From The

Publisher

Often I am asked why I started In Light Times. My journey into publishing began when I and another person created a publication called Namaste in 1988. It went well for seven months before we ended up selling it in July of that year. Afterwards, I spent my days collecting cans for recycling, going to classes on “Universal Laws” and just kicking back for the next six months. It was a freedom I had not experienced before and it was exhilarating to say the least. This lifestyle, however, was short lived as I soon started running into people who kept encouraging me to start another publication … the person who bought Namaste had changed its direction. Of course, I wasn’t having any of it…I knew the work that was involved. As time went by, Spirit kept putting people on my path and at a gathering someone posed the question again, “When are you going to start another paper?”

We are expanding and are pleased to announce the latest member to the ilt family…

Albie Alexander

I guess you could say that I had had it and under protest told everyone, I’ll do it if these five conditions were met. Well, within one week, Spirit fulfilled four of the five and the fifth was completed during the following week. Thus, In Light Times was born on February 15, 1989 with the first printed copy hitting the streets in April and the rest is history. I believe people, worldwide, are searching for their niche on this planet…a place where they can make a difference. The age old questions, “What is my purpose?” “What are my dreams?” “How may I be of service?” are continuously being asked. Know that these are all important questions and can only be answered by you. I knew from the age of 15 that I wanted to be a writer. Twenty-two years later, that goal was realized. I became a publisher and editor of first Namaste and now In Light Times. My dreams have been actualized and I am following a career that I dreamed of so many years ago. I love what I do; the people I meet and befriend, the lessons that come to me from so many sources. It is not an easy road I assure you; however, it is a rewarding path…one I chose as I entered this world.

Albie will be working hand in hand with us as we move forward to bring In Light Times to a larger audience. With over 30 years experience as an advertising consultant, Albie will play a major role in the expansion.

So my friends, I encourage you to renew your dreams, update them and walk into your destiny. The signs are all around and trust me, Spirit wants to fulfill them. Are you ready?

We are confident that once you meet him, you will have met a friend. Albie will help provide exposure for you and your business…it’s what he does.

Take care and many blessings be yours this day.

So, on behalf of Eugenia and myself…Welcome Albie, let the adventure begin!

echarge Your Battery What happens when you feel like your battery is dead and you just can’t go on? Do you give up and say, “Oh well, I didn’t want to go to that destination anyway.” or, “That’s just my luck. I’ve never been able to reach my goals.” At one time or another, most of us seem to run low on energy. This happens when things aren’t going the way we expected or we have worked too long and too hard without achieving our desired results. This is a critical time. This is not the time to give up. It is the time to take a break, go to the spa, go home and not answer the telephone or the door, go on a drive in the country, walk in the grass barefooted, have a picnic with someone really special, or go on vacation. Whatever you do, make sure it is something you enjoy. Your brain needs time to process everything that is currently going on without any additional input.

F

ind Ways to Express Your Uniqueness When you are able to express your uniqueness, you will feel more complete. Learn to accept yourself for who you are and focus on what you want to become. There’s no one else exactly like you. You are one very special individual who was created to be who you are – doing the best you can each day to get the best results life has to offer. Learn to love yourself with all your strengths and all your weaknesses. Remember, weaknesses provide you with opportunities for growth. Respect yourself. Your primary responsibility is your own physical and emotional well-being. When you are true to yourself and learn to take care of you, your self-respect will grow. We have so much more to offer the world than just a shadow of ourselves. Give up old hurts and old scars. Give up negative thinking. Keep forgiving yourself for any mistakes you have made. Congratulate yourself for taking risks. Give up your negative self-image. It will keep you from achieving the success you want and deserve.

Y

our Behavior is Consistent With Your Thoughts You are who you are right now because of your past thoughts about yourself. You can deliberately become who you want to be by changing your thoughts. We change our thoughts by changing our mental pictures. Put a picture in your mind of you at your best. Clearly visualize how you would stand, walk, talk, dress, and behave if you could be who and what you really want to be. Visualize yourself as someone people notice, want to get to know, want to please, and with whom they want to enjoy either a personal or professional relationship. Hold that picture in your mind and start to act “as if” you already are that person. Stand the way that person would stand. Walk and talk the way that person would walk and talk. Dress and behave in the same manner as the ideal picture in your mind. See yourself as having the attributes and qualities of your ideal self. Live them as if you have them! Quit being and seeing whatever you think you are now and start being and seeing only what you want to be. And guess what? By assuming the role you wish to become, one day you’ll realize you really are that person. What has helped you become what you really want to be?

All How You Look At It

Intellectually, I don’t understand life. But I understand joy, an experience that proceeds from the heart and the spirit rather than the mind. When I keep my tuner set on the frequency of inner peace, my life has meaning. “Dog” is “God” spelled backward. I’ll just chew on that for a while. I have been a vegetarian for many years for all kinds of reasons: health, morality, energy, ecology, and on and on. I don’t think everyone should be a vegetarian, and I have never proselytized. I think everyone should follow their own body’s guidance toward food that works for them. I just know what works for me. When Dee and I grew a family of dogs, we decided to feed them meat. That was a big decision for us, since we had never had meat in the house. But we love our “kids,” and we want them to be happy. Why impose our diet on them? So we buy them canned dog food and cook meat for them. Then our vet recommended we get our dogs a certain type of bone to chew on, which helps to keep their teeth clean. Again we had resistance, since meat on bones is even grosser than meat wrapped in cellophane at the grocery store. But we did it. The dogs loved it like cats love catnip! They spent hours gnawing on the bones and hiding them in the backyard. Some of the bones resurfaced time and again over months, looking like ancient relics, and likewise treasured. Every time I saw the blackened, decayed artifacts I would grit my teeth. Gross. Yesterday we got the kids a new shipment of bones. This morning I came downstairs after meditating, and found all the dogs lined up in a neat line on the lawn, each chewing on their new treasure, all in a state of total delight. This time, however, perhaps because my mind was at peace after meditating, my reaction was completely different. Instead of reacting against their carnivore behavior and judging it, I took delight in their delight. The dogs were exuding extreme joy, and I felt that with them. Somehow the frequency on my tuner of perception had shifted, and I met them on an entirely different level of experience, far more pleasing than upset or resistance. I sat for a long time watching and enjoying. What a difference.

Miracles represent shifts in perception, so we might say that I experienced a miracle. I moved from a terrible world of predation and fear to one of inner peace. For a long time I have struggled with the notion of predation. I would stand on a hill looking at the ocean, viewing a magnificent peaceful vista, inspiring by all accounts. Then I considered that at this very moment billions and trillions of sea animals were eating each other, big fish attacking little fish, and bigger fish attacking the big fish. What a horrible universe! I have rarely been able to resolve predation with my pacifistic view of life. Yet as I watched the dogs enjoying their bones, I recalled a Course in Miracles lesson: “Let all things be exactly as they are.” Letting things be as they are yields more peace than resisting. Try as I might, I will never get ocean (or land) creatures to stop eating each other. On some level that is a natural order. I don’t understand it or agree with it. But God didn’t ask for my understanding or agreement on lots of things. The universe has its own idea of how it’s supposed to be…regardless of my opinion. Then I consider the great and powerful animals who live on grasses. Horses, cows, and elephants maintain large, muscular, healthy bodies simply by eating grass. They are the most peaceful in the animal kingdom. I hear “experts” tell us how much animal protein we humans need, and I laugh. No one told the elephant. Each of us, in our own way, must come to peace with what we are and they way things are. Conditions and situations do not weaken you. Resistance does. Saying “this should be otherwise” wears down your batteries and fixes blinders on your vision. Shifting your attention to what empowers you recharges your batteries and expands your vision. “A mind is like a parachute — it functions only when open.” Allowing things to be the way they are does not mean that you do not seek change or that you must condone abusive situations. There are plenty of

things in our individual and collective lives that could use improvement. A fatalistic attitude is as damaging as a resistant one. So change what is not working or could be better, but do it from a sense of vision and joy about what could be rather than a sense of damning what is. What you condemn you continue. Focus on where you want to go rather than what you want to get away from. Intellectually, I don’t understand life. But I understand joy, an experience that proceeds from the heart and the spirit rather than the mind. When I keep

my tuner set on the frequency of inner peace, my life has meaning. “Dog” is “God” spelled backward. I’ll just chew on that for a while. Venus Transit & Our Search for Sacred Love The

The Venus Transits are a rare celestial phenomenon that occurs twice over an eight-year period, every 113–130 years, when the planet Venus transits over the Sun, eclipsing some of its light for over six hours. The first Venus Transit (eclipse) this century was on June 8th, 2004, the second Venus Transit will occur on June 5th, 2012, from about 3:10pm– 9:50pm Pacific Daylight Time. This transit will be visible in North America, Hawaii, western Pacific, north Asia, Japan, Korea, east China, Philippines, New Zealand and eastern Australia. Historically, whenever Venus has eclipsed the Sun, there has been a major breakthrough in communications. For example, at the time of the last Venus eclipse, in 1874, the Transatlantic Telegraph Cable was completed which created the first intercontinental communication by wire between the East and the West. For the first time in human history, we could communicate with someone on another continent, in real time. Today, we have easy access to global communications for the masses, through the Internet and satellite systems. Our ability to communicate with each other worldwide is continually developing and expanding. The questions now become: “What are we communicating… love or fear?” and “How is our media (the Internet, computer games, the movie industry, cell phones, etc.), affecting society as a whole?” Astrologically, Venus represents our relationships with others. Successful relationships are those with good communications, mutual respect and consideration for one another. These good qualities create foundations from which we can build positive, peaceful relationships and begin to heal perceived wounds and conflicts.

