It incessantly astounds me when I get the opportunity to meet with a business owner who holds so much passion for a role they embrace within their chosen industry. Andy was no exception to this. Him and his team are taking on the everchanging issues that pop up in the tech world by storm, to ensure technology continues to hold use of which it was originally created for: to make life easier!
It’s hard to imagine that just under 20,000 new viruses and software capable to access important data are formed every day. Which begs the question: how can we ensure our valuable information is kept safe and secure from that amount of possible attacks? Well, with companies such as CLS providing invaluable advice and constantly finding ways to protect our systems, we can be happy in the knowledge that there are resolutions to these problems. But CLS don’t just fix a problem with your device, they also provide homes and businesses with remote IT support, and even go as far as to provide data recovery. I had the pleasure of chatting to Andy to find out more about the tech world.

Kym Bellringer
Freelance Journalist
What started your passion for the world of technology? Andy: It all started back when I was about 14. When I was a boy at school there were only two computers so it was hard to try to get to grips with them back then. Much later I attended a couple of courses which brought me to working for myself, I didn’t want to work for somebody else so I started off on my own. I got my first contract with a local travel agents who are still on my books 15 years later.
2.
As technology is something which is forever evolving, how do you stay up to date with the requirements of modern technical equipment? Andy: It’s a constant headache! It’s all about training and researching every single day. There is not a day that goes by where we don’t find something new in the industry: new viruses or products, we research it all and we are always learning, never stopping. Which is why I love this job.
3.
Do you have any tips for ensuring your computer/device is kept in top working order?
Andy: If you are on Windows©, always keep everything up to date and make sure you have good protection; BullGuard is one of the best; it is the only one to stop ransomware which was a big problem in the tech world last year. If you are looking for something free, then Avast is the better one to use. And for any antivirus software use Malware which can be free or paid for depending on the use. We install Malware on to every laptop or computer that leaves here free of charge.
4.
The NCSA (National Cyber Security Alliance) reports that there are roughly 82,000 new threats within the cyber world every day. What is the best advice you would give for protection against Cybercrime? Andy: With everything you do on the internet always look for a green padlock at the top of the screen, make sure you are protected before entering any websites you are unsure about and remember that everything you click on is an activation of some kind. The most important bit of advice I can give is that if you are typing “free” in to the search engine, remember nothing is free, you will always pay for it one way or the other so make sure you read any small print provided.
5.
On average, how long could it take to find a problem within a device? Andy: We see that many different problems. An issue could be solved within as little as five minutes but it depends on the problem. If it is something like a new virus which has taken over your system, it could take a couple of days to find a solution and fix. We provide a full service for £39.00 which includes a full scan of your system for spyware or viruses, an optimisation of the drive to make it run faster, the removal of any hidden rubbish which shouldn’t be on there, and we will remove any programmes in the background that should be running as well as bringing back the ones that should but have been stopped.
6.
Do you have any plans for future expansion? Andy: Excitingly, we have just been accepted to be an EE and BT partner which means we can now provide BT business lines and EE mobile broadband to businesses. We are Microsoft© partners and looking in to branching out a bit more with that and we are BullGuard partners. We have also signed up for the affiliation of the new data protection act coming in to play next year which will help us to provide support for these changes.
7.
As well as supplying support for businesses, you also offer home support. What support services could you provide for anybody with a computer at home? Andy: If you visit our website you can click on the link at the very top which will notify us of an issue which has occurred in your system, we are then able to access your computer remotely and fix the problem without you leaving the house. This is a concept not just relatable to businesses, it also means we can accommodate for anyone who struggles to get to the CLS shop. Even if the shop is shut, the notification will come directly to our laptops. We also supply everything you could possibly need - tech related - in store.
8.
Do you have anything upcoming for 2018? Andy: For 2018 we are entering the world of gaming a little more, we have machines in the shop to suit the gaming industry with the latest in light involvement within the machines themselves. We also have upcoming services for the new year so keep posted.

