Here we are - 2017. A number 1 year of new beginnings. This is a special year offering immense opportunity to imagine and navigate a new course, to let go of the old ways and stories that no longer serve us and to open-heartedly welcome in the new vistas and adventures awaiting us up ahead. Right now we are being offered another opportunity to move more consciously and more deeply into the vastness that we really are as our authentic InnerSelf. For many, 2016 was a tough year. Being an endings 9 year it offered many challenges to journey through, all making way for this new cycle of 2017 as a new beginnings 1 year. In this context, this first issue for 2017 is an invitation to release the past, celebrate the present and welcome in the future. Graham Williams sets the tone in this issue with his article “The Bliss of Inner Peace” with his invitation to experience the deep underlying ever-constant inner peace at the core of our being, as one of the great discoveries and gifts of Meditation. In counterbalance, Osho invites us to honour and explore our own sadness when it arises, to make full use of it by diving deeper into our being, instead of fleeing it. “When you are feeling sad,” he advises “don’t lose the opportunity.” Denise Linn explores living authentically, and as part of this - dying gracefully. A beautiful reminder that absolutely every moment is sacred, especially the moment of our death. In our Health section, Belle McCaleb shares ways to naturally clear acne from the inside out. Peter Bongiorno guides us into how to deinflame and detox in 3 easy steps; and Roger Gilchrist offers his principles of Biodynamic Healing. In our Healing pages, Doreen Virtue shares a precious and for many, a very timely Meditation to heal the Heart Chakra. Fran Tomlin writes an insightful allegorical tale, Susan Marie reminds us about the importance of celebrating family; and Judith Poole explains just how to change our Aura colours through Aura Painting. As adults, we can often rely on our intellectual and rational sides to solve issues, but art therapy is saying “no, that’s not always the best way”. We actually want to tap into our imagination and our intuition and our bodily experience for healing. Art therapists often analyse the language a client uses to work out what media might be useful for them to work with. If they were talking about wanting to “construct” a greater sense of where their career is going, they may look at constructing some sort of sculpture that might help with that. Working with Clay is very sensory and can often be very useful in working with trauma. Growing career opportunities With new insights into the mental and physical health benefits of the arts, art therapy is a burgeoning career. There are opportunities to work in a range of health, aged care, educational and community settings across a variety of client groups; children, adolescents and adults. A Time for Spiritual Harmony
Perhaps it’s time in our fractured world to take a pause and reflect on what unites us rather than what separates us. The divine wisdom, the “theosophia”, that is at the heart of every religion, has always directed us to act on our oneness. One could give examples from any of the religious paths but here are just a few to reflect upon. In Buddhism we are advised, “Hurt not others with that which pains yourself”. (Udanavarga, 5:18) Christianity directs us, “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets”. (Matthew 7:12). In Hebraism the Talmud counsels, “What is hurtful to yourself do not to your fellow man. That is the whole of the Torah and the remainder is but
commentary. Go learn it.” In Islam the Traditions tell us “No one of you is a believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” March 21 of every year has been designated as Harmony Day in Australia. This coincides with the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and is celebrated by many institutions throughout the country to give the message that everyone belongs. But it’s more than racial discrimination which needs to be overcome. If we can reach an understanding of what links us through our different religious traditions we stand a better chance of creating harmony in the world. With this aim, the Adelaide Theosophical Society, in collaboration with the Multi Faith Association of South Australia is hosting “Spiritual Harmony Day” on Sunday March 19 from 2 until 5 pm It’s an opportunity to recognize and celebrate our Spiritual connectedness as a community. The theme is very much “unity through diversity” recognizing and respecting our different beliefs and practices while exploring our common spiritual understandings. There will be a Q & A panel of speakers from diverse religious communities in Adelaide. This will be followed by an afternoon tea to give us time to reflect on the understandings, nurture our bodies and exchange ideas. The second session will provide further opportunities for questions to the panel and time for them to

AN INTERVIEW WITH TINA MALIA BY INNERSELF NEWSPAPER Tina Malia, visionary musical artist is touring Australia in April 2017 for a concert and workshop. Her sonic creations span sacred chant, world, dream pop and folk music genres. Innerself newspaper caught up with Malia for an interview on her upcoming tour to Australia. You have recorded in both the mainstream and spiritual musical traditions, how do you see yourself as an artist in the world today? For me, true art delivers an experience that transcends logical boundaries. It’s very essence is absolute freedom, the creative force that can not be tamed. Music is one of my favorite ways to tap into this force, to express the dreams and stories of my time on Earth. I’ve always had a natural attraction to music that sings directly to the heart and gestures to something immense that connects us all, a love that can neither be seen, nor touched, nor spoken. These songs, in different languages and from different traditions and styles all meet together in the same place: in reverence and awe of life. You can hear it in the honesty and longing of the music, regardless of the language or instruments used. As a musical artist, I’m constantly running towards that which inspires me to create, and trying not to worry too much about being limited in a certain category of music. My ultimate goal is to experience and create that space of awe in all of the music I make.
Once there is the basic framework of the music, I start filling in the lyrics and become totally immersed in the story that is being told. I have found that, regardless of what feeling I start the song with, the process of writing and just being with music has a profound cleansing effect on my spirit and affects my writing process. You’ll find this reflected in my lyrics in English, they’re always steered towards hope and awe. This is actually the effect that the music is having on me as I’m writing the poetry. You have a spiritual outlook and persuasion, how does this view affect your song writing and your performance? It has been the music within spiritual traditions that has lured me. I am unable to resist the beauty of pure sounds, voices singing and playing in adoration of their Divine. It has a different
feeling, devotional music, like a place you remember but have never seen, a place to be washed of your fears and doubts. Naturally, I wish to share that experience with others, so it goes hand in hand with my song writing as well as what I aspire to bring to a stage. Do you follow any particular spiritual path or tradition? Can you talk a bit about your own awakening moments? I do not follow any specific spiritual tradition, though if I had to choose one, I would give my allegiance directly to Mother Earth. Many of my awakening moments have been about removing layers of thought, namely those that have us believe we are separate from nature. As I've shed many of these layers and began walking closer to the Earth, I've been greeted by many others around the world who also live in reverence of nature.
