I remember when, at the “ripe” old age of 15, I knew exactly what I would do with my life…I knew, with great conviction, that God had something special planned for me. So began my journey.

So, what did you start out aspiring to become? Was it beimg a fireman or policeman? Maybe a nurse or doctor was your calling. An artist, a farmer, a pilot or maybe even an astronaut was in your future. Often, the seeds we plant in our minds dictates our destiny. What were your visions growing up? Have they been updated or set aside? Do you recall the movie, “The Bucket List”? It’s where two men find one another and explore all the desires they wanted to experience. So they set off across country to fulfill their dreams. A romantic idea to say in the least. However, the thought of a “bucket list” is most intriguing. I ask you, would your bucket be large or small? What would you place within it? What are your aspirations? For me, the little kid inside, wants to play the game. I think my bucket would be huge because of all the things I would love to experience. A show on Broadway, traveling the world, a cruise, visiting the Seven Wonders of the World, going on a safari are just a few of my dreams. Experiencing an ashram for a month or so would be cool! There are so many opportunities around us that can lead to fulfilling our hopes, desires and visions … we just have to grab on and not let go of what is important to us; whether is takes a year, twenty years or a lifetime. Arriving at or completing the journey will do wonders in the evolution of the mind. Challenging ourselves to complete our “bucket list” will perhaps be one of the greatest gifts we can give to ourselves. Live life with wild abandon, don’t sweat the small stuff (it’s all small stuff), have fun with where you are and may your bucket list always contain something new to accomplish. Happy adventures! Blessings my friends…enjoy what you have created! Take care, be well. In Love & Light,

Debby Wright

S

Debby Wright is a Renaissance woman who enjoys life to its fullest

he is the innovator who co-created and now runs the operations of Four Seasons Dental & Med Spa in Summerlin. Debby grew up in a very modest home in the suburbs of Chicago. She began professional modeling due to being an unusually tall, gangly girl, at twelve years of age. Later, as a graduate of Gemological Institute of America, she designed beautiful jewelry for a high-end store and went on to start her own fine jewelry store, where she served private clients for close to twenty years. For the past ten years, she has been studying holistic health, natural healing, and anti-aging with doctors and scientists, as a result of her marriage to holistic and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Jim Wright. Day spa owner Jamie Lee Metz says, “She is a middle of the night friend, who will do whatever it takes to support a friend”. A leader and entrepreneur extraordinaire, a supporter of almost any charity who makes a request, Debby has another side. She became a certified life coach years ago with the intention of studying with masters and wisdom teachers in order to transform her life after losing an adoption of twins, and going thru a dark night of the soul. Debby lives in Summerlin, with the love of her life, Jim, who she calls Dr. Angel and their dog family; Oberon, Rainee, Lovey and Zina. She is the official Aunt to a Zebra “Partner” and a very tall, (18 hands high) horse, “Dublin”, who she describes as a beautiful, loving spirit. Her 95-year-old Mother Margie lives almost next door. ILT: Debby, you consider yourself a Renaissance woman, how so? DW: I love it all. ILT: As a world traveler soaring thru the clouds, while learning to fly your Beechcraft Bonanza, what was your most memorable experience? DW: I realized that I love the destinations. Seeing the beautiful California coastline, the amazing Blue Grotto in Capri Italy, visiting Chateau Margaux and the Louvre in France, having a drink at the bar Hemingway frequented…that is what I love. ILT: You have accomplished many goals in life. What is your highest achievement that surprised you? DW: The high and the low… Jumping a 5-foot fence on my horse and scuba diving close to 100 feet below the surface of the ocean. ILT: As a life coach, what do you find clients are most stressed about and what solutions do you offer? DW: I learned the Socratic method, named after the Greek philosopher Socrates. While asking questions is far more time consuming and requires a great deal of patience, it can produce amazing results. Not giving answers or solutions, allows the client to engage in a discussion stimulates critical thinking and gives them access to personal growth and enlightenment in their journey. ILT: Debby, have you had an “AH-Ha” event/experience in your life that was enlightening and inspirational which had a major impact on your outlook and expectations of life? Would you share it with our readers? DW: As a child I had premonitions and my parents realized that I had psychic gifts, which they encouraged with flash card type practice. As an adult, my intuitive and psychic gifts have continued to be apparent to those I work and live with. I have been blessed

PAGE 6 • august, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

to clearly hear God speak his wisdom. It is an honor to share two of the phrases, which have most affected my life. “Come From Love” in all that you do, which is the mantra that I teach and use myself when life is challenging. I realized two things run the world, Love and hate? No … fear lives under hate. So, when I check in to see what is going on, I know if it is not Love, it is fear. While most of the conversations with God have been in modern English, “As you speak it, so shall it be” stands out, as it feels like language from a time gone by. Translation; Be very careful of what comes out of your mouth. Words are very powerful. ILT: You have created such a great success blending the most current technology and holistic health methods in both the dental and med spa. What inspired this? DW: I was afraid of the Dentist as a child! Combining holistic dentistry with a relaxing spa environment was the opposite of fear. Holistic dentistry brings alternatives; cosmetic smiles without grinding down natural teeth, and toxins such as mercury are removed safely and replaced with BPA free filling materials. Many people find their health improves. ILT: I know in our conversations that you enjoy good food. What are two of your favorite restaurants and dishes? DW: We absolutely love Mundo restaurant, down by the Smith center. George Harris has created a true Mexican steak house, every dish is excellent, the service is outstanding and its eclectic décor is fresh and inviting. Our other favorite is Mastrioni’s. Two of our favorites are Pete’s family recipes. They are not on the menu so tell your waiter, “Dr. Wright told me to order the best lasagna and home-made meatballs on the planet”. ILT: Debby, one last question. If you could sum up in a few words, what would you like our readers to know? DW: As long as we are alive we can choose and make changes. A great teacher once taught me that, at the end of your life, the only thing that matters is, Who You Love and Who Loves You!

AUGUST Gemstone

The Birthstone for August is Peridot, and is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color, an olive green. It is also known as Chrysolite and Olivine. The intensity and tint of the green, however, depends on how much iron is contained in the crystal structure, so the color of individual Peridot gems can vary from yellow to olive to brownish-green. The most valued color is a dark olive-green. They have an almost luminescent look and the mining is often performed at night as the “glowing” green is easier to see. Peridot is said to emit a warm and friendly energy. It can be used to magnify the inner aspects of any situation or circumstance. Peridot may be used to cleanse and stimulate the heart and solar plexus chakras, bringing openness and acceptance in the intellectual pursuit of matters of love and relationships. Peridot is a common mineral in mafic and ultramafic rocks, and is often found in lavas and in peridotite xenoliths (rich in iron) of the mantle, which lavas carry to the surface; but gem quality Peridot only occurs in a fraction of these settings. Peridot can also be found in meteorites. Peridot in general is a very abundant mineral, but gem quality Peridot is rather rare. This mineral is precious. Peridot Gemstone Meaning A tiny island known as Zabargard (owned by Egypt) is documented as the first source of Peridot, dating back as far as four thousand years. Early Crusaders

