An Ode To A Heng Fa Childhood - Part 2 I was born right here in Hong Kong and upon leaving the hospital was brought to Heng Fa Chuen, the place I would call home for the rest of my life, even during my few years abroad for University. In a place like Hong Kong, not many people have the luxury of being able to call one single estate or even MTR station area home; but luckily Heng Fa is both. per, I would like to likewise celebrate a childhood spent in Heng Fa Chuen. To my Heng Fa schoolmates, I remember fondly our gazing longingly at the uncles that were hauling cutmake the slightest movement. Truth be told, we just secondary life. Heng Fa, your extinction wasn’t our fault, although the one time an uncle gave me one of your friends, he tasted amazing. Thank you for that and may the ink of your struggles once again taint the concrete of the waterfront.

that Chai Wan people would come just to eat at the mall. May those days and decent dining choices return to us. To KFC, I always enjoyed honey biscuits for breakfast, please come back. To the McDonald’s staff that are still here to this day, thank you for giving me the french fries toy even though I didn’t recite the poems correctly. ) To the uncle that stepped on my 4WD car ( before it sped out into the road, thanks for saving my life. My six-year-old self would have ran into the road to catch that little car. To all the kids that had to wade into the water to get our football back when the Block 50 Park still had the fountain. You guys are true heroes. To any of you who may know why the little hill outside the clubhouse was called “Magic Mountain”, please email us because this question has been bugging me for ages.

To the kids of today, I implore you to go out and play. Heng Fa Chuen was the best place to be a kid and to grow up in, enjoy it, turn off your mobile phone and get out there, enjoy the playgrounds and let your imagination run wild. Your dreaming and imagination has to be exercised, because once it’s gone, it doesn’t always come back. Dreams and imagination make the world go forward.

To the now grown up children that I played “Titanic” with in the Block 24 playground, may our ship be ever sinking but never disappear beneath the waves of our memory.

Finally, to whoever made all the rules on the signs on the waterfront. Thank you for teaching us that rules are made to be broken, we thoroughly enjoyed doing that as children. Perhaps our response to these “stupid rules” gave us the awareness now as adults to critically think about the rules we have
