was amazing with great delegates who were highly engaged and connected. Both the speakers and the participants left with great insight and knowledge.

Our membership has grown with the addition of 12 new members and continued interest in joining our family.

We have had a temporary set back with the IELA Academy but are not discouraged! The Academy team is continuing to work on a revised Academy programme that will meet the needs of our members and ensure that our employees are the best, most knowledgeable, professional and dedicated in our industry.

The future looks bright as we move in to the second half of the decade. Never before in the history of IELA have we had 10 candidates for our Board of Management. The candidates are all high-quality individuals dedicated to IELA and will do well for our association. With new board members comes innovation and growth!

The challenges ahead of us remain: maintaining our voice on the sustainability stage to protect and preserve our position in the transportation event field; the hiring and retention of qualified, professional staff who are looking for a career and a long-term place to grow and work; providing work-life balance in our 24/7 environment. I am confident we will continue to navigate and overcome these obstacles as we have done so in the past.

The milestones, accomplishments, and achievements we have attained are due solely to the dedication and commitment from our association Working Groups. The work of a few benefits us all. I encourage you to attend one or more of their sessions while you are here. There is greatness in numbers and all contributions are welcome and necessary for us to continue our prominence in the industry.

I must express my gratitude to both TWI and IELA as my time on the Board and with IELA comes to a close. The support and encouragement from TWI senior management has been invaluable. It has been an amazing journey and the opportunity of a lifetime. I have had the privilege to work with so many of you over the years and have learned immensely from the experience. I have grown personally and professionally and formed what I consider lifelong friendships with people from all over the globe. I have many fond memories and have nothing but great expectations and warm wishes for IELA’s future.

FINK CELEBRATES BEING 100 YEARS OLD!

Founded a century ago in 1924, FINK Mobility began its journey by consolidating donations to the impoverished victims of the World War and shipping from Brazil to Europe. It was the start of a humble transportation company growing to become a global player in the mobility sector.

In its early years, FINK Mobility primarily focused on moving services for local community’s transportation needs. FINK Mobility then diversified its business areas to include fine art and trade fairs logistics, Immigration and DSP, port operations, customs bonded terminals, cultural events and mega sports events logistics.

FINK participated in extraordinary projects like moving the government of the capital of Brazil from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia, overseeing the distribution of all school books to all Brazilian schools, (even navigating the Amazon River by canoe to remote forest villages), performing the logistics for the Terracotta Xi´an Warriors and for all mega sports events ever held in the country: for example the Pan American Games, the FIFA Confederations Cup, the FIFA World Cup & the Olympic Games.

FINK has also been extremely active in the international industry: FINK was invited to join IELA at the very beginning of the association and was one of the founders of LACMA, giving it its youngest President as well as the

first woman President. FIDI was also supported by Laura Ganon, FINK CEO on its board of Directors and as FIDI President. Additionally, FINK contributes to sustainability efforts through its participation in the IELA Sustainability Committee. In the Fine Arts arena, FINK was on the Steering Committee of ICEFAT for several years.

FINK Mobility’s longevity lies in its ability to embrace technological advancements while making people a priority. Customers, the FINK team, and the community are FINK´s primary concern. FINK Mobility seamlessly integrated cutting-edge technologies into its operations, allowing the company to stay ahead of the curve by offering innovative solutions to its clientele.

Today, the group’s key indicators reflect its success with over US$ 200 million revenue in 2023 and customer satisfaction which averaged 95.84% last year.

One of the noteworthy accomplishments of FINK Mobility is its commitment to sustainability, social and environmental. The company has implemented a comprehensive strategy to improve emissions measurements, reduce its carbon footprint and continuously enhance its eco-friendly operational practices and socially responsible initiatives. This dedication aligns with global initiatives but also enhances FINK Mobility’s brand image as a socially responsible corporate citizen.

This year, when FINK Mobility celebrates its 100 th anniversary, it chose sustainability over partying: the funds FINK would have spent to organise a party have instead been donated to ASM do Brasil, an Institution that teaches classical music, providing social and cultural education to youngsters living in very poor communities, providing many with a profession and means to earn their living. Here is the QR code to the video of the ASM Orchestra playing for FINK as thanks for the donation.

In conclusion, FINK Mobility’s journey of 100 years is a story of evolution, innovation, and adaptability. From its humble beginnings to its status as a global mobility player, the company has successfully navigated the complexities of the industry with resilience and foresight. As FINK Mobility continues to evolve, its legacy serves as an inspiration for businesses striving for longevity and relevance in an everchanging world. t

The key to FINK Mobility’s longevity lies in its ability to embrace technological advancements while making people a priority. Congratulations!

