Westfield, White City Shopping Centre Retail Sector Case Study

Westfield White City development is a brand new shopping centre that opened the end of October 2008 it has 306 tenants, 46 eateries, 4,500 car parking spaces all under one roof. It is the largest inner city shopping centre in Europe. The total project value including infrastructure works is £1.7bn.

The project comprised of predominately mechanical air systems for shopping malls, fire rated kitchen extracts, tenant extract and smoke extract systems. In addition to this we installed the domestic water systems including, trace heating and insulation to the condensing water. Plant handling was carried out to all our plant and the Westfield AHU's

Plant supplied and installed comprised of 57 packaged plant smoke extract fan modules, 61 dry air coolers on stand alone steel work, 37 packaged pant kitchen extract AHU's, water tanks boosters sets for site and anchor stores.

“I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you, John and Kevin for your company’s performance, commitment, professionalism and dedication in completing a quality mechanical installation on behalf of Westfield at our landmark project at White City.

We are extremely proud of what we have constructed here in what is the largest urban retail complex in the UK if not the world and indeed we have all raised the bar for others to follow. We would also commend you in completing the project on time for the opening at the end of October 2008.

I would like to say that you have once again demonstrated your ability, knowledge and flexibility and you have certainly exceeded our expectations in the delivery of the mechanical systems to us, whilst at the same time working under tough and demanding program conditions and yet still maintaining a quality installation to the end.

We hope that with the successful achievement of the completion of this project you will go on to develop what has been a successful partnership with the wider Westfield project portfolio.” CLIENT: Westfield Shopping Towns Ltd CONSTRUCTION MANAGER /CONTRACTOR: Westfield Shopping Towns Ltd CONSULTING ENGINEER: Silcock Dawson and Partners QUANTITY SURVEYOR: Westfield Shopping Towns Ltd PROJECT VALUE: £23,500,000

Fenwick Department Store Retail Sector Case Study

The Fenwick department store is located on Bond Street one of the most prestigious shopping areas in London. The store is renowned as being primarily a Ladies High Fashion Retailer, although it does also cater for Menswear and Children’s gifts.

Unlike most high street names the Fenwick Store is still family owned and this development is just one of several throughout the country that also includes the Bentalls Chain. The store underwent not only a section redevelopment of its existing floor plan, with no loss of trade, but also increased its trading area by approximately 30%. This was achieved while maintaining a fully operational store.

Although the focal point of this project centred upon the trading floors a great deal of Imtech's work was focussed on replacing and enhancing approximately 50% of the store's major plant while maintaining an operating environment. In addition to the Retail environment Fenwick also constructed a five storey executive office block that overlooked New Bond Street, all services within this area were independent to the store.

"Just a short communication to say a "BIG THANK YOU" to you all. Each and everyone of you have put in a tremendous amount of hard work, a lot of effort and an enormous amount of time to deliver the completed project. The store looks fabulous you should all be very proud of what has been achieved in somewhat difficult circumstances - a great team effort. The Chairman's PR event last night for all the store suppliers and guests seems to have been a great success. The last 6 - 8 weeks have been particularly torturous - but snagging completion periods always are painful !! Anyway a quick check off review meeting next week and we should be there. Once again well done. Andy Behan Senior Project Manager Fenwick Limited