FUN FACT Some discouraging information: Most people fail in adhering to their stated New Year’s resolutions. Specifically, 22% fail after one week, 40% after one month, 50% after three months, 60% after six months, and 81% after twenty-four months!
A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior, to accomplish a personal goal or otherwise improve their life.
RELIGIOUS ORIGINS
Babylonians made promises to their gods at the start of each year that they would return borrowed objects and pay their debts. The Romans began each year by making promises to the god Janus, for whom the month of January is named. In the Medieval era, the knights took the “peacock vow” at the end of the Christmas season each year to re-affirm their commitment to chivalry. At watchnight services, many Christians prepare for the year ahead by praying and making these resolutions. This tradition has many other religious parallels. During Judaism’s New Year, Rosh Hashanah, through the High Holidays and culminating in Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), one is to reflect upon one’s wrongdoings over the year and both seek and offer forgiveness. People can act similarly during the Christian liturgical season of Lent, although the motive behind this holiday is more of sacrifice than of responsibility. In fact, the Methodist practice of New Year’s resolutions came, in part, from the Lenten sacrifices. The concept, regardless of creed, is to reflect upon self-improvement annually. 26
PARTICIPATION
At the end of the Great Depression, about a quarter of American adults formed New Year’s resolutions. At the start of the 21st century, about 40% did. In fact, according to the American Medical Association, approximately 40% to 50% of Americans participate in the New Year’s resolution tradition from the 1995 Epcot and 1985 Gallop Polls. It should also be noted that the 46% of those who made common resolutions (e.g. weight loss, exercise programs, quitting smoking) were over ten times as likely to succeed, compared to only 4% who chose not to make resolutions.
POPULAR GOALS
Some examples include resolutions to donate to the poor more often, to become more assertive, or to become more environmentally responsible. Popular goals include resolutions to: Improve physical well-being: eat healthy food, lose weight, exercise more, eat better, drink less alcohol, quit smoking, stop biting nails, get rid of old bad habits. Improve mental well-being: think positive, laugh more often, enjoy life. Improve finances: get out of debt, save money, make small investments. Improve career: perform better at current job, get a better job, establish own business. Improve education: improve grades, get a

better education, learn something new (such as a foreign language or music), study often, read more books, improve talents. Improve self: become more organized, reduce stress, be less grumpy, manage time, be more independent, perhaps watch less television, play fewer sitting-down video games. Take a trip or lifetime vacation. Volunteer to help others, practice life skills, use civic virtue, give to charity, volunteer to work parttime in a charity organization. Get along better with people, improve social skills, enhance social intelligence. Make new friends. Spend quality time with family members. Settle down, get engaged/get married, have kids. Pray more, be closer to God, be more spiritual. Be more involved in sports or different activities. Spend less time on social media (such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
. . . . . . . . . .
SUCCESS RATE
The most common reason for participants failing their New Years’ Resolutions was setting themselves unrealistic goals (35%), while 33% didn’t keep track of their progress and a further 23% forgot about it. About one in 10 respondents claimed they made too many resolutions.

CASTLE STREET MEDICAL CENTRE The Patient Participation Group would like to thank our patients for their continued support. The practice has been through a period of change after being taken over by DCHS. It has taken some time for us to get used to a new regime, a different way of working, along with new forward looking ideas. The practice hope to have a new GP starting in January. The next Registrar rotation commences in December 2017 with two new doctors who are with us for four months’ training. We are still looking into the possibility of obtaining a few more of the higher seat chairs, and I believe that DCHS have looked at the possibility of having hand rails fitted along the corridor wall. For some time now, the PPG have asked that photographs of staff members be displayed in the waiting room. Grant Stothard, chair of PPG.