who visited St. John’s Island (now called Zabargard) introduced this gem to Europe upon returning from battle. Peridot is mentioned in many ancient references as chrysolite. It is mentioned throughout the Bible, and early Christians considered it sacred. Today still, Catholic Bishops traditionally wear a ring of Peridot and amethyst as a symbol of purity and morality. The Peridot was believed to be a stone of springtime by ancients who considered it a gift from Mother Nature. Napoleon once made a gift of Peridot to Josephine as a symbol of undying love and admiration. In ancient times, it was said that a dream about Peridot foretold impending danger. Healing Qualities Of Peridot Peridot is a stone of lightness and beauty. Only spiritual or clear-minded persons should use Peridot. The person with too many earthly problems will not be able to understand the beauty of the Peridot. The very spiritual can wear Peridot in a necklace with the stone at the base of the throat to feel its soothing effect. Used in a necklace, Peridot is a protector against negative emotions. It also helps to regulate cycles in one’s life: e.g. physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and life cycles. Peridot has been known to have healing effect on the gall bladder and liver. Peridot olivine is mined in Egypt, North Carolina, Arizona on the San Carlos Reservation, Hawaii, Nevada, and New Mexico at Kilbourne Hole, in the US; and in Australia, Brazil, China, Kenya, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Norway, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. In meteorites, Peridot crystals have been collected from some Pallasite meteorites. A famous Pallasite was offered for auction in April 2008 with a requested price of close to $3 million at Bonham’s, but remained unsold. It is sometimes mistaken for emeralds and other green gems. In fact, notable gemologist, George Frederick Kunz discussed the confusion between emeralds and peridots in many church treasures, notably the “Three Magi” treasure in the Dom of Cologne, Germany. The largest cut Peridot olivine is a 310 carat (62 g) specimen in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.

ometimes I look around my house and all I see are projects. The light fixture in the living room needs to be rewired, leaves are clogging the rain gutters, and the Hibiscus hedge is due for a trimming. That’s just the beginning. For every project I get into, I notice three more to be done. This is a never-ending process. The day will never come when I will step back, look at my home, and say, “There—it’s done.” When I saw the film Shining Night, (InnerHarmony.com) I received a reprieve from the onus of keeping the house perfect. This inspiring documentary about Morten Lauridsen, one of the world’s most gifted composers of chorale music, shows Mr. Lauridsen creating in his summer studio in the Pacific Northwest. I was struck by the humble, less-than-wellkept-up cottage in which this master creates his heavenly compositions. The house’s exterior paint is peeling, he composes on a slightly-out-oftune piano, and creature comforts are minimal. The cottage is a launch pad for music that heals. Morten Lauridsen cares more about his music than the building in which he composes it. A Course in Miracles offers a striking metaphor for the contrast between spirit and form. In a section called, “The Two Pictures” (Text, Chapter 17) we are offered two pictures and two frames. One is, “surrounded by a frame so heavy and so elaborate that the picture is almost obliterated by its imposing structure. Into the frame are woven all sorts of fanciful and fragmented illusion. The glitter of blood shines like rubies, and the tears are faceted like diamonds and gleam in the dim light. Look at the

picture. Do not let the frame distract you. The frame is not the gift.” Then the course suggests another picture, the beauty of which far outshines the frame: “… if you accept this gift you will not see the frame at all, because the gift can only be accepted through your willingness to focus all your attention on the picture.” The only purpose of a house, car, technological device, or body is to serve as a vehicle for the expression of love. As long as the form is a venue for the spirit, it is useful. When the form ceases to serve the spirit, or the spirit ends up serving the form, the system becomes dysfunctional, it will engender pain, and dissolve. When any relationship, organization, institution, corporation, government, or religion ceases to help its constituents and begins to exist only to prolong itself, it has outlived its usefulness. The entire universe is set up to support life; when the spirit becomes absent, the form has no purpose and must disappear. The good news is that for every form that dies because the spirit is no longer present, a new form will live because the spirit has taken up residence there. Spirit cannot be killed. When you move with the river of life, you will always be alive and everything you do will flourish. Consider your home, career, relationship, and any organization in which you participate, and ask yourself, “Is this bringing me greater life, or is it draining life from me?” “Am I looking at a picture that heals and empowers me, or have I become entrapped in a gaudy frame?” While such introspection can be challenging, it is the door to healing and freedom. For many years I have attended and taught manifestation workshops—

PAGE 8 • august, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

how to get stuff. As I observe my own life and the lives of people who have manifested lots of stuff, I notice that we eventually became more interested in the de-manifestation workshop—getting rid of the stuff we have accumulated that we don’t need. At a farmer’s market I was tempted to purchase a beautiful blown glass dolphin with a soft gold veneer. Then I thought, “Do I really want one more thing to keep somewhere, clean, protect, and then store in the garage?” I asked Dee if she wanted me to get it for her. “I don’t think we need any more stuff,” she replied. We shared a contented smile and walked on. Morten Lauridsen’s humble cottage is lowly to the eye, but a cathedral to the soul. The music he generates there, free from the distraction of upkeep, will change the world and bless it far longer than his cottage will. One day his cottage will fall to dust. His music will stream through the ages. As a result of Mr. Lauridsen’s example, I have a new attitude toward my house and my possessions. My home has

become my friend, not my intimidator. When I look at the leaves in the gutter, I know I will get to them. But for now I will get to my writing, my beloved, and my family. The Hibiscus flowers are gifts, not obligations. I am not against stuff. I am for enough stuff. The good stuff. The appropriate stuff. The stuff that is truly helpful. If you love something, it is enhancing your life, and you are using it for upliftment, it is holy stuff. If it is cumbersome or bringing you down in any way, you cannot afford it. May all of your frames only enhance all of your magnificent pictures. Alan Cohen is the author of many inspirational books, including Enough Already: The Power of Radical Contentment. Enlightening Views

How To Center Yourself WATCH YOUR DIET

Notice what foods feel good, which do not. Your body will tell you what it requires. Usually, denser foods—meat, chicken, fishhave more of a grounding effect than grains, vegetables, or fruit. I’m not a big meat eater but if my body announces, “I need a hamburger,” I will devour one. Listen to your body’s signals. Notice how they fluctuate.

DO MUNDANE TASKS

Mindfully focusing on everyday chores can bring you back to your body. Grocery shopping, going to the bank, paying bills, washing clothes, taking out the trash, or cleaning the yard can be grounding. These activities anchor you in the hereand-now by drawing on the luminous nature of the ordinary.

PRACTICE ANONYMOUS SERVICE

Do something nice for someone without taking credit for it. Hold the elevator for a little old lady. Let someone go before you in line. Serve food to the homeless. Give a charitable donation. Anything that shifts the focus from you to helping others. No deed is too small. The act of giving—especially when you’re most frazzled—opens your heart, is regenerative.

SPEND TIME IN NATURE

As poet William Wordsworth put it, civilization can be “too much with us.” People, cars, the news, telephone cables matting the sky; all can keep us from our bodies, divorce us from what is natural. Regularly take at least a few hours out from your routine. Visit the beach, a forest, a canyon, a river. Choose a spot that moves you. Aboriginals seek out windswept plains for purification. Native Americans go to fresh streams to clarify their inner vision. (Any water source, including a bath or shower, can cleanse and purify.) Tibetan monks pilgrimage to mountaintops. Allow yourself to draw on the Earth’s primordial forces. Savor the beauty of a twilight, sunset, or dawn. Let them nourish and restore you.

MEDITATE

Sitting in meditation is a life-line to your center, to the Earth. By calming the mind, you can re-align with your essence. Close your eyes. Focus on your breath. Then gently extend your awareness downward to strata, bedrock, minerals, and soil. From the base of your spine begin to feel a continuity with the Earth’s core. Picture having a long tail that roots in that center. Allow the Earth’s energy to infuse your body and stabilize you. If you meditate for five minutes or an hour this is sacred time.

Secret Garden

Instead of looking with regret, instead of...

