From The
Publisher Wow, can you believe it? It seems like only yesterday that we were bringing in 2014 and here it is, November, and the celebration of Thanksgiving. With the holidays fast approaching, we have this opportunity to be grateful for the camaraderie of friendships, family and loved ones. It is indeed a time of celebrationÉt he elections are over at last and we are no longer being subjected to such extreme negative ads along with the, Ò us against themÓ mentality. I never did understand such tactics. If I had my way there would be a law that forbid such acting out. If you wanted to play the game you had to play nice. There would be no mention of the opponents character and you had to run on your own merit, your own record, ideas, and strategies. If you did not do so, you were told to pick up your marbles and go home.Ét he race would be over. Now that is a concept I believe we all can get behind. What would our race look like for us? If we had to run on our own merits and record, would we get an Ò AÓ or would it be a Ò DÓ or worse? In other words, would we get the Ò thumbs upÓ or Ò thumbs downÓ on our performance? Stop and think about it. Each day we awaken and begin our planned tasks. How well do we accomplish them? What is our attitude as we go about our day? Happy? Begrudging? Contented or in a rush to move on? Bored perhaps? Grateful maybe? Do we even notice? How would we rate our daily Ò coming and goingÓ in our own lives? Down through the years I have noticed how, when we have a crisis, whether in our family or our nation as a whole, we usually come together. People forget their differences and unite in a common goal. For one brief moment, itÕ s about Ò usÓ and Ò weÓ É not Ò IÓ . There is a sense of purpose, pride and a feeling of being of service. The ultimate Ò highÓ if you will. However, after a time, we go back to our same routine and pick up where we left off. I believe it is time to reconnect with our purpose. Re-evaluating our lives, and how we experience our daily living as individuals and as a group, will go far on our path to enlightenment. When we are in service to our community, we are creating a force for good. It is time to grade, not judge, our performance. Are we going to graduate and go to the next level; or are we going to remain Ò stuckÓ in our old habitual thinking? ItÕ s time to step out of the box, take a chance on you, and become the solution for change; the only constant in the universe. Take care my friends, many blessings. In Love & Light,

Get Real
itting backstage at a network television studio in a large metropolitan city, I waited to go on the air for an interview. My segment was scheduled right after the noon news broadcast, which began with a gory account of a murder, then a rape, then war footage, followed by bad economic news and a political scandal. I began to feel depressed, but consoled myself that the broadcast would get to more positive reports. It didn’t. The entire fifteen minutes was filled with gloom and doom, nothing anyone in his right mind would want to get up in the morning and face. Eventually I just had to laugh. The news was beyond depressing. It was ridiculous. It was unbelievable. Finally, after the closing sortie of auto accidents and snarled traffic, the broadcaster announced, “. . .and now for a great new book by an author who is going to tell you how to live a happy life.” The camera turned to me. Suddenly I became Neo in the movie The Matrix, in which wizard Morpheus extends two open hands, a red pill in one palm and a blue pill in the other. If Neo ingests the red pill, he will awaken to his true self and the real world. If he takes the blue pill, he will remain in a familiar but oppressive world of illusions. I sat up straight and reached for the red pill. I told the audience that love is our birthright and fear the imposter. I took a stand for living authentically in a world consumed by illusions. I told the viewers that they deserved better than the world showed them, and they held power over their lives regardless of the insanity around them. It was the only news I knew how to broadcast. After the program, the anchor, a highly-respected lifetime journalist, took me aside and told me, “I agree with you completely. I get depressed coming to this job. There has to be more to life than the world we are telling people there is.” The reality we have been shown by the media and other seemingly authoritative institutions has been twisted into the polar opposite of truth, championed by people more committed to bondage than freedom. You have likely told someone about a valued vision of yours, to which he or she responded, “Get real!” Suddenly your excitement was reduced to ashes and you either gave up your quest or you had to once again build up the courage and momentum to forge ahead. Take care to share your sacred visions with people who will empower you, not attempt to gobble your hopes in the shredder of doubt. If you have even one or two good friends who understand and believe in you, that is sufficient. And if it seems that no one understands or supports you, Higher Power has your back. Even when you do not have faith in yourself, Source has faith in you. When most people say, “Get real,” they mean, “Get small. Get limited. Get stuck. I am trapped in my little fear-bound world, and your expansive vision is threatening to me. So I demand that you grovel in the mud with me. How dare you rock my tiny world with greater possibilities!” The premise is that success and happiness are unattainable illusions, while struggle and suffering are realities we must adjust to and live with. Most planetary game-changers were told, “Get real.” They were branded insane, shamed, imprisoned, tortured, and killed. The Church sentenced Galileo to house arrest for suggesting that the Earth revolved around the sun. Soon afterward Italian philosopher Giordano bruno proposed that the sun was a star and the universe contained an infinite number of inhabited worlds populated by other intelligent beings. Giordano was convicted of heresy and burned at the stake. When the judges issued his death decree he told them, “Perchance you, who pronounce my sentence, are in greater fear than I who receive it.” Jonathan Swift later noted, “When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.” Einstein echoed, “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.” Every person is potentially great. Are you willing to step into your greatness, claim it, and live it?

The holiday season offers you many opportunities to get real in the presence of people who fear to get real themselves, and call you to play small with them. regard their resistance as a call for love and an invitation for you to be authentic. When you stand for truth in the presence of illusion, you break the illusion for yourself and everyone who subscribes to it. Your mission is to remain alive in a world preoccupied with death; to walk tall when others are compromising their integrity; to be who you are while others have forgotten who they are. reality is not for sissies. To live authentically in a world steeped in illusion is the gift of a lifetime, spreading light in ripples from your own life to the lives of everyone you touch.

Gratitude of abundance
“I’ve got an attitude. I’ve got an attitude. I’ve got an attitude of gratitude.” That’s the chorus of a song by richard Mekdeci. In it are contained two key components for living an abundant life. We need to have the attitude to see the good in our life experiences and we need to be grateful.
Admittedly, the concept of gratitude is nothing new. An Internet search results in myriad gratitude quotations, gratitude journals, and articles and books on the benefits of gratitude. Each invites us to become aware of where we put our focus and how we interpret every life experience. Is the glass half empty or half full? or should we simply be grateful we have a glass with any amount of liquid in it? And is being grateful and focusing on the “good” attracting to us more of the same, and even something better? Ahh, the attraction factor, which purports that how and where we focus our attention draws more experiences and resources similar in vibration. It’s important to be aware of where we focus and at what vibration we are resonating. Which do you think will serve you better? An “attitude of gratitude” (which raises your vibration) or one of disappointment, lack, or fear? I vote for “attitude of gratitude” because I really, really like it better when life feels good.
down. Notice that as you find something to be grateful for, you begin to see good in more and more areas of your life. (Another thing to be grateful for.) For extra credit, begin writing a narrative about all that you can be grateful for. Include descriptions of how your emotions became lighter as a result of your gratitude practice. become aware of how your vibration is rising and how you are attracting more of the same into your life. If you stumble once in a while, remember you are not alone. reach out to a trusted friend for support as you get back on the path. And affirm to yourself, “I’ve got an attitude of gratitude!”

Psychologists, Michael McCollough of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and robert Emmons of the University of California at Davis, found that daily gratitude exercises resulted in higher reported levels of alertness, enthusiasm, determination, optimism, and energy. Participants that practiced gratitude felt less depression and stress, were more likely to help others, exercised more regularly, and made greater progress toward achieving personal goals. In another study, Emmons discovered that people who practiced gratitude were 25 percent happier than those who didn’t and that their natural state of happiness, or “set point” to which they returned after stressful experiences, grew. People with a consistent attitude of gratitude will generally experience better health, stronger, more loving relationships, and greater prosperity. Gratitude is a key that unlocks the fullness of life in mind, body, and spirit. It helps us see the gifts in what seem to be problems and the order in chaos. It turns “not enough” into enough and more. That means gratitude turns our lives into ones of abundance— abundance in love, peace, joy, harmony, physical well-being, finances, and spiritual growth. With all these benefits, gratitude would also save you a lot of money in doctor visits, medicines, lost wages, lost opportunities, and more. Yet, with all these benefits, I still find people who cannot make the mental shift to try gratitude. “You just don’t understand, Sophia. My life has nothing good in it.” My answer: “Yes it does. You just have to look for it and focus on it.” or, “I’ve tried it before, and it just doesn’t work.” My answer: “It does work. Just take baby steps. You can do it!” Admittedly there are some people who so enjoy complaining and receiving sympathetic “poor baby” responses that they have no intention (yet) of changing. If you are one of them, just know that when you’re ready, there will be someone to support you in your shift to “an attitude of gratitude.” For those of you who want to raise your vibration, make yourself an abundance magnet, improve your health, and otherwise live a more fulfilling, joyful, loving life—now is the time! If you are starting out, begin with writing down each evening five things for which you are grateful. (Remember to be grateful that you love yourself enough to take the time to focus on your good.) Then, be on the lookout for more of what you put on your gratitude list to show up in your life, and write those down. If daily is too much in the beginning, start with once a week. When this exercise becomes a normal activity for you, look for things to be grateful for in what otherwise appear to be negative experiences. Write them IN LIGHT TIMES • NovEMbEr, 2014 • PAGE 7

