“Surrounding almost”

ALEXANDRE SANTOS nasceu em Goiânia no ano de 1967. Com a idade de 24 anos fugiu da ditadura do governo brasileiro e da que infligia em si próprio e foi para Londres. Encontrou sentido numa câmera fotográfica e por fim estudou na Kengington and Chelsea Adult College. Por quase quatro anos fotografou o cotidiano londrino. De volta ao Brasil, no ano de 1994 obteve um artigo na prestigiada revista paulista IRISfoto. No mesmo ano sua primeira exposição aconteceu na cidade de Curitiba (Galeria de Arte do Inter Brasil-Estados Unidos). Intitulada “Londres, do lado sem luz” a pesquisa incorporou o cotidiano dos sem-tetos. Dois anos depois incluiu momentos mais abrangentes do cotidiano londrino, evoluindo o projeto para a exposição “Nas luzes da ribalta de Londres” (Fotogaleria do Teatro Nacional/ Brasília - DF). No decorrer dos quatorze anos seguintes o cotidiano humano enraizou-se por mais quatro outras cidades: Brasília, Goiânia, Anápolis e Curitiba. Ampliando o estudo para uma investigação da cidade interior. Uma cidade (quase) inventada materializou-se em 2010 no projeto “Em torno do quase”(www.emtornodoquase.blogspot.com). Alexandre Santos tem dado continuidade a dois outros projetos: “Labirinto móvel” (www.labirintomovel.blogspot.com) e “Vestígios Goiânia” (www.vestigiosgyn.blogspot.com). O primeiro foi iniciado em 1992 e tem o anseio de fazer um estudo da paixão artística através da nudez do corpo. O segundo, iniciado em 2008 e ainda em progresso, procura investigar a cidade de Goiânia através de seus vestígios e intervalos. (Março/2011)
ALEXANDRE SANTOS was born in Goiânia/Brazil in 1967. At the age of 24 he run away from the Brazilian Government’s dictatorship and also the one inflicted on him by himself and went to London. Santos found a path with a photographic camera and ended up studying at the Kensington and Chelsea Adult Education College. During almost four years he photographed the British daily life. Back to Brazil in 1994 he got an article at the distinguished brazilian photographic magazine IRISfoto, from São Paulo. On the same year he did his first exhibition at the Brazil/USA Inter Art Gallery Centre on Curitiba city. Entitled “London, from the side without light” the study embodied homeless people daily life. Two years later other moments of the London daily life were incorporated, enlarging the project to the exhibition “In the lime lights of London” (Photogallery of the National Theater - Brasilia/Federal District). In the course of the next fourteen years the moments of the human daily life settled down for other four cities: Curitiba, Brasília, Goiânia, Anápolis. This approach brought into life (in 2010) an investigation of the inner city. An (almost) invented city materialized on “Surrounding almost” (www.emtornodoquase.blogspot.com). Santos is carrying out two other projects: “Moving Labyrinth” (www.labirintomovel.blogspot.com ) and “Traces Goiânia” (www. vestigiosgyn.blogspot.com). The first one began on 1992 and through the naked body investigates the artistic passion. The second one, emerged from 2008 and still in progress, investigates the city of Goiânia by its traces and intervals. (March/2011)
During nineteen years I persisted on “Surrounding almost” project. An (almost) invented city materialized on it by five cities’ daily lives: London, Brasília, Goiânia, Anápolis and Curitiba. The message on “Surrounding almost” deals with the idea that we can only find home when we feel our own inner city.