W

looking with fear, anger, pain, and sadness, try looking at your life from a perspective that the whole thing is divinely orchestrated

hen

I was 10 years old, my mother remarried and she was able to reunite our family for the first time since I was a baby. My slightly older brother Dave and I had lived in foster homes together all those years. There we were at last, all under the same roof again, my wonderful mother, my not-so-wonderful alcoholic stepfather, my oldest brother, Jim, whom I barely knew, Dave and me. We lived in a tiny duplex that year that I entered the 4th grade at Chester Arthur School. My teacher Mrs. Engel had a rule that if the class was quiet and well-behaved, she would read aloud to us from 2:45 until 3:10 when it was time to go home. I took it upon myself to be the classroom enforcer and keep the other kids in line because I really wanted to hear that story. (Here’s where I first learned that I could influence people when coming from a positive place.)

Mrs. Engel was reading to us from The Secret Garden. Does anyone remember that classic children’s book? It was written by British author Frances Hodgson Burnett and first published in 1911. I loved being read to and I really loved this story about a little orphan girl named Mary. Mary goes to live with her uncle in the English countryside and, with two new friends, she discovers a lost rose garden that magically heals their lives. The Secret Garden is really about a secret place in each one of us—a place that we can escape to, a place where we can do anything, create anything we want for ourselves. We can make the world come alive, we can create miracles. I, too, had a secret garden that enabled me to deal with the instability of my life, all the places and people I had had to adjust to. I had some crazy experiences as a little boy, some of it abusive and nasty—some of it wonderful and great. I just kept getting new experiences all the time, but somehow I always knew that I could go within and get quiet and be and do anything. I think that knowing had something to do with the way my life has gone—writing 41 books, all about the power of the mind to enable us to be and do, to create anything we want for ourselves. Whatever the divine power is that is moving the checkers of life around, it all fits together. That divine power saw someone who wanted to teach self-reliance and gave him a life as an orphan. I was also given a brother, older but smaller and weaker, who needed to be taken care of. This is how I’ve come to look at my life—the way all the pieces seem to fit together. I’m asking you to look at your life like this, too. Instead of looking with regret, instead of looking with fear, anger, pain, and sadness, try looking at your life from a perspective that the whole thing is divinely orchestrated. It’s the most amazing shift. Wayne W. Dyer, PH.D., is an internationally renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development. Just Blow It Up!

I think it’s time for all of us to “blow up the box” of old beliefs…

I

recently suggested to someone that he consider “outside-thebox” thinking to break free of old beliefs, habits, and fears that were holding him back. I first read about stepping outside the box of your usual comfort zone in Susan Jeffers’ book, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway. Basically, when we step outside our comfort zone, even though it may initially seem scary, we soon create a new, expanded comfort zone with new possibilities. The cycle continues as we grow and evolve in consciousness. Back to the gentleman I suggested this approach to. After hearing what he considered “outside-the-box” thinking, I realized he was simply expanding on existing thought patterns and behaviors, i.e., he was just trying to make his existing box larger. So the suffering and upset were still there…only bigger. I realized I should have said, “Take the box and blow it up!” Blow up the old ways that no longer serve you, blow up old response patterns, blow up fears that have held you back for so long. I know it sounds a bit radical, yet I keep seeing people hold back from making true breakthroughs because they’re clutching their old boxes, even when trying to venture into new possibilities.

Just becoming aware of what holds you back from experiencing a greater life is huge! It helps you become conscious so that every time you catch yourself in an old belief or habit, you can stop and ask yourself, “What do I see about this thought or action?” “What belief or action would serve me better?” Ask trusted friends or mentors for help. If you believe in a higher power, surrender and ask for divine guidance and support. A ritual of burning up the box may help with your transformation process. I think it’s time for all of us to “blow up the box” of old beliefs and habits, release the suffering and angst that hold us back, and open our lives to joy and peace. I’m willing. How about you?

Boxes were very much on my mind when I went to India recently for a spiritual retreat. Even before I left the US, I had a strong mental image of blowing up some of my own boxes. While in India, I had the opportunity to look into several of those boxes. Some were already pretty much cleaned out—a few painfully via “dark-night-of-the-soul” experiences, others more gently through study and introspection. I also found boxes where I still had old fears and beliefs safely stored away. I realized too that I had boxes with beliefs and habits which were once beneficial but were now inviting me to take a close look at their contents. Perhaps you find yourself at similar crossroads. Either you want to make radical changes because life isn’t working or life’s fairly good—yet you know it can be better. So how do we blow up the old boxes? One thing is certain, it’s not by doing the same thing over and over again with more gusto. It’s not about working harder or longer at the same thing. It’s not about adding activities to a plate already overflowing. And it’s not about pointing at other people or outer circumstances as the cause of your discomfort, suffering, or even joy. It is about taking a close look at some of your most closely held beliefs and habits, shining a conscious light on them, being willing to totally discard those that do not serve you, and trusting something better is waiting to support you in claiming a better life. It is about recognizing that often you need help. And it is about liberation and surrender. Let’s look at the closely held beliefs and habits. Reflecting back over our lives, we can generally identify where our beliefs came from. It begins in the home, with whatever religious tradition we’re brought up in, and at school. It continues at work and in our social groups. Some of us grow up believing it is bad to lie and cheat. Others are taught such things are simply the way of the world. If you want to take a look at your own boxes, you can begin by taking an inventory of the beliefs and habits in the “comfort zone” box you inhabit. Make a list. For each item (whether you consider it positive or negative), ask yourself, “Is this belief true? Does this belief or habit serve me in reaching my highest and best?” If you’re not sure, take the question into meditation or ask a trusted friend. Write down all the beliefs and habits that no longer serve you and place them in an actual physical box. IN LIGHT TIMES • august, 2013 • PAGE 11

Keep Your Dog Cool in Summer

K

with 10 DIY Home Remedies to Prevent Overheating

By JB Bardot

eep your dog cool as summer sizzles its way back into season. Summer signals the time when dogs are ready for hiking, fetching, and other outdoor play. Hot summer days can be deadly to our pets unless we protect them from overheating from heat stroke. Early signs are excess panting, weakness, confusion, increased salivation, dark red gums and seizures. Keep your dog cool and prevent overheating with a variety of home remedies and common sense actions.

Prevent and alleviate heat stroke in dogs naturally 1. Keep your dog cool and well hydrated with fresh water at all times. Freeze a large block of ice and leave outside in the shade to keep the dog cool. If you’re traveling with your dog, take water with you in a dog thermos with an attached drinking bowl. 2. If your pet becomes over heated, keep your dog cool by getting him into the shade or into an air-conditioned place. Provide a raised doghouse in the shade as a retreat; making sure it’s well ventilated. 3. Keep your dog cool if she becomes overheated by wrapping cloths soaked in cold water around her paws, in her arm pits and on the back of her head. Run cold water so her skin is continually in contact with the cold; and place a fan in front of your dog to promote cooling evaporation, writes veterinarian Nate Baxter, DVM. 4. Trickle small amounts of cool water from a teaspoon onto the tongue of any dog that is panting or has collapsed from heat exhaustion. Small amounts of water help keep the dog cool through evaporation. Do not allow water to work its way down the throat if the dog is unconscious. Seek medical attention immediately for an unconscious dog.

with the windows open. Dogs will overheat in just a few minutes. If the outside temperature is 80 degrees, then a car will heat to over 110 degrees in a matter of 15 minutes and could kill your dog. 6. Stake your overheated dog on a chain in the shade briefly after going for a swim to promote evaporation and cooling. Give him water and allow him to cool and dry before putting him in a crate. 7. Buy a pet bed meant to keep your dog cool. These beds are elevated and made from mesh to allow ventilation. Alternatively, provide pet beds that have cooling coils in them or places to tuck cold packs to keep your dog cool in summer. 8. Coat your dog’s paw pads with Musher’s Secret or similar product to protect them when walking on searing hot pavement. This is special oil that protects paws without inhibiting sweating. 9. Apply rubber paw pads or light weight booties to protect her feet and keep your dog cool when on hot pavement or beach sand. 10. Give homeopathic remedies to help an overheated dog recover from heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

5. Never leave your dog in an enclosed car during summer, even

Raising a Healthy and Happy Ferret

By Joshua Harding

The decision to bring a brand new ferret into your dwelling should not be taken frivolously. There are some crucial things to contemplate regarding ferrets care prior to adding another member to your household.