gorging c communication? on
To d a y, w e ’ v e c o m e t o v a l u e communication in much the same way we value fast food. We love both because they’re quick, cheap, and easy. Unfortunately, approaching communication as a convenience can have many harmful consequences— just as all those burgers and fries cause us to pack on the pounds and clog up our arteries.
Many Americans love fast food, and the reasons are simple: It’s quick, it’s cheap, and it’s easy—all of which appeal to the rushed, too-much-todo-in-one-day American lifestyle. but, because it’s so convenient, many of us tend to overdo it, which isn’t good for us. our communication habits are much the same way. We’re downright addicted to texting instead of calling, sending a terse email in place of arranging a more leisurely face-toface meeting, pasting in an emoticon instead of expressing a real emotion, and posting a social media message without considering who it might offend. Just as cheaper and more convenient food tempts us to eat more of it, quick and expedient communication choices encourage us to take the easy way out, often to our detriment. And just like fast food, the communication equivalent of fat, salt, and sugar takes a heavy toll down the road. Quick and convenient communication sounds like it would be all positive, but it’s not. because communication is—and people are—fundamentally imperfect, more communication brings with it more communication errors. Even worse, because so much of our ‘new’ communication is of the quick and expedient variety—precisely the type of communication that is the most error prone—conversational mistakes and confusion increase even more. If you feel like you’re making more conversational mistakes today, you’re not crazy. We are making more mistakes. We’ve taken something that’s fundamentally imperfect— communication—reduced the time we

spend thinking about it and increased its frequency. It’s a hot mess.
That’s why we owe it to ourselves to restore balance to our communication diet. Fast communication isn’t all bad, because many of our messages can and should be handled quickly. And slow communication isn’t always the answer, because we’d run out of time to handle essential tasks if we obsessed about every message that comes our way. A balanced communication diet includes both expedient and more thoughtful communication practices. We just need to rebalance our conversational consumption to ensure that thoughtful and meaningful interactions remain the foundation of our communication pyramid. We must learn (or relearn) how to have conversations, develop productive communication habits, build stronger relationships, and strike a healthy balance between fast and slow communication choices. Here, I would like to share four essential ingredients of a balanced communication diet: 1. Don’t forget how to slow cook your most important messages. A great deal of our communication can appropriately be handled with fast communication. A quick email answers a colleague’s question about the Gatorville account, a text message informs a spouse that we’re going to be late, and a Facebook post and picture lets our network know that our daughter lost her first tooth. In the midst of all this fast communicating, we risk eroding our ability to communicate slowly and deliberately. Many of the things we want our communication to accomplish—like persuading a client, providing emotional support to a grieving friend, asking someone out on a date, resolving a workplace conflict, or arguing an important point rationally—require slow and thoughtful communication practices. There aren’t any prepackaged solutions for persuasion, conflict resolution,
NovEMbEr, 2014 • IN LIGHT TIMES
emotional support, bargaining, and effective arguing. They all require the ability to thoughtfully and intentionally use your words to accomplish your objectives—which takes longer than expedient communicating, but is essential for succeeding in more challenging encounters.
2. Stop talking when you’re full. It’s easy to get to a point where we know that we’ve had our fill of emailing or texting for the day—but we keep right on talking, piling on the errors and feeling increasingly bloated with each message. Take a break when your smart phone is overwhelming you. You’re doing more harm than good when you’re sick of sending and receiving messages, but you continue doing it. Your breaks don’t need to be lengthy—a few minutes are often enough to clear your head—for you to get refocused and reenergized to tackle your inbox. Push away from your smart phone or laptop when you’ve had enough. The only things you’re going to miss while you are away are the mistakes that you’d be making. 3. Don’t forgo essential nutrients. Quick and easy communication has indisputable benefits—like being quick and easy. but expedient communication doesn’t nurture the deep and rich connections that we instinctively crave. This dislocation explains why it’s possible to send dozens of emails and surf the Internet for hours, and yet still feel strangely isolated. We can’t survive on email and text messages alone, no matter how hard it seems like we’re trying to some days. Deep inside, we have an innate urge for the kind of human contact that only slow communication can provide. Email alone won’t make my marriage better. Facebook is great for maintaining contact but doesn’t fulfill me like a meaningful conversation with a good friend. And text messages won’t deepen my relationship very much with an important coworker. We need slow communication for the crucial

Heap H eap
nourishment that it uniquely provides. 4. Pay attention to underlying health issues. The key to maintaining a balanced conversational diet is knowing when to push back from the table at the all-you-can-communicate buffet. Fast communication, in moderation, won’t kill us. but overindulgence in quick and expedient communication can fatally damage our most cherished relationships. our important relationships don’t necessarily require a lot of time and attention, but they do require some of our time and attention. Slower communication is part of what keeps our key personal and professional relationships healthy and strong. Pay attention to how your most important relationships are doing and make sure to give them the uninterrupted attention that they require. There’s no reason we can’t enjoy the benefits of our new and expedient communication technologies, and also retain our ability to communicate slowly and meaningfully. but eating fast food and sending quick and easy messages both require an overarching mindset of moderation to ward off unhealthy consequences. balance is vital for effective communication and healthy relationships. A balance of fast and slow communication will prevent conversational heartburn and keep your interactions fit and fulfilling.

EnlightEning ViEws By Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
I pull over on the entrance ramp and sit in stunned silence. Tears are rolling down my cheeks. I feel as though a bullet has torn through me and left me too shattered to drive. I can’t catch my breath. In this universe, which was created by a divine, organizing intelligence, there are simply no accidents. With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself, or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose. Here’s what I remember about a day 50 years ago that changed my life and the consciousness of America forever: I am driving my Studebaker Lark home from the university after a full day of classes. I am nearing the end of my sophomore year after having attended summer school. I want to graduate as soon as possible to get on with my teaching ambitions. It is Friday afternoon, November 22, 1963. I am approaching the Edsel Ford Expressway (I-94) on Crane Street and am just on the entrance ramp when I hear this shocking news on the car radio: “We interrupt this program to announce that the President of the United States has been shot in Dallas a few moments ago. It is expected that it is fatal.” I pull over on the entrance ramp and sit in stunned silence. Tears are rolling down my cheeks. I feel as though a bullet has torn through me and left me too shattered to drive. I can’t catch my breath. I am taking the news blaring over the radio very, very personally. I loved this President dearly. He spoke so eloquently of the many injustices he wanted to see corrected. He stood for eliminating the horror shows of segregation. He exuded hope for a better world, and was willing to take on the forces that wanted to keep the same old prejudices and hatred in place. I marveled at the courage he showed in his campaign when he promised executive, moral, and legislative leadership to combat racial discrimination and school segregation. I believed in this man. I felt close to him. Later, I’m working at Kroger Market on the evening shift from four till nine. Everyone checking out at my cash register is in shock—very few are able to speak. I look into a woman’s eyes as I hand her change and when our eyes
meet, we both break down in tears. The silence permeates everything. No one can speak without tearing up. I am impacted by this tragedy in a way totally foreign to me. It feels as if my life is going to make a big shift as a result of the events of this day. That day in November, 1963, initiated a huge shift for me in many ways. Up until then, virtually everything in my life that was impacting my future was of a personal nature. My experiences in foster homes or an orphanage, in high school, and in the Navy were my “Wayne Dyer moments” of awakening to a new direction and a new consciousness in my personal life. The assassination of President Kennedy didn’t just kill a man I admired tremendously; it killed something in me as well.
awareness. A rising tide raises all boats, and I felt metaphorically raised by this tragic event. I, like so many others, marched for civil rights and protested a looming war in vietnam. As a teacher in the inner city of Detroit, and later as a spokesman for ending world hunger through the Hunger Project, I sought changes to our unjust and unnecessary attitudes. My life as a writer and speaker focused on elevating people from thinking of themselves as ordinary and limited, to trusting in a new awareness that within everyone resides a no-limit person who can accomplish anything they place their attention upon. President Kennedy’s vision for a country populated by citizens who want to give and to serve more than take and
receive, is a vision I share as well. That he had to die in order to move the entire country in a new more compassionate direction is a part of the perfection of our universe. It can be argued interminably, but nevertheless it is so. He did die, and we all became better people as a result. I too began my journey toward being a better person; a career centered on service, compassion and love for everyone. My life might have had a different emphasis and direction had the events in Dallas that day not occurred.