Can you share any insights you have gleaned through your immersion in working with the power of sound, and more specifically Mantra, to affect consciousness in both ourselves and the world? Mantra, or the repetition of sacred word(s), can be used in different ways: through singing, speaking, or silent internal repetition. The internal repetition of mantra, called japa, has been the single most powerful tool for healing and self-transformation that I’ve had the fortune to stumble upon in my lifetime. Giving the mind a place to focus and rest allows the heart to breathe, to feel the depth and vastness of love that already exists there. I’ve had amazing success with using mantra to heal depression, for it hits at the root of cause, which is turmoil of the mind. Sometimes we must train our minds to feel well and happy, and mantra is a most gentle friend that leads us to that destination. You will be performing around Australia soon, what message do you offer to our readers about your upcoming tour? Are you kidding? I love Ozzies. You were inspired in your teens by women singer/ songwriters such as Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. As you learned to play guitar, opening the door to your own song writing gift, can you describe your song writing process and also your role as a song writer. Song writing for me starts with a feeling. A feeling that wants to come out, wants to experience the outside world. This feeling can be sparked by joy or sadness, or anything in between. Often, I hear a melody that matches my feeling, which is sometimes accompanied by a lyric or two. From there, I use guitar or piano to create the chords and rhythm.

THE BLISS OF INNER PEACE
Experiencing the deep inner peace which lies at the core of our being is one of the great discoveries of meditation. When people learn to meditate they realise that this doesn’t have to be left to chance, but is something they can learn to do for themselves whenever they choose.
Emotions are like the sea
I have found that one of the best ways to understand emotions is to watch the sea. On a calm day it can be like a pond, totally still and clear. This is what your mind is like when it is balanced and calm. With some wind around, the sea begins to whip up and form waves and then these can build into huge breakers. The gulf near Adelaide is not even open sea, yet storms can whip the sea into such a fury that waves crash against the foreshore and wreak havoc with the jetties. This can be exhilarating if you are watching and are safe, but if you are in the sea at that moment it’s another story all together. I like to use the image of the sea when talking about thoughts and emotions, seeing them as waves on the sea. In our normal lives we don’t usually take much notice of our thoughts and emotions, and most of the time we go wherever they drive us. They form the undercurrent which drives our lives. This is exactly like floating in the sea, not noticing where the currents are going, and not taking much notice of the waves. Until a big one comes along. Then we notice, as it throws us around, and eventually breaks, taking us with it. The great discovery of meditation is that thoughts and emotions are not our whole minds. There is space between them, and there are times when our minds can be completely free
from them. This is the same as discovering that you don’t have to be caught in waves all the time – there is always a beach where you can rest and be free from them.
Finding the beach
Finding the beach is a profound experience, discovering that there is somewhere free from waves, somewhere where it is possible to stay perfectly still and completely relaxed. Knowing that there is a beach makes all the difference to our attitude to the sea. Once we know that there is somewhere free from the pushes and pulls of its currents and waves, we have a totally different attitude to it. We know that when the going gets a bit rough, we can get out and wait for the waves to settle down again. In Nature the beach is always there, no matter what the sea is doing, and in our own minds, this foundation of deep calm and stillness is always there, always accessible, no matter what state you might be in emotionally. It’s just a matter of knowing how to get there, and how to rest there. Unlike what many people think about peace, this foundation of deep calm is extremely blissful because it is vibrant and alive. In this state you are in touch with your whole mind and body, and your senses are completely open to the whole world around you. You can afford to watch and listen, smell, taste and feel everything, because you do not have to negotiate the normal emotional upheavals we all experience. You can then have a much more peaceful relationship with yourself, with the people you live with and the world around you. In fact, being able to create peace in the world depends totally on being able to create peace in yourself. And this involves knowing where it is and how to contact it.
Respecting the power of emotions
If we see emotions as powerful, elemental, natural forces we can then bring to them the same respect that we would bring to any other force in nature. Our inner life is as vast as the ocean, and to enter it without maps and the proper preparation can mean becoming lost and stranded. Respecting the forces we are dealing with is, I believe, the best protection we can have against getting caught in them. By respecting them we can get to know them and so recognise the conditions which bring them about. Like a surfer who stays on the beach watching the waves and currents before entering the ocean, you too can literally rest in the peace of your mind when it is balanced whenever you choose. From here you can see clearly the varied situations in your life before engaging with them. With the tool of meditation you can rest on the beach, in the still space of your mind, and contact this state of deep, vibrant, blissful peace whenever you choose, simply by knowing how to balance yourself. Sadness as a Meditation Leads to Peace and Calm BY OSHO Sadness as a Meditation
Sadness can become a very enriching experience. You have to work on it. It is easy to escape from your sadness — and all relationships ordinarily are escapes; one simply goes on avoiding it. And it is always there underneath... the current continues. Even in relationship it erupts many times. Then one tends to throw the responsibility on the other, but it is not the real thing. It is your loneliness, your own sadness. You have not settled with it yet, so it will erupt again and again. You can escape in work. You
can escape in some occupation, in relationship and society, this and that, in traveling, but it is not going to go way, because it is part of your being.
Entering Into and Enjoying Loneliness
Every man is born alone — in the world, but alone; comes through the parents, but alone. And every man dies alone, again moves out of the world alone. And between these two lonelinesses we go on deceiving and fooling ourselves. It is good to take courage and enter into this loneliness. How-
ever hard and difficult it may look in the beginning, it pays tremendously. Once you settle with it, once you start enjoying it, once you feel it not as sadness but as silence, once you understand that there is no way to escape, you relax. Go deep into it... sink into it. Allow every sad thought to penetrate you, every sad emotion to stir you. And cry and weep and say things — say them loudly, there is nothing to worry about. So first live sadness for a few days, and the moment that momentum of sadness goes, you will feel very calm, peaceful — as one feels after a storm. In that moment sit silently and enjoy the silence that is coming on its own. You have not brought it; you were bringing sadness. When sadness goes, in the wake, silence settles. Listen to that silence. Close your eyes. Feel it... feel the very texture of it... the fragrance. And if you feel happy, sing, dance. What is the shift that needs to take place before I can totally “be” it? The thought that any shift needs to take place is simply a thought. Thoughts have the ability to create a sense of time and space and then to locate objects within their boundaries. Become quiet for a moment, and be aware of a thought arising out of awareness. Notice that in this vast space, there is no separation between the thought that arises and the awareness that is aware of the thought. It’s impossible to say that the thought is located over here in one place and awareness is over there in another. The thought and the awareness of the thought are indivisible, and it is essential to realize this. Emotions, states of consciousness, and sensations, along with thoughts, are all inseparable from the ground of awareness within which they exist. Without awareness, there is nothing for anything to appear in. It is possible to be aware of what is happening in awareness and to be aware of awareness at the same time. When you realize that the things appearing within awareness are not happening to you as an individual, then the boundary lines between awareness and whatever appears in awareness disappear. Who you really are is that aware presence itself, and that awareness registers the appearances that are occurring within it. When you notice a thought, what is doing the noticing is not you as you think yourself to be, an individual with a mind and a body. Awareness itself is noticing the thought, and you are that awareness.
