ta. Fe is the resort haven of Bantayan Island.

It resembles Boracay in many ways. Its endless white-sand beach strips, swaying coconut trees, and soothing sound of gentle sea waves. However, the calm atmosphere of Sta. Fe fades during Holy Week. Lights, Camera and Action take over the island. It transforms into a stage of party people and party music. The only festive celebration of Lent happens here at Sta. Fe’s Sugar Beach Resort.

산타페는 반타얀 섬의 리조트 천국이다. 끝없이 길게 펼쳐진 백사 장과 흔들거리는 야자수 나무들, 부드러운 파도 소리는 이곳을 보 라카이를 닮았다고 한다. 하지만, 성찬식 기간 동안에는 이 조용함 은 사라진다. 조명과 카메라와 활동이 섬을 차지한다. 이곳은 파티 를 즐기는 사람과 음악의 무대이다. 슈가 비치 리조트에서는 산타 페에서 유일하게 성찬식 맞이 파티가 열리는 곳이다.

Aside from being the center of economy and trade, people visit the municipality of Bantayan for a special reason. To witness the most colorful parade of saints.

Bantayanons (native of Bantayan Island) call it “Pasus”.

Life-sized images of Jesus, Mother Mary, Joseph, and other important icons are placed on top of “carozas”.

These Pasus were hand-sculpted by artisans in Spain in the 1800s, then entrusted to prominent families in the island for safekeeping. 경제와 무역의 중심지라는 것 외에도 사람들이 반타얀 자치구를 찾 는 특별한 이유가 있다. 반 타얀 사람들이 “파수스”라고 부르는 성인들의 화려한 퍼레이 드를 눈에 담으려는 목적이다. “카로자스(바퀴가 달린 받침대)” 위에 실제 크기의 예수, 성모 마리아와 요셉을 비롯한 주요 인물 상들이 전시된 채 행진을 한다. 이 파수스는 스페인의 장인들이 1800년 대에 손수 만들고 이 섬의 유명 가문들에게 위탁했다.

About 26 km from Santa Fe and 15 km from Bantayan lies the countryside of Madridejos. Lush shades of green, never-ending mountain views envelope travelers as they drive by. Only a few people know about this town’s hidden wealth. Green is not the only prominent color in Madridejos. The best-kept secret of them all is gold. Since I’m into glamour photography, I do more edgy fashion shoots & add other objects to the composition not just human as main subjects, a little bit on de-saturated colors than saturated.

당신에게 사진이란 무엇입니까?

Photography has played a controversial but an important role in the arts for the last 150 years. The question still remains whether photography is an art or a new form of documentation seen by the eye instead of the mind.

I’ve been hooked for the call of passion. 사 진이라는 것은 논쟁의 여지가 있기는 하지만 지난 150년간 예술 에서 중요한 역할을 해왔습니다. 사진이 새로운 형태의 예술인지 아니면 감정 대신 눈으로 본 것을 새로운 형식으로의 기록인지는 아직도 의문입니다. 그 열정의 부름에 빠져버렸지요.

How will you describe your style? What is the unique “Joseph Ong” signature in photographs? 당신의 스타일은 어떤가요? 조셉 옹의 사진의 특별한 것은요?

패션 사진을 시작하면서 좀더 뚜렷한 패션 사진을 시도하고 인물 이외의 다른 물체를 주제로 구성하려 합니다. 그리고 색을 풍부한 것보다는 조금 채도를 낮추려 하지요.

How do you prepare for photo shoots? 사진 촬영을 어떻게 준비합니까?

I just make sure that all my equipments are always ready for action. STYLE LOUNGE at the LOFT 섬의 성찬식 성찬식

“Dressed up, stylized, and photographed.” 잘 차려입고 꾸미고 사진의 주인공이 된다.

With top designers, make-up artists and photographers under one roof, everything is possible.

The Style Lounge at Loft last Feb. 16 recreated the glitz and glamor of fashion. Average Joes and Janes were given a taste of the fast-paced swerve of living in style. With 10 minutes makeovers by Jessie Glova and on-the-spot photo shoots by Joseph Ong, one night was not enough. The crowd kept pouring in as the music went on rockin’.

The event was made possible by The Style Firm, headed by Dexter Alazas. Hosted by Chassy of Monster Radio and covered by RCTV’s VJ Nikki Taylor.

최고의 디자이너와 메이크업 아티스트 그리고 사진가들이 한자리 에 모인 곳에서는 모든 환상을 실현하는 것이 가능하다. 지 난 2월 16일 로프트의 스타일 라운지는 패션의 화려한 매력을 발견하는 자리였다. 평범한 사람들이 이곳에서 일상 스타일에서의 일탈을 맛보았다. 10분 동안 제시 글로바가 메이크업을 하고 조셉 옹이 사진 촬영을 했다. 흥겨운 음악이 계속 되는 한 사람들은 몰 려들었다. 하룻밤만으로는 부족했다. 이 행사는 더 스타일 펌에서 주최하였으며 덱스터 알란사즈의 지 휘와 몬스터 라디오의 채시가 진행을, RCTV의 신인 니키 테일러 가 상황 진행을 맡았다.