ATHENS, GREECE, APRIL 18th • 22nd

Athens, under the shade of purple wisterias

It is a real pleasure to be in Athens in the spring time, when purple wisterias bloom everywhere, making people happy with their vague scent. I once again thought it was a very good idea that we joined the veterans group.

Our first meeting on the roof was a real treat. Although Ravi, with his usual generosity, worried about whether the food would be enough, everyone seemed happy while tasting the delicious appetizers and chatting with friends they had not seen for a long time. Beinoglou, (father and son) accompanied us there too. It was an exceptional beauty to watch the Acropolis shining from a distance while we were sipping our ouzo

In the morning, we met with our sympathetic guide Fotini, passed through the streets lined with citrus trees and went to the magnificent Acropolis Museum at the foot of the hill where the Acropolis is located. We had already admired the magnificent museum building from the outside, but while watching the beautiful ancient ruins and statues inside we had to hold our breath. While our guide was telling us about the anger, competition, war and love myths of the ancient gods in the legends, we looked for traces of these events in the statues from centuries ago (BC.) So sad but some statues were only

replicas because the originals were smuggled to other museums around the world. Everyone looked very impressed, eagerly sharing their observations and showing pictures to each other during the lunch time at the museum’s nice little restaurant.

On our way back to the hotel, while passing through the important points of the city, close to Syntagma Square we saw the Arch of Hadrian and Panathenaic Stadium which is the finishing point of Athens Classic Marathon.

Our dinner date was at Strofi restaurant. The Acropolis was once again stretching out in all its majesty across from our dining table, and those at the dinner, including Junior Beinoglou, loved the delicious appetizers served one after the other. The sea-bass wrapped in grape leaves as the main course was really delicious as were the wines and ouzo served in the restaurant which was once known as the favorite restaurant of the legendary soprano Maria Callas, so everyone seemed to be very happy.

We set off early the next day, first taking a break at the Corinth Canal. To see one beautiful civil works of humanity was really impressive. We observed the 6.5 kilometre-long canal from above on that windy day, while one luxury yacht was moving slowly.

After a two hour journey, we arrived in Napflion on the Greek Riviera. Watching the the beautiful town from the ancient castle on the hill, almost everyone was taking and sharing their photos. Then, we went down to the seaside, walked around the cobblestone streets decorated with citrus trees and wisterias, did some small shopping, took pictures of the Bourzi, the Venetian Caste... Some ladies were sipping their Greek coffee waiting for someone to tell them the future...

24 IELA}}REPORT102

We met at Savouras Restaurant for lunch. The salad with feta cheese and fresh vegetables whetted everyone’s appetite, the “mezes” were all delicious, and then the baked sea-bass with sauce was served. A local elder playing his bouzouki sang beautiful songs, Junior Beinoglou tipped him for the love song he played.

The memories shared and funny stories were told on the way back to Athens. Loud laughter was heard especially around Ravi as usual.

The evening gala dinner was in one of the cute little restaurants of Athens. We met there with our old friend and dinner host Orphee Beinoglu with his beautiful wife. Orphee, who greeted everyone with his opening speech, announced that he would join the veterans group with his wife, the good news was met with applause. Two little silver elephant ornaments presented by Ravinder to father and son Beinoglous were applauded too. During the bilateral conversations that continued throughout the evening, people in the group had the opportunity to get to know each other better, and sometimes very impressive stories emerged about their past, like the one Pentti told about his childhood.

The next morning, after breakfast, we met on the roof of the hotel. Our beloved group leader Edgar delivered a speech, evaluating the Athens programme again, thanked the participants and sponsors, and said goodbye with promises to meet in Hamburg next year. t

IELA becomes proud member of JMIC

In February this year, IELA became a proud member of the Joint Meetings Industry Council. JMIC has provided a forum for information exchange, strategy development and the recognition of excellence amongst industry groups for well over 50 years. It is currently focusing on documenting and communicating the diverse values of the industry to broader community and governmental audiences in order to generate greater appreciation for its key role in supporting global economic, academic, professional and social development.

In November 2021 JMIC successfully launched the Net Zero Carbon Events Initiative to connect the event industry globally to the rapidly growing movement towards net zero by 2050.

Since 2022 IELA has been working very closely with JMIC, leading the Logistics Workstream. t

IELA at EIC: 75 years shaping the global business events industry

IELA successfully began the year 2024 by joining the Events Industry Council Board of Management, a huge industry recognition to our Association. In early March, IELA joined the first EIC Board and Council meeting in Toronto under the leadership of Sherrif Karamat (EIC Past Chair and PCMA President and CEO), Ana Maria Viscasillas (EIC Chair and President of COCAL) and Senthil Gopinath (EIC Incoming Chair and CEO at ICCA).