Divine Feminine Awareness

The Venus Transit, on June 5th, will occur while Venus is in Retrograde. This retrograde motion, combined with other powerful celestial alignments, supports an awakening of the Divine Feminine energies in all of us. This

Venus Transit occurs the day after a Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse…igniting the emotional potency of this significant celestial alignment. This transit brings an emphasis on developing deeper, more intrinsically meaningful qualities in our relationships. These qualities include healthy self-worth, intimacy, trust, unconditional love and compassion. At the time of this transit, the planet Neptune (the higher octave of Venus) is transiting the sign of Pisces (the sign that rules Neptune). When a planet transits the sign that it rules, it has increased personal influence in our lives. This infuses spiritual energy into this Venus Transit, inspiring intrinsic desires for Sacred Love.

A Question of balance

The Venus Eclipse of the Sun is a call for us to open our hearts. It’s time to recognize the deeper value of our feminine qualities and the importance of maintaining balance in both our masculine and feminine energies. Venus represents the heart and ‘Anima’ (feminine side) of our psyches. The Sun represents our individuality and the ‘Animus’ (masculine side) of our beings. Venus eclipsing (transiting across the front of) the Sun symbolizes our need to consider the feminine expression first, before the masculine, and to allow the feminine energies to guide and balance our masculine expression. The patriarchal organizations of the world have repressed most of the feminine wisdom of the world. Over the past eight years, information about the accomplishments and wisdom of significant and powerful women has been revealed that recognizes the truth of how women have affected our history. For example, the books, The Expected One, The Book of Love, and

PAGE 8 • june, 2012 • IN LIGHT TIMES

The Poet Prince, by historian Kathleen McGowan, reveal the truth about Mary Magdalene, Matilda of Tuscany and Joan of Arc. It is time for the pendulum to swing back towards the Divine Feminine and rest comfortably in the middle. To become whole, we need both the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine energies to be equally expressed in our lives. As the Divine Feminine energies emerge and infuse with human consciousness, it awakens and expands compassion in our hearts. Compassion awakens our ability to feel safe and to express unconditional love. Unconditional love is supported by seeing the Divine in others and acting in integrity with love. To love compassionately, without expectations, demonstrates the highest form of love that a human can express. This kind of love supports our healing, the healing of others and our personal evolution. One of the keys to accessing Divine Feminine healing energy is forgiveness. Only when all is forgiven, will higher love be available to us. We must forgive others, and ourselves, for all perceived wrongs. This will liberate us from the bondage of our emotional pain. Forgiveness is a key to releasing ourselves from the past. This allows us to become empowered and to live fully in the “now.”

creativity awakens!

Venus represents the creative and artistic sides of our natures. This Venus Transit is catalyzing previously hidden, latent, artistic talent and creative abilities. The world needs creative solutions, feminine wisdom and love to heal. These energies will continue to increase, even after the transit is complete. Many people who had believed that they were not artistic are awakening their creativity and discovering hidden talents. For example, many people who have never played a musical instrument may suddenly feel a desire to express themselves through music. Some will want to join the local acting clubs and so on. Artists will discover new genres and modalities through which they

can express themselves more deeply and meaningfully.

uncovering secrets in relationshipS

Again, communication is a key factor in all of our personal, business and international relationships. This Venus Transit is calling for deeper honesty in relationships. Since the Venus transit from 2004-2012 coincided with the Uranus in Pisces cycle, and the recent ingress of Neptune into Pisces, communications between humans will develop on intuitive levels. The Neptune in Pisces cycle will heighten intuitive awareness of our hidden emotions and desires, as well as awareness of our partners’ hidden emotions and desires. Eventually, we will no longer be able to, or need to, hide our true feelings from each other. In time, we will develop total trust and love for each other.

the shadow of venus

From an astrological perspective, Venus represents the emotional energies in our relationships with others. When Venus eclipses the Sun, it blocks some of the Sun’s light and exposes the dark side of Venus, which represents the shadow side of our emotional natures. The Venus Transit, on June 8th, 2004, began an eightyear process of uncovering the shadows in our emotional relationships. These shadows are the unresolved, repressed emotions that unconsciously cause dysfunctionality and unhappiness in our relationships. They cause us to behave in ways that undermine our relationships, block intimacy, and cause breakdowns Continued Next Page 24 *

Flow

Going With The ÷

We get to choose what kind of day we’re going to have as well as how we’re going to let life’s events control us. Do we let them pull us down into our own self-created hell or do we take a stand within ourselves and say no?

W

ater…it doesn’t struggle to conquer the steep uphill battle it sometimes finds itself up against it. It will always flow smoothly, following a path that moves it effortlessly around any obstacles placed in it’s way. The large boulder is no match for the sure and steady flow of water. It simply splits and moves around it, until it meets itself again on the other side, surrounding the boulder, but not necessarily overcoming it. Eventually, the boulder may become a part of the flow. The two have learned to work together. Water carries within itself the history of its flow. It takes a piece of every place it’s been and carries it along. Some items become stuck along the shore, while others remain flowing in the steady stream. The items that become stuck, may find a new home, but remain close to the flow. Some cling tightly to their newfound bank of security, while others let go and become subject to the whirling pools of the endless journey. Water is emotional and moody and our human emotions bare a striking resemblance. Try to contain us for too long and we’ll desire freedom; releasing ourselves with whatever force is necessary to obtain our goal. The one lesson water has tried to teach us is to stop constantly trying to flow up a steep hill. But what if our path leads us to a mountain? Aren’t we suppose to climb these mountains to gain knowledge, strength and experience? How do we accomplish this if we always flow along the easiest path? Water doesn’t flow straight uphill, but it does find valleys and paths along the way. A slight incline is not going to stop a strong steady flow and water understands a sudden, steep incline could stop it dead in its tracks. Water is interested in a happy ending; a place to quietly pool and rest. This is another thing humanity and water have in common, but water has learned the mystery of the mountain…to find the valleys and paths that lie “inside” the difficult journey. The nooks and crannies that move us over the mountain, don’t require scaling the steep wall. This is the secret; lessons will be as intense as our emotional

By Angel Shadow © copyright 2010

reactions allow them to be. So we can scale the wall or find our nook and cranny. Either way, the mountain will come eventually. We have to take life as it comes. Not trying to control or force issues, but find our own personal path that will lead us to the other side of our mountain. For some, this will mean putting on those spiked hiking boots and tackling the rocky, steep incline. For others, it’s the nook and crannies that lie beside or through that steep hill. It’s a personal choice and one that has to be made consciously if we are to succeed. We get to choose what kind of day we’re going to have as well as how we’re going to let life’s events control us. Do we let them pull us down into our own self-created hell or do we take a stand within ourselves and say no? The scene can be re-written at any time. We simply have to believe in the new ending. The ending that will eventually lead to the happiness we seek. Our quiet pool after a long flow of events and an ending that heralds a new beginning. A new doorway that leads to a hallway with even more doors. Choices. Decisions. All of our making. We have to trust ourselves that we know how to make the right choices and recognize the opportunities as the present themselves. What lies behind door #1? Door #2? We’ll never know unless we find the courage to open them and find out. No matter what, the experience gained will be beneficial to our growth or it wouldn’t have been presented to us in the first place. There are no mistakes. Regret is a word that should be removed from the vocabulary of life. All doors, even if they lead to a dead end, have an opportunity for growth. A shut door can be reopened if we decide to remove ourselves from that particular path. You can always move back into the hallway of life and choose a different door. Like water, we flow in and out of these doors. Moving around obstacles and making choices. Finally, we find ourselves standing before a ship. A ship we ourselves created through free will and determination. A ship that will carry us “on” the water, not confined “inside” its flow. We rise above and control our course. We stand firmly at the helm and as we take control of the wheel, we look ahead to a new horizon. My ancestry is Irish and Cherokee Indian and I have a gypsy spirit that refuses to be fenced in. I am definitely not a conformist. Much of my life was spent under the control of others. I have now found my own personal freedom, based on my own personal truth and nothing could be more liberating.

Enlightenment…

By Michael Neill

Animal Style

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”

E

-Confucius

nlightenment is often talked about as a mystical, rarely attained state, but in my experience it can be a nearly daily occurrence — those wonderful moments in which you recognize that you’re more than a physical body and your life is about something other than the continual pursuit of bigger, better, and more.

The following story is my version of an old Hindu myth of enlightenment and discipleship. While the story traditionally ends with the lion’s roar at the lake, I decided to see what might happen next.

The Lion Who Thought He Was a Sheep O

nce upon a time, there was a baby lion who was born into the world alone and afraid. A family of sheep found him in their home in the green grassy valley at the bottom of the mountains one day, and because he was so beautiful and because they were so kind, they decided to raise him as one of their own. It was his sister, who had a highly developed sense of irony, who suggested they name him ‘Leo’. So they taught Leo the baby lion how to walk as a sheep, and talk as a sheep, and taught him all the ways of sheep, and they loved him with all of their hearts. They taught him to fear what all sheep fear, and that whatever he did he must stay away from the mountains, for lions lived up there, and no sheep who had ever gone up the mountain had ever returned. Eventually, Leo became so good at acting like a sheep that even his own family forgot that he was really a lion. Sure, occasionally some of the other sheep teased him for his unusual size and his bushy haircut. But Leo did what he could to fit in, and he made good friends, and eventually he became a good, productive member of the sheep community. The years passed uneventfully until one day an old lion from the mountains came down into the green, grassy valley in search of food. Leo was the first to sense his presence, and as soon as he yelled “Lion!” all the sheep began to run in panicked circles. In the midst of the chaos, the old lion noticed Leo. “Hey, you!”, roared the hungry lion. “M…m…me?” whimpered Leo, terrified but at the same time fascinated by this magnificent old creature. PAGE 10 • june, 2012 • IN LIGHT TIMES