What is it that enables us to say, “I know that I am”? It is the silent knowing of presence. Just settle in that pure presence. This is where all the sweetness is, all the juice. Simply notice this presence as you go about your life. Give all the attention you have been giving to thought to this presence. See what is looking at this writing, the space that is taking it all in. What you are looking at is printed word. What you are looking out of is the space that is taking it all in.

We don’t realize that what is needed is to let go of the log, knowing that we are going to drown. It’s only without the log that Reality reveals itself.

Efforting to get back to the View or the True State of Pure Presence never works. The more we do, the further we go, the further we go, the further away we get from This that is always right here. When we clarify into this moment, it’s done, we are here, it’s total and complete. And how many times in our day do we land right back here? It’s inevitable, we drop back into here constantly … yet most of the time when we do find ourselves back here in the “Net of the Now”, we shift out again by bemoaning our distance from it, or by conceptualizing about having it or not having it.
Don’t Nod!
When I interviewed Eckhart Tolle’s teacher Barry Long, just before his death some 15 years ago, I remember one powerful moment that has stayed with me ever since. Right in the middle of the interview, as I was identifying with and listening to the answer to one of my questions, he stopped mid-stream … raised his finger and like a school teacher admonishing his student strongly said, “Don’t nod, you have never been here before, you are listening to these words for the very first time … Don’t nod.” I immediately understood, pulling out of the past in my head, and gave myself over completely to the moment.
The View - Free the Moment it’s Seen
Every breath in truth is another fresh and new encounter with what is, a “seen the moment you look, free the moment it’s seen” moment. Without efforting, as we land back into this precious placeless place of pure being, we can always find another opportunity to stop nodding and start being. And here we can realise that This, yes This … right here, just as it is. Before we are swept away in another thought we can realise that we always end up back “here” … this fresh, evernew Here that we are in for the very first time. Here, this place that we’ve never been in before. “The moment of not being involved in thought, you spontaneously have arrived at the view, automatically.” - Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche The above reminder is the final practice. After many long years of meditation, contemplation, investigation, conceptualization, imagination … we finally reach this placeless place of pure being and pure knowing. Here, the search ends. Here we have arrived. Here, we realise our innate freedom and authentic identity as the Eternal Vastness, that which is prior to all form, yet allows for all form to manifest. Here, love is realised as oneself: I am that! And in this we come to see that, the That which we are is absolutely empty – we discover that we are emptiness Itself: pure, clear, whole and true. How simple, and this treas-
ure-trove awaits us all. All that it requires is the realisation that, when identification with thought ceases, what remains is what we’ve been seeking. Then every thought is seen as the constant outflowing of emptiness into form, and form back into emptiness.
Thought Requires a Dancing Partner
Here’s a simple enlightening experiment. Take one breath in right now. Allow yourself to be caught in the net of the now. Ride this one breath in completely … As you breathe in in full clarity, notice how enlightened beingness is already here. Do we dare call it enlightenment? What is enlightenment if not this? This is it! One breath in, one breath out … watch carefully, watch clearly, watch consciously - thought-free wakefulness … this is it! Feel the vastness in this one conscious breath, breathed in and breathed out. Stay gently focused, effortlessly watching what is … If thought starts to form, staying clear and present will free the thought before it can take shape because a complete thought requires your borrowed awareness for it to morph into form completely. If a thought does arise however, understand that you have lent your own beingness to it, you’ve unconsciously given yourself over to it, allowing thought-free awareness to transmute into form once again. Thought requires a dancing partner! And this is OK … Simply see it and let it go. The instruction here again is: “Seen the moment you look, free the moment it’s seen”. Watch the process carefully, see it, really see it and you are immediately liberated back into This, ever-fresh, ever-new, in it for the very first time once again. HANG ON FOR THE RIDE BY DENISE LINN Hattie Linn, my husband's grandmother, was a role model for me. She was independent, fun, and feisty and lived to almost a hundred years old. She loved to travel and have adventures. When she was in her nineties, she found herself close to the epicentre of a huge earthquake in California. When it hit, she was standing next to a door in her home; she grabbed on hard and thought, I'm going to hang on for the ride! The earthquake whipped her body back and forth, but Hattie staunchly hung on. When the shaking stopped, she yelped for joy. The earthquake had been like an enormous chiropractic adjustment that had released the pain in a chronically troublesome back. The earthquake had thrown her back in, and it felt great. If her attitude had been different and she had thought the world was coming to an end during the earthquake, I don't think that she would have had such a positive reaction.
Being Willing to Take Risks & Dance with Abandon
I want to be a glorious older woman. I want to be willing to take risks, learn new things, and dance with abandon under the stars no matter how old I am. But I know that being a glorious older woman starts with being a glorious younger woman. It starts here and now. We are all getting older every day. One day you and I will both be old, if it is our destiny to live that long. It is our choice whether we live in fear and act according to other people's expectations of what an older person is or whether we allow ourselves to be authentic and real. Start now; you are an elder in training. The more you experience joy, satisfaction, and fulfilment in the present moment, the easier it will be to have these qualities in the years ahead. As we age it's important to find the joy in the present moment rather than clinging to what we once were. On the day I turned forty I was lamenting growing older. Meadow, who was twelve years old at the time, said, "Mum, it's true that you're not as young as you once were ... but you're certainly not as old as you're going to be. Enjoy forty." And she was so right. It's all perspective.