F

irst, do you have sufficient time to devote to the guardianship of your brand new ferret? Ferrets are friendly creatures and remain healthier if they have company. If you are gone a lot you ought to seriously think about getting two of them so that they will be able to keep each other company when you are not around. If you get two it means your costs will go up. It also means there is a prospect of adding more ferrets to the mix than you desire. If you do not wish for them to have babies, make sure to get two of the same sex or have them fixed. And while you are at it you will certainly want to give them their vaccinations at the same time. Two ferrets also mean they will require a certain amount of time where they can slowly become accustomed to each other. Throwing them together straight away may perhaps result in unwelcome behavior.

time at it. To be successful it’s crucial to begin instruction as quickly as possible, at roughly 30 days of age, and to carry on training with no lapses until they are trained fully. It will probably take a bit of time, but they will in due course recognize where to relieve themselves if they are required to go in the litter box every time. Offering them a treat when they do their job correctly will normally help them with their learning. A ferret must have friendship if you expect them to remain as healthy as possible. They love to snuggle so it’s a fine idea to embrace them as much as you can. The more human contact they experience, the better, and in due course they will learn to love being held by you. And as an extra benefit they will be happier for the attention. With appropriate handling they can develop into affectionate and loyal members of the family.

Joshua Harding is a ferret fanatic. He has compiled a great deal of facts on the subject matter of ferrets and loves to help other individuals realize accomplishment when raising these wonderful animals. Joshua also maintains a ferret site where you can find a lot of related articles about ferrets care, ferret diseases, and more. Visit http://www.FerretOnlineGuide.com

This Month's Great Pix

When you have decided to get a ferret you must learn the proper way to care for them. An important item on your list of jobs is to be sure they constantly have clean water available. Giving them water in a dish is ideal if you have enough extra time to change it a minimum of twice a day. It will get soiled if not changed regularly enough. They will also drink more water from a dish instead of from a bottle. However, if you are not there all day it is generally better to give them bottled water for the reason that it will remain cleaner. When you allow your friend out of their cage, make sure to keep an eye on them. It’s simple for a nosy pet to get injured if the proper precautions are not taken. Ferrets love to chew which means nothing will be off limits to them. And gnawing on many kinds of items can be hazardous to your pet. Swallowing plastic or foam materials will obstruct their intestines and entail surgical removal. A full grown adult ferret will slumber as much as 18 or 20 hours a day and they require a soft dark place to do so. A hammock is a great method to provide your critters a snug place to sleep throughout warmer weather and a sleep sack is superior for cooler conditions. If the cage is in a well-lit room you should wrap a towel over a portion of it to provide them a darker place to nap. If you would like to litter train your pet effectively, be willing to spend a good deal of

The next stage in the food revolution-a radical way to select fruits and vegetables and reclaim the flavor and nutrients we’ve lost. Eating on the Wild Side is the first book to reveal the nutritional history of our fruits and vegetables. Starting with the wild plants that were central to our original diet, investigative journalist Jo Robinson describes how 400 generations of farmers have unwittingly squandered a host of essential fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. New research shows that these losses have made us more vulnerable to our most troubling conditions and diseases--obesity, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic inflammation, and dementia. In an engaging blend of science and story, Robinson describes how and when we transformed the food in the produce aisles. Wild apples, for example, have from three to 100 times more antioxidants than Galas and Honeycrisps, and are five times more effective in killing cancer cells.

Gems for the Soul Once, Buddha was walking from one town to another town with a few of his

followers. This was in the initial days. While they were traveling, they happened to pass a lake. They stopped there and Buddha told one of his disciples, “I am thirsty. Do get me some water from that lake there.” The disciple walked up to the lake. When he reached it, he noticed that some people were washing clothes in the water and, right at that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy, very turbid. The disciple thought, “How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink!” So he came back and told Buddha, “The water in there is very muddy. I don’t think it is fit to drink.” After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake and get him some water to drink. The disciple obediently went back to the lake. This time he found that the lake had absolutely clear water in it. The mud had settled down and the water above it looked fit to be had. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha. Buddha looked at the water, and then he looked up at the disciple and said, “See what you did to make the water clean. You let it be … and the mud settled down on its own – and you got clear water… Your mind is also like that. When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don’t have to put in any effort to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless.”

There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be. That’s when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down. But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself. There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up to you to accept them. Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are. So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be. Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you. Keep Believing in Yourself

MASTERING ALCHEmY FOR THE

GOLDEN

AGE Karen M. Rider

Mastering alchemy for the Golden Age is about “what occurs when mortal disharmony is transmuted into divine transcendence,” … Over centuries and through vastly different eras, alchemy has had varied objectives: the creation of the fabled philosopher’s stone, the ability to transform base metals into noble metals, and the quest for the elixir of life. Alchemists developed a protoscience, providing a framework of theory, terminology, experimental process and basic laboratory techniques that is still recognizable in modern chemistry and medicine. But alchemy, then and today, differs from modern science; it is founded on Hermetic principles and practices that have origins in ancient mythology, magic, religion, and spirituality. Perhaps, this makes alchemy the “science for the Golden Age.”

“The Angels have given us their hearts, the purest part of their being to give…in complete unconditional love…For Angels love for the sake of love, hoping to enlighten human beings about their own loving propensities.”

Mastering alchemy for the Golden Age is about “what occurs when mortal disharmony is transmuted into divine transcendence,” says renowned Angel Seer, author and metaphysician Stewart Pearce. Stewart explains that this process begins through the precise intention of the one who desires transformation, so that one state of mind, of emotion, of being, of understanding, is transmuted into another.

Karen: Stewart, what is a Sigil and why is it important to alchemy? Stewart: A sigil is a symbol created for a specific magical purpose. It is usually made up of a complex combination of several specific symbols or geometric figures, each with a specific meaning or intent. A sigil represents the mystical essence of a subject, without revealing the core vibration. If the original vibration was revealed, the subject’s power could be diminished, and so this is why a sigil or glyph or seal was used for prominent people and profound states.

“Suffering turns into freedom; the dark of the night suddenly transforms into the light of the dawn; woe elevates itself onto a trajectory of joy,” he says. Setting an intention and mastering the alchemy of the heart and soul is not undertaken lightly, requiring guidance and support. “No source offers more profound assistance in mastering alchemy than the twelve mighty Archangels,” says Stewart. “The Angels are supremely aware of the great changes afoot on planet Earth. These they see as miraculous changes of perception away from the illusion of falsehood to the transparency of truth. When mature human choices are made concerning change, consciousness shifts away from the love of power to the power of love, and so unconditional love becomes a constant.” Stewart teaches the transformative nature of sound and the unique relationship the Angels have with sound opens a transcendental channel. Through this channel the Angels give us a gift most profound: PAGE 16 • august, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

In this interview with Stewart, we discuss Angel Alchemy as a healing process available to all who wish to open their hearts and transform their mind and spirit. He shares his new work, channeled from the Angels of Atlantis and manifested in the form of the Angel Heart Sigils Oracle, as an alchemical tool to support our spiritual transmutation and the creation of a wholly different visionary faith that reconnects us with our Divine inheritance.

