BP Sunbury Business & Technology Park Research & Healthcare Sector Case Study

The redevelopment project at Sunbury is now firmly established as one of the leading sites for the environment and safety within South East England. The redevelopment was to meet the future needs of BP and provide modern, flexible office and laboratory space as a hub site in BP's global strategy. This project included the creation of new buildings to provide laboratory office and technology space designed for low energy consumption including features such as solar glazed panels all contributing to the award of an 'excellent' BREEAM rating. The work was carried out in phases to ensure that the operations of the 2,500 BP staff at Sunbury were undisturbed.

Imtech were initially appointed by Schal to carry out the mechanical, electrical and public health services in Phase One but were subsequently taken forward as a true partner from phase to phase including carrying out all works to the main water feature at the front entrance to the development.

"Now that the dust has finally settled, we would like to thank you and your team for your excellent performance on the above project which enabled us to deliver a first class building to our client.

From the outset we were all aware that this would be a difficult project due to the complex nature of the services design, changing brief, stringent Client safety requirements, and the need to squeeze a quart into a pint pot.

Throughout the project your team acted in a very professional manner and did their utmost, including re-design of many of the services where they could not be contained within the spaces available, to ensure the completion was achieved with only minimal delay.

Your works were handed over with zero defects and the final account settled within 3 months of project completion despite the huge amount of variations.

Your continued help and assistance with user training and further Client changes after hand over has resulted in total Client satisfaction." CLIENT: BP

Roche Phamaceuticals H.Q. Research & Healthcare Sector Case Study

Roche is one of the worlds leading healthcare groups. Their pharmaceutical teams in the UK had previously been scattered in numerous buildings across a number of sites and Roche required them to come together on one site. This project comprised of 21,800sq m of office facilities and a separate clinical development facility acquiring an excellent BREAM rating. A key element to the overall success of the project was extensive use of the Earn Value Analysis (EVA) process which reduced each constituent part of the project down to man hours.

This could be rigorously tracked to clarify the progress and productivity of each element of the services installation, thus pre-empting and addressing any delays before they occurred.

Working in conjunction with the professional team Imtech developed the initial budget cost plan and on an open book basis developed cost plan certainty utilising value engineering techniques to an acceptable client budget and participated in a 60/40 share of the savings with the client where purchasing savings were made against budget but delivery risk rested with Imtech. "This project has been delivered within the agreed budget and earlier than the scheduled completion date. This scheme can act as a model for future development projects and services to highlight Roche's commitment to the UK and to the development of potential new medicines that may benefit patients worldwide." Stone House Hospital - Addiction Unit Research & Healthcare Sector Case Study

Imtech were selected by HG Construction as the mechanical and electrical services design and build contractor for the construction of new Addiction and Rehabilitation, Continuing Care and Learning Disability Units at Stone House Hospital, Dartford. The mechanical and electrical systems were relatively straight forward however the design and installation of the services required a great deal of thought and co-ordination to ensure that building complied with the clients antiligature requirements. Imtech utilised under floor heating in patient areas to avoid radiators, specially selected sanitary ware to avoid potential areas of harm, anti-ligature grilles were used on the ventilation system and all equipment has been fitted with anti-tamper screws including thermostats and all electrical equipment. The unit was deliberately designed to provide a light airy pleasant feel to avoid the traditional environment of a functional mental health unit.