The EIC Council also met during IMEX in Frankfurt. More than 30 delegates, all senior leaders from their respective organisations, participated in the Think Tank, exploring Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environment (PESTLE) factors currently impacting or expected to impact the industry. The work will culminate with a Future Landscape Report, set to be released in Q4 2024.

EIC, in partnership with Oxford Economics, also released the Q1 2024 Global Events Barometer, the quarterly measure of trends in the business event industry. Most indicators point to a continued strength for the global business events industry, although various factors, including weakening economies and geopolitical tensions, have triggered a small showdown in certain regions. The forecast still remains exceptionally positive for our industry.

The Events Industry Council with more than 30 member organisations represents over 103,500 individuals and 19,500 firms and properties involved in the event industry. The EIC’s vision is to be the global champion for event professionals and event industry excellence. It promotes high standards and professionalism in the event industry with the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) programme and signature programme activities. The CMP credential is recognised globally as the badge of excellence in the event industry.

• During this tenure he along with his Education and Training Working Group team delivered online Operations Summit and physical Winter Seminar 2023 in South Africa.

• He is also winner of Face of IELA award.

• In 2023 he had launched with BOM help IELA Academy with his associate guide Karla Juegel.

• In 2023 he contributed to JMIC being a part of IELA’s logistics stream.

• Since 2023 he is also a part of Sustainability Working Group.

• In 2023 he was also re-elected as BOM.

R.E. Rogers have been major sponsors at many IELA Congresses, something which Sudhir used to initiate and support from within the company. Sudhir has attended many UFI events and is also an active member of UFI’s Sustainable Development Working Group & Offsetting Working Group.

Sudhir is also on skilling committee of Indian Exhibition Industry Association.

His role for the company during the pandemic is phenomenal. On a work-fromhome platform, he successfully converted his team of dedicated managers from exhibition logistic specialists to specialists in other related verticals in a short time period - i.e. special general and defence related freight projects. He did this by imparting training, orientation programmes, and critical workshops/seminars to enhance their skills. This created critical alternate revenue streams for the company, which in turn ensured no redundancies or even salary cuts for anyone.

At the community level, he implemented many company CSR programmes for relief activities during the pandemic.

Sudhir is married for 25 years and has one daughter. t

• You are allowed to vote a maximum of 7 candidates

Once the Voting has been completed, please return your electronic voting device to the IELA Secretariat

By following these steps, you can ensure that your vote is accurately recorded and that you have fully experienced the transparency and efficiency of our electronic voting system.

Unity in Diversity: A Journey Towards Inclusion

u Where Level 3, Platinum B

u When Wednesday, June 26th

u KEYNOTE 11:00 - 11:30

u BREAKOUT SESSIONS 11:30 - 12:30

During the session Unity in Diversity: A Journey Towards Inclusion

Sonia Thomas & Garcia Newell will drive on an informal and dynamic way the subject of DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion). Both have made significant strides in promoting DEI in the exhibition industry, with Sonia driving Women in Exhibitions and Garcia being a member of the AEO Cross Association DEI Working Group and advocating for broader social inclusion.

With the focus being on Environmental and Governance aspects of ESG, the Social component is often overlooked. DEI is not just a moral imperative-it’s a business necessity. Companies embracing diversity see better performance, closer alignment with diverse customer bases and enhanced brand reputation. Data supports this: diverse teams are more innovative, better at risk assessment and more motivated, reducing issues like “quiet quitting” and burnout.

During this session, Sonia and Garcia will explore why DEI is crucial for our industry and how it drives business success. The discussion will address the DEI policies of companies and the importance of accommodating gender, race, physical ability, neurodiversity and age. With up to five generations soon in the workforce, it’s vital to get organised now.

Smaller groups will then focus on actionable steps to promote DEI in your companies. We’ll use the IDEA framework to develop concrete measures, ensuring that we move from good intentions to tangible, impactful change.

Let’s dive into this essential conversation and work together to create more inclusive workplaces.

The Partnering Event, open to you as future IELA Members, is the annual physical Networking Event. It is designed to enhance business opportunities and provide an introduction to the association. It is the only platform that places so many exhibition logistics experts under one umbrella. IELA promises to get you under the limelight of fostering healthy business relationships. We are committed to meeting our goal of involving the majority of Global Associations who have a common business focus of International Logistics. Everyone’s ideas and contributions are most welcome and invited if we are to succeed in our mission. We cannot spell “SUCCESS” without “U”!