I began then and there to think about a plan for a life that would have a historical and global effect. It was no longer just about my impending career as a teacher. I began to think in terms of how I could impact the consciousness of the entire planet. I saw myself from that day forward as a man with a voice of compassion for a higher good. I didn’t know how or even what my role might be, but I knew that one person with a conscience could make a difference and I was that person. Why not? I thought like JFK did long before I had ever heard of this man. I tingled as I thought of giving a voice to these ideas and having that voice heard around the world. I began to see myself as a world leader—not a political leader—but a person who was filled with compassion for everyone, and a person whom others were willing to listen to. As I look back on the assassination of President Kennedy, now 50 years later, I can see he was destined to give up his life in order to have his own dharma fulfilled. I believe there are no accidents in this spiritually ordained universe. The death of President Kennedy opened the door to long-overdue civil rights, voter rights, health care for the elderly, improved schools, and an awareness that equal rights were not just words to be spoken, but actions to be taken by all of us. This was the only way the consciousness of our country could shift. I was also caught up in this new

EnlightEning ViiEws Ews By Dr. Judith Orloff from The Ecstasy of Surrender: 12 Surprising Ways Letting Go Can Empower Your Life)
WHat's your money type? Money can bring out your most fearful self or your largest heart. Which one you surrender to changes everything. How do you do this? By finding effective ways to surrender fear, stinginess, and other resistances to abundance so that money can flow more freely into your life.
where you can, such as slowly paying off a debt. What’s hard for worriers to accept is that despite their valiant efforts to be financially secure, they can’t control everything.
Type 1. The Worrier Worriers can be thrifty, astute problem solvers, and will avoid errors because of their diligence with finances. The downside is that worry increases stress hormones, decreases immunity, and impairs health and sleep. It’s important for them to focus on surrendering worry so they don’t sabotage abundance with their panicked relationship to finances.

Type 3. The addicTive spender Addictive spenders prefer the thrill of spending to the security of saving money. They spend on impulse whether they can afford it or not. Spending becomes a drug, a way to self-medicate low self-esteem, hurt, and disappointments by futilely trying to fill an emotional hole with material things--a temporary fix at best.
The art of surrendering worry is to stay focused in the present moment, rather than making up worst case scenarios to freak yourself out, and take action

compulsive disorder which makes them clutch onto money and things to ward off anxiety, the opposite of surrender. They can’t surrender control and be generous because they fear scarcity. To avoid becoming a mean, miserly Scrooge, spread abundance by anonymously leaving small amounts of money for people to find. Experience the happiness of this as you let stinginess go. be a selfappointed money gnome who spreads abundance in the world.
Addictive spending is primarily an emotional and spiritual issue, not a financial one. Treatments include counseling, twelve step programs such as Gamblers or Debtors Anonymous, along with being taught money management skills. Healing comes from learning to address and let go of painful emotions without trying to numb them with spending.
Type 5. The inTuiTive spender At their best, intuitive spenders are finely tuned instruments, balancing logic with gut instincts in money management, hiring, and investments. However, intuitive spenders get into trouble when they simply go on impulse and disregard logic. Also, they can misread a financial situation if they can’t distinguish intuition from wishful thinking or fear.
Type 4. The saver/Miser/hoarder These types are practical, good at planning for the future and saving for a rainy day. Nevertheless, there’s a difference between being financially responsible and obsessive. Savers who go overboard can become penny pinchers and greedy misers. It’s hard for them to enjoy their money, take vacations, or spend on themselves and others.
As a psychiatrist, I know how much diligence it takes to surrender denial. This is something procrastinators have to want to do. Then, gradually, they can train themselves to address money at a comfortable pace. The secret to letting go of procrastination is finding the sweet spot between accepting financial responsibility and taking time out from stress to unwind.
If you answered yes to all six questions, then worry plays a very large role in your financial life. Four or five yeses indicate a large role. Two or three yeses a moderate role. one yes indicates a low level. Zero indicates that this is not your primary money type. Use this format to calculate your score in the other four money types.

Quiz: Am I A Procrastinator? Ask yourself: Do I put off financial decisions? Are my bills piling up? Do I have difficulty making decisions about money? Do I keep ignoring my credit card debt? Do I glaze over when paying bills? Are my taxes or other bills always past due so I accrue penalty charges?
Quiz: Am I A Worrier? Ask yourself: Do I worry about money every day? Do I make financial problems larger, not smaller? Do I have difficulty falling asleep because I’m worried about money? Do I worry about money even during comfortable times? Do I find I can’t stop worrying, even though I try? When one financial worry is solved do I immediately go onto another? •

Type 2. The procrasTinaTor This money type notoriously avoids dealing with finances with denial. They live from paycheck to paycheck. For the short term, the feel-good benefit of denial is that stress is reduced as thoughts of financial pressure disappear. but reality will catch up with them when bills mount and creditors start calling. Then panic and guilt about not fulfilling responsibilities set in.
To identify your style of relating to money, below are five money types, including quizzes from my book, "The Ecstasy of Surrender". Though you may contain aspects of more than one type, pick the one you most resonate with. Evaluate your financial habits with kindness. The goal is to develop a successful approach to money and get pleasure from what you spend on.

Quiz: Am I An Intuitive Spender? Ask yourself: Do I check in with my gut about finances? Do I look beyond logic for answers? If a decision feels right do I act on it or if it doesn’t can I let it go? Do I trust my gut when it says “beware” of an investment? Will I take a reasonable financial risk based on intuition? Do I consult my intuition about how to creatively make money and where to invest or donate? Smart intuitive spenders also have good common sense. Intuitive spenders can be brilliant money managers if they’re clear about what messages they’re surrendering to. The key is to let go of over thinking or fear, and trust authentic intuitions.

Something You Have Never Told Anyone During the final four-day workshop with our current mentorship group, we gave the assignment for each person to share something they have never told anyone before. Seven of the nine people said there was nothing they hadn’t already shared. barry persisted and shared something himself. Then I shared something. Pretty soon hands were being raised throughout the room. Everyone but one person said they had something. We thought this assignment might take an afternoon. Instead, it took three days and was profoundly healing for each person, and especially for the person who “didn’t have anything.” We all have things we have not shared with anyone. Perhaps we tell someone part of the details, but leave out the parts where we feel ashamed or embarrassed. Perhaps we feel that no one would be interested. but telling another person a never-shared story from our life is very healing. Several years ago we had a vietnam vet in one of our longer groups. People were sharing stories from their past. This man said he had a story but was not going to share it. He said it had happened so long ago and he just wanted to forget about it. His wife of thirty years had never heard the story, though she knew something significant had happened to him during the war. Try as she would, she could not convince him to share his story. I sat with him for a long time and just looked into his eyes: urging him to be healed of whatever it was that had happened to him. Finally he agreed to share his story. We set up a time when he and his wife could meet with us for an extended period of time. The story took three hours for him to tell. When finished, he cried and his wife held him. He had been blaming himself for a terrible tragedy in which an innocent vietnamese woman had been killed when it was clearly the fault and full responsibility of his superior officer. There was absolutely no doubt as to his innocence. For all those years he blamed himself and never told anyone. In the telling of his story, he realized he had trusted his superior officer as he had been trained to do. That officer committed cold-blooded murder, which was never reported. I asked him if he would be willing to share his story with our nineteen year old son, John-Nuri, who was exactly
the same age as he was at the time of this incident. our son was studying psychology, knew this man, and jumped at the opportunity. This man shared his story all over again with our son and, as he did, he looked at the innocence and trust in the eyes of our son and realized he had been the same at that age. Something very profound was healed within this man, and he was able to live a much richer life with a deeper connection to his wife. The woman in our group who did not have anything to share, ended up sharing the most of all. Her story went for over two hours. When she started, she still insisted she didn’t have anything, but as the time went on a deeply painful experience enfolded. The rest of us sat in silence just listening and loving her. I believe that sharing her story is going to have a deep positive effect on that woman. We can offer the gift of listening to another person’s story. Just the act of listening without judgment can be so healing for a person. I remember a time when I too was nineteen. I had been visiting barry in New York City and missed my flight back to my parent’s home in buffalo. Since it was a holiday weekend, there were no flights for several days. barry drove me to the bus terminal and then had to leave for his summer job a distance away in the opposite direction. I waited in the New York City bus terminal feeling very young and a bit scared. Finally the bus arrived that would take eight hours to arrive in buffalo. I settled into my seat hoping to be alone. The bus was crowded and soon a woman in her late twenties sat next to me. I got out my school books and attempted to look busy. But I quickly figured out this woman was very upset and needed to talk. being a quiet person by nature, I had learned to ask questions and just sit back and listen. I asked this woman a few simple questions. She realized I was a good listener and soon she was telling me a story she had never shared with anyone. I was a science major in college and had not even had one psychology class. I did the only thing I knew to do; I listened with my whole heart and was mostly silent.

to her and that just being able to tell this story had been so healing for her. We both closed our eyes and slept the rest of uffalo, she hugged me and the trip. In buffalo, told me I would never know the gift I had given her. I did not even know her name and never saw her again. If there is a person or people in your life you trust, perhaps you could take turns and share a story you have never told anyone. If afraid to tell this story and do not feel safe with anyone in your life, then seek out professional help. It will be so healing to tell your untold story to someone who will listen without judgment. Even your listening to your own story as you speak will help. Each of us carry shame and secrets from the past that keep us from opening our hearts fully to others as well as to ourselves. As we allow the light of non-judgment and love to enter into the story, we are free to let it go. Isn’t an important part of this life
is all about letting go and opening to trust and love? I believe that it begins with ourselves.