I'm fifty-two now, and forty seems young to me.
Finding Joy in the Present
My mother is eighty-four years old and lives in a Veterans of War nursing home. She stays in bed most of the time. I was feeling sad about this, but she said, "Actually, it's great to be in bed all the time. I love to read and now I can read to my heart's content. And on top of this, my meals are brought to me!" I was impressed with her ability to find joy in the present, rather than clinging to what she once had. If you cling to what you once were or what you once had, you will be miserable. If you find joy where you are, your life will blossom. I don't know what I'll be like when I face my death. I'd like to think I will be noble and gracious. In my wishful imagination, my death will be a spiritual experience. But most deaths are painful, messy, unpleasant, and accompanied by fear. I don't know how or when I will die. I do know that my willingness to accept it will make death easier and will make me live more fully until that time.
It's a Good Day to Die: Being Complete Right Here & Right Now
In Native American culture, there is an expression that I love. When it is a beautiful day, we say, "It's a good day to die." To me this means that I am ready to face death today because, right now, I am complete and whole; therefore, I am ready to live fully this day. A woman who recognizes and accepts her natural cycles -- including death -- experiences an unparalleled depth of life. For as long as you fear death, your fear hovers over every moment of your life and filters every experience. Are you ready to die? If not, why not? What is incomplete or undone in your life? With whom do you need to communicate? Whom do you need to forgive? Whom do you need to tell that you love? If you aren't ready, get ready. You might die in sixty years or thirty or ten or next month or tomorrow. When you live as if every moment were your last -- your last sunset, your last rainbow, your last kiss -- then life becomes so much more pre-
cious. One of the best ways to prepare for your death is to be genuine and authentic. Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, a powerful advocate for dying with dignity and who has been with thousands of people as they died, says that people who are "wishy-washy Protestants, or wishy-washy Catholics, or wishy-washy Jews" have a terrible time dying. She claims that people who are "solidly something or solidly nothing, die with more peace." If your beliefs are half-hearted and merely intellectual, they will fall apart at the approach of death. Whoever you are and whatever you believe, be solid in it without hesitation or remorse; be all of it.
Acceptance & Authenticity: The Key to Living & Dying Well
It's comforting to think that we can die with dignity and grace, but death isn't always neat and tidy. Sometimes it's hard to maintain our sense of self and authenticity when we are faced with fear, suffering, and pain. However, as you begin now to rid yourself of anger, fear, and resentment, you'll be more prepared for death. This way, whenever it's time for you to cross over, it will truly be a "good day to die." Acceptance is the key to dying well. When that day is upon you, accept yourself in whatever emotional state you are in. If you are afraid, accept that. If you are angry, accept that. If you are whining, accept that. Acceptance and authenticity is the key to stepping through the veil with grace and ease.

Clearing Acne From the Inside Out
Acne is a common and often chronic skin condition – at least 85% of adolescents and young adults are affected by acne but it is by no means confined to these age groups. The condition is often dismissed by the medical fraternity as a “minor concern” but, for many people it severely affects their quality of life – lowering self-esteem and leading to anxiety, depression and social withdrawal. Fundamentally acne vulgaris is an androgen problem exacerbated by factors such as stress, other hormone imbalances, blood sugar imbalances, immune imbalances particularly inflammation & and overwhelmed organs of detoxification. Androgens are the “male-type” hormones produced by both men and women and act, amongst other things, to produce sebum (oil) at the hair follicle. If androgens are overactive increased sebum production can lead to blocked pores and subsequent bacterial infection – the result – a blackhead or pimple. Androgens typically rise in adolescents thus the prevalence of acne in this age group however it is not unusual to find “normal” blood androgen levels. In this case excess androgen activity is due to over active enzymes leading to androgen sensitivity at the hair follicle. This is the more likely cause of acne in older women. High stress levels are another culprit as they increase the production of androgens from the adrenal glands. The female menstrual cycle clearly influences the tendency to acne. Premenstrual tension syndromes are commonly made worse by impaired stress responses thus tying androgens and PMT together. Another consideration is blood sugar imbalances – excess insulin activity is definitely linked to excess androgen activity (this is particularly notable in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome). Managing

stress involves learning skills such as meditation and yoga; increasing exercise; correcting dietary imbalances and in many cases the addition of herbal medicines to support the adrenal glands. Many such herbs are available from a qualified herbalist and include herbs such as Rhodiola, Siberian Ginseng and Conodopsis. If female menstrual imbalances and/or hyperinsulinemia are present there are many herbal and nutritional approaches that can help. Finally, there are herbs that can be prescribed that specifically act as anti-androgens including Paonia, Licorice and Saw Palmetto. We must also consider the role of our skin as a detoxification organ. From the natural medicine point of view our skin carries the burden if other major detoxication organs such as the gut, liver and lymphatics are overwhelmed. Immunity is also compromised if these systems are overwhelmed increasing the likelihood of inflammation and infection – also key components of acne. Addressing these three systems through diet, lifestyle, and herbal “detoxification” often goes a long way to improve all sorts of skin conditions including acne. Diet clearly influences the tendency to acne in many people particularly a high intake of poor dietary fats (saturated, transfats, highly processed fats, too many Omega 6’s etc), processed foods of all sorts, high sugar, alcohol, sports drinks etc. Adopting a “low stress” diet high in whole foods rich in dietary fibres & antioxidants; filtered water; good fats (omega 3’s) and adequate high quality protein goes a long way to promoting good health and calming acne. Specifically addressing bowel health with a series of probiotics, pre-biotics, and anti-bacterial/ anti-parasitic herbal medicines is highly recommended. This is followed by specific herbal
medicines for liver health such at high dose St Mary’s Thistle or Andrographis extracts and other nutritional co-factors for liver health. Lymphatics clearance (which particularly affects the clearance of dietary fats) can be greatly enhanced with numerous herbal medicines such as Echinacea, Golden Seal, Calendula & Red Clover. Skin brushing (body, arms and legs), adequate filtered water and exercise also help with lymphatic clearance. Obviously “Clearing Acne from the Inside Out” is not a simple, one prescription and you are done sort of condition. In many cases acne, particularly acne that persists is a sign that general health is in need of overhaul. A 2016 article in the journal Diabetes Care revealed that people with diabetes have a much higher risk of being depressed—and people with depression have a much higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes. The study focused on more than two thousand people and determined that if people didn't have pesticides in their system, even if they were obese, the chances of getting diabetes were next to nothing. Let me repeat that: if there were no pesticides or herbicides found in a person— that person had virtually no risk of diabetes, even if obese! There is a clear connection between toxic metals and chemicals that can enter your body and cause disruption of the brain, immune system, and hormonal system. So, what can you do about it?