In line with our vision, diversity, inclusion, sustainability and safety are the strong pillars of our association. We aim to redefine the standards of excellence in the exhibition and event industry, delivering precise exhibits in a physical manner. Our mission is to create unparalleled opportunities for international networking and knowledge exchange among exhibition and event logistics experts and partners worldwide. To achieve this, we are committed to involving a majority of Global Associations with a shared focus on International Logistics.

Let us strive to build bridges of associations and a strong bonding to last for the rest of our years towards a healthy growth in our industry. Everyone’s contribution of ideas and experiences, however trivial, will go a long way in playing a major role in our global expansion. Let us use IELA as a mother platform in banking on the opportunities we will be exposed to. It’s a big wide world out there, inviting us towards greener pastures and friendly horizons.

Let us unite and move forward together. Your ideas and experiences play a significant role in our global expansion. Together, we can utilize IELA as a mother tongue for our

Once again, a very warm welcome to each and every one of you.

Together we can and we will do it!

Re-Thinking Event Logistics 2022/2023

Outcomes

We inspire people and are inspired by others every day. This inspiration impacts what we do as organisations and jolts the industry of which we are a part. The Logistics Workstream of the Net Zero Carbon Events roadmap was focused on identifying areas of developing and creating best-practice working environments to reduce the carbon emissions associated with logistics at events. This includes everything from the transportation of exhibits, exhibition materials, stands to the sourcing of materials and equipment for exhibitions.

By implementing sustainable logistics practices, we can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of exhibitions and work towards our goal of Net Zero Carbon Events In this workstream, we worked as a unit identifying opportunities to optimize logistics and transportation routes, reduce single-use plastics and other disposable materials and source more sustainable practices, equipment, products and services.

By collaborating with exhibitors, event organisers, venue owners, logistics providers and other stakeholders, we can make meaningful progress towards a more sustainable future for events.

We want to thank JMIC for trusting IELA to lead the Logistics Workstream of the Net Zero Carbon Events Initiative.

But in particular we want to thank our Logistics Workstream Partners and outstanding IELA Members who worked hard making this project come true:

Several new applications came through and the Membership WG was very active with their accurate screening and survey before sending to the Board for final approval or denial.

The screening process was accurate and fast as we are looking forward to greeting as many new members as possible in Taipei.

During the last Membership Working Group meeting we focused on a new format for the Induction Meeting for new members participating in the Taipei GA.

A preliminary brainstorm on ideas to reshape the induction meeting took place previously on April 16th with Chair, Vice Chairs and Board go-to-person Sandi Trotter.

The new format will have a Roll Call limited to first time attendees, including a video on benefits and quick cut videos on testimonials of which a tempting list has been drafted.

The future activity of the MWG will be as usual to deal with the screening of incoming applications, benefits for Members and inciting applications for membership by companies targeted among Taipei PE participants. A new mid-term project comparable to Financial Protection was finalised and is now online. t M

IELA Ambassadors play a crucial role in their country building robust bridges to National Associations, Multipliers and Press. The Working Group encourages and supports all IELA Ambassadors to approach their tasks with enthusiasm and commitment to be the voice of our industy.

Our goals as Working Group this year are:

1. To have at least one action to share with our local association per ambassador.

2. To enforce the Ambassadors Structure and maximise cooperations via MOU implementations, reviewing all our MOUs and see if we have to update any of those.

3. To identify projects bringing MOUs to life: like sharing knowledge via presentation about occupational health & safety, security, sustainable operations, etc.

4. To develop our annual event that will be: OPERATIONS DAY on December 5th 2024 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM CET inviting venue partners all over the world to discuss about their passions (as talent, safety, sustainability, mobility, AI integration, etc.) and the future of operations.

Are you ready to join us on the 2024 IRWG Journey? We can’t wait to welcome you to our brainstorm in Taipei!

Better structure, better communication, better results:

As Logistics experts we all know that when we have a route map it is easier and more efficient to achieve our goals. So we are planning on pre-booking our meetings for this year as follows:

1. We started 2024 with a kick-off meeting on February 14th, 2024 structuring the IRWG goals this year.

2. We decided to have meetings focused on one particular region so in that meeting the Ambassadors from the Region could present the outcomes of the conversations with National Associations, press, etc. so that real cooperations can thrive.

Our WG meetings have been newly structured by regional focus and function:

• EUROPE on Wednesday, April 17th

• ASIA PACIFIC on Tuesday, June 11th

• In person IRWG Meeting during the IELA Congress 2024: Strategy discussion-goals 2025 and beyond.