“What are you doing here with all these sheep?” the old lion demanded. “They’re my family,” said Leo proudly. At this, the old lion laughed. “Then who are you, young one?” “I’m Leo, and I’m a sheep”, Leo bleated. Suddenly, the old lion’s face turned fierce. “Come with me!” he roared. Leo didn’t want to go with the old lion but he thought that by doing so, he might save his fellow sheep. So with a last look back at his herd, he followed the old lion off into the mountains. They walked for many miles until at last, high up in the mountains, they came upon a beautiful crystal clear lake filled with smooth, blue water. The old lion beckoned for Leo to come to the edge of the lake. By this time, Leo was exhausted — not so much from the climb, which he found surprisingly easy, but from the constant fear that at any moment, the old lion would eat him. So with a final reluctant ‘baaa’, Leo made his way to the edge of the lake and looked where the old lion’s paw was pointing. To his amazement, he saw not a sheep, but the reflection of a strong young lion. In that moment, he knew who he really was and let out a mighty roar that shook the mountains all the way down to the green, grassy valley… After the shock of discovering his true identity, Leo realized that he was hungry; really hungry. And grass just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. Fortunately, Leo knew where he could get food, and plenty of it. But when he got back to the valley to where his old herd was still grazing, he stopped in shock. For what he saw was not a herd of sheep, but a pride of lions, each one grazing and bleating and acting for all the world like sheep. It was his own mother who saw him first, and though Leo could see that she herself was a beautiful lioness, she cowered in fear, not recognizing him and bleating “Lion!” at the top of her lungs. “Mother!”, he roared, but the sound just made the sheep/lioness run even faster amongst the increasingly agitated herd. Finally, Leo noticed that his sister was looking at him with a faint hint of recognition, and he knew what he must do. He put on his fiercest face, and he roared at her “Come with me!”. And though she was afraid, she followed him on the long journey up to the clear blue lake in the mountains… Today’s Experiment: 1. Think of a time in your life where you became aware, however briefly, that you were more than your physical body. Reflect on that experience until you begin to recreate that awareness (generally of love, peace and power) now. 2. Identify at least one daily practice (meditation, journaling, walking in nature, etc.) which would enable you to access your ‘inner lion’ on a regular basis. 3. Begin it now! Have fun, learn heaps, and remember - the next time you see a lion, it might be you! Thing…Really

moment but your entire life. Every sweet, small step you take in one area of your life instantly shifts every part of your life. That’s HUGE!

April was an interesting month for me. I had a couple of visits to the hospital. Not to visit others as is my usual practice, but as a patient. It was unexpected and a little scary. Thankfully I’m okay now. Thinking back on the experience, I find it interesting what was initially on my mind after the EMTs and ER staff had gotten my body stabilized and I had called my “back-up team.” My durable medical power of attorney form was in order (although, of course, I did not have it with me). I had all that in place because I’ve seen how confusing it gets when we don’t. I had asked for the support ahead of time, so knew the people I called would respond. But this isn’t an article about pre-planning, although that is important. It’s not about gratitude, even though throughout my hospital experiences, I was continuously grateful for the good care I received. No, this is about what I thought of once my medical needs were being taken care of and my friends had responded to my initial calls. So what did I think about? The meaning of life perhaps? My body’s mortality? The next step of my spiritual journey if my body should cease? No, nothing so deep. Instead, I thought about what I had left undone at home. Before I went to the gym the morning of my first hospital episode, I looked at the pile of dishes, the unmade bed, and the stack of papers I needed to sort through and thought, “I’ll do that when I get back.” And it was these undone activities that came to mind. “Oh, but that’s nothing,” you might be thinking. Well, actually it is something, because these seemingly unimportant, unfinished tasks are a metaphor for other, greater things I might have left undone.

But there is one more exciting characteristic of the hologram that impacts you and me directly. According to Bohm, in a holographic universe, past, present, and future are collapsed together as measurements of time. So if you want to change your future, all you need to do is make a change now. For me, washing a dish rather than leaving it in the sink to soak or taking action on each piece of paper as it crosses my desk relieves me of clutter. As I relieve the clutter in the little things, I eliminate it in my thinking, my actions, and what I attract to me — and that’s no small thing. Oops, gotta go. There are a couple of small things (like my dishes) I need to take care of, and I think you already get my point. Here it is in a nutshell. Take action, no matter how small, in the now, then watch how your life opens up to new and greater possibilities. I know you can do it! Do you see the connection? The small things we do (or don’t do) are a hologram for the greater picture called life. In a holographic photograph, if you cut it into tiny pieces and then shine a laser through one of the pieces, you will see the entire image. That’s because each part of a hologram contains information about the whole. Why is this important to understand? Because the principles of the hologram are directly related to how we live our lives. In fact, our lives are a hologram. And when we understand how that relates to us individually, it becomes easier to make the shifts we want and need to make to create coherent, energetic lives. Dr. David Bohm, a well-respected physicist, proposed over 30 years ago that we live in a holographic universe. He suggested “that the universe had an underlying unity and indivisibility, and all things are infinitely connected in a seamless web.” The first feature of a hologram that applies to our lives is that each part of a hologram, no matter how small, contains information about the whole. This means that every change we make, no matter how small, impacts everything in our life. Let me repeat this point. Every change—and this can be a thought, a word, an action—no matter how small, impacts everything in our life. For example, If you take action on every piece of paper that comes across your desk (that includes filing it, following up on it, or putting it through the shredder), you will experience a sense of peace and spaciousness because you’re not haunted by clutter. You know you have taken the right action with all your paperwork, you’ve saved time because you don’t have to look through piles to find things, and people will be responding positively to you simply because you showed up authentically. A small thing, taking action on each piece of paper that crosses your desk, with large rewards. There is another aspect that impacts us directly. In a hologram, not only does every piece represent the whole, you change the whole instantaneously when you change just one small piece of it…no waiting period. Every change is instantaneous, not just for the individual aspect of your life you focus on in the

PET OBESITY By Emmy E. Bill

O

besity is becoming more and more common among pets in America today. It can be due to a number of reasons, however; in most cases pet obesity can be prevented by owners. Below you will find answers to some of the most common questions about pet obesity and tips on how to keep your pet healthy.

Q: Can pets be overweight? A: This answer is definitely YES! Approximately 30 to 40 percent of all pets in the U.S. are overweight, making pet obesity one of the most common conditions afflicting companion animals in American homes. Q: Is it really unhealthy for my pet to be overweight? A: Yes it is. An unhealthy weight can cause some of the same problems in animals as it does in humans including respiratory problems, diabetes, heart disease and an all over shorter life span. Since pets generally weigh much less than people, weight gain of just a pound or two can make a big difference in their overall health. That is why it’s so important to watch your pet’s diet and activity level. Q: Is my pet overweight? A: The best way to find the answer to this question is by checking with your veterinarian. If you pet is overweight, the vet can discover if there is an underlying reason causes your pet to gain weight, and then give you tips on proper weight loss. Your vet can also recommend a diet plan and exercise routine. To monitor your pet’s weight at home, feel his ribs. If you can feel them fairly easily, your pet is probably not overweight. However, if you have to press harder to feel the ribs, he is probably overweight. It is also important to know that every pet breed has a different ideal weight range. Check with your veterinarian to find out what your pet’s ideal weight is. Q: What is an appropriate diet for my pet?

PAGE 12 • june, 2012 • IN LIGHT TIMES

A:

Just like with humans, the best way to minimize unhealthy weight gain is to control your pet’s caloric intake and make sure he gets the right amount of exercise. Controlling calories can be done by giving your pet less food, and providing dry food instead of wet canned food. Feed your pet one to two times per day, don’t allow all day buffet style eating... some pets truly can’t control themselves and will graze all day if allowed to. If your dog likes to beg, avoid feeding him from the table, however, you can feed him low-calorie snacks, including apples, oranges, carrots, potatoes, and green beans. Remember not to overfeed him any of these snacks, as animals can’t digest them as easily as humans. Try to avoid feeding your pet excessive treats - they are high-calorie and can contribute to weight gain. Remember, the best way to get all your questions about pet obesity answered is by talking to a veterinarian. Your vet can come up with specific tips that are tailored to your pet’s life and health. Keep in mind; the key to controlling weight is by controlling calories and providing opportunities for exercise. If you think your pet suffers from pet obesity... chat with your vet, you’ll be glad you did.

Q: What are Prebiotics and Probiotics? Margo: Both probiotics and prebiotics work to enhance the normal, healthy flora or bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics (also known as “direct fed microbials”) are live microorganisms that are added to the kibble, after the product has cooled during the coating step of kibble production. Probiotics or “good bacteria” are thought to improve the intestinal balance of microbes by introducing more, healthy bacteria into the gut, while inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria or “bad bacteria.” This is very similar to the live cultures that are present in yogurt. Prebiotics are typically soluble fibers (oligosaccharides) that encourage the growth of “good bacteria” in the gut. They are not bacteria themselves, unlike probiotics. Prebiotics are typically added in small quantities during the dry mix step of kibble production. Common prebiotics include certain fiber sources as well as chicory root (inulin), fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and mannanoligosaccharides (MOS).

Q: What is a kcal? Margo: The abbreviation kcal stands for kilocalorie. It is more commonly known simply as a Calorie. The Calorie is a measure of energy and is a standard part of most nutrition facts labels. When you see the term kcal on a label in a dietary context, it is simply referring to the caloric value of the food. Contact Margo at 702-233-4157 if you have any questions or visit www. Music to Make Note Of

Greatest Hits by Ricky Martin The 2011 European collection Greatest Hits rounds up Ricky Martin†s big millennial crossover hits -- “Livin† la Vida Loca,” of course, plus “Maria,” “She Bangs,” and “Shake Your Bon-Bon” -- then balances them with other pop singles that didn’t ascend quite so far in the charts, duets with Christina Aguilera, radio edits, Latin hits, and the 1998 Official World Cup song, “The Cup of Life.” It may be a little scattershot in its attempt to cover so much ground, but it’s a good cross section of Ricky’s peak. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Michael Buble by Michael Buble

Canadian crooner Michael Bublé makes an auspicious debut, showcasing his mellifluous voice and classic-pop sensibilities. The twenty-five year old arrives under the auspices of Paul Anka himself, who helped choose tunes for Michael Bublé, including his own “Put Your Head on My Shoulder.” While his smoldering looks and swinging tempos suggest a new-model Harry Connick, Bublé has more pop appeal than the New Orleans heartthrob, offering renditions of songs by the Bee Gees and George Michael. Appearances on the Today show and the daytime soap Days of Our Lives, where he portrayed himself, should draw plenty of eyes -- and ears -- to this young talent.