STEP 1: LIFESTYLE CHANGES
For many people, even with severe issues of digestion and mood, this first step is quite effective, even by itself.
Drink Up
Drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day. I like to drink one or two large glasses of room temperature water in the morning, and then I carry my stainless steel bottle to drink during the workday. If possible, consider purchasing a high-quality water filter.
Bring in the Fibre
Fibre is important to clean out the body and remove inflammation, for it basically sucks up all the toxins, hormonal by-products, and cholesterol released by the liver. One way to know if you are taking in enough fibre is to check your poop. Healthy movement is one easy, full-diameter bowel movement per day. The better your poops, the better your brain will work. Here are some good sources of dietary fibre: Organic, unsulphured prunes 1 cup cooked greens like kale or Swiss chard 2 cups fresh salad 1 teaspoon fine-grade psyllium in a glass of water once or twice a day 1 to 2 tablespoons of flax meal in your cereal or on a salad 1 organic carrot and 1 rib of organic celery 1 apple a day 1 cup lentil soup A note of caution: You may not need to add all these fibres, and
do not add them all at once. It really depends on your particular system what, and how much, you need, so try them slowly. I have also noticed that many patients with irritable bowel syndrome should stay away from raw foods, for sometimes these can aggravate that condition.
Move Your Body
Your lymphatic system is like the sewage system for your body, taking in all the sludge that will eventually be dumped out. Unlike your blood vessels, your lymphatic system does not move this fluid unless you are moving your muscles. If you don't exercise, there's no way to clear out the sludge. At minimum, walk every day for thirty minutes.
Sleep It Off
Sleep is crucial for a good brain function and detoxification. Remember to go to bed by eleven p.m. at the latest and to rack up at least seven and a half hours of sleep every night.
STEP 2: CLEAR THE DIGESTIVE TRACT
Once you've made the lifestyle change detailed in step 1 and you're having daily bowel movements, you can start working on the action plan of step 2. This plan can be carried out for up to three weeks. When you remove the toxic onslaught, then your body has a better chance to heal and clean up. I usually recommend my patients do this step two or three times a year.
Peanuts (other raw nuts are fine) Corn products of any kind You'll also want to add antiinflammatory foods to your diet: 1 tablespoon olive oil, unheated on top of your food or salad Raw nuts and seeds like walnuts, sunflower seeds, or pumpkin seeds Organic berries, especially blueberries, raspberries, or lingonberries Grass-fed beef (Try to limit red meat to once a week.) Organic, free-range chicken Cold-water, low-mercury, wild fish like wild salmon, mackerel, or cod.
Organic Foods
Take note of which foods in your diet are high in pesticides and switch these to organic. The foods highest in pesticides, according to the Environmental Working Group, include berries, celery, apples, peaches, nectarines, grapes, bell peppers, potatoes, kale, and collard greens. Keeping these foods organic significantly decreases the levels of pesticide in your body.

A good rule of thumb is that if you have not heard of the ingredient, or can't pronounce it, it's probably worth staying away from. Also, try to take off your shoes when you enter your house. Many of the heavy metals in our homes are tracked in on our shoes.
Sauna
You can increase the detoxification benefit of exercise by adding a good sweat to your day four days a week for these three weeks. Plan on spending twenty minutes in the sauna—if you can find a dry sauna, this will work the best, for the dry heat pulls even more junk out of your system. The best time to go is after your exercise. Make sure you drink some water before you hit the sauna, and don't bring in a magazine—through off-gassing, these emit some of the chemicals we are trying to get rid of.

The skin is a major organ of elimination. Physical detoxing can open the door to emotionally letting go. Sometimes, an effective detox also includes releasing negative messages and thoughts that do not serve us in a healthy way.
STEP 3: FLUSH OUT TOXINS
Step 3 should be performed over the same three weeks you do steps 1 and 2. But remember, if you are not having a bowel movement every day, only perform step 1. When you have a bowel movement, then you can add steps 2 and 3 for three full weeks.
Green Superfoods
Add chlorella and spirulina to a drink once a day. These freshwater algae are mild detoxifiers. Their fibres help bind heavy metals, pesticides, and even polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). PCBs were banned in the 1970s; however, they're still found in the environment, and we take these in when we eat fish and inorganic butter. Green superfoods help your body release them. Chlorella and spirulina, like most green superfood drinks, come in powders you can add to a big glass of water. I recommend starting the day by having a nice green drink with a squeeze of lemon about thirty minutes before your breakfast.

Coriander
Coriander is a common herb
with an active component called mercaptan, which can penetrate the blood-brain barrier, find mercury, bind it, and release it into general circulation, where the liver and kidneys can help move it out of the body. Coriander also has blood sugar lowering properties and is an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant. I do not recommend using coriander unless you are also using a chlorella or spirulina product to make sure any released metals are ushered out of the body.
Garlic and Antioxidants
If you prefer fresh garlic, eat one to two raw cloves. You can dice them and mix them with wildflower honey for palatability. If you prefer a capsule, then you can purchase a concentrated garlic extract and take about 600 mg twice a day. Also take a supplement that includes calcium (500 mg), magnesium (250 mg), zinc (15 mg), selenium (200 mcg), and manganese (10 mg). The presence of these can stop your body from absorbing toxic metals like lead, mercury, and aluminium.