5 Quick Tips If Your Pet Becomes Poisoned
By Dr. Karen Becker
In 2013, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) processed nearly 180,000 cases of pets potentially exposed to toxic substances. The APCC has compiled a list of five important tips for handling a pet poisoning emergency in your own household. 5 Quick Tips for Dealing with a Pet Poisoning Emergency 1. Be Ready - before you ever need them, make sure your veterinarian’s phone number, the number of the closest emergency veterinary hospital, and the number for a pet poison center are saved in your phone. The APCC number is 888-426-4435; the Pet Poison Hotline is 800-213-6680. And remember that you may be able to provide important, even life-saving initial treatment at home if you have a pet first aid kit ready and easily accessible in an emergency. 2. Keep Your Cool - Maintaining your composure when faced with a pet emergency can be hard to do, but it’s really important if you want to insure your furry family member gets the help he needs. If you stay calm, you’ll be better able to provide first aid, as well as vital information to the people treating your pet. 3. Evaluate Your Pet’s Condition - It’s important to make a clear-eyed observation of your pet’s condition. Is she behaving abnormally? Is she bleeding? Is she having trouble breathing? Is she having convulsions or seizures? Is she unresponsive? If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, your pet needs immediate medical attention. Call your vet or the nearest emergency animal
hospital and alert them that you’re on your way. 4. Be Prepared to Answer Questions - What is the toxic substance you know or suspect your pet ingested? Either pack up the substance itself (this is ideal), or write down the exact name of the product or medication. You’ll also want to write down the strength (typically in milligrams) of the drug, the concentration of active ingredients in herbicides or pesticides and the EPA registration number, and any other information you think might help the veterinarian who will be treating your pet. When did the poisoning happen? Did you catch your pet actually ingesting the substance? Has your pet vomited? If so, did she vomit up any of the poison or packaging? 5. Be Proactive - If you know or suspect your pet has ingested a poison, don’t wait for symptoms before seeking help. Time is of the essence in preventing the poison from being absorbed by your pet’s body. The faster you are able to treat your furry companion at home (with guidance from your vet or a pet poison hotline), or get her to a veterinarian, the better her chances for survival and a full recovery.
Five Unbelievable Things Dogs Can Smell By Dr. Karen Becker Inside your nose are about 6 million olfactory receptors that allow you to recognize thousands of different smells.1 It sounds like a lot, until you realize that inside your dog’s nose there are up to 300 million such receptors.
This explains why a dog’s sense of smell is anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than your own, and also why their sense of smell can be described as nothing short of amazing. As reported by NovA scienceNoW:
While you can detect certain odors in parts per billion, a dog can detect them in parts per trillion. Plus, your dog has a part of his brain devoted to analyzing smells that’s about 40 times larger, proportionally, than the same area in your brain.
“…in her book Inside of a Dog, Alexandra Horowitz, a dog-cognition researcher at Barnard College, writes that while we might notice if our coffee has had a teaspoon of sugar added to it, a dog could detect a teaspoon of sugar in a million gallons of water, or two Olympic-sized pools worth.

Another dog scientist likened their ability to catching a whiff of one rotten apple in two million barrels.” Hard-Drive-Sniffing Dogs Help Police Find Cyber Criminals You probably know dogs can sniff out drugs, people, bombs, and even cancer, but hard drives? It turns out dogs can also use their noses to detect hard drives, thumb drives, and other computer gear, and police are now using these specially trained hard-drive-sniffing dogs in the fight against child pornography. because such devices are typically very small, criminals can hide them virtually anywhere, making the dogs invaluable. The Connecticut State Police Training Academy has already trained more than 60 dogs in their 22-week program, teaching them to find all kinds of digital devices. As reported by The Bark: “A Labrador Retriever named Thoreau was recently placed at a Rhode Island police department, making the Ocean State the second in the nation to have a digital device sniffing pup… [in June] Thoreau assisted in his first search warrant, pinpointing a thumb drive containing child pornography in a box hidden deep inside a metal cabinet.” This isn’t the first time dogs have been used to detect digital criminals. In the past, DVD-sniffing dogs have been used to track down massive DVD counterfeiting operations in Southeast Asia, finding not only millions of pirated discs but also burner towers used to produce them. Your Dog’s Nose as a Medical Device? Dogs can detect subtle differences in the breath, urine, skin, blood, and feces of cancer patients, allowing them to detect certain cancers with up to 97 percent accuracy. In one study, dogs were able to detect or rule out lung and breast cancer, at all stages of the disease, with about 90 percent accuracy just by sniffing breath samples. Even more remarkable, the dogs used for the study were “ordinary household

Among the extraordinary accomplishments, dogs have been trained to sniff out: dogs” who had only received a short three-week training beforehand. In another study, a black lab named Marine was able to detect colon cancer with 25 percent greater accuracy than the routinely used fecal occult blood test.
Diseased beehives: Dogs can detect the bacteria that causes a bee disease known as American Foulbrood, so the hives can be removed before they infect others.
Recently, dogs were also able to detect prostate-cancer-specific volatile organic compounds (voCs) in the urine of prostate cancer patients with 98 percent accuracy.7 So-called medical detection dogs and medical alert assistance dogs are also being trained to detect medical crises before they happen, helping to alert patients so they can seek help. This includes:
Whale feces: Whale poop is used in research into whale diets, but while it floats initially, it sinks in about half an hour, making it very difficult to come by. Dogs can detect the scent of whale poop from more than a mile away and

Universal Logic: What is the True Meaning of Life? By Bill J. Sego
Universal Logic is a book for the ages, one that outlines an interpretation of existence that works for people of all beliefs and ideologies. The author finds common ground between those of science, religion, and spirituality to form a unique ontology that combines elements of panpsychism, idealism, transhumanism, and what the future has in store for humanity. Mr. Sego calls his philosophy universal logic since it depicts a timeless interpretation of life from the perspective of the entire Universe, outside looking in. His book answers such questions as “What exists outside the Universe?” “How did we get here?” “Why am I me and not you?” “What happens to my consciousness when I die?” “Does life exist elsewhere in the cosmos?” “Does time really exist?” and many more. Some of the topics it explores include cosmology, consciousness, relativity, the soul, artificial intelligence, the sixth sense, future technologies, alternate dimensions, ghosts, parallel universes, aliens & UFos, and time travel. Mr. Sego’s prevailing message is for people to focus on what we all have in common rather than our differences since we all live on this planet in a mutual togetherness. According to his book, this is the first step in interpreting the true meaning of life. To learn more about the book or to purchase a copy, visit www.nativeinkpress.com or find it at Amazon books. Evolution of The Silver Pearl Children
f eature s tory
souLs oF a hiGher consciousness
As a new millennium started, a new age of consciousness also began. Contained within this consciousness are great changes for our world and the children being born at this time are called the Silver Pearl Children. They have entered the Earth realm with a soul intent to encourage the advancement of human consciousness in recognizing its Sacred expression of the Divine in a human form. They began to birth in this realm of matter in April of 2009. Souls evolve and create generations and world experiences through an eon, era or epoch of time. Within each cycle, frequencies of souls emerge with a sovereign power of consciousness that assists, as well as reveals, the changing evolution of a given era. Era is a subdivision of an eon (a thousand million years), and contains the field of many epochs (events marking characteristics of time. For example: Epoch of Dinosaurs, Epoch of Giants, Epoch of Atlantis, Epoch of Modern Humanity) which marks intentions and events of life evolving from one stage to another. The evolution of Earthly existence has allowed soulevolution to heighten awareness and clarity through states of consciousness. For instance, our early human development was based on learning to survive in a human body and the violence of wild animals, storms, and uncontrollable events. As the human form began to learn to deduce, a new state evolved of Self Identification and an awareness that the human is more than just a person on Earth. A greater identification of a Creator evolved and now the newer state of identifying existence as a oneness has brought humanity to truly consider the deeper meaning of we are brothers and sisters and we are Spirit living in a body. With such awareness, compassion and understanding grows with the depth of love and care that has been displayed by a few avatars (Jesus, buddha, Gandhi, etc.) that we now can emulate. We now know we are not only reaching an end of an epoch, we are completing an era and adjusting into an eon of a New World Consciousness. In fact, this New World Consciousness can be called an Epoch in the path of an Era of Great Change as we enter the Eon of Peace, Light and Love. (Can you feel Christ, or buddha, Quan Yin, and Tau breathe a sigh of relief—“it is finally here and now.’) Each time we shift, we find souls emerging with new radiance of light frequencies that help uncover the next level of development and expand awareness of the Source-Core of All. As we cultivate the gardens of the New World and the 3rd and 4th states of consciousness (Compassion and oneness) souls are emerging from the refined frequencies of consciousness and are bringing in a whole new stage of existence, awareness and cleverness. They bring in an ability that provides them a quickness to understand, learn, devise and apply ideas.