Gems for the Soul The Lunch Bag Author Unknown (Heresay has it that this is a true story of Robert Fulghum and his 7-year-old daughter Molly)

It was Molly’s job to hand her father his brown paper lunch bag each morning before he headed off to work. One morning, in addition to his usual lunch bag, Molly handed him a second paper bag. This one was worn and held together with duct tape, staples, and paper clips. “Why two bags” Fulghum asked. “The other is something else,” Molly answered. “What’s in it?” “Just some stuff. Take it with you.”

Most of All I love you, Dad, for all the things you do. You make laugh when I am feeling blue. You can untie the hardest knot of all, Although I’ve tugged the lace until it’s small.

Author Unknown

Not wanting to hold court over the matter, Fulghum stuffed both sacks into his briefcase, kissed Molly and rushed off. At midday, while hurriedly scarfing down his real lunch, he tore open Molly’s bag and shook out the contents: two hair ribbons, three small stones, a plastic dinosaur, a pencil stub, a tiny sea shell, two animal crackers, a marble, a used lipstick, a small doll, two chocolate kisses, and 13 pennies. Fulghum smiled, finished eating, and swept the desk clean - into the wastebasket - leftover lunch, Molly’s junk and all.

You know the reason for ‘most everything, Like why it rains and why bees sometime sting, Like why the sun comes up and flowers bloom, And why a jet creates a sonic boom.

That evening, Molly ran up behind him as he read the paper.

You are the closest friend I’ve ever had. You share with me the times both good and bad. You play those games I know you hate to play And plan a trip for me each holiday.

“You know, the one I gave you this morning.”

I love you, Dad, for all the things you do, But most of all I love you, Dad, for you.

“Where’s my bag?” “What bag?”

“I left it at the office. Why?” “I forgot to put this note in it,” she said. “And, besides, those are my things in the sack, Daddy, the ones I really like - I thought you might like to play with them, but now I want them back. You didn’t lose the bag, did you, Daddy?” “Oh, no,” he said, lying. “I just forgot to bring it home. I’ll bring it tomorrow.” While Molly hugged her father’s neck, he unfolded the note that had not made it into the sack: “I love you, Daddy.” Molly had given him her treasures. All that a 7-year-old held dear. Love in a paper sack, and he missed it - not only missed it, but had thrown it in the wastebasket. So back he went to the office. Just ahead of the night janitor, he picked up the wastebasket and poured the contents on his desk. After washing the mustard off the dinosaurs and spraying the whole thing with breath-freshener to kill the smell of onions, he carefully smoothed out the wadded ball of brown paper, put the treasures inside and carried it home gingerly, like and injured kitten. The bag didn’t look so good, but the stuff was all there and that’s what counted. After dinner, he asked Molly to tell him about the stuff in the sack. It took a long time to tell. Everything had a story or a memory or was attached to dreams and imaginary friends. Fairies had brought some of the things. He had given her the chocolate kisses, and she had kept them for when she needed them. “Sometimes I think of all the times in this sweet life,” Fulghum concludes the story, “when I must have missed the affection I was being given. A friend calls this ‘standing knee deep in the river and dying of thirst.’ “ We should all remember that it’s not the destination that counts in life - it’s the journey. The little girl smiles, the dinosaurs and chocolate kisses wrapped in old paper bags that we sometimes throw away too thoughtlessly, each day, each a tiny treasure.

De-clutter Your Emotional & Spiritual World

By Susan Apollon

In other words, it’s time to embrace “spring cleaning” for your spirit. Spiritual cleansing and healing can and should be done all year long. But when you’re in a “decluttering” sort of mood already, it just feels easier and more natural to focus on trashing those spiritual bad habits and making room for new ones that will lead to healing and joy on every level.

It

happens every spring. As sunlight reawakens tiny buds and fresh breezes dust the fields with lilacs, a strange compulsion kicks us out of our winter stupor. We actually want to clean. Floors suddenly seem grimy and the cluttered basement starts to really bug us. Even that previously insurmountable task— window washing—sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday. This annual spring cleaning frenzy is more than mere tradition: It’s the manifestation of a primal urge for renewal on a deeper level. We have a deep need to mimic the Earth’s own rebirthing cycle by cleaning floors, decluttering closets, and airing out rooms. And while a pristine, life-affirming home is a nice by-product of this urge, you shouldn’t stop there. No matter how organized and spotless your physical world may be, it won’t matter if your soul is cluttered with emotional debris. What exactly is spiritual healing? It’s about balancing our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. It’s about becoming whole. Healing takes place when we reclaim our power, wisdom, or spirit, which we often bury during the process of life. On a more practical level, it means learning to live in such a way you don’t spend all your time fretting about the future, worrying about your kids, or obsessing over health issues. It means coming to a

PAGE 16 • june, 2012 • IN LIGHT TIMES

place where you refuse to settle for a job, a relationship, a lifestyle—a life—that doesn’t fulfill you. We are healing spiritually when we accept and align all parts of ourselves in a way that allows us to genuinely feel we are being true to ourselves; or are complete. We get to feel an authentic connection with our higher and lower self, which also enables us to feel more at peace, as well as more confident in our worth and wisdom. It is knowing we are so much more powerful than we ever believed; it is knowing we are connected with something much greater than ourselves. Understand that Spiritual healing happens when we work with the “Law of Attraction”; which is basically an energy that attracts like energy. Given that everything is energy and vibrates, and given the Law of Attraction, wherever we are vibrationally, we attract to us experiences of a similar level of vibration. What we choose to focus on (thoughts, images, beliefs) causes us to vibrate at a particular level, resulting in either good or not good feelings. Focusing on thoughts or images that cause us to feel relatively good or better will enable us to be at a higher level energetically and, consequently, will draw to us a higher level of vibrational experience. In other words, when you worry about your job, grades, children, health—and that is what you do most of the time—your dominant energetic level is quite low. Being in this state causes you to experience events and situations which are of equally low vibrations. Everything we desire is available to us, if we can just get out of our own way. We put our own stumbling blocks in our own path, by way of our attachment to our negative or low energy thoughts, images, concerns, unresolved issues,

our inability to forgive and release old feelings of anger, judgment, and pain, etc. Suggestions such as “lighten up”, “let go and surrender”, “detach and move on” all represent appropriate ways to energetically shift to a better place. The trick, of course, is to become conscious and aware of how we are feeling in order to allow ourselves to do the work of cleaning up (or out) our spiritual closets and bringing in what feels energetically better. This allows us to attract wonderful things and experiences we want—our hopes and dreams—rather than those things and experiences we don’t want. To do this we need to be really clear about our intentions. We need to decide what we intend to do or make happen that will make us feel good or better (happy, satisfied, joyful, peaceful). Once we have our intentions in mind, we can give them power and help create them by giving ourselves permission to really focus on them. Once you have clarity regarding your intentions, it’s time to practice what I call, “the Art of your ABCs”. Here’s how it works:

A is for AWARENESS & ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Become aware of your thoughts and images at the “head” level that do not feel good at the heart or belly level. Here, you’re “Facing” what makes you feel bad. Put your hand on your heart or belly and ask yourself, Am I feeling good (or okay) or not good at this moment? If your answer is “not good,” put the same hand on your forehead and ask yourself, What is my thought, picture, or image that makes me not feel good? Now, take time to Acknowledge or “Embrace” the

Feature Story

picture or thought. Give yourself permission to really feel the pain associated with your thought or image stored deep within you. Kick, scream, or cry it out—for a few moments, or more, if needed, but not too much more, if possible.

B is for BREATH and BREATHING OUT YOUR PAIN

Learn to use the Gift of Breath and then use your ability to lift yourself energetically to a higher level of well-being. Take three deep breaths. As you breathe in, visualize yourself breathing in the colorful and magnificent energy of the Universe or God. (Yes, actually give it a color so you can “see” it more readily.) Watch and feel this powerful healing energy coming in and filling your body with amazing warm, relaxing energy, causing you to feel so relaxed and heavy and at the same time . . . so light that you are aware of your body shifting up energetically.

& CHOOSING THOUGHTS & C isIMAGESfor CHOICE THAT FEEL GOOD or BETTER Here’s where you “Replace” your negative energy with positive energy. You choose thoughts and images that lighten your vibrations and enable you to allow in those experiences you have viewed as your intentions, hopes, and dreams. Every moment is about choice. Be conscious of how you are feeling, moment by moment, and choose to focus on anything and everything that brings you relief and feels better or good, including your kids, pets, loved ones, or your favorite funny video.

and feel a surge of joy and gratitude and “rightness.” Spiritual healing is often experienced as a state of harmony, balance, greater well-being, and joyfulness. It is an awareness in our being authentic and unconditionally loving, we are in a sense able to connect with others who are experiencing the same thing. Being at peace and authentic, we can and do align with the same energy of others, drawing this equally balanced energy to us. And that’s when we start to get the life we long for on a deep ‘soul’ level. 12 Ways to Renew Your Spirit 1.
Create Harmony and Balance through Breath Meditation. Choose to start each day by practicing the breath meditation technique for 15 minutes: Visualize your breath coming in from God or the Universe, merging with your body, thoughts, feelings, and filling you with healing energy. On your out breath, visualize your breath gently nudging out all your negative or painful thoughts or images. Do this for a few minutes while waiting for an appointment, in the car, in your office, or in school. Feel your breath shifting you energetically, leaving you feeling greater warmth, relaxation, and peace.