“The Angels of Atlantis”, as with all Angels, want us to feel loved by them during this time of spiritual revolution. They want us to know we don’t need to make these vast transitions by ourselves. As we see their Orbs, so we see their Sigils. And, within the chants of sacred voice, people are slowly beginning to hear their frequencies. This initiates and elevates the alchemical healing processes I first wrote about in “The Alchemy of Voice” and “The Hearts Note” to an entirely different realm. Karen: You’re speaking of Angel Alchemy? Stewart: Yes. Angel Alchemy occurs as the light renewed emissions of the twelve Angels of Atlantis – rays of love and compassion that emerge as the most pure – pour like elixir through the chants, sonic meditations and chakra harmonizing that lie at the core of our work. Sound exists at the core of creation alongside light. As light informs, so sound transforms. This energy creates a powerfully uplifting presence, penetrating deep into the body for spontaneous healing to

occur. It is as though the Angels were hitching a ride on the holy spirit of the breath that creates the sound. Karen: What has the Angel Heart Sigils Oracle to do with alchemy? Stewart: This unique Oracle offers the vibration of the Angel Heart Sigils as an agency to transform the love sick, the emotionally drained, the physically challenged and the spiritually diffused. By shuffling the cards, by truly being present with each card icon, the Angel Heart Sigils glow. This brings about a profound transformation in the sensitive, turning baser emotion into the uplift of joy, wonder, victory, adoration and so on. Alchemy becomes an instrument offering a spiritual panacea; the Angels help us transform misery into bliss, the victim complex into the victor, the guilt ridden into innocence, the despair into joy and so on. Karen: The Sigils, the Oracle, the Angels—put all together for us. Stewart: A picture paints a thousand words in the flash of a retina, triggering intelligence within the left-brain centre. Indeed, the geometry of the Sigils is ancient, and composed of many vibrational forms, which affect us on a subliminal level opening the right-brain centre. Therefore, the Angels teaching of higher feeling permeates deeply within our bodies, to the sub-atomic structure of our consciousness. Once present, the light of the Angels breath ignites our consciousness within the hundred trillion cells of our being - for we have more cells in our bodies than all the stars in the milky-way galaxy, the stars from which the plasma of the Angels were originally formed. Karen: What is the connection between Angelic Alchemy and the ushering of the Golden Age? Stewart: The Angels are informed by the astro-geographical changes currently happening within our solar system and within our planet. These changes are not simply witnessed by them, but are initiated by them as messengers of God. Their super objective is to allow a maximum amount of light to appear on Planet Earth, so that we may re-establish the power of love as the credo of all time. Therefore, Angelic Alchemy and the Heart Sigils Oracle, can be used as tools to bring about a significant change within the human heart, moving our solely exterior focus to the interior world of profound feeling.

SIDE BAR Angel Virtues

Conduits for Mastering Alchemy A vital aspect of the alchemical process initiated when someone uses the Angel Hearts Sigils Oracle is the encounter of the Angels as instruments of ascribed virtue, deemed necessary at this time of accelerated change. The quality attached to each role is a cardinal virtue in the consciousness of our peoples, and within the swiftly changing nature of our spirituality. The Oracle becomes a conduit for the Angels greatest wish: that we absorb these virtues and use them as part of a daily spiritual toolbox. To literally use them as aspects of an old moral compass made wholly new, and through which life may become easier, richer and more joyous. GABRIEL – Angel of Insight

For it is only by awakening our heart to love and joy that we can experience how the heart entrains the whole of our consciousness, holding as it does within its centre, our Divine blueprint. Through this expression, we speak the utter truth of our liberation. This truth, radiant with pure love, allows us to fully incarnate through the twelve helix DNA that we possess, just as the Atlanteans did. This means we embody the fullness of life as a homo luminous – as a shining one. Thus, we are available to serve our brothers and sisters, and nobly enhance planetary evolution for the Golden Age. Qigong For Health And Longevity

eveloped in Asia thousands of years ago, it is still practiced today by millions around the globe. This unique and simple spiritual practice is quickly gaining in popularity. Prominent figures such as Eckart Tolle and Dr. Mehmet Oz espouse the need for practices such as Qigong for the health and future of mankind. Qigong utilizes breathing, body movement, and mental awareness for self-healing, longevity, calming the body, and awakening the spirit. Roughly translated, Qigong (or Chi Kung as it is also known), means energy (Qi) work (gong). Qi can also be interpreted as life force.

The ancient practice of Qigong may be the modern day answer to much of what ails our present day society.

The body is understood to have meridians or channels along which the energy or Qi flows through us. This energy flow enables our bodies to function properly, regenerate, and heal. Western science has proven that at a molecular level all things, including the human body, are comprised of energy. Now through quantum physics we are learning that this molecular energy has intelligence or consciousness. Problems arise when this flow of energy gets blocked or slowed. Some contributing factors include improper food intake, an unhealthy lifestyle, injuries, genetics, and the number one factor-stress. Imagine a lake with an inflowing river and an out flowing river. This balance keeps the water fresh and clean. If one is greater than the other, problems arise. Too much out flow (overexertion) can deplete the lake (making one tired). Now picture the lake completely blocked at either end, no flow whatsoever. Eventually the water becomes stagnant, a swamp (illness arrives). The art of Qigong enables one to keep the flow going and keep it in balance. Qigong’s gentle movements, though subtle in nature, help to free up any blockages within our bodies and return it to a natural, holistic state of heath. The combination of movement (body) awareness (mind) and breath (spirit) can bring about profound change and healing.

Shawn Phillips is a long time practitioner of the healing arts and martial arts. He is the founder of onlineqigong, whose mission it is to bring self-healing to others through the ancient practice of Tai Chi Qigong. Visit: www.OnlineQigong.com.

Be Aware of Genetically Modified Foods

G

Are GMOs a cause for epidemic proportions of gluten intolerance?

By Mark LaRosa, Captain Organic Planet, Editor of organicslant.com

enetically modified foods have been shown to cause harm to humans, animals, and the environment. Despite growing opposition, more and more foods continue to be genetically altered. Here are reasons to avoid GMO foods. GMO stands for genetically modified organisms; some people also refer to them as GE (genetically engineered). According to the FDA, GMO foods are made using recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (rDNA) technology. The agency commonly refers to them as “bioengineered foods,” or foods that have undergone genetic modification, meaning they’ve been engineered and altered at the genetic level “using any technique, new or traditional.” 80 percent of processed foods contain GMOs. Buying certified-organic food is the only way you can truly stay away from GMOs right now, since GMO foods are not labeled. But, honestly, the likelihood that GMO crops will cross-pollinate with organics gets higher every year as more and more GMOs are planted.