Inflammatory Foods
In the discussion above, I didn't tell you to stop eating this or that food. I find that when we focus on what is being taken away, most people feel deprived. So for the long term, the plan in step 1 is to include healthy foods—not so much to exclude the unhealthy ones. To detox, though, this step asks you to avoid (for three quick weeks) foods that are considered the most likely to cause inflammation. The foods you will want to avoid include: Dairy and cow's milk products (rice milk, almond milk, and hemp milk are good alternatives) Gluten (from wheat, rye, triticale, oat, and barley)—this includes all conventionally made pasta, cookies, and so on (quinoa, wild and brown rice are okay) Soy and tofu products Citrus (except grapefruit and lemons)

Principles of Biodynamic Healing Work BY ROGER GILCHRIST The development of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, also called Craniosacral Biodynamics, has led the way into new territories of awareness and therapeutic practice. Craniosacral Biodynamics goes well beyond regular craniosacral therapy (more of a manual medicine), as the Biodynamic approach focuses on working with the underlying forces of health and wellness. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is much closer to the original cranial work in osteopathy, and at the same time is lightyears ahead by embracing the principles of biophysics. Craniosacral Biodynamics endeavours to work with the relationships of the tissues of the physical body, the fluid dynamics that influence the tissues, and the energetic organizing forces within the other dynamics. Biodynamic healing work is a whole body therapy. When the practitioner sufficiently understands anatomy and physiology, Biodynamic healing work can be applied to most any health

condition. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy define five Principles at the core of this therapeutic practice: Holism: The recognition that the human system is essentially whole, and that it works to maintain its integrity as a first priority. The realization of holism then becomes a meta-principle for all the others. Bioenergy: All behaviours and physiological changes draw upon natural bioenergy to support their processes. Research in biophysics demonstrates changes in the biofield in relationship to physiological changes in the body. What if therapeutic work could engage both levels at the same time? Inherent Healing Processes: A general progression of the healing process can be seen in most cases, regardless of the particular symptomatic features. This is how life conducts its self-healing process. When a therapeutic practitioner understands the hall-

Inertia organizes Stress: Stress patterns range from sprained ankles or broken bones and the resulting connective tissue strains, to internal organ dysfunctions, facilitation in the nervous system, emotional stresses and so on. Any of these stresses require bioenergy to stabilize the stress pattern by becoming inertial. The inertial pattern affects all levels of the living system and creates limitations to health. Healing happens in the Present: Healing always occurs in present time. Even when we are healing the relationship to a historic event, or the left-over strains in the tissues after and an injury, the healing takes place now. That is the only time it can happen. It is literally true that when we are able to release our traumas of the past, the living system reboots with new opportunities, and we become fully present! Losing the Fear of Pain & Fear of Love
The fear of love leads us to become guarded, sarcastic, and defensive. We are so frightened of being hurt, manipulated, abused, or controlled that we seal our heart away from many experiences of receiving or giving love. The heart chakra becomes clogged, shrunken, and dirty from fears associated with love. Unfortunately, when we close our hearts to love, we also shut off the awareness of God speaking through our clairsentience. Ironically, this clairsentience reliably leads us to relationships that honor and support us. When we block the awareness of clairsentient Divine guidance, we are un-

Meditation to Heal Your Heart ChakraInstructions for Heart Healing Meditation
Here is a powerful healing meditation to help you lose your fears about love and to cleanse your heart chakra. You may want to record this meditation with soft background music, so you can easily listen to it once or twice a day. 1. With your eyes closed, and
in a comfortable position, take two or three very deep, cleansing breaths. As you breathe in, you take this healing energy into your lungs, your cells, and your heart. Concentrate on your heart a moment, as you allow the emeraldgreen light to cleanse away any negativity that may have caused you to feel pain. 2. Visualize a beautiful cloud of emerald green light surrounding you. 3. With a deep breath, be willing to allow the light to carry away any fears you may have about love. Be willing to release the fear of feeling love. You need do nothing else except breathe and hold the intention to heal yourself of the fear of love. Just be willing to be healed, and God and the angels will do everything else. Take another deep breath, as you become willing to release the fear of being loved, including the fear that if you are loved, you could be manipulated, tricked, used, abandoned, rejected, persecuted, or hurt. With another deep breath, allow all of these fears from any lifetime to be lifted and carried away. 4. Now, allow the light to cleanse you of any fears you may have about giving love. With a deep breath, be willing to release the fear that if you give love, you could be controlled, abused, deceived, betrayed, maimed, or hurt in any way. Allow all of these fears to be lifted
completely, and feel your heart expanding to its natural loving state. 5. Allow yourself to release any old unforgiveness you may be harbouring toward those who seem to have hurt you in a love relationship. Become willing to release unforgiveness toward your mother ... toward your father . . . toward other parental figures . . . toward your siblings ... toward your childhood friends ... toward your adolescent friends ... toward your first love ... toward those whom you dated and loved ... toward anyone you lived with or married. . . . Allow all of your hurts and disappointments associated with love to be cleansed and fully carried away. You don't want the hurt, you don't need it, and with another deep breath, it is lifted to the light where it is transmuted and purified. Only the lessons remain, and the pure essence of love contained within each relationship, since that is the only thing that was ever eternal and real within each of your relationships. 6. Now, with another deep breath, allow the light to cleanse you completely. Be willing to release any unforgiveness you may hold toward yourself connected to love. Be willing to forgive yourself for betraying yourself, for ignoring your intuition, or for not looking out for your highest interests. Give yourself a hug, either in your mind or with your arms. Reassure your in-