PAUL YOUNG and CHINA CRISIS are coming to play SHEFFIELD, The Foundry on Thursday 8th February 2018! Born on 17th January 1956, Paul Anthony Young was the middle child of three. His interest in music dates back to when he was very young, when he learnt to play piano and then the guitar. On leaving school he worked with his father for Vauxhall Motors and played in various bands at night. He played Bass guitar in his first band but eventually lack of demand for bass players led him back to his first passion, singing. These were lean times musically because his preferred style of music – Soul, was not particularly popular. However he managed to sing in various bands such as Kat Kool & The Kool Kats and later in the better known Street Band. In December of 79’ the Street band broke up and Paul went on to form the Q- Tips. During the next two years Paul introduced himself to more and more of the British public through the Q-Tips extensive touring playing 700 shows all over the UK. This period of intense activity gave Paul the chance to develop his unique voice and stage persona. The Q-Tips went their separate ways at the end of 82’ and Paul signed as a solo artist with CBS/SONY Records. Paul really came into his own with a formidably accomplished solo debut album, “NO PARLEZ” released in 83’ and including the number one single “Wherever I Lay My Hat” which maintained the number 1 spot for most of that summer followed by “Come Back And Stay” which maintained Paul’s presence at the top of the charts. With the release of his second album “The Secret Of Association” and the success of “Every Time You Go Away” his status as a world star was confirmed. In 1987, Paul recorded his third album “Between Two Fires” in Milan where he met the Italian singer Zucchero. They became good friend and were later to collaborate very successfully. One of the highlights of the 1989 “Nelson Mandela Tribute Concert” was Paul’s performance of the Crowded House song “Don’t Dream It’s Over” which he later recorded for his best of album. There followed a period of time out to be with his growing family followed by time spent in America where he was to record in Los Angeles and New York the material for his fourth album “Other Voices”. In 1991, Paul recorded a duet with his friend Zuchero on the soon to be worldwide popular “ Sensa Una Donna” which along with the fore mentioned “Don’t Dream It’s Over” were featured on his best of album “From Time To Time”. During 1996 Paul prepared new material with long time collaborator, singer / songwriter Drew Barfield, he set about assembling a collection of songs which became the self-titled album “Paul Young”. This was full of introspective, storyline songs inspired by Paul’s trips to the Southwest of America. The “Paul Young” album was released on the East West label in May of 97’.
In 2006, with the help of producer Dieter Falk and uber- arrangers Steve Sidwell and Simon Clark, Paul released a Swing album for the German, Austrian and Swiss markets entitled “Rock Swings – On The Wild Side Of Swing”. Paul continues to write, record and play live. He is breaking new ground each year. In 2009 he toured Israel, New Zealand and Croatia for the first time, amongst the many other countries he regularly visits. These dates were in support of the “No Parlez 25th Anniversary Edition” re-release of his first solo album. 2012 saw Paul release his first published Cookbook, featuring his favourite recipes gathered from the many places his career has taken him to. The latter part of 2014 found Paul in discussions with Producer Arthur Baker, which led to the idea of making an album of their favourite & neglected Soul tunes. In the early part of 2015, Arthur brought on to the project as co-producer James Hallawell, and work on the record continued throughout the year subject to Paul’s live diary. Towards the end of 2015, Paul was contacted by Gary Barlow (Take That) and asked to consider recording a song for a soundtrack that Gary was producing for a movie based around the story of Eddie The Eagle (which was released in March 2016) The song in question “People Like Us” was a perfect fit for Paul. 2016, saw Paul Young release his brand new album “Good Thing”. Hayseed Dixie began in the summer of 2000 in the fertile valley of Deer Lick Holler, deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee USA. In this area which was completely isolated from outside cultural and musical influence, the boys grew up playing the traditional music of their forefathers on banjo, fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and acoustic bass. All of this changed abruptly one afternoon when a stranger crashed his car into a stately old oak tree on a particularly dangerous curve, which the locals refer to as the “Devil’s Elbow.” Sadly, the stranger expired, but his legacy lives on! As the boys searched through the wreckage looking for identification, they discovered several vinyl AC/DC albums. After playing these back on an old Edison 78rpm Victrola, everyone agreed that the songs were right fine country music . . . and that the Lost Highway of Brother Hank Williams and this Highway To Hell of AC/DC were indeed the exact same damn road! Since the worldwide release of the first Hayseed Dixie album, entitled “A Hillbilly Tribute To AC/DC” on over 15 years ago on April 17, 2001, there have been many converts and disciples to the holy and inspired Rockgrass cause; however, Hayseed Dixie are the original creators of this noble genre. Accept no substitutes or imitations. Most recently, Hayseed Dixie are exploring the inspired catalogue of the stadium rock of the 1970’s and 1980’s. This interest began during a 2014 Spring tour of Germany, in which the band heard the song “Eye of the Tiger” 6 different times on 6 different German radio stations in a single day while driving between Dortmund and Frankfurt. “As the seed is planted, so the tree shall grow” - this very quote appears on the inner sleeve of the 1980 album “Escape” by Journey. How very true indeed. To be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets to see HAYSEED DIXIE simply answer this question: “What was the name of the first worldwide album?” Send answer to: insidebolsover@outlook.com with full name, address & contact details.