• AFRICA & MIDDLE EAST on Wednesday, July 17th

• AMERICAS on Wednesday, September 11th

• End of the year meeting (post OPERATIONS DAY): celebrating accomplishments on Wednesday, December 11th

The Main idea of the regional meetings is to analyse our MOUs Actions and Goals per continent. It is important to participate in all of them as we can learn or provide ideas to other regions.

3. New Event: OPERATIONS DAY on Thursday, December 5th from 2:00 to 3:30 PM CET.

We will invite Venues (Operation Directors, Operations Managers, etc.) to talk about what will change and define the Future of Operations:

• Talent

• AI integration

• OHS

• Security

• and many more

Do you have a speaker or topic in mind? Please kindly share your ideas with us, we will work together to create an enlightening event!

4. Last but not least, we are working on improving communication and more visibility due to a new Ambassadors Map that will be available soon on the IELA website (IR WG area). t

Following the last Operations Summit (OS) held in Kuala Lumpur last January, the Education & Training Working Group met twice at online sessions in March and in May.

During the first meeting, a recap of the highlights from the Operations Summit were gathered and discussed. Some of the members of the E&T Working Group attended the OS and provided some very interesting feedback based on their experience as both students and lecturers.

The E&T Working Group started work on the following topics:

• Winter Seminar 2025

As a starting point, there is a general overview from the last edition held in Cape Town and previous editions with a list of lecturers to discuss and brainstorm. Topics should take into consideration the fact that the Winter Seminar is mainly for newcomers in the industry.

JUNE 26th 13:30 - 15:00

For this reason it will be crucial to include workshops and practical sessions in order to give students the opportunity to get more comfortable with topics.

In Cape Town there were groups of students working together. They were under the supervision of a mentor assisting and boosting the discussions and presenting the daily take-aways. This type of Working Group was found to be very interesting and effective so it would be nice to repeat the same format.

• ITM

The IELA Training Manual is under implementation together with the update by the E&TWG with an additional glossary for each topic.

In Taipei the E&TWG will meet in person and finalize the list of topics with the names of possible speakers and check if any external speakers are also necessary. t

The Congress is now underway:

Are you ready to see who will win the prestigious awards for Domestic, Onsite and Export Agent for services provided last year?

The IELA Standards of Performance Survey has been carried out and we will share with you the best performing agents. If you are interested in knowing your evaluation results, the scores will be available in the IELA Private Zone once the Congress and PE closes.

Furthermore, we are also excited to let you know that the Customs File for each country has been recently updated. This time we have also added a name and date stamp to let you know who contributed to the update of the Country file and when it was updated last. This will help you in being up-to-date and you can address your questions directly to the contributors. The updated files will be uploaded shortly onto the IELA website.

We also wish to give you an update on 2 other tasks - developing the “Code of Ethics” for Survey & FAQs. These two projects still remain in the developmental stages but we hope to be able to update you soon!

During the Congress we wish to take the opportunity to ask each member about improvements they wish to see in the Survey. Are you already participating in the Survey? If yes, how can we make it better and of more use for you? If you did not take part in the survey, we really want to know the reason. Please be ready with your answers.

Lastly, we wish to announce that the S&CWG has a new chair - Ujjwal Gupta The past Chairperson, Rene, and the current Vice Chairperson, Ryu will continue to remain an integral and active part of this WG. t

Dear Friends,

We are excited to share with you the latest activity update from the Sustainability Working Group

IELA continues leading the “Logistics” Resource Centre inside the Technical Pole “Activation & Adaptation towards Decarbonisation”of the JMIC NET Zero Carbon Events project. From September to December there will be webinars organised and the members of the “Logistics” group will share their experience and lessons learnt on the implementation of sustainable solutions to decarbonize their operations.

Our Green Challenges Campaign has been completed. It was created to reinforce the interest in sustainable development and to share IELA’s commitment in the social aspect of sustainability with membership and stakeholders. We want to thank all active members for their efforts and for setting an example and inspiring others by their actions.

We are proud that in recent years numerous IELA members have already begun their sustainability journey and we would like to reward the best initiatives. We encourage all of you to participate in The IELA Smart Award which will be presented during the Congress in Taipei.

In the coming months, our focus will concentrate on furnishing support and resources to facilitate the formulation of sustainability plans and the measurement and reduction of CO2 emissions by all members. For those who need a little nudge to start, we are preparing the second edition of IELA Sustainability Guidelines which will include the action plan proposal to help the members establish their sustainability plan and the steps to follow.

The IELA CO2 measurement form has successfully passed the testing period. We are excited to share this with all the membership and we truly believe that this will help us all to estimate our onsite emissions.

If you want to know more about our further plans or you would like to add your grain of sand to create more sustainable logistics, join us at the IELA Congress in Taipei!