ner self that you will never again engage in self-betrayal. 7. You now commit to following your intuition and discernment, so you could never be or stay in any relationship that would hurt you. Fully release the unforgiveness for any mistakes that you think you may have made in any relationship, including your relationship with yourself. And with another very deep cleansing breath, feel yourself healed, whole, and ready to enjoy the love that is the truth about who you really are. IN CELEBRATION OF FAMILY BY SUSANNE MARIE As always when I am about to write an article, I spend a lot of time thinking before I ever commit any thought to paper. I look at what is happening in my life and think about conversations and interactions I have had with people to see if any theme becomes apparent. This time it was easy. Over the course of a few days, I had conversations with many family members. It is not like this every week, but by a beautiful coincidence I spoke with each of my three sons, with each of their partners and to all five of my grandchildren. Within that same few days I also spoke to each of my four brothers and sisters. Not only all of those but a number of my cousins near and far called or made contact. Wow! Almost two years ago I wrote about Celebration of Friendship. Now for the Celebration of Family. I am truly grateful for all of my family so I will relate a few things I love about my family and the way we celebrate life. I have to start by going back to my parents. One of the highlights of our year was the three week caravan holiday back in the earlier days of caravanning - especially with a family with five children! Somehow we all managed to cram in to our modest vehicle and set off for an adventure towing a small caravan. These led to most of our family being bitten by the travel bug. One of the greatest memories was our frequent visits to my mother’s cousins, who seemed to live all over Victoria mainly on farms. They were some of the most welcoming and hospitable
people I have ever met. We were welcomed with open arms, had country meals, overnight stays and were introduced to the wonders of farm life. Meeting first cousins led to meeting second and third cousins and cousins once removed. We are still in touch with many of those still alive. I have brothers and sisters in Sydney, Melbourne, South Western Victoria and one in Adelaide. We still see each other to celebrate special occasions such as “O” birthdays and special anniversaries. We have travelled in crazy ways half across Australia to meet together to celebrate in places such as the Flinders Ranges and Harrow, Victoria. On one occasion three of us left Adelaide in the morning (after one sister had driven from the far north of South Australia). We drove to Melbourne and picked up another sister then drove overnight (battling semis) to arrive in Sydney at six am, quickly donned wigs and costumes and knocked on the door of my oldest brother whose 50th birthday it was at 6am and sang a song to him we had composed overnight. We shared much laughter and fun together before returning home the next day. My sister and I who are still in Adelaide take part once a year in something we have named Cuzauntmas. It used to be a gathering of the new generation of cousins and their children near Christmas (Cuzmas), but now they include us as we are the only other members of my family left in Adelaide. It is always a fun day.
All of this does not mean we have never had a disagreement or a problem. We have, as well as our share of deaths of close loved ones, of divorces and remarriages. Through all of this, we also realise the strength and value of being part of a family that shares strong bonds of love and respect for our differing points of view. I feel so fortunate too that my three sons, their wonderful partners and beautiful families are all in Adelaide. Some have spent time living in other parts of the world, but at the moment all reside in Adelaide and we see each other on a regular basis, in small and larger groups. What joy it is to talk to and spend time with my five precious Grandchildren. I would need to write a book to share the wonderful times that we all spend together. Of course within families, there are sometimes disagreements or other tense situations that happen. Because we see the bond we have as so important, we work through any issues that arise and choose to put differences aside. Love and respect for one another’s differences and similarities is of prime importance in being able to sustain good relationships. I know there are many who are not so lucky within their family, but for me, I feel that the more love we can give to one another and the more we are willing to respect others for their differences and to allow them the space to follow their own chosen paths, the better our world will be. Celebrate and cherish those you love today!! ANCIENT EGYPTIAN DIVINATION AND PROPHECY
Divination in Ancient Egypt meant to commune with the Divine specifically in this case with the Egyptian Gods and Goddesses and to seek their wise counsel, which is similar to consulting a Psychic today who is a Trance Channel for Ascended Masters or Archangels. So, Divination might have included Prophecy or Predicting Future Events or may simply have been used more as diagnostic tool to determine the cause of a difficult situation and how best to resolve it. For myself as a Psychic I usually prefer to seek the advice first of the Divinities when giving a Psychic Reading rather than going straight into simply giving predictions about a client’s life – it follows my original training as a Registered Nurse to first seek the cause of a difficult situation then look at possible solutions. Few clients come for a reading when all is well in their lives and it was the same in ancient Egypt as well as it’s usually best to consider a diagnosis first before giving a prognosis. So, the ancient Egyptian Priestesses of the Goddess Auset (aka Isis) took the place of our Nurses, Counsellors and Psychics today while the male Priests of Amun Ra focussed more on accurate Prophecy in the form of trance channelling answers about the future in response to direct questions. Training in the Temples in Divination and Prophecy took about 12 years in total and was regarded as a sacred science important for the safety and security of all Egyptian people and so as Egypt became a powerful and wealthy country for far longer than is recorded in history it also became famous for its Prophecy and Alchemy.
DIVINATION
Divination was usually performed by gazing into scrying mirrors of Blue Lapis or Black Obsidian Crystal or crystal bowls filled with Blessed Water and Essential Oils of Frankincense and Blue Lotus. This brought about a trance state in a highly-trained Priestess enabling them to communication about their visions and psychic insights as well as speak inspired words from the Divinities to the seeker of Divine Wisdom. The seeker would ask questions and then be guided to solutions to problems or given advice about the best path to follow in others. The future was not seen as “Fixed” and certainly the Priestesses didn’t give readings just entertainment and spent considerable time in preparation – Divination advice was taken very seriously. Some small Papyrus Scrolls were used for Divination that were used rather like the Tarot today but they had Hieroglyphic Symbols on them and sometimes the image of the best God or Goddess to invoke for help with a certain problem. The everyday person could use these as a simple tool for themselves similar to
how we may use Oracle Cards today but they were also used by the Priestesses as well. Numerology was certainly practised also – the year you were born in was overseen by a Divinity who both selected your future life path challenges and special abilities at birth. The Goddess Auset was during her life on earth both a Midwife and a powerful Prophetess who told the mother about her baby’s Soul Path in Life soon after she delivered the child as did her Priestesses later in time.