Practice your ABCs and Face, Embrace, and Replace often. They are the tools that lead to healing.

2. Become Conscious of Your Power through Journaling. Choose to journal 15 minutes a day about situations, times, and incidents when you could feel and/or were aware at some level of your power and how great it felt. Then note your fears, insecurities, their roots, whether they make sense or are completely irrational, and how they have stolen your power. Finally, write of ways in which you can begin to reclaim your power (via actions, self-dialogue, affirmations, breath, meditation, taking courses, getting counseling assistance, etc.).

These spiritual healing techniques work, even if you’re a cynic. Feeling good is your birthright. Indeed, you’ve probably experienced the essence of spiritual healing at some point in your life—when you’re so immersed in a project you lose all sense of time and place, or when you’re with friends or family

3. Affirm Your Power throughout the Day. Write affirmations and both visualize and feel the power within as you daily make these high-vibrational statements to your cells: I Am worthy, I Am wise, I Am beautiful, I Am intelligent, I Am compassionate, I Am loving, I Am forgiving, I Am strong, I Am

lovable, As I breathe in, I Am a part of God, I Am always protected and watched over, I Am that I Am. I Am, I Am, I Am! Write them on sticky notes and place them all around to remind you of your power, with I Am … everywhere. 4. Choose Forgiveness. Choose to consciously detach from and surrender to the Universe any attachments to old hurts, resentments, betrayals, and so on. Bring to mind the person or issue that creates pain for you, then Face it, Embrace it, Breathe it out, and choose to say I forgive you or I surrender you to God, Source, or the Universe, because I choose to move on with my life. Remember to forgive another for you and not for him or her. Visualize a cord between you and the person with whom you have issues and see yourself cutting the cord. Feel the relief. Visualize your power returning to you. 5. Practice the Art of Visualization. Envisioning what you want is a tremendously powerful technique. Because we think visually, picturing what we want in our mind’s eye—good health, Divine protection for ourselves or our children, and so forth—helps us co-create that outcome. When you create a mental image of, for example, angels holding up the airplane your son is traveling on, it helps you feel a sense of confidence instead of a sense of worry and fear. Obviously, you feel better and when you feel better, you vibrate at a higher level, which attracts good things to you. 6. Perform an Act of Compassion, Caring, Kindness, and Service Daily. Choose to Make a Difference. Choose any activity in which you do something for another person or group of people with authentic feelings of compassion and love. This needs to be more than signing a check. Do a physical deed that impacts on the quality of life of another person or being, whether it’s bringing dinner to one who is shut in or helping the elderly, blind, or others in need of assistance. Use Raw Honey for

R

aw honey is more than just a natural sweetener. Honey has a variety of uses in your beauty regimen and for medicinal purposes. Raw honey, which is not pasteurized or refined, can be especially useful because of its nutritional properties. Although you may have heard about the benefits of raw honey, you might be surprised at some of the creative ways it can be used:

Health, Skin, Hair, and More

By Elizabeth Walling

Eight great ways to use raw honey 1. Stock up for emergency food - Raw honey has a long shelf life because of its high sugar content and naturally occurring enzymes. In fact, some say raw honey can last indefinitely. This makes honey an ideal (and delicious) food to add to your emergency stockpile. 2. Sooth a sore throat and ease your cough - Raw honey is well known for being the perfect cold remedy. A blend of raw honey and fresh lemon juice can be taken as needed to treat a sore throat or cough. 3. Boost your athletic performance - Don’t waste your money on commercial energy gels that contain food additives and artificial coloring. Research has shown honey is effective for improving athletic performance. A spoonful of raw honey before aerobic activity can provide an energy boost plus a variety of important nutrients. 4. Treat minor cuts, scrapes and burns - Raw honey is an ancient remedy for cuts, scrapes and burns due to its natural antibacterial properties. Simply clean the area, dab on a small amount of raw honey, and wrap as normal. Change wrapping at least once daily until the area is healed. The honey may also help to reduce scar formation. 5. Make a simple sugar scrub - Soften your skin by exfoliating with a mixture of raw honey, sugar and sweet almond oil. Store the mixture in a glass jar and use as needed. You’ll save a fortune if you exfoliate with this instead of using those expensive department store scrubs. 6. Use as a glossing treatment for hair - Coat your hair with raw honey and let it sit for ten minutes before washing as usual. Honey works as a clarifying and conditioning treatment, making your locks shiny and smooth. 7. Improve your sleep - A spoonful of honey before bed (by itself or in a cup of warm herbal tea) is a natural sleep remedy that can help you relax and fall asleep faster. 8. Enjoy a honey facial - Massage a teaspoon of raw honey into your face and let it sit for 10-30 minutes before rinsing with cool water. This simple honey mask can smooth your skin, fight wrinkles, improve skin tone, reduce redness, and help with blemishes. PAGE 18 • june, 2012 • IN LIGHT TIMES

10ips for Companion Planting

for Natural Pest Control and Organic Sustainability Increase Vegetable Yields and Improve Flavor

ompanion planting for pest control and to encourage plants to grow with more vigor has fascinated men for centuries; however, few backyard gardeners know how to use these natural methods for organic sustainability and how to improve your garden. Plants that work together to help one another grow, plants that repel insects for organic pest management and plants that repel other plants for natural herbicide control are of great value to both small backyard gardeners and commercial growers. Certain protective botanicals don’t always act instantaneously, and must be planted several years or seasons in advance to be of utmost cumulative effect. For example, companion planting pest control using marigolds to prevent nematode growth should be done at least one season ahead before expecting to see great results. It’s important to remember that both secretions and odors from various plants are valuable traits for organic pest control and companion planting where repelling or attracting certain aspects and effects is attempted. Ten easy companion planting tips for to use now Companion planting for chemical free pesticides and organic sustainability is a huge subject that can take years to master; however, there are a few easy things you can do in your own garden right now to make use of this intriguing method of gardening.

1

. Protect carrots by planting them with leeks to repel both carrot and onion flies. They won’t even lay their eggs and your yield will increase tremendously.

2

. Growing radishes or kohlrabi? Plant them with lettuce to repel earth flies that hate the smell of lettuce and make them take flight.

3

. Aphids will injure almost all plants, causing headaches for gardeners everywhere. To repel aphids, plant nasturtiums around broccoli and bunches of chives among sunflowers and tomatoes to discourage infestations.

4

. Ladybugs are natural enemies to aphids and are excellent for use in organic pest management. Order ladybugs in bulk online or buy them from gardening centers. If you’re wondering how to improve your garden and reduce the aphid population, this is one of the most effective methods of doing so.

5 6

. Asparagus and tomatoes complement one another and improve the vigor of both plants. Place a row of asparagus between two rows of tomato plants.

. Beans and potatoes work in concert for organic pest control. Planting bush beans with potatoes in alternating rows protects the spuds from the Colorado potato beetle and the beans from the Mexican bean beetle.

7

. Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables belonging to the cabbage family do well when companion planted with celery, dill, peppermint, sage and rosemary; as well as potatoes, onions and beets.

8

. Repel moles around a vegetable garden with a border of castor beans; mice with a border of daffodils; and yarrow makes a wonderful boarder for an herb garden as it encourages the growth of essential oils in the herbs.

9

. Remember that companion planting for pest control includes keeping those cute little rabbits out of the garden. Onions repel rabbits and can be interplanted with peas, beans, lettuce and cabbage.

10

. If your garden attracts raccoons, plant corn and pumpkins together so that the large pumpkin leaves grow around the base of the corn stalks. Cayenne pepper sprinkled on the corn silk will also act as a deterrent. Because some plants are poisonous, it’s important to keep unattended young children away from the garden. Natural organic pest control may be a complex subject; however, there are many simple things you can do in to improve your garden for increased vegetable yield and organic sustainability.

Confessions of a Holistic Dentist Holistic general and cosmetic dentist Dr. Jim Wright agreed to an interview. His answers to my questions about his dental experience left me amazed, and sometimes speechless! MS: “Doctor Wright, as a lay person, I have several questions about dentistry. But first, tell me about your experience in general, cosmetic and holistic dentistry.” Dr. Jim: “From a purely statistical perspective, I have done over 210,000 injections, 12,000 crowns, 50,000 white fillings, 10,000 extractions, 1,000 dentures, 120,000 oral cancer screenings, 7 million periodontal pocket measurements, 500 implants, 5,000 veneers and Lumineers, and safely removed and disposed of over 40 pounds of mercury as hazardous waste from over 35,000 teeth.”

“I feel fortunate that after dental school I was hired at a welfare clinic where I served the underprivileged.”

MS: “Wow, it is amazing how much dentistry one person can do in 23 years! Tell me how you are different from other dentists.” Dr. Jim: “I began practicing general dentistry in 1988, equipped with all the basics I had learned in dental school. As I practiced, I realized through experience what parts of dentistry I was most interested in. Each dentist finds their own path, and I became interested in helping my patients remove mercury safely as well as beautifying and straightening teeth with holistic options such as Lumineers or Invisalign invisible braces.