What’s in Cebu Lent

Wednesday Ashes to Sunday Joys 재의 수요일에서 즐거움의 일요일까지 40 days and 40 nights 40일의 낮과 밤 No work. Holiday premium. Family time plus the sweet treat of a huge pot of binignit- a warm root crop and fruit stew made of coconut milk and sugar. Traditions and practices celebrated with much fanfare and frenzy. These are the things I look forward to the most, come Holy Week.

The excitement of Easter fills the air regardless of the anticipation. From students overjoyed with the “no classes” notion to devout Catholics adhering to the customs of this 40day observance of Christ’s passion.

Holy Week in Cebu is a combination of native and modern day touches. A week packed with a series of religious ceremonies.

It starts on Ash Wednesday, when people flock to church to have the symbol of the cross on their foreheads, and ends with a joyful celebration on Easter Sunday.

Back then, my parents would drag me and my brothers to attend the blessing and distribution of palms. Church altars are decorated with leaves rather than flowers. As the blessed palms are sacramental, we keep them in our homes, customarily placing them on the front doors.

A custom on Maundy Thursday that I haven’t tried yet is called “Visita Iglesia”. Pilgrims show acts of adoration before altars from one church to another.

Good Friday, the apex of the Lenten celebration, is commemorated with solemn processions and prayers.

Devotees head over to the mountains of Good Sheperd in Banawa occupied by life-sized statues of the Stations of the Cross while the “Siete Palabras” – the seven last words of Jesus – is aired on the radio.

After 3 o’clock in the afternoon of Good Friday, my grandparents would proscribe us from making noises, bathing and staying outdoors. Lest accidents may happen considering that it’s the hour after His death.

Easter Sunday builds up into a glorious pealing of church bells for the pre- dawn “Sugat”. It’s a re-enactment of the Risen Christ’s meeting with His Mother. I had to wake up early and managed to stifle yawns in between the Easter mass.

Anyhow, no matter how one observes the season of Lent whether it is through processions and prayers, fasting, selfflagellation - it helps to know why we do it in the first place.

Lent is the time to pay homage in memory of Him. To know the truth about his sacrifices and to appreciate Him more.

휴 무는 휴일의 특권이다. 가족과 함께 하는 시간은 넉넉한 비니그 닛 - 야자수의 수액과 설탕으로 만든 과일과 뿌리채소류로 만든 스튜 -과 함께 즐거움이 배가된다. 전통 의식을 화려하고 열정적 으로 거행한다. 이래서 나는 수난 주간을 기다린다. 휴강 덕분에 놀거리가 많은 학생이나 예수의 40일간의 고난을 따 르려는 독실한 가톨릭 신자나 부활절은 참여도에 상관없이 즐거 움이 가득하다. 세 부에서의 고난 주간은 토착적인 면과 현대적인 부분이 혼합되 었다. 한 주 내에 연속된 종교 행사가 열린다. 이 주의 시작은 재의 수요일이다. 이 날 사람들은 교회에 모여서 그들의 앞이마에 십자 가 상징을 (재를 이용해서) 만든다. 그리고 이 주의 끝은 즐거움이 가득한 행사가 열리는 부활절의 일요일이다. 그때 당시에 나의 부모님은 나와 남동생을 종려나무를 축복하고 나눠주는 곳으로 데려갔었다. 성당 제단은 꽃보다는 나뭇잎으로 장식을 한다. 축복을 받은 종려나무는 신성하다고 해서 집의 문에 달아놓는 식으로 보관을 한다. “비시타 일그레시아”라고 불리는 세족식의 목요일 행사는 아 직 체험해보지는 못했다. 순례자들은 성당을 다니면서 제단 앞에 서 예배를 한다. 사 순절 행사의 정점인 성 금요일은 엄숙한 행열과 기도로 기념한 다. 열성적인 신자들은 실제 크기의 십자가의 길 상을 보기위해서 바나와의 굿 쉐퍼드 산으로 향한다. 그 동안 라디오는 “시에테 팔 라브라스” - 예수의 마지막 7 메시지 -를 방송한다. 할아버지는 성 금요일의 오후 3시 이후에는 소란을 피우거나 목 욕을 하거나 밖에 다니는 것을 금지하곤 했다. 예수가 죽은 시간 이후에 사고가 발생하지 않을까 했던 것이다. 부활절 일요일은 “수갓”이라는 이른 새벽부터 퍼지는 성당의 종소리로 시작한다. 이는 부활한 예수가 그의 어머니를 재회하는 날이다. 이 날 일찍 일어난 나는 부활절 예배에서 하품하는 것을 참느라 고생했었다. 사 순절은 그 기간에 행진과 기도를 하거나 단식을 하거나 스스로 채찍질 하든 간에 상관없이 일련의 행사들을 왜 하는지 이해하는 데 도움을 준다. 사순절은 예수에게 경의를 표하는 시기이다. 그의 희생에 관해서 그에게 좀 더 감사하기 위함이다.
