OT MANY STALLIONS inspire so much devotion in their owners that they build a farm around them, but that’s exactly what the late Geoff Turnbull did for Mondialiste, his Group 1-winning son of Galileo. Standing a stallion in the north-east of England, away from the centres of the bloodstock world, is not an easy task but Turnbull was a determined man, loyal to the land that shaped him and his stallion stands at the purpose-built Elwick Stud, near Hartlepool. To use that mis-quoted line from Field Of Dreams “if you build it they will come” and Mondialiste is proof – 52 mares visited the Grade 1 Arlington Million and Woodbine Mile winner in 2018, rising to 60 the following year. His race record and physical resemblance to his pre-potent sire account for part of his appeal, as does his family which is one of the most prolific of those nurtured by the Wertheimer brothers. Mondialiste is a half-brother to Group 2 Prix Sandringham winner and Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches second Impressionante, a daughter of Danehill. She is the dam of Group 1 Prix du Jockey-Club winner Intello, also by Galileo, and a successful young stallion in England and France. Mondialiste also counts the Group 3 winner Only Answer by Green Desert as a half-sister and the pair are out of the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest
and Prix de la Foret winner Occupandiste. She is a half-sister to Only Green, a Listed-winning daughter of Green Desert, who is also the dam of Group 2 Prix d’Harcourt winner and Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois second Shaman (Shamardal). The second dam Only Seule is a Lyphard half-sister to the July Cup (G1) winner Elnadim and to the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Mehthaaf, who is the grand-dam of Mujarah, dam of the Group 1-winning miler Ribchester. His third dam is Group 2 winner Elle Seule. She is a half-sister to the champion and sire Timber Country, the Grade 1 winner Northern Aspen, Fort Wood, a Grade 1 winner, champion sire and broodmare sire in South Africa, the Grade 2 winner Colorado Dancer, who produced champion Dubai Millennium and appears in so many top pedigrees through his son Dubawi. Her unraced Sadler’s Wells half-sister Dance Of Leaves is the dam of Queen Anne Stakes (G1) winner and sire Charnwood Forest and Medaaly, winner of the Racing Post Trophy (G1) and also a sire. Mondialiste’s fourth dam is the blue hen Fall Aspen. Five foals from the first crop of Mondialiste were offered for an average of €40,590 or 31,070gns, six-time his covering fee of £6,000. Two colts were offered at the Goffs November Foal Sale with Mags
