PROJECT OVERVIEW
Godean Market is a traditional market that is located in Sleman, DIY. This market is famous for its eel culinary as a souvenir. In this competition my team was expected to strengthen market’s values as traditional market, as well as its potential as a tourist destination. participated in designing process, including developing concept, composing architectural diagrams, and making 3D models.

Main Issues
In this project, firstly we define what are important issues and needs of Godean Traditional Market:
Zoning Sequence
Design Concept Mapeken
To re-design interior layout into a more organized layout. In order to achieve that, defining zone based on selling items and main function is an important thing to do.
Sequence and circulation inside the market shall be re-organized so that the way-finding will be easier for market visitors.
Culture
Godean Market is aimed to be tourism center in the future. The design of new building shall represent local culture of Central Java. It is also proposed to be a new icon for Sleman.
Additional Function
The existing building still has not provide the space for new proposed functions such as communal space, sport center, food courts, etc. To support future Godean Market as tourism center, new attractive functions shall be developed.
Design Approach
Market means peken in Javanese languange. Therefore, Mapeken means “to gather”.
Future Godean Traditional Market is expected to be an organized market while at the same time an attractive and iconic tourism center in Sleman, DIY. In other words, my team proposed that Godean Traditional Market will be a good public place for people to gather and do various activities, not only a place to buy their needs.
Strengthen its Values
Celebrate Sleman’s identity
Clarify the merchant’s zone, create a more proper and cleaner market without reducing the market’s values (guyub, unique, prasojo)
Emphasize Sleman’s identity, Sinom Parijotho Salak on the design.
Accentuate Roofing System (Pernaungan)
Celebrate roof as an important element of the building. Javanese architecture deeply appreciates the existence of roof as building’s crown.

Future Godean Market was expected to have 4 faces since it is located in a lively area where residential and commercial area coexist.