Top 10 Worst GMO Foods for Your GMO Foods List 1. Corn: This is a no-brainer. If you’ve watched any food documentary, you know corn is highly modified. “As many as half of all U.S. farms growing corn for Monsanto are using genetically modified corn,” and much of it is intended for human consumption. Monsanto’s GMO corn has been tied to numerous health issues, including weight gain and organ disruption. 2. Soy: Found in tofu, vegetarian products, soybean oil, soy flour, and numerous other products, soy is also modified to resist herbicides. As of now, biotech giant Monsanto still has a tight grasp on the soybean market, with approximately 90 percent of soy being genetically engineered to resist Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup. In one single year, 2006, 96.7 million pounds of glyphosate was sprayed on soybeans alone. 3. Sugar: Genetically-modified sugar beets were introduced to the U.S. market in 2009. Like others, they’ve been modified by Monsanto to resist herbicides. Monsanto has even had USDA and court-related issues with the planting of its sugar beets, being ordered to remove seeds from the soil due to illegal approval. 4. Aspartame: Aspartame is a toxic additive used in numerous food products, and should be avoided for numerous reasons, including the fact that it is created with genetically modified bacteria. 5. Papayas: This one may come as a surprise to all of you tropical-fruit lovers. GMO papayas have been grown in Hawaii for consumption since 1999. Though they can’t be sold to countries in the European Union, they are welcome with open arms in the U.S. and Canada. 6. Canola: One of the most chemically altered foods in the U.S. diet, canola oil is obtained from rapeseed through a series of chemical actions. 7. Cotton: Found in cotton oil, cotton originating in India and China in particular has serious risks. 8. Dairy: Your dairy products contain growth hormones, with as many as onefifth of all dairy cows in America are pumped with these hormones. In fact, Monsanto’s health-hazardous rBGH has been banned in 27 countries, but is still in most US cows. If you must drink milk, buy organic.

9. and 10. Zucchini and Yellow Squash: Closely related, these two squash varieties are modified to resist viruses. The dangers of some of these foods are well known. The Bt toxin being used in GMO corn, for example, was recently detected in the blood of pregnant women and their babies. But perhaps more frightening are the risks that are still unknown. With little regulation and safety tests performed by the companies doing the genetic modifications themselves, we have no way of knowing for certain what risks these lab-created foods pose to us outside of what we already know. The best advice: steer clear of them altogether.

Those stickers on fruits and veggies tell you quite a bit! Although they seem like a nuisance, the stickers or labels attached to fruit and some vegetables have more of a function than helping scan the price at the checkout stand. The PLU code, or price lookup number printed on the sticker, also tells you how the fruit was grown. By reading the PLU code, you can tell if the fruit was genetically modified, organically grown or produced with chemical fertilizers, fungicides, or herbicides.

Here are the basics of what you should know: If there are only four numbers in the PLU, this means that the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides. The last four letters of the PLU code are simply what kind of vegetable or fruit. An example is that all bananas are labeled with the code of 4011. If there are five numbers in the PLU code, and the number starts with “8”, this tells you that the item is a genetically modified fruit or vegetable. Genetically modified fruits and vegetables trump being organic. So, it is possible to eat organic produce that is grown from genetically modified seeds. A genetically engineered (GE or GMO) banana would be: 84011 If there are five numbers in the PLU code, and the number starts with “9”, this tells you that the produce was grown organically and is not genetically modified. An organic banana would be: 94011 Incidentally, the adhesive used to attach the stickers is considered food-grade, but the stickers themselves aren’t edible. You can view the full list from the Environmental Working Groups of fruits and vegetables with the least to most pesticides. When shopping, the most important produce to buy organic are those at the bottom of this list http://www.foodnews. org/fulllist.php.

a post on gawking in last week’s newsletter, I mentioned some of the measures I take to protect my skin from burning during the hottest of summer days.

sunlight react with cholesterol found in your skin to produce vitamin D as well as a number of other “photo products” that are vital to all your organ systems, particularly your immune system and digestive tract.

I hope I didn’t contribute to any sun phobias that might be out there. In case it wasn’t clear in my post, I am extra careful in guarding my skin because I have many areas of depigmentation which burn very quickly without some form of protection.

Vitamin D deficiency is arguably the most common nutritional deficiency in first world nations today, so sensible exposure to sunlight is something that most of us should aim for.

If you don’t have a history of being sun burned, your health is best served by getting some sunlight on your skin on a regular basis. UV-B rays in

What if you have naturally fair skin and tend to burn a lot quicker than those who have darker complexions? You likely don’t need a lot of UV-B exposure to generate optimal amounts of vitamin D. However, part of the reason for

quick burning may be sub-optimal intake of antioxidants that offer natural protection against burning. Red beets and carrots are two inexpensive and readily available foods that are abundant in antioxidants; specifically, betalains and carotenoids that can actually neutralize free radicals and inflammation brought about by UV rays. Other foods that are rich in antioxidants that offer protection against sun burning are blackberries, blueberries, goji berries, black beans, kidney beans, olives, and dark green leafy vegetables like lettuce, kale, and Swiss chard. So, if you want to get a little more sun than you do to ensure optimal vitamin D status, try eating some of these foods on a daily basis. If you have a juicer, I highly recommend two large handfuls of dark green leafy vegetables, two small to medium carrots, and one-quarter of a medium size beet, all freshly pressed to produce a 12-ounce juice that, once in your bloodstream, will efficiently deliver a plethora of antioxidants to all areas of your body, including your skin. Of course, there will still be times when you have to be outdoors on a sweltering afternoon for longer than is good for your skin – this is when you want to make use of appropriate clothing, sun hats, physical sunscreen lotions, etc.

Actually, one of the most convenient ways of protecting your skin during extended outings is a UPF-rated umbrella. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been making good use of a sunspecific umbrella made by a company called Coolibar - you can learn about this umbrella here: http://tinyurl. com/m9mzfsu. With a UPF-rated umbrella, you can wear lighter clothing and even skip a sun hat, which are huge pluses on days when it’s so hot out that you don’t want to wear anything at all. If it’s not feasible to get a UPF-rated umbrella, any regular rain umbrella made with dark fabric should offer substantial protection; one study out there indicates that dark-colored umbrellas block a minimum of 75% of harmful UV rays. Well, that’s enough talk about the sun, but if you want to read up on how to make sure that you’re getting enough vitamin D, feel free to review my article on this topic here: www.DrBenKim. com/vitamin-d-facts.htm. Chill Out With Mint Today’s temperature, 107 – 110 – 115 – 117 – 120. Yep – you are definitely living in the desert and finding ways to cool off is a full time summer job! Finding access to water ways, i.e. lakes, oceans, streams, is not always easy for desert dwellers; however, even in this harsh summer environment, Mother Nature has provided plants to help us adapt to the heat and sun. Kathleen Gould

of the most abundant families of cooling plants are the mints. Peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen, lemon balm, motherwort, rosemary and sage. This wonderful family of plants helps move heat by increasing circulation so we gently sweat out excess heat. Mints also have analgesic (pain relieving) properties both internally and externally, as well as antibacterial and carminative (relieves gas and G.I. distress).

2 oz Assorted mints (or choose just 1) 1 oz Rosehips 1 oz Lemongrass 1/2 oz Hibiscus flower 1/2 oz Nettle leaves Stevia (sweet herb) or honey to sweeten 2 parts Raspberry leaf 2 parts Lemon balm 1 part Chrysanthemum flower 1 part Lemon or Orange peel 1/4 part Ginger root Stevia (sweet herb) or honey to taste

There are a myriad of ways to enjoy these beautiful cooling plants. Grab a handful of fresh mint or about 5 teaspoons of dried mint and steep in a quart jar in the sun for a few hours for a delicious, cooling tea. Make a larger pot of tea to strain in your bathtub to soothe and cool your entire body. This is very soothing to heat rash or mild sunburns. You can also put your tea in a spritzer bottle for a wonderful cooling spray for you and/or your children. A vinegar/ mint hair rinse is wonderful way to treat your hair and cool down at the same time. Just make your tea, let it steep for an hour or so to get nice and strong and rinse through your hair. Growing mints in the desert is a bit challenging; so here are a few hints from gardeners. Buy plants from a desert nursery so they are already acclimated to the heat. Grow mint in semi-fertile soil, in a partially shaded garden location. Most gardeners suggest starting your mint gardens in the autumn to allow them time to set a strong root system before the heat of summer. Keep your mint patch well pruned, as it encourages new leaves to grow into a bushier plant (rather than a long straggly one). Water deeply and regularly during the hottest part of the year. Weather you choose to grow fresh mints or use dried plant material is up to you. Either way, do incorporate the mint family into your diet regularly to help you stay cool and calm all summer long. Enjoy!