By Katherine Bell, Ph.D., D.D. They are exceptionally adroit and channel a rare understanding of the whole. They have, perhaps, completed cycles of 144,000 life experiences, evolved through the 4th state of consciousness (unconditional love, Life Mastery, and Oneness), and return to participate in the changes of the Great Plan to fulfill the Evolution of Union. They will develop the new language of describing our existence, and much more. They are called the Pearl Children, carrying a silver-pearl base with radiance of brilliant, shimmering vividness of color frequencies emerging from the center of their auric sphere. They are bringing a dominant physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strength to withstand the Earth Changes and take up the frequency of shimmering light within their physical vehicle. Their abilities flow through the collective consciousness and effect the power of change within each individual already living on the Earth. In this reality, they help us take up the light and shimmer the changes without the need to destroy our bodies and rebirth; nor destroy our Earth. Their radiance of energy (consciously and unconsciously) help create the new plane of matter we all have the opportunity to exist in. They are troubadours bringing the language of the Love of the Earth, the Love of our Holy Living Temples (our bodies), and the Love of Change that is Inherent Source vibrating in everyone and everything. These children need to integrate within our world-community. They need our help. How might we help? by our willingness to change, adapt to new frequencies and listen as they teach through their actions, needs, maturity and wisdom. We must “sit at the feet of the children” yet not loose the quality of knowing our own design, sacred plan, and sacredness of our true self. We are to learn the balance of innocence and knowing. We must be willing to live with them in the “Now,” not seek the past, call them to past lives to remember, or keep telling them what happened to them when they were born, growing, and developing. If they break an arm one day, it is important not to tell them to “watch out, because…” an hour, a day, or years later. They know what they are to learn from the experience. It is most important to remind them they are prominent, intelligent members of the Earth Clan and important to the Earth experiences. It is most important to tell them how great “today” is; not yesterday and not even tomorrow. When we do this, their souls can remain on task to help shimmer the world into its new position as a focal global light of Creation. Our world needs to be filled with curiosity, and find all that is right with these children, not what is odd, different, or abnormal. For in truth, their differences is what is right, their oddity the new way, and their abnormal qualities the gifts of new expressions of life. These children are challenged by acceptance and rejection. They may create the challenges of being annoyingly proud of their cleverness and over-reach their own capabilities. In other words, their challenge will be to balance their Ego within the Light or choose to live an ever-more stronger egotistical reality than we have seen before (and oh, we see plenty now; so just imagine a grander egotistical expression than what we know). We are Keepers of the Children’s Light by releasing our Ego to a higher standard of living so they may reflect the Higher Ego in balance with the Shimmering Light of Source revealed in these children. Above all, these Pearl Children are graced by a “higher order” of knowing their
shimmering lights of a new era… Avatar Self. If embraced by society, they will not have to play out the prideful ego on the stage of Earth Life. They will teach each of us, already living on the Earth, how to become more integrated and interdependent, more loving and compassionate and more of a world-society versus a single community guarding our territories for fear of loss. These children come in with an awareness that there is nothing to lose for everything is here for everyone, and all needs are met in an instant when aligned with the Avatar Consciousness. They have the capacity to help us all release and allow the emergence of our Source Expression and live it fully… for they have the internal memory bank clear and are aware of their Core Source Essence. They are souls who have evolved beyond karmic memory of cause and effect; creating challenges and polarity swings. They inherently know how to be the Causal Essence and Create an Effect that is revealed as positive karma to everyone. They have evolved to the Right Awareness of Now and the Right Use of Polarity vibrations to weave and create outcomes of existence to fit the need here and now. They will help us no longer rely on the past because their clean slate allows for moment-to-moment expressions of knowing. Remember, don’t seek to know their past lives, for they have completed their cycles and do not wish to reconstruct them. Be only in the moment of their present incarnation and their essential spiritual essence. In fact, they ask that you honor this for each of them as well as yourself. We are their caretakers as they birth and grow; just as they are our caretakers of change. Can we maintain an open mind, curious to know and willing to express in new ways? Will we attempt to bring them into past knowledge, base our lives and therefore their lives on our history? Can we express the truth that we are creating new pathways and we need only follow Truth, instill reverence for all life, love for all, and accept our responsibility to balance our existence with the Earth? Can we be open to listen to new ideas coming from the mouth of babies, the youth? Will we allow a new state of genius to emerge or believe we are the only ones who know just because we have experienced something in this lifetime? Letting go of our own past, remaining curious about the creation of now and of new paths, and trying new levels of living are what is required of us as we listen to these mature souls reveal through the mouths of young avatars. Souls use the frequencies of color to align with particular intentions of Source Consciousness, and so it is with the Pearl Children. As was noted before, they all carry a base color of shimmering Pearl-Silver. Contained within this frequency is the sacred geometry of wisdom and creative intent of Source to develop the New World. Intuition and Unconditional Love is released from this pearl-silver state of consciousness. It is a foundation of the abstract consciousness with an ability to easily remember Source and unify with the extraordinary frequencies capable of changing matter, the realm of the Earthly collective consciousness, and remaining as a constant conduit of light. In the spiral of evolution, this silver frequency carries the intent to change the human form over a period of an eon, through eras and epochs. The highest intent is to bring us into the awareness of our Source-Self that transforms and transfers light frequency into matter and non-matter with simple concentration. Eventually, our soul intentions to live on Earth and explore the realms of matter will simply be by waves of thoughts changing particles and atoms and shimmering from one point of existence to another point of existence, as quickly as the thought of
Being that existence occurs. Eventually, we will no longer have to come through the birth canal (unless we have something to learn through the experience). We will no longer have to physically die to move from one realm of existence to another (unless we have something to learn from the experience). These Pearl Children are the forerunners, helping us turn the corner in our own spiral of existence. They will subtly, yet profoundly, bring changes to the physical body. They will subtly, yet profoundly, reveal changes of intelligence. They will subtly, and again profoundly, reveal emotional balance. They will reveal more use of the intuitive, telepathic qualities of the mind as well and excel the logical consciousness. They will rely more on Knowing rather than memory. The only memory they will rely on is Source Consciousness. They will imprint the automatic mind with Source knowledge versus ancestral knowledge of the Human conditioning. They will utilize the genetic coding of Source versus genetic coding of human bloodlines. These Souls will be moving us through the evolution spiral of the new coding over eras and epochs. We will live with many of these pearl children in our lifetime and perhaps return to be a part of the evolution by aligning in the patterns of the Pearl Conditions of living in a future lifetime. The color frequencies being used are not, as yet, seen in our color scales. Yet, we can recognize them from what our consciousness knows of color. The shimmering, translucent color spectrum within the pearlized field of light these souls use are: Turquoise ~ Mystic, Healer Electric Blue ~ Healer, Community oriented Ultra Violet ~ Healer, Global and Galactic oriented Soft Yellow ~ Architect, Orator Gold ~ Leader (Spiritual, Community, Government), Candid Coral ~ Teacher (at all levels), Wise Pastel Green ~ Healer, Architect Ruby ~ Activist, Leader Pastel Rainbow ~ Galactic, Mystic, Dimensional Guides This is our time to feel, recognize and perhaps see these colors flowing through the auras of children birthing now and some already 5 years of age. Be the Keeper of their intent by opening to the unconditional Love of Change that is Source creating a new field in our awareness of Oneness.

7 Things NOT TO DO After a Meal 1. Don’t smoke - Tests have shown that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (your digestive system is in high gear). 2. Don’t eat fruits with or right after your meal - There is a chemical imbalance when fruit is eaten with food. Also, the fruit is stuck in the stomach along with the contents of the meals and cannot reach the intestines in time. Lying there they get putrid and may affect the remaining food in the stomach too. Thus it is recommended that you eat a fruit at least one hour after eating a meal or before your meal and preferably in the morning with empty stomach. It is in the morning that the body can best use the nutrients in the fruit and get enough energy to start the day. 3. Don’t drink tea – because tealeaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest. It is preferable to drink tea an hour after meals. 4. Don’t loosen your belt - Fiction, not particularly bad for you! We generally have an attitude that a good meal is that which forces us to loosen our belts. However, loosening the belt is bad, not because it causes the intestines to twist or block but because it means that you have over eaten to a level that you are uncomfortable. Loosening of the belt may also cause you to feel comfortable once again which means you may continue over eating. So eat only to the extent that you can
be comfortable without loosening your belt! 5. D o n ’ t b a t h e – bathing after meal will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach. 6. Don’t walk about - Fact, it is bad for you! Walking directly after meals is a bad idea; it can result to acid reflux and indigestion. However, walking about half an hour after meals is known to be good for you. researchers in the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina have found that walking after exercise is a good way to burn energy. The point to note is when to walk, you should ideally walk for about 10 minutes and only 20-30 minutes after meal to prevent acid reflux and stomach upsets. 7. Don’t sleep immediately – The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.
8 Foods That Help Lower Cholesterol
Avocados
Avocados contain significant amounts of oleic acid, a healthy monounsaturated fat that helps boost good cholesterol and lower bad. Avocados are also rich in fiber and a plant chemical called betasitosterol, both of which help keep cholesterol in check. Tip: Avocados significantly increase absorption of immunity-boosting antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables. Add a couple of slices of diced avocado to your next salad.
Lentils
one reason to love lentils is their cholesterolbusting fiber. The soluble fiber in lentils forms a sticky substance that traps cholesterol and helps move it out of the body. Lentils and their kissing cousins, black-eyed peas, kidney, Lima and navy beans, come by their reputation as heart protectors with good reason. Tip: Lentils sop up flavor like a sponge. Mix cooked lentils with some olive oil, balsamic or red vinegar, crushed garlic and parsley. Let stand for half an hour to meld the flavors, then spread on crackers.
Edamame
These young green soybeans with a buttery sweet taste are a protein powerhouse, rich in soluble fiber and high in isoflavones, a plant compound that brings down total blood levels of cholesterol. To