“I spent time studying full mouth reconstruction with one of my early mentors, and was fascinated by the difference I was able to effect for my patients by working in microscopic loupes that cardiologists commonly use in heart surgery. A whole new level of diagnostic expertise opened up to me. Once I started using the custom surgical loupes, I never wanted to go without them. “I take great pride in giving my patients this highly precise and detailed level of care. I know it made a difference in my diagnostic skills and in my microscopic preps and finishing. It may take more time, but the results are worth the effort! I feel I am in a great position today with the expertise and wisdom of 23 years of experience.” MS: “Where did you start working after dental school?” Dr. Jim: “After graduating from Marquette Dental School, I worked for the next six years honing my skills. It was a great opportunity to perform dentistry and do an incredible amount of treatment. In that time, I saved thousands of teeth. It was humbling to work in a community where many people could not afford to keep their teeth.” MS: “How has that kind of work influenced you as a dentist?” Dr. Jim: “I learned that just having teeth for many people was a luxury. My inner city patients were so very grateful for a caring dentist who wanted to treat them the way I would treat my family. It is where I really learned to care about patients. They needed me and I needed them. I learned to produce quality dentistry with a high degree of speed. The speed was demanded, the quality was for my satisfaction. It was a time of great inner growth for me, and I matured and became compassionate about the needs and wants of my patients.” MS: “With regard to your continuing education, what has been most impactful in how you practice today?” Dr. Jim: “I have had the privilege of studying with the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), where I have learned from some of the most brilliant holistic dentists, medical doctors and scientists in the world. I feel honored to be accredited by the IAOMT and to follow their protocols and standards for safely removing mercury, to protect my patients and staff from harmful mercury particulate and vapors.” MS: “What gives you a perspective different from other dentists?” Dr. Jim: “I credit my patients with teaching me. I listen with an open mind to them, and that gives me a different perspective. This is especially true for patients who are holistically oriented. They tend to be well educated about the negative effects of

mercury and fluoride, having read articles on the Internet or books by leading experts such as Dr. Tom McGuire, DDS who provides

compelling evidence in his book, “The Poison in Your Teeth” that Mercury is a poison more toxic than lead or arsenic.”

MS: “It’s obvious you love what you do. What about dentistry continues to ignite your passion?” Dr. Jim: “At 51 years of age, I still have the same passion as I did 23 years ago. Although now I have to admit, I am so much faster, and more precise. It’s like a prop plane vs. a jet! Learning new techniques and procedures keeps dentistry exciting and interesting. Today we do things that were not possible when I first went to dental school. The times and technology have really changed. Big hair was in, Ronald Regan was just finishing his second term and in 1986, Microsoft went public. Cell phones (I remember the old heavy “bricks”), if you were lucky enough to have one, were in their infancy. At the dental school, computers were non-existent. “I was taught how to do my own lab work, including making my own crowns and own dentures. Dental school taught me how to take conventional X-rays and read them; of course, the much safer digital X-ray technology was years away. The Jesuits’ rigorous medical training philosophy demanded we study psychology as well as extensive gross anatomy, with labs and classes (think human cadavers). Although it was a challenging curriculum, I feel blessed to have attended Marquette University.” MS: “What do you offer now that was not available in the past?” Dr. Jim: “My patients receive the benefits of natural therapies combined with the latest in technology. For example, we have laser technology, which could be compared to a high tech version of energy healing (think Reiki Masters and Light Workers). I use my laser every day as an adjunct to periodontal cleaning and for prevention and treatment of cold sores with incredible results. It is also very effective for gum sculpting. Imagine how beautiful Katie Couric’s smile would be with less gums and more teeth. Laser even frees up patients who are tongue-tied or have a tight lip pulling their gums down. Most patients report very little or even no pain or sensitivity the day after laser procedures.” MS: “I understand that you do oral cancer screenings. Can you tell me more about that?” Dr. Jim: “Today VELscope is another great energy technology. It allows me to check for pre-cancerous cells in the mouth that you can’t see with the naked eye. Oral cancer is on the rise and this painless test is helping dentists save lives! Women are accustomed to screening for pre-cancerous cells, and early adopters to VELscope, as they understand the importance of catching cancer before it is in full swing. Someone dies every hour of every day in the US of oral cancer. (To learn more, visit www.OralCancerFoundation.org).” MS: “Why is it so important to have good dental hygiene?” Dr. Jim: “Many leading scientists have concluded that all diseases begin in the mouth. Many diseases are inhaled, masticated and swallowed. Whether it is human bacterial transfer, environmental exposure, food or chemicals, the mouth and its health condition is an indicator of the body’s health in general. In almost every culture’s medical community, from Chinese medicine doctors to progressive high tech genetic doctors, checking the appearance of the tongue is a necessary basic diagnostic test.” MS: “Over the years, what other advances have you seen in dentistry?”

Health Lights “Patients know their own bodies and many times they have a good idea as to what will help them to achieve better health.” Dr. Jim: “Dental materials have improved significantly, which has given us cosmetically pleasing dentistry with nice technical improvements. Composite fillings in 1988 were available in ONE color, a yellowish, grayish-white. In those days, we had to mix the catalyst and base quickly, to place it in the tooth, where the decay had been drilled out, before the material turned to stone. Those old fashioned tooth colored fillings were typically only used on front teeth. I asked a fellow student if he would remove my old mercury silver fillings and replace them with that old fashioned first generation tooth colored composite material. He agreed, and our instructors also agreed to let him experiment on me. It worked out great. I got the ugly black mercury fillings removed and had something more resembling a tooth. At the time, I did this for cosmetic reasons only. Had I known then what I know now, I would have protected myself and my fellow student from the mercury! “Crowns today are also greatly improved, and I am able to choose from the finest quality holistic, biocompatible materials with no mercury, lead, nickel or beryllium. I’m able to get a great microscopic fit and seal to prevent the leakage that leads to decay, root canals and tooth loss thanks to new technologies and materials. As a plus, today’s crowns are beautiful and very natural in appearance, combined with the strength of the new state of the art materials. “Fillings have progressed both in appearance and strength. The finest white nano hybrid resin composite materials have been shown to strengthen teeth up to eight times in laboratory tests, when old mercury fillings are removed. These materials come in a wide range of colors, which gives me the ability to match tooth colors.” MS: “What is important to you when it comes to cosmetic dentistry?” Dr. Jim: “Health First! After someone has a healthy mouth, I love designing a beautiful smile; however, I am not open to just covering up things, or ignoring decay or periodontal issues. A strong and healthy foundation is the key to quality cosmetic dentistry. Creating beautiful smiles holistically is very gratifying. When I do create a new smile for someone, I enjoy making it individual, to fit their face. My preference is toward Lumineers, which I think of as “Holistic Veneers”, as there is no need to drill the teeth down to little spikes. I believe in keeping the tooth structure whenever possible. With its ultra-thin patented porcelain, cerinate, Lumineers is a great option, whether it is the new 1-hour Lumineers, or traditional custommade Lumineers. The 1-hour Lumineers are great for people who want a low price and are not perfectionists. They make a nice change for a reasonable price. In my office they cost less than half the price of traditional custom Lumineers.

“After someone has a healthy mouth, I love designing a beautiful smile; however, I am not open to just covering up things…”

“If you are a perfectionist, choose the custom Lumineers. With proper application, they can last a very long time. I have Lumineers cases that still look good from the late 1980’s. People say their Lumineers are worth every penny and more, as a beautiful, sparkly white smile opens doors and changes lives. Today we take a photo and give you an image of what you can look like in 15 minutes. It is very nice to be able to see what an improvement you can achieve before you decide. One picture is worth a thousand words as the saying goes. In our office that is really true. Seeing people become confident with their new smile is hard to describe. They are so pleased. I believe a beautiful new smile is the best gift you can give to yourself or someone you Love! It is life changing! A smile is a gift of love, so smile at everyone you meet today. Give people a smile and the world will be a happier place.” [Summary: Dr. Wright is a perfectionist and conservative holistic dentist who believes in using the least invasive non-surgical approach first; traditional scaling and root planning (deep cleaning). By seeking out and working to understand the root cause of illness, the biological practitioner helps the patient achieve health stability, wellness and a reduced need for avoidable, unnecessary and costly treatment.]

Nature’s Medicine Chest By Rishel Huffman

F

or

every malady of humankind, there is a cure. Sometimes, that cure is simply a change in point of view or it’s a prescription from your PCP. Sometimes, the cure is worse than the illness. The good news is, that for the vast majority of nonlife-threatening illness or injury, nature has provided a solution.

Below is my recommendation for a natural solution to many issues:

Create an all-natural first-aid kit that fits into a small lunchbox or school supply box. Within this kit include the following. Lavender essential oil (L. officinalis) Those familiar with this oil associate it with its calming aroma, but it is much more useful than that. A drop of lavender oil on a pimple will clear it without drying the skin and aggravating the problem. A drop on a bee sting helps reduce swelling and pain. A few drops in a carrier oil such as almond or sesame helps ease the itching of skin irritations such as eczema, seborrhea, psoriasis and poison ivy. Wrap the glass oil bottle in gauze to prevent breakage. Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternafolia). The wide array of uses for Tea Tree makes it a must. This oil is anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-septic. It can be used undiluted for treatment of athlete’s foot, nail fungus, cuts, scrapes, insect bites, piercings, boils, lice and to help relieve dandruff. Added to spring water or vinegar, it becomes a gentle wash which clears and prevents future yeast infections, both vaginal (douche) and thrush (mouth rinse). Again, wrap the glass bottle to prevent breakage. Arnica cream (Arnica montana) This cream works as an anti-inflammatory and improves circulation. It is excellent for healing bruises in record time, soothing sore muscles, sprains and strains. A wonderful and handy tube form is available by Boiron, and can be found in any reputable health food store. A Heal-All Salve containing comfrey, chaparral, calendula, mullein and lavender. In my kit this blend of nutrient-rich oils is infused with these herbs then combined with beeswax and solid oils to make this ultra-healing salve. This salve speeds the healing of wounds, reduces scarring and is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal. Use it on cuts, scrapes, burns, chafing, welts, or any place with rough, dry skin such as knuckles, elbows, knees and heels. I keep it in a twoounce tin. Dried Aloe powder (Aloe vera) Store dried Aloe powder in a small, zip-able storage bag. Dried aloe can be hydrated with water to help heal burns (particularly sunburn) and the skin around raw, open wounds. Simply add water to the desired consistency and apply directly to the affected area. Aloe powder can also be added to lotions for additional healing of dry, chapped or wind burned skin. Added to shampoos, conditioners and body washes, it lends extra conditioning. Slippery Elm powder (Ulmus fulva) Slippery Elm is essential for anyone who has ever been so sick nothing would stay down. Slippery Elm not only stays down, it has a delicious, slightly sweet, nutty flavor readily accepted by children. It is very nutritious and helps combat dehydration—especially important when small children are sick. Slippery Elm is very soothing to the entire digestive system, and can be made into a porridge or tea for sipping. It can be ingested by anyone from pregnant women and infants to the elderly (unless, of course, you’re allergic to Elm trees.)