What’s the

Cancer Connection? by

Michelene k. Bell

Do daily habits, like diet and exercise, affect your risk for cancer? Much more than you might think. Research has shown that poor diet and not being active are two key factors that can increase a person’s cancer risk. Each year, more than 572,000 Americans die of cancer due to poor diet, lack of physical activity and being over weight. Can you do anything to reduce your risk? Absolutely.

maintaining your ideal weight is vital in reducing the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases; including heart disease and diabetes.

The BMI is based on the relationship between your height and weight. The ideal BMI measurement is below 25. Your doctor should be able to explain it more and provide you with a BMI score. Suggestions in controlling weight: • Limit portion sizes • Avoid high calorie foods and drinks • Eliminate foods with added sugar • Keep a journal of what you eat and drink • Evaluate where you can cut back on unhealthy foods and drinks Be More Active. There are many benefits to being active. Besides controlling your weight, it helps improve hormones and the immune system as well as reduces the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Exercise Recommendations • Adults moderate intensity ~ 2.5

Suggested moderate activies, brisk or power walking, hiking, biking…just to name a few. Vigorous activities raises your heart beat, makes you breathe faster and deeper, makes you sweat and uses the large muscle groups. It is recommended to eat fruits alone in the morning hours (before noon) for the most efficient digestion. Also, eat legumes such as peas, beans, and other low-calorie foods Soft drinks, sports drinks, and fruit-

Preparations: For healthy results, broil, bake, poach or bar-b-q the poultry, fish or meat rather than frying. Limit your use of creamy sauces, dressings, and dips with fruits and vegetables. Choose whole-grain breads, pasta, and cereals (such as barley and oats) instead of breads, cereals, and pasta made from refined grains, and brown rice instead of white rice.

foods, including pastries, candy, sugarsweetened breakfast cereals, and other high-sugar foods. If you drink alcohol, limit how much. Two drinks per day for men; one drink for women due to their smaller body size and slower breakdown of alcohol. Rule of thumb: 12oz. of beer, 5oz of wine; 1-1/2 oz of hard liquor. Note: it is the amount of alcohol, not the type that puts one at risk of cancer. C o m m u n i t i e s . We all can have a healthier lifestyle. factors. So, let’s change those statistics; let’s challenge ourselves to become healthier, lose the extra weight, get off the couch or from behind the computer and experience nature in the physical sense and pay attention to our body’s needs. Let us work, play and live in an environment free of cancer and disease. One last thing. I would be remiss if I did not mention that one key in cancer prevention is: stop smoking.

Celestial Cycles by Motavenda

My thoughts on “Creating” by Moti We are creating our lives from deep within our own souls on a moment-by-moment basis. As the Law of Attraction draws to us all the events we need to experience, we connect to the truth of our current soul condition. This is true for both “positive” and seemingly “negative” events. By becoming more aware of the truth, that this process is in operation, we can shift into a more active and productive seat of creativity inside of our lives and in relationship to the world around us.

Important, read Sun, Rising & Moon signs to have a full picture. So, what’s up the with heavens? The Sun, traveling through Leo, finds us overflowing with creativity as we embrace our passions and desires to express our true nature with more freedom. We take steps to bring our visions forward and into reality … until it enters Virgo on the 22nd when we move toward greater individuation and autonomy as we ground and re-balance. The New Moon in Leo on the 6th draws us toward those places we feel safe; expressing ourselves inside. The Full Moon on the 20th in Aquarius brings us together to share our gifts and creations with each other. Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, is moving through the sign of Cancer and opposes Pluto (traveling retrograde) in Capricorn on the 8th. This is a time of change for the better. How can we transform what is already in existence into something more loving that holds space for all of our emotions and feelings? As Mercury, the planet of communication and thought processes, enters Leo on the 8th, we come forward with more honesty in our exchanges and we are able to listen and understand others by supporting them in doing the same. These things facilitate our explorations further. With Venus entering Libra on the 16th, new ways to coexist in harmony appear visible where they did not exist before. Jupiter then squares Uranus (traveling retrograde) in Aries and trines Chiron in Pisces on the 21st as we forge open more and more space for love through standing up for ourselves and backing up the choices we make to move toward greater freedom in health. We can take all we have learned in our suffering and apply it as we search for new ways to co-create loving, holistic and freeing experiences together. Mercury enters Virgo on the 23rd reminding us that we can be open with others; without losing ourselves in the process by simply being self-aware. Through taking notice of when we are feeling overwhelmed by the energies of those around us, and allowing ourselves time apart from them, we are able to exist in our totality and in greater health as we grow relationships. As Mars enters Leo on the 27th, we forge ahead with a greater sense of self-love and a growing courage to express ourselves through our creations. It is a dance. We are here to grow in love and do this by owning and feeling all our emotions and, as we do this, we become capable of engaging creativity in ways previously unimagined.

Happy Birthday Leo! July 23rd to August 22nd “I CREATE”

Ruling Planet: Sun ~ Rules: Heart, Upper Back & Spine ~ Symbol: The Lion ~ Element: Fire ~ Energy: Masculine ~ Quality: Fixed ~ Color: Orange ~ Gem Stone: Peridot ~ Flower: Sunflower ~ Most Compatible Signs: Aries & Sagittarius ~ High Manifestation of Leo Energy: Creating with freedom and in alignment with divine laws as a pathway to growing in love through self-expression. ~ Shadow Manifestation of Leo Energy: Existing in arrogance without consideration of others through domineering and overwhelming them. ~ Full Spectrum of the Leo/Aquarius Axis: “I create with joy and freedom and share my gift generously with others who do the same with me.”

The energy of Leo compels us to unravel ourselves from the bondage of a restrictive world; to shine in all our glory so we can enjoy ourselves, our lives and each other. We are all creative and are, in fact, creating in every moment of our existence … even when we are unaware of doing so! The ultimate goal here is to unfold and exist in our totality on Earth and grow in love as we do so. Engaging conscious creativity offers us a powerful way forward. As we move into greater levels of understanding of what is and is not loving in our creations, we can turn within and search our own souls for the keys to understanding. We were each created with the ability to manifest on levels we are not yet realizing. The truth is that, as we grow in love through healing our emotional injuries, we become capable of working with more energy to bring things into reality that were not possible for us to make real before. Leos show us the joy of embracing our artistic selves. What is more fun than hanging out in an art studio? We are each filled with so many dreams that we are designed to bring into reality. Through engaging our passions and desires, it is totally against our nature to subdue or deny these great forces inside of our soul. What do you want to make real? The key is to engage these things through taking action and loving ourselves in the process, by allowing our passions to be purified along the way, to be brought into more harmony with love and truth as we progress. This is how we will change this world into one that is glorious.