cook fresh Edamame, boil in lightly salted water for 3 to 5 minutes, cool by plunging into ice water, then drain. Many supermarkets sell them frozen.
Nuts
About 80 percent of calories in nuts come from fat, but it’s healthy unsaturated fat, not the arteryclogging kind. Nuts also are high in plant sterols, substances that block the absorption of cholesterol. Given these advantages, nuts are a natural for a heart-healthy diet. About an ounce and a half to two ounces a day should do it. Walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans and pistachios all confer benefits. So do peanuts, although they’re technically a legume and not a nut. Tip: Put a bag of unsalted nuts in a convenient spot in the kitchen, so it’s easy to grab a handful as you head out the door.
Pears
They’re crisp, sweet and their hefty cargo of natural fiber, much of it in the form of pectin, helps to knock down LDL levels. Surprisingly, fresh pears contain even more pectin than apples do. Pectin binds with cholesterol and ferries it out of the body before it can be absorbed. A medium-size pear provides 16 percent of the recommended daily value for fiber. Other pectin-rich fruits include apples, bananas, oranges and peaches. Tip: Don’t bother to peel pears. Their edible skin is an additional source of fiber. Simply wash before serving.
Tea
A cup of tea does more than soothe on a stressful day. both green and black tea can help lower cholesterol levels. Green tea is prepared from unfermented leaves and black tea from fully fermented leaves of the same plant. researchers believe that catechins, a type of antioxidant found in tea, are responsible for its cholesterol-lowering effect. The more fermented the tealeaves, the lower the catechin content and the higher the caffeine content.
Olive Oil
Tip: Black tea has two to three times the caffeine of green tea. If your preferred black tea keeps you awake at night, look for the decaffeinated form.
Tip: To bump up olive oil’s bad-cholesterol-lowering power, choose one labeled “extra-virgin.” This form is less processed and contains more heart-healthy antioxidants.
Ask for tomato sauce with your pasta if you want to keep your cholesterol under control. Tomatoes are a significant source of a plant compound called lycopene, which reduces levels of LDL cholesterol. research shows that the body absorbs more lycopene if the tomatoes are processed or cooked, so drink tomato juice and add tomatoes to your minestrone soup as well.
olive oil doesn’t just make food taste better. The unsaturated fats found in olive oil (and canola and walnut oil) have the added benefit of helping to cut LDL cholesterol levels without affecting HDL. Aim for about 2 tablespoons a day in place of other fats.

Cloves A Traditional Christmas Spice with Healing Properties
By D Holt
Cloves are often associated with Christmas recipes such as mulled wine and Christmas cake and not widely used in western culture or cuisine outside of the Christmas period. However, cloves have health benefits, which could be enjoyed the whole year round. Cloves are native to Indonesia but the region with the largest production is Zanzibar in eastern Africa. Cloves are the unopened pink flower buds of the evergreen clove tree. The buds are dried until they turn brown in color and they have a hard exterior but their flesh contains an oily compound high in eugenol. Eugenol has anti-viral, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anaesthetic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Cloves have been used for over 2000 years for digestive disorders, to treat tooth pain, arthritis and also for the alleviation of cravings for alcoholics. It has been found that eugenol can also help prevent toxicity from environmental pollutants such as carbon tetrachloride and prevent cancers in the digestive tract.
Cloves are a good source of minerals essential for health Cloves are a good source of manganese, selenium, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin K, dietary fiber and vitamin C. Manganese is an element that plays many essential roles in the body. It aids in the metabolism of proteins and helps activate enzymes needed for the body to use vitamin B1 (thiamin) and vitamin C, and is needed for normal functioning of the nervous system. Manganese is also involved in the formation of the thyroxine hormone in the thyroid gland, and in the production of sex hormones. Manganese also works as an antioxidant to help prevent cancer and heart disease. Selenium helps skin to heal following injuries sustained from burns. Selenium’s antioxidant properties regenerate vitamins E and C, and decrease aging of the skin. It improves the immune system’s response against bacterial and viral infections, cancer cells, herpes virus, cold sores, and shingles. One of the major nutritional benefits of selenium is changing the levels of HDL and LDL cholesterol for a healthy heart. Cloves taken as tea, in food or applied to the affected area as a paste can help with pain relief, indigestion, bloating and the symptoms associated with colds and flu such as congestion, headache, joint pain, muscle weakness and coughs. Cloves are best bought whole rather than as a powder; the oils in the clove can be seen if pressed with a nail and the best quality can be found in health shops and spice markets. A good clove will contain a spherical top inside the crown of the bud and will float vertically in water whereas a stale one will float horizontally. The tradition of using cloves in winter cooking may have started because the spice has a strong enough taste to cover up the taste of poorly preserved food. However, by consuming the spice in the winter it could also prevent the outbreaks of colds, flu and other viruses that also come as a tradition at wintertime.
D Holt has written over 200 articles in the field of alternative health and is currently involved in research in the UK into the mechanisms involved in healing due to meditation, hypnosis and spiritual healers and techniques. Celery Steer clear of celery just before bed. Celery and other foods with a high water content (cucumbers, watermelon, radishes and such) are natural diuretics that may cause you to wake in the middle of the night with a full bladder.
Tomatoes Tomatoes are rich in tyramine, an amino acid that triggers the brain to release norepinephrine, a stimulant that boosts brain activity and delays sleep. Other tyramine-rich foods include eggplant, soy sauce, red wine and aged cheeses, such as brie and Stilton. Countdown to bedtime: Not after dinner
Cheese Pizza Foods high in fat and fried foods take longer to digest and can cause discomfort that interferes with sleep. They can also reduce the effectiveness of some medications taken at night, says Alon Avidan, a neurologist and director of UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine Sleep Disorders Center.
Alcohol Although a nightcap or a glass of wine before bed may help you doze off quicker, it disrupts sleep later in the night and robs you of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Lack of REM sleep harms concentration, memory and motor skills.
Black-bean chili This dish could be a disaster if you eat it close to bedtime. The body has a hard time digesting beans, so stomach-rumbling gas pains will keep you from a good night’s sleep, says Helen Rasmussen, a research nutritionist at Tufts University.
Dark chocolate A small piece of dark chocolate each day helps keep your heart healthy — but don’t nibble it right before you go to bed. Dark chocolate (though not white chocolate), hot cocoa and tea all contain caffeine, and if you’re caffeinesensitive, you may find yourself staring at the ceiling instead of
Gumdrops A handful of gumdrops (or any candy) may cause your blood sugar levels to spike and then fall rapidly as the body releases insulin to bring them under control. You may fall asleep easily, but these fluctuations make it difficult to stay asleep.
Tacos A taco liberally sprinkled with hot sauce may set your taste buds tingling, but eating it within a few hours of lights-out can set you up for a bad case of heartburn and a restless night. Ditto for other spicy foods.
Steak Save the leftover slice of steak for lunch tomorrow. Foods high in protein and marbled fats, such as steak and roast beef, are slow to digest. If your body is busy digesting food, there’s more of a chance that you’ll have a restless night.
Carbonated soft drinks Caffeine, that sneak thief of sleep, can turn up in unexpected places, including root beer and lemon-lime soda. Added to a food or beverage, caffeine must be listed as an ingredient; if it occurs naturally (coffee, tea, chocolate), it doesn’t. Check the label.
Dagwood sandwich A heavy meal just before bed can rob you of the shut-eye you need. Allow at least three hours post-meal before you turn in so your body has a chance to digest the food and you don’t feel too uncomfortable to sleep.
Broccoli Broccoli is a nutrition powerhouse, but its slow-to-digest fiber will keep your body working hard into the night. Broccoli and its relatives cauliflower and brussels sprouts also contain an indigestible sugar that will produce large amounts of gas.