PROPHECY
Prophecy was given to determine the outcome of a personal situation plus for future planning in regard to threats of invasion and war. Why not ask to see your future life if the priest could predict it accurately plus reassure yourself about the world in the foreseeable future? Prophecy was especially sought after from the Priests of Amun Ra by people all over the present day Middle East and Europe even though the position of their Temple was at an Oasis in the centre of the desert! Alexander the Great came from Greece in about 332 BC to the Tempe of Amun Ra in the hope of gaining a positive prophecy and blessings by the High Priests there about his future conquests in Asia. The answer was said to be given directly to Alexander by the High Priest on behalf of the God Amun Ra and so accurate were the past Prophecies there that he was seen virtually as the son of Amun Ra after his very positive prophecy and messages so he was welcomed into Egypt after this favourable answer. By this time, Egyptian civilisation and the Priesthood was no longer as powerful as in the past and the prediction was not entirely correct. 5-7,000 years ago was the peak period of Prophetic Psychic Science in Ancient Egypt with a rapid decline 3,000 years ago. The Pharaoh of Egypt had his own Prophet/High Priest to advise him on the outcome of all decisions he made plus give him psychic advice each day – no important decision was made without this. The words spoken were accepted as truth and so Egypt became known as the home of Prophecy and Divination and it remained powerful and prosperous for thousands of years due to this. Relax your shoulders and neck. Erase any expression from your face. With the next breath, focus your attention at the navel. Continue to breathe deeply and slowly from the abdomen. Let go of all tension and concerns. Inhale. Feel a stream of energy enter through your crown at the top of your head. As you exhale, pump this energy out from your heart centre, filling your aura with light. Now imagine that you have come to a spot several yards away, and look back to notice the colour of your aura. You may see one or several colours, or a colour may come to mind. Or you might think of something that you associate with a colour -- like an apple, an orange, a lemon, a pine tree, or a blue sky.
Exercise: Changing the Colour of Your Aura
In this exercise, we will experiment with changing the colour of the aura. Observe any feelings, emotions, sensations, memories and thoughts as we try on the colours of the rainbow. Some colours will feel cooler, warmer, more comfortable, more alert. Be attentive too to how the aura it affected. It may feel compact or porous, loose or tight, heavy, dark, or light. Start by imagining that your aura it filled with a red mist. Slowly scan your body from head to toe, at the level of the skin, from deep within, and then from the aura itself. Notice any changes in what you are sensing and feeling. Stay with the sensation. Continue to breathe. Do you feel heat? Coolness? Happy? Sad? Energetic? What emotion are you experiencing? Whatever you are feeling is valid. It will be different for each of us. Now watch the red slowly fade into orange, and repeat the Scanning.
Aura Colours Have Different Sensations
Take your time and carefully observe all sensation. Note to which area of the body you are most drawn. How transparent does your aura seem? How dense? What does the surface seem like? Are there any cloudy areas? Teary? Leaks? Bumpy? Lumpy places? Allow the orange to fade into a brilliant yellow. Repeat your observations of bodily sensations, emotion and thought. Observe the degree of fluidity... density? stringiness... buoyancy. Do memories surface? Now replace the yellow with a deep forest green, letting it wash over your entire aura. With shoulders relaxed, and continuing to breathe, take the time to note how your are feeling. Where is the sensation strongest? Are you feeling calm? Agi-
tated? Restless? Alert? Happy? Sad? Energetic? Repeat this process with blue, indigo, violet, white, silver, gold. Be sure to take the time to fully experience the properties of each colour. These properties are unique to each individual. Treasure this gift.
Changing your Aura Colour at Will
Recall the different sensations that have come to you. You can recreate them at any time simply by visualizing the designated colour and allowing it to fill your aura as you breath deeply. Some colours will feel lighter, more buoyant, and exuberant. Others will feel more comforting and secure. Take a moment now to flood your aura with the colour that felt most pleasant to you. When the colour is strong, press the tips of your thumbs to ring fingers to anchor this memory. You can now use this mudra, or hand position, to help you reconnect with this sensation at any time, no matter what else is going on. If you are out in an unfamiliar crowd, you may want to make your aura more dense to afford more protection. You can enhance this affect by choosing the colour that felt the most dense to you. When you are by the ocean or in the woods, at a lake or mountain, you will want to allow more of the surrounding environment to penetrate the aura. Then chose the colour that allows in the most light. BUNNIES, BUTTONS & OTHER THINGS: BY FRAN TOMLIN OK, so imagine we are all each of us one of those “Energiser “ bunnies i.e ‘turn the battery on & off they go’...Think robotic for ‘expected behaviours’ in relation to when their button is pushed to ‘ON’ . Then imagine that instead of just one button for ‘on’ , we are also all wearing a full metal jacket primed with many buttons & subsidiary buttons just ready & waiting to be pushed. These buttons are scattered all over & across our energiser bunny jackets. Imagine the big blue button applies to when you are actually first born onto the planet – it gets pushed to ‘ON’ just by the process of birth. When it does it releases its appropriate & expected baby behaviours ...crying for food, comfort etc , peacefully sleeping when all needs are met. Then, as you get older, year by year, all the other buttons & subsidiary buttons ( denoting reactions, emotions etc) get pushed by all sorts of other energiser bunnies right across the board. That metal jacket gets a work out! From insignificant individuals in your life to significant ones
– all setting off chain reactions; tumultuous webs of conflicting & criss crossing electrical currents ; pent up energies reactively sparking off every which way , down through the jacket into & across the torso affecting the whole body through each of the primary & subsidiary buttons. These buttons include them all – the big, medium, small & teeny multicoloured buttons.. In other words a literal web of cross currents ; setting off a minefield of psychological , emotional disturbances & reactions - almost instantly causing chaos , blackouts, meltdowns & fused wires. There’s no wonder we break down , get confused , misunderstand, become highly reactive.. to name just a few of the effects. And all this in between & because of trying to satisfy & sustain all the social ‘norms’ of our times, whatever they may be. There we are, so wanting to be our best, to honour our ‘pre-set’ buttons, to be loved & appreciated for all our efforts, hard work & higher aspirations. And then, uh oh.... watch out
when one bunny ‘ goes off the rails’ – or the wires get jammed & he opts out. Look out! How many of the reactions to this ‘aberrant’ behaviour are genuinely positive or supportive? OR that aberrant behaviour doesn’t unsettle all the other robotic bunnies ? Yet, in that seeming disconnect , precisely when he is lacking his ‘battery ‘ and his go go behaviour, when he finally pulls off that full metal jacket disconnecting all those primed buttons & crossed wires – he becomes just bunny. He becomes one with the Soul hidden inside the jacket. Adorable, loveable bunny. Soft, pliable, one whom most of us just want to pick up, cuddle & hold close ; deriving strength & comfort from his simple centredness of just Being. His just Being.