PAGE 28 • august, 2013 • IN LIGHT TIMES

ARIES • Mar. 21 to Apr. 19

You release focus on the material things now. You let any sense of trouble pass you by and turn your attention in new directions. As you let go of the pragmatic view and open your heart to the unexpected, new possibilities form and emerge. It may feel counter-intuitive initially, but the results will pan out.

TAURUS • Apr. 20 to May 20

Your nature is to move toward accomplishments with ease. There are also times when a certain idea of success we’re invested in becomes a burden and is no longer worth the effort. These are times when tenaciousness does not serve us. Step back for a better view and allow yourself to change your mind.

GEMINI • May 21 to June 20

The fates are in play Gemini. Continue your openhearted approach to things; knowing larger forces will influence the outcome. This is freeing to contemplate. Now is a good time to live and let live and embrace the here and now, knowing that all you need to do is remain open and loving.

Cancer ~ June 21 to July 22

There are times when we gain enormously from taking private time apart from other influences. There is a hermit in each of us that is often given only a brief nod of recognition from time to time. When we give ourselves time alone, we discover how much we can learn in the midst of silence.

Leo ~ July 23 to Aug. 22

Harmonious change is a great thing Libra. There are many challenges in life and it is wonderful when we embrace change. Allow what is over to be released … without a lot of stress and struggle. When we use love to guide us, we can trust what we are creating long-term will be strong and whole.

Virgo ~ Aug. 23 to Sept 22

You find peace in sanctuary Virgo. It is always a pleasure to experience ourselves as spectacular beings in the midst of a world filled with people. It is amazing to consider every person alive is unique. It is one of our jobs in life to come to realize we were created in perfection.

Libra ~ Sept. 23 to Oct. 22

Let prudence be your guide. It is surprising to see how discipline can actually bring us to a more expanded state of being. This is a good time to practice restraint. You will be surprised at the beneficial outcome of deciding to opt for more healthy choices; even if immediate gratification must be passed by.

Scorpio ~ Oct. 23 to Nov. 21

Oftentimes, we do not recognize our lives are filled with abundance. The worldly goods we are fortunate to enjoy are worthy of notice and appreciation. Snuggling in and really taking pleasure in these things is a great way to express gratitude.

Sagittarius ~ Nov. 22 to Dec. 21

There are many misconceptions about how to give to others in love. One important, and oftentimes over-looked, consideration is to look after ourselves in the process. To give when we are sacrificing and causing suffering or being unloving to ourselves is to be out of harmony with divine love.

Capricorn ~ Dec. 22 to Jan. 19

Beneath oppressive circumstances is not a place we want to end up spending our lives dwelling. When we find ourselves being oppressive to others or being on the receiving end of domineering energies, it is important to go deeper in search of the core level beliefs leading us to thinking it is acceptable.

Aquarius ~ Jan. 20 to Feb. 18

No matter what life presents to us, there is strength in going with the flow Aquarius. The more we accept what we are drawing to us as being a reflection of our own soul’s condition, the more easily we embrace all that life brings. We know that the all things can be changed by healing.

Pisces ~ Feb. 19 to March 20

A nice benefit of being tuned into the spiritual side of life is your ability to be less impacted by the material world. You can easily relinquish concerns over goals you have or have not achieved in the past. There is more to life. A deeper meaning is present and you feel it.

Empowered Numerology by Michele Avanti Alpha Numeric Numerology Chart

The

Number Seven This chart allows you to quickly access the number related to any letter. Thus you can identify what numbers are active through a name, or address.

Once we have understood the frequency of six with all its choices, we are ready for the dynamic frequency of seven, the number of change. Seven takes man beyond his egocentric self and helps him see himself as part of the solar system and universe. Before the frequency of seven entered man’s consciousness, he was completely self-absorbed. He lived in a state that may have fluctuated with intuitive glimpses of Spirit and the Divine; however, as he came to the frequency of six, all that was considered possible suddenly expanded and through the many choices that became available, the frequency of seven beckoned him to take a chance, leap, and risk everything for the fast thrill of a whole new world. Seven is the number of the original stellar bodies that man studied right up until the 19th century…the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. These seven luminaries and planets moved through the night sky and when they made certain geometric patterns, astronomers and astrologers noted major changes on Earth, in nations and people. The seventh celestial body is Saturn, which takes approximately twenty-eight years to orbit the Sun. Saturn is known as the disciplinarian, judge, authority figure, structure builder and government. At the moment an individual takes their first breath, Saturn, along with all the other planets and luminaries, leaves a geometric pattern on the individual’s DNA. As the individual grows through life, Saturn in the sky will activate this birth pattern approximately every seven years; creating major cha=nges. These changes may be breakups because the foundation was not built properly, or may be a consolidation or graduation due to a job well done. The old saying about the, ‘Seven year itch”, which activates breakups in relationships, is due to the movement of Saturn on a couple’s wedding chart (the moment a couple says, “I do,” a wedding chart is born.) Seven’s shape is the most dramatic of any number. Like a great cliff from which one might leap, this number motivates. I call people who carry seven’s frequency, Risk Taker, Motivator, Change Maker and Gambler. It is no surprise that gambler’s call seven a lucky number.

When looking at the chart, the letters listed below each number will activate that frequency and you can add them together to find the power of a word. For example, the name, Art. Look at the column with number one at the top. There you will find A, thus A=1, R is located in the 9 column, so R=9, and T is located in the 2 column, so T=2. Thus for Art we would add, 1+9+2=12, which when reduced = 3.

August &

Its Frequencies August is: A (1) + u (3) + g (7) + u (3) + s (1) + t (2) = 17 = 8 2013: 2 + 0 + 1 + 3 = 6 Total: 8 + 6 = 14 = 5 The word August not only reduces to the number eight, it is also the eighth month. Eight’s frequency signals a need for balance; it is the number of the artist and the creative. Just as the number swirls beautifully, curving back into itself, so too does its frequency activate beautiful compositions in music, art, poetry and all creative works. Being a number of balance, it is also the number of justice or karmic balance. Though it appears nonthreatening, when it is active, if the individual has not lived by the laws of karma, it will call for a karmic rebalancing. The great scales of justice are a symbol for the number eight. Thus this month is a time to review all areas of your life and re-balance as necessary; not with a harsh attitude but rather with a song, a dance, and in rhythm to your heart. It is a time when creative energy flows and people find they must separate from certain experiences, choices, habits, things or people in order to come into harmony with themselves again. When we add 2013’s six frequency to this month’s eight and create the additional frequency of five, we have a mix that requires us to consciously learn to choose balance or suffer the repercussions of karmic trials. So I highly recommend you welcome eight, six and five into your home and heart this month. Let them teach you to sing, paint, and dance into balance. Take time to review what you learn from them each week and this will give you a new outlook and a more balanced creative flow. If you have any unresolved legal issues, it is best to tackle them consciously this month and bring all parts of your life into balance. •

Seven is an optimistic number and a fast moving energy. Those who carry this energy drive faster than the rest of us and take far more chances in life. To achieve mastery with seven, we must discover joy in change, let go of emotional attachments that are beyond our control and take risks not by racing off the cliff, but by setting a foundation before we leap, thus we leave the cliff in a comfortable glider thrilling to the freedom of flight and filling ourselves with fresh air and broad new ideas.

But even as this frequency activates change, and those whose lives are tied to it would be unhappy in a monotonous life style; so too, change can be their Achilles heel. When circumstances beyond the seven person’s control, remove someone or something from their lives, sevens find it emotionally painful and may take a long time to let go, forgive and be grateful. They will fall into a state of self-pity and can wallow there for seven years. The very best way to get them up and active again is to tempt them with a new adventure.