Ginger the Ultimate Brain Food Increase memory, reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and protect against multiple sclerosis with ginger… By Carolanne
G
inger root is a well-recognized health marvel, mending everything from inflammation to cancer to diabetes. But did you know that it can also improve brain function? In our demanding world, acute cognitive ability is essential. Fortunately, ginger is an outstanding ally in the quest for enhanced memory and clarity. Moreover, it plays a substantial role in guarding against brain oxidative stress and neurological disease. (NaturalNews)
Wonder remedy As a functional food, ginger is hard to beat. Used throughout the world as a delicious culinary ingredient, it also has a long track record of healing benefits. Ginger has been shown to: • Reduce pain • Prevent diabetes •Defeat cancer • Heal bacterial and fungal infections •Tame inflammation • Soothe nausea • Lessen the effect of toxic chemicals • Treat nonalcoholic fatty liver disease • Protect against radiation • Improve cardiovascular health • Defend against the risk of stroke • Curb migraine headaches And there’s more. Current research has shown ginger can help make you smarter and protect against neurological afflictions too. Brain boosting properties Research published in “Evidence Based Complementary Medicine” found that the consumption of ginger by middle-aged women improved cognitive ability. Sixty healthy participants were randomly given either a placebo or standardized ginger extract (400 and 800mg once per day) for two months. The volunteers were then evaluated at the one and two month mark for memory and cognitive function. Those who received the extract demonstrated a considerable increase in memory, while brain oxidative stress was reduced. Another study discovered ginger root helped minimize monosodium glutamate (MSG) neurotoxicity. After male albino rats were given a daily dose (4mg per kilogram) of pure MSG for thirty days, a significant decrease in the hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine, along with the brain neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, was observed. However, when an injection of ginger root extract (100mg per kilogram) was given for the same length of time, the hormones and neurotransmitters significantly increased. Researchers then found that when both were administered simultaneously, the extract mitigated the damaging effects of MSG - leading the team to conclude that ginger acts as a potent protective agent. As an excitotoxin, MSG is linked with Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, autism and attention deficit disorder. Whether contending with age-related cognitive decline or toxic food additives, ginger is an exceptional protective root. Including it in your daily diet is a powerful health affirming habit. Use it as a flavorful spice in cooking, freshly brewed as a tea or in extract form to help preserve brain and nerve health now and in the future.

Holistic Healing Breast Caner breast cancer isn’t just one disease—it comes in many variations. one of the main factors in determining the type of breast cancer is the sensitivity of the tumor cells to estrogen. If a breast tumor is hormone sensitive—or estrogen positive—it means there are specific estrogen receptors on the tumor cells, and when estrogen binds with these receptors, it transfers a message to the cancer cells. Like a lock and key effect, the breast tumor cells are stimulated by estrogen to grow and reproduce. Therefore, one of the main goals of therapy or intervention with hormonepositive cancer is to reduce hormonal stimulation as much as possible. Here are some key strategies: MainTain a HealTHY weiGHT The ovaries make estrogen during the years before menopause, but it’s also made in fat cells where enzymes convert other hormones to estrogens. After menopause, fat is the primary source of estrogen production in the body. This means weight is a critical factor in determining estrogen levels, for both preand post-menopausal women. Dietary choices and activities that promote a healthy weight are essential to any estrogen-reducing program. oPTiMize cHolesTerol New research has shown cholesterol byproducts are able to bind to estrogen receptors and stimulate tumor growth. Elevated cholesterol levels are associated with breast cancer. MiniMize exPoSUre to heavy MetalS Heavy metals, including copper, cobalt, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and lead have been found to stimulate estrogen receptors. Sources of arsenic include some brands of rice, seafood, and well water. Cadmium is high in cigarettes and can be found in some soils. Mercury is mainly prevalent in larger fish and old dental amalgams. And lead contamination is a component of air pollution, paint and dyes, and ceramic glazes, among other sources. Heavy metal and toxin exposure is difficult to completely avoid, even with careful choices. because of this, I advise my patients to use compounds that provide safe, gentle detoxification of heavy metals and other contaminants. Modified CitrUS PeCtin (MCP) has been shown in human studies to remove harmful heavy metals and reduce toxic body burden over time. MCP is able to cross the intestinal barrier
and circulate in the bloodstream, where it binds to toxins and heavy metals and helps safely excrete them—without removing essential minerals. I also recommend alpha lipoic acid, N-acetyl cysteine, garlic, cilantro, and other herbs and nutrients that provide support for the body’s complex detoxification systems. avoid additiveS Many chemicals used in agriculture, body care products, food packaging, and plastic water bottles are estrogenic, called “xenoestrogens” or “estrogen mimics.” In addition to binding with estrogen receptors, these toxins are fat soluble, so they tend to accumulate in fat cells. We know breast tissue has a high concentration of fat, particularly after menopause. Studies have shown breast milk often contains dangerous levels of these chemicals. reduce exposure by avoiding plastic food and beverage containers, canned foods, and body products that contain these toxins. For a list of chemicals to watch out for, visit the Environmental Working Group site (ewg.org). diet and eStrogen levelS Determining the effects that specific foods have on breast cancer risk and protection is an active area of research, with a number of controversies still unresolved. What we do know is this: the Bad regular alcohol use increases breast cancer risk. In an excellent literature review, 20 studies pointed to a positive connection between alcohol and breast cancer, through multiple effects on hormonal systems and genetic signaling. Fatty red meat has been associated with increased breast cancer, especially meats cooked at high temperature. A 2008 study of more than 15,000 women found that high-fat food choices were significantly associated with increased cancer risk. Among other negative effects, fat intake increases estrogen levels. Sugar intake increases IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor), which is associated with increased estrogen. A 2013 study found that intake of highfat dairy, but not low-fat dairy, was related to a higher risk of mortality after breast cancer diagnosis. the good Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli,
cauliflower, kale, and collards, contain a wealth of beneficial compounds, including diindolylmethane (DIM), which promotes healthy estrogen metabolism. The botanical breast health supplement breastDefend contains DIM, and has been shown in multiple studies to strategically support breast health. Flaxseed facilitates removal of estrogens and improves the ratio of good and bad estrogens—2:16 alpha hydroxyestrone (AHE). These are metabolites of the parent estrogen; too much of the 16 AHE is highly stimulatory. A high fiber diet promotes the binding of estrogens in the colon, thus reducing estrogen exposure. Fiber also promotes healthy bacterial populations and enhances satiety, helping to keep weight in a healthy range. Green tea is a true star in terms of its anticancer properties, with many studies on its multiple anticancer mechanisms. PhytoeStrogenS and Soy: the deBate Phytoestrogens are compounds that have a mild estrogenic effect and are found in whole grains, nuts, and seeds, as well as many other botanicals, fruits, and vegetables. These foods are associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer as well as reduced cancer recurrence. The controversy becomes heated in the debate over soy-containing foods. This issue is complex, with some studies showing that eating soy early in life can reduce breast cancer risk. on the other hand, consumption of concentrated soy extracts showed increased proliferation of breast cancer cells. Finally, other studies show a protective or neutral effect from whole soy foods.