PAGE 22 • june, 2012 • IN LIGHT TIMES

Horehound candy (Marrubium vulgare) This candy is the best substitute for cough drops and can be found at many health food stores and old-fashioned candy shops. Horehound soothes the throat and lungs and is an expectorant, helping to break up phlegm; thus making coughs more productive. It is readily accepted by children because of its mild, pleasant taste. As a bonus, it also settles the stomach.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) Eucalyptus can be used as a chest rub, by adding the essential oil to a thick natural salve which is better than a commercial “mentholated” rub in many ways. Eucalyptus is a powerful anti-septic as ozone is formed in it when exposed to the air. It works to open the bronchial passages and sinuses while increasing circulation. Avoid petroleum jelly based salves found in most commercial chest rubs. Other handy items to include in your first aid kit are: J Gauze J Bandages J Medical tape J Cotton balls J Cotton swabs J Citronella-based insect repellent (for camping or hiking) J Aspirin [or White Willow (Salix alba) capsules] Rishel Huffman is a magickal herbalist and tarot reader of over 15 years. 1. Eat brain-boosting foods. The best foods for the brain are also great for the nervous system, immune system and the skin. Brain friendly foods include wild caught salmon, blueberries, leafy green vegetables, avocados, and sprouted nuts. For those of you who do not have the cleanest of diets, know that cacao beans are high on the list of brain friendly foods. Look for dark chocolate made with 70% or more cacao and, of course, organic is the best choice for any foods you consume. 2. Release toxins thru Massage. laser sessions are completely painless and oftentimes yield immediate results. Cold laser sessions offer a safe treatment option for the very old or very young or those already weakened by drugs or chronic illness. Acupuncturists, chiropractors and other alternative health practitioners may offer cold laser treatments in conjunction with their ongoing health care packages. Or check for cold laser treatment centers in your area.

3. Do not deprive yourself of sleep and rest. A tired or fatigued brain is a brain that is not regenerating nor restoring its energy. When you miss getting adequate rest your performance level suffers and moodiness sets in. The longer the deprivation, the greater and more rapid the mental decay. Studies indicate that when people have been sleep deprived for too long they begin to hallucinate and display signs of madness. The good news is that with quality uninterrupted re-cooperative sleep, the fatigue goes away rather quickly and you return to your right mind.

De-clutter Your Emotional & Spiritual World By Susan Apollon

7. Choose to Be Inspired. Choose to read or listen to materials that inform, soothe, entertain, and connect you with your own soul. It’s amazing how reading and listening to inspirational works can keep you on track with your spiritual practice. It’s good maintenance and can yield all sorts of insights you’d never gain otherwise. 8. Take Action Regarding at Least One Intention. Choose to gather your courage each day and take action toward the creating of at least one intention. For example, if you intend to get a degree, contact the universities of your choice and ask for a catalogue; then make an appointment to speak with the admissions department or heads of programs in which you are interested. Each evening, before sleep, consider several possible intentions for the following day—or future. Write about these the following morning—or the same evening, if desired. As you visualize your intention, feel excited about fulfilling it. 9. Create a Sacred Space for Prayer.

Create a sacred space in your home or office. On a small table or part of your desk, have a candle, a picture of a loved one, or even a lovely figurine or crystal. Use a soft blanket or a small, pretty rug or mat to create feelings of warmth and sacredness. In your sacred space pray daily, expressing gratitude and/ or asking for assistance or on behalf of others in need of help. Of course, don’t limit yourself to your sacred space. Know you can pray anywhere. The simplest prayer— Please, help me—is often the best. 10. Remember Your Blessings. Choose to show gratitude when you address your higher power, be it God, the Universe, your angels, Jesus, Mary, Buddha, or any other deity. Thank you is a high vibration. Throughout the day, express appreciation for every one of your blessings. Visualize each blessing and give thanks for it; as you say it, picture it and appreciate it. 11. Love Yourself First; Then Love Others. Pampering yourself may seem like odd

spiritual advice, but Apollon swears by it. Choose to love yourself every day by devoting at least a half-hour to an hour or more doing something for yourself. Find your passion and pursue it! Perhaps you might want to take a bath, get your nails done, visit with a friend for lunch, coffee, or breakfast, take a class, learn to play an instrument, or go shopping and buy yourself something pretty or frivolous. People tend to think they ‘should’ deny themselves and lavish attention on others, but they’re wrong. You are God’s creation just like everyone else. Why wouldn’t you honor yourself? You really can’t love others if you don’t first love yourself. You are your most significant other. Do not forget this—ever! 12. Smile, Laugh, Tell a Joke or Funny Story. Watch a funny movie or video, dance your favorite dance, or listen to your favorite music that makes your heart sing. Laughter and music are good for the body, for raising your energetic vibrations, and for you.

Remember, you are here for joy. Choose what makes you feel joy and you shall attract good things to you. Spiritual healing feels good. Yes, it takes work and practice, but it’s not some tough, rigorous discipline. Why else would we do it?

we appreciate and enjoy most in life. In our relationships, it is good to let others know how much we appreciate them and all of their unique qualities. Remember that what you appreciate, appreciates.

Conscious and unconscious, fear-based emotions can be obstacles to higher love. It is important to observe our feelings and behavior with other people, and to come to terms with dysfunctional emotional patterns. We must take responsibility for how we show up in our relationships with others. It may be helpful and revealing for each of us to ask ourselves these questions: “When am I not truly open, honest and real in my relationships with others?”, “At what point do I shut down emotionally?”, “Where are my boundaries?” and “Are these boundaries healthy or are they blocking intimacy?”

The most effective way to accomplish self-understanding and personal mastery is through our relationships. We can monitor the personal mastery of our egos by observing our interrelations with others. The Golden Rule, ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’, supports mastery of our human selves and our relationships. It helps to ask, “What is the highest good for all concerned?” The higher good for all can be perceived in your heart, from a feeling of love.

person evolves spiritually, Humanity evolves as well. Whenever one person increases compassion and opens their heart to unconditional love, they raise the vibrational frequency of the World. Also, as the Collective Consciousness evolves, so too shall each individual. A quote from Bette Reese says it all: “If you think you’re too small to be effective, you have never been in bed with a mosquito.”

integrating sacred love

The ultimate, most sacred relationship that we have is our relationship with our Higher Self. The ego self is an extension of Source that is manifesting as an individuated expression of consciousness. Our relationship with other beings is an outward manifestation and reflection of our inner relationship with our Higher Self. As we integrate our ego self with our Higher Self, we will see the reflection of that union in our personal relationships. In other words, as we develop Sacred Love within ourselves, we will see this reflected in

our outer world. We will naturally attract higher love into our relationships. Each individual person is a part of the greater whole. Love is the expression of recognition of our connection with All That Is. When we truly love another person, we acknowledge and appreciate our oneness with that person. Sacred Love expands when the Divine in one person appreciates and honors the Divine in another. Then, the sacred wheel of love is in motion, and Heaven on Earth can manifest for those individuals. As this happens, inner peace becomes a reality. Clarice’s Mystical Realm Astrology

Personal message from Mystic Clarice Barrett, Msc. D. Hello Stargazers! It’s important when reading your Sun Sign to also read your Rising and Moon signs in order to have a full picture for the month. This will be an interesting month. If you can time your moves to coordinate with the planets’ movements, you can succeed and find fulfillment. When June begins, the Moon is in its Lunar Eclipse, and includes 5 planets Retrograde for most of June, until Mars and Saturn go direct at the end of the month, leaving 3 planets retrograde, Neptune, Venus and Pluto. This month’s main celestial event is the Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse June 4th. Important, read Sun, Rising & Moon signs to have a full picture.

Lunar Activity: Full Moon – June 4th in Sagittarius, Including the Lunar Eclipse; New Moon – June 19th in Cancer, Last Quarter Moon – June 11th in Pisces – First Quarter Moon – June 26th in Libra. Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (feminine energy) June 4th, 2012. An eclipse of the moon will center more on the prominent women in your life (mother, wife, female boss, or even a friend for instance). Emotions are high at this time. Neptune Retrograde: June 4th; stations direct Nov. 10th in Libra. Key Effects: Neptune is about the positive and negative illusions; on one hand it can promote trickery and deception as easily as inspiration and spirituality. The Pisces symbol of the two fish, one facing up and the other facing down, which is also the term, “as above, so below”, also stands for the Alpha and the Omega; the beginning and the end. What paths will you choose? Positive or Negative. Solution: This is the ideal time to get involved with your spiritual self. You will be in a slightly more practical frame of mind than when the planet is direct. As a result, you will be able to strike a balance between the mystical and the mundane sides of your personality and the world. Saturn Retrograde 02-07-12 and stations direct June 25th, and clear by July 7th. Key Effects: “The Taskmaster” Rules: Discipline. Pluto Retrograde 04-10-12 and stations direct Sept. 18th, and clear by Sept. 28th. Key Effects: “Subtle Transformation” Rules: Subconscious self. Venus Retrograde 5-16-12 and stations direct June 28th, and clear by July 12th. Key Effects: Romance in retrospect (partners), financial issues, values and beauty.Venus Rules Taurus, Libra and the number 6 in numerology. Rules: Cooperation, and to protect valuables. Not a good time period for major beauty surgeries. For more detailed information on Retrograde planets & Eclipses, and their effects, go to TheMysticalRealm.com, for Mystic Clarice’s feature articles.