walnuts. And diversify your diet to minimize your reliance on animal protein sources. Any animal protein you do eat should be lean, organic, and grass fed to avoid potential chemical and hormonal additives. And completely avoid sugar and processed foods. by understanding the ways that estrogen levels increase, and other ways in which these receptors can be stimulated, we can make wise choices and engage in activities that will minimize activation of estrogen receptors in breast cells. We can also boost overall vitality in the process—a win/win situation. Garden of Life Super Seed Beyond Fiber helps clear away excess estrogens with a blend of fiber from grains, legumes, and seeds (including flaxseeds). Natural Factors Alpha-Lipoic Acid works synergistically with vitamins C and E to protect cells from oxidative stress from the inside and out. Nature’s Way DIM-Plus promotes healthy estrogen metabolism with 100 mg of diindolylmethane along with vitamin E and a cruciferous vegetable blend. Akunaga Kyolic Aged Garlic Cholesterol Formula 104 combines Aged Garlic Extract and lechithin to support healthy cholesterol levels, which may protect breasts.
My recommendation for soy is to eat whole soy foods in moderation—no more than a few servings per week, preferably fermented soy foods such as miso or tempeh. Avoid soy protein isolates and supplements containing concentrated soy isoflavones. other dietary tiPS Keep your vitamin D levels in the high normal range with some sun exposure and appropriate supplementation. vitamin D beneficially influences a large number of genes involved in the regulation of cell growth and metabolism. Living Astrology Welcome In Lght Times readers. My name is Janet Hickox and I am thrilled to be a part of such a great publication. As you may know, each astrologer has their own unique way of reading the stars and providing information to those seekers of knowledge. So, as we begin a new chapter together, I invite you into my world of Living Astrology. I'm here to answer any questions you may have.In the meantime, enjoy this month's column and the insights it brings. So, let's begin. November is an 11 month in a 7 Universal year making November a 9 month (11+2014=18/9) of Completions, Higher Awareness and Creativity.
Happy Birthday
scorpio (10-23 to 11-21) & sagittarius (11-22 to 12-20)! November begins a transition to a completely different energy and is notably calmer than October as we steer past the Mercury Retrograde and the Lunar & Solar Eclipses. There are a couple of bumps along the way, but the mainstream energy for this month seems to be about letting go of all the rationalizations, logical thinking and fears from the past that have prevented us from launching our Passions, Purpose, and Creativity out into the world! We’ve spent an inordinate amount of time in the dark and it is definitely time to get illuminated!! It makes me feel like singing the line from the Kelly Clarkson’s song, “Out of the Darkness and into the Sun!” Can we finally move past those anchors we have to old beliefs and the story about our past so that as we near 2015 – which is an 8 year of Abundance – we are ready to shine? I believe we can and will. Things to watch out for this month: Mars conjuncts Pluto on the 10th which can bring us into conflict between what we know we must do to move forward, and the fear we have about doing just that. Whether this is an inner conflict or an outer test to our newborn passions, don’t make rash decisions or judgments about what to do. Just breathe and let the fear pass or better yet, make peace with the conflict by realizing it is just a mirror to show you where you might still be needing work to be the best YOU. Mars squares Uranus on the 12th and creates positive movement forward through possibly surprising inspirations and realizations for us. That’s why giving up during the Mars – Pluto conjunction will not serve you at all. Neptune turns Direct on the 16th changing our intuitive landscape by making it a little more difficult to “tune-in.” When Neptune is in retrograde motion we more easily access our intuitive self, but if we chose not to listen to that inner guidance during the retrograde, Neptune’s direct motion may create a situation where we regret not having listened. Now it may be a little more difficult to tune in to that intuitive voice through the chorus of energies surging through the chart. Meditation is a good tool to get us in touch with our intuition again. The Moon cycle this month: The Full Frost Moon or Beaver Moon is November 6 at 14° Scorpio/Taurus. Meaning of Sun during full moon: The mental evolution that it takes in order to connect to our future self. Meaning of the Moon at this time: Building character by moving forward fearlessly; The New Moon is November 22 at 0° Sagittarius. Meaning of the Moon: Abstraction – seeing ourselves as part of a larger organism and making decisions that are good for us and ultimately good for everyone. november through the signs ~ Remember to read the information for your Sun sign, Moon sign and Rising Sign to get a better idea of what is coming up for you.
aries • Mar. 21 to apr. 19
The energy for you is possibly explosive as Mars adds its energy to the ongoing Pluto-Uranus square that has been sitting at your Career/Profession House and your Personal Self. Life has been interesting – no doubt! This month should bring you some clarity or a feeling of being able to see the “light at the end of the tunnel” that leads you to your new beginning. Be willing to release whatever is not going to support you on this journey.
Taurus • apr. 20 to May 20
You may have been experiencing a spiritual overhaul or revolution, and the feeling for you of coming out of the dark is very real. With Uranus pressuring your 12th House of the Hidden Subconscious Patterns, you may be having one “aha” after another about what has been the root cause of repeating patterns, limiting thinking, self-sabotage and fears that have held you back. Mars, adding its energy to Pluto in your 9th House of Spirit, elevates your perspective, and like a phoenix rising up out of the ashes, you too may undergo a striking transformation!
GeMini • May 21 to June 20
You may have been struggling to transform your reality to match the vision you have been holding for life – especially as it relates to what you do in the world, i.e. Career or Profession. Well, this month you have help arriving to make things a little clearer. Mars, added to your 8th House of Transformation gets things moving in the right direction and Neptune, moving Direct in your 10th House of Career/Profession, means you can stop the dreaming part of your visioning and begin the action steps it takes to get there. One step at a time though, you’re just getting the party started. Things will really roll as you get into December and January.
cancer • June 21 to July 22
Relationships may have been tricky for you of late, and this month, with the addition of Mars to your 7th House of Relationships, things can be a little more confrontational. Take it easy, dear Cancer, as this is a time for you to form relationships that are mutually empowering and supportive. The house of relationships also pertains to business relationships, and with Uranus still in your 10th House of Career/ Profession it may be business partners that are the sources for change and upset. Let your intuition lead you to the correct way to handle any relationships in your life.
Leo • July 23 to aug. 22
Have you been on a spiritual revelation or what? Notice I said revelation and not revolution. Uranus has been in your 9th House of Beliefs-Spirit-Philosophy for a while now, with Pluto-Mars in your 6th House of Work, Service and Health. You may be very aware that a transformation is needed in your life, but up until now you weren’t clear just how that would happen or how that would look. My guess is that this month, you will be able to “see” the way through to the change you have wanted in your life. Go with the flow Leo, don’t let yourself stay stuck!
virGo • aug. 23 to sept 22
The Uranus, Mars, Pluto trio has you in the midst of change this month, Virgo! It feels as if you can no longer tolerate mediocrity, and you’re plunging straight into what feels good, following your passions and desires instead of doing what you “have to.” There is a real sense of freedom coming for you as we near 2015. One little warning though; keep your eyes wide open when it comes to relationships as Neptune is moving forward in your 7th House of Relationships revealing much about the nature of the people who are, or who have been closest to you.
LiBra • sept. 23 to oct. 22
Are you reaching new heights of stability at home and in your relationships? The eclipses may have brought issues up to the light of day to be cleared, and now you can see your way into a more loving, kind, and balanced relationship! Libra loves balance and harmony, and lately things may have been a little rocky for you, so this comes as a welcome shift. Don’t overlook health issues during November. If something doesn’t feel right in your body, definitely see your health care professional. Be sure to eat right, get enough rest and move your body.
scorpio • oct. 23 to nov. 21
Scorpio, in another month you will be free of Saturn that has been sitting in your 1st House of Self. You have probably gone through a lot of emotional ups and downs during the last 2 ½ years and are ready to be free. If you are one of the Scorpios that has resisted letting go of the debris in your emotional field over the last couple of years, then you may be in for some emotionally induced health issues. Free yourself of old, outworn beliefs, grudges, emotional pain and see a return to the wonderfully creative and passionate side of yourself.
saGiTTarius • nov. 22 to dec. 21
It seems that your financial picture has been undergoing a rebuilding process over the last few years. Perhaps your job crumbled away with the economic downturn a few years back, or maybe you just decided that making a change was necessary for you. I say, keep it up! With Uranus in your 5th House of Joy, Creativity & Passion, it’s up to you to design your life around exactly those three things. Pressures on the home front may cloud that up a bit for you over the next month, but don’t worry, by mid-month you will be seeing things clearly again.
capricorn • dec. 22 to Jan. 19
When Pluto, the planet of Power & Transformation is moving through the 1st House of the Self, it makes for personal revolution and empowerment, and Capricorn you are being revolutionized and empowered!! Mars will be activating Pluto in your chart to encourage the emergence of a new, authentic YOU. This may be a time you – your intuitive when your usual caution can be let go of in favor of following the earthly . Neptune in this nication Commu of House 3rd your in self, especially as Neptune is sitting into your mind. self higher the from es messag bringing iary, intermed the as acting is configuration
aquarius • Jan. 20 to Feb. 18
Pluto has been in a challenging place and now Mars the planet of Action, Conflict and Confrontation joins him in your 12th House of the Subconscious Mind, Self-sabotage, Limitations and Fears. If ever there was a time for you to be objective and aloof, now is that time. Don’t allow yourself to attach to the depth of what you may be experiencing. Be the observer, allow the truth to unfold, and love yourself through this time. You may discover deeply held beliefs about yourself that you can get free from, as well as some deeply ingrained Truths you want to carry forward. Journaling is a powerful tool that helps you access your subconscious.)
pisces • Feb. 19 to March 20
The very compassion and love that you are always willing to give to others is now needing to be given to yourself. Your ruling planet, Neptune, is in your 1st House of the Self, and I would bet that you are learning the lessons of Self-Love. You’ll be receiving a boost in this area of your life after November 16th when Neptune turns back to forward motion. Uranus in your 2nd House helps in establishing a new sense of self-worth and value for you. Perhaps you may even learn the value of healthy boundaries this month!

Hadar & Orion Ent. llc 702-541-3699 At the heart of Hadar & Orion Enterprises, are its founders, soul sisters Esther Brown and Deborah Reyes, who met in Las Vegas while working with youth caught in cycles of violence. While sharing a passion for helping what most would consider hopeless antisocial adolescents, they develop unique programs that bring troubled youth overseas where they serve as humanitarians for others in need. Upon returning home, these seemingly impossible to reform youth find love and higher purpose within themselves. Visit www.theembrcingproject.org. The company was consciously created with the purpose to generate resources to greatly expand this humanitarian work on a global scale. Hadar & Orion will launch its first EGOFRIENDLY DESIGNS fashion line “Gifts from Gaia” in spring 2015. A percentage of all proceeds from these crystal infused bohemian chic clothes designed to inspire and uplift all who wear them, will directly support youth and families that Esther and Deborah work with locally and abroad.