Happy Birthday Gemini! May 21st to June 20th “I think”

Ruling Planet: Mercury ~ Rules: The hands & lungs Symbol: Twins; Duality ~ Element: Air ~ Masculine Energy Lesson: Learn to slow down, curve your restless nature and stay focused Colors: Yellow & Blue ~ Gems: Agate, Citrine & Alexandrite Key Personality: Ironic wit; the Master of communications Spiritual Flower: Roses & Bamboo Most Compatible Signs: Aquarius & Libra; depends on the Rising & Moon signs

Mercury, the ruler of your sign, favors communications, writing, media, magic and illusion. Being a dual sign has, of course, both up and down sides. You are vitally interested in what’s new and fashionable, though you have a healthy skepticism which allows you to see both sides of an issue. Gemini is the hummingbird of the zodiac, which also symbolizes their sign. A Gemini loves to talk! They are quick witted, humorous and social by nature. They are somewhat restless and changeable also. They love life and enjoy it fully. A Gemini tends to force his opinion on others and tries to make them see things from their point of view. Gemini is flexible, versatile and able to adapt to new situations on a dime. Because of Gemini’s superior communication skills and innate charm, they usually do well at work, with others often seeking him out for advice and new ideas. Conversely, the Gemini worker will not hesitate to seek others out for advice and ideas, always striving to stay on top of the information chain. When interested, Gemini can accomplish more in a day than other signs can accomplish in a week. When disinterested, however, the Gemini worker will procrastinate and eventually move on; this same attitude extends to their love life as well. For Gemini’s don’t settle for second best in anything they do, this is why they are also called the “divine discontent”. If however, they find full contentment, in any area of their life, they can be very loyal. Gemini’s are so intelligent they are capable of doing almost anything well. They seek in career and a partner, full absorbing interest of the powers of the mind.

ARIES • Mar. 21 to Apr. 19

Libra ~ Sept. 23 to Oct. 22

Opportunities continue to abound, especially if you make good use of all your contacts in your everyday bustle. Positive Tip: Pay close attention to clues, tips, and just plain luck that may come to you from friends. Mind Focus: Watch temperament; anger, and impatience that can lead to accidents.

Let’s break all the rules. Your conventional approach to love could use a bit of revision. The approach to your romantic life from a different point of view reaches its peak this month. Positive Tip: Need to change romantic to exciting. Mind Focus: Career is fine for now; need to get relationship back on track.

TAURUS • Apr. 20 to May 20

Scorpio ~ Oct. 23 to Nov. 21

GEMINI • May 21 to June 20

Sagittarius ~ Nov. 22 to Dec. 21

Jupiter in Gemini of communications and new information is moving into Taurus this month. Don’t be afraid to learn new things; your talents may surprise you. Positive Tip: There will be a constant flow of information coming to you from all directions. Mind Focus: Knowledge can bring prosperity.

This month you might find a new interest in a career or inspiration, bringing a new source of income. Positive Tip: It is good to remember the old saying, “Make haste slowly.” Mind Focus: Test your visions by measuring them on the scales of reality. Make sure there is basis in your facts.

Cancer ~ June 21 to July 22

Watch your state of mind this month, and try to resist the Scorpio tendency to keep everything buried inside. Positive Tip: It may take effort to see things from a different view. Mind Focus: But, if you don’t, what’s buried may come tumbling into the open in a way that leaves your nerves frazzled and fried.

Stressful month in career! “The daily grind” … Co-workers may seem both irritating and irritable. Positive Tip: Don’t get caught up in the pressure prone atmosphere. Mind Focus: Next month you will forget what all the arguments were about in the first place, stay gentle and kind.

Capricorn ~ Dec. 22 to Jan. 19

For your typical Cancerian, caution and sense of security serves you well this month. Positive Tip: Risky ventures are just that – risky. Mind Focus: Your tried and true methods of money-making, thoroughly rule this month. It’s your “Blue Chips thoughts” that save the day.

This month you are convinced that what makes you happy is simply “money”. Don’t try and take short cuts or unscrupulous actions to obtain it! Positive Tip: Saturn, your ruling planet, is all about discipline, and learning lessons, “the teacher”. Mind Focus: You don’t like change, but this is required now by Saturn.

Leo ~ July 23 to Aug. 22

Aquarius ~ Jan. 20 to Feb. 18

With Jupiter moving into Gemini, squaring Virgo in the terms of finance, it’s time to walk the straight and narrow. I know this is a terrible thing to say to a Leo. Positive Tip: It won’t last long! Mind Focus: Learn to find ways to move forward without big money in involved.

The month begins slowly as planets prepare to shift their emphasis and yours. Don’t get bored, practical issues may predominate, but don’t worry. Positive Tip: Learn to distinguish the dream from the reality. Mind Focus: All things must pass; stay positive and have faith.

Virgo ~ Aug. 23 to Sept 22

Pisces ~ Feb. 19 to March 20

This month’s scenario is conventional wisdom, right? Positive Tip: Don’t spend money foolishly, eat at home. These behaviors are probably already part and parcel of your Virgoian skill set. Mind Focus: So put this info into use and prosper this month.

PAGE 28 • june, 2012 • IN LIGHT TIMES

Your personal finances may give you some ups and downs this month. Be prepared to ride the roller coaster. Positive Tip: On the positive side, look at how it can be stimulating. Mind Focus: With the moon passing through your house of love, even mundane surroundings may have a bit of a glow.

Clarice’s Life Path Numerology A personal message from Mystic Clarice Barrett, Msc. D. Emotional Cosmic Dust is in the air this month. Venus, the number 6, rules this month: There is a focus on: Business Partnerships, Love, Caring, Marriage, Beauty, Decorating and Home…including family ties. The vibration of the 6 is about respect for those you care about. This vibration has the capabilities to be warm, caring and affectionate, however, this month Venus is still retrograde until June 28th when it goes direct. The number 6 rules Taurus and Libra as well as those whose Life Path number is 6. The effects of the natural traits of this number can be off this month. People are thinking more of themselves than being thoughtful or caring about others. Beauty treatments may not go well, family and those who have close ties What Is Your Life Path Number? may see things differently. It’s best to let this month go The Life Path is the sum of the birth date of an individual, and remains throughout by without major life changes. Be tolerant, respectful and your life. This number represents who you are at birth and the native traits that resolve all differences to mutual agreements. In the ancient practice of numerology, your Life Path number is your Birth Date, and is the most important number. The Birth Path number describes the nature of this journey through your life. We will be covering the number 6, for the month of June. The number 6 is ruled by the planet Venus. Below you will find how the number 6 affects the rest of the numbers, 1 through 9 this month.

1

Life Path – Sun Rules Self-determinism – Leadership – Exploration and Independence. This month’s 6 vibrations will remind you to continue to expand your horizons. Your taste for adventure will be great as summer approaches. It is also time to exercise kindness and generosity towards an old friend who many need your assistance. Don’t be judgmental. Just give what you can and do not expect anything in return.

2

Life Path – Moon Rules Cooperation – Teamwork – Diplomacy and Intuition. This month’s 6 vibrations will give you the discipline that has been stopped in its tracks because you do not know quite how to move forward. You should be able to put your pride aside and ask for assistance from someone who can give you the advice you need. With the help of someone you trust, you can wrap things up and move forward on your adventure.

3

Life Path – Jupiter Rules Socializing – Optimism – Inspiration – and Artistic. This month’s 6 vibrations may bring social invitations that present scheduling conflicts. Since networking events will seem to be occurring more than usual now, you may have to choose between those that are professional and those that are just fun. If you must select one over the other, chose the one that maximizes your professional opportunities.

4

Life Path – Uranus Rules Systematic – Workaholic – Reliable – and Responsible.

This month’s 6 vibrations reassure you that two can be better than one; better than being on your own. Your relationships, career, and obligations keep you busy this month. Aim for balance in all areas of your life. Don’t let minor problems get you down. Stay focused on your goal. You are just cleaning up the mess from the Mercury and Mars retrogrades that slowed things down.

5

Life Path – Mercury Rules Freedom of Communication Expression – Varity.

This month’s 6 vibrations are sure to make your life interesting by throwing curve balls at you, but the kind that you really want to retrieve. As long as you are open to anything life tosses your way this month, you are bound to have some really great adventures. Be spontaneous, say “yes” to things, experience life to the fullest.

6

Life Path – Venus Rules Trustworthy – Paternal or Maternal – Teacher – and Healer.

This month’s 6 vibrations will increase your need to pay less attention to yourself and your own needs, and give more of yourself to others. The good energy you put out will surely come back to you. The best way to settle a bad situation; is within yourself first, and then see how the situation can turn around, just like magic! Smiles and good deeds will set things right.

7

Life Path – Neptune Rules Analytical – Questioning – Spiritual – and Intuitive.

During this month’s 6 vibrations, if you have an idea or a project to sell, then get out there and go to it as there is no time like the present to move forward on your heart’s desires. You’ll notice right now that people seem to seek you out for advice and guidance, so be ready to give it to them. Communication is more important for you now than ever before.

8

How To Find Your Life Path Number

To find this number add all the numbers in your birth date. First, convert the month to a single number, and then add this individual digit, to the birthday, and the individual digit of the birth year. The individual digits are again added together, as necessary to reduce the total sum to a single digit 1 through 9. In this column I am not covering your personal year number, only for each month how your basic birth number is affected. If you are interested in the year number 1 through 9. You would add your month and day together to a single digit, and then add it to the existing year, to know the year number you are in. Example: Date of Birth: February 8, 1939 (2-8-1939). Add the month (2) to the day (8) plus the total of the digits in the year, (2-8-22 = 32 = 5.) The Life Path number is 5. To get the attitude number you add the month to the day to a single digit. This person’s numbers are: Life Path 5, Day 8, and Attitude number is 1. For your convenience I’ve listed the basic meaning to the numbers below; this will also help you know what numbers you are compatible with.
