They offer secure and proven solutions for the implementation and operation of business critical IT systems. “Aspectra was a typical internet start-up in 2000”, says Kaspar Geiser, Managing Director and Interxion Switzerland’s first customer at the time. In 2009, Aspectra is an independent company that is continuing to grow and develop in today’s challenging market. “Aspectra is not an experimental company. We began with a sound and solid strategy and portfolio and that hasn’t changed. Our mission is and was providing high quality application services” explains Kaspar.

“Interxion’s high quality of service has met our developing needs over the years. Significantly, they take care to ensure consistency in the technical personnel assigned to fulfil Aspectra’s needs.” “A car is a car. It takes you from A to B. A server is a server. It is designed to provide a specific service. A firewall is a firewall. It is designed to block unauthorised access. It is possible to find IT products and services that provide for all your needs together. However, Aspectra believes that each application should be dedicated in its use.” Kaspar explains. All Aspectra employees are highly experienced in the area of dedicated hosting and application management.

5 Swiss Application Outsourcing Provider at the Interxion Market Place “We believe in sound and solid technology and uncomplicated straightforward relationships of mutual trust. One of our most important and long standing relationships is with Interxion Switzerland. Interxion takes care of our physical security”. In fact Aspectra was Interxion Switzerland’s first customer. Their relationship began in 2000, when both businesses recognised the mutual benefit of the data market place Interxion is offering.

“Aspectra was Interxion Switzerland’s first customer” In 2000, as one of the founding staff members, Kaspar Geiser began working for Aspectra as a software engineer. He graduated from the Technikum Winterthur as an Electrical Engineer HTL. Beginning in 2000, he has steadily acquired further responsibilities and has built up his stake in the business. “My interest in software and the IT industry was sparked by the development of the Internet in the mid 1990’s and I still need to ‘get technical’ as often as possible”, says Kaspar.

invests 48 million CHF in expanding its data centre in Glattbrugg It is currently extremely hectic in and around the Interxion building in Glattbrugg, near Zurich Airport. Dozens of workmen are busy building Zurich 1.3, our new data centre space. Roger Lüssi, Operations Manager Interxion (Switzerland) AG says: “The additional square metres are important for supporting the growth of Interxion. Furthermore, we are also investing heavily in the company and in our business processes so that we can meet the increasing demands of our customers.” The new data centre space, which will be launched in phases from January 2010, is being constructed according to Interxion’s unique modular build-out principle. The main benefit is that the additional 2600 m2 will have an improved power usage efficiency equipped as standard with advanced power distribution, cooling, alarm and security systems. 10 Tips & Tricks > QUESTION How to prevent loss of cooling capacity in a data room? > ANSWER By using blanking panels Data rooms typically have about three times more cooling capacity available than is necessary. However, there are still many hot spots. This is caused by cool air not reaching the equipment but instead being vented through cable openings, openings in and under the cabinets or incorrectly placed perforated floor tiles. This in turn leads to increased power consumption, equipment wearing out more quickly and decreased hardware reliability.

Cool air is being vented through openings (left). By sealing off the open spaces with blanking panels, air circulation is eliminated (right). Data cabinets not only provide mechanical support for the equipment, but also prevent hot air from returning to the air intake. By sealing off the open spaces between computer equipment with blanking panels, this air recirculation (see drawing above) can be eliminated. One can further improve air distribution by sealing off cable openings and optimizing the number and location of perforated floor tiles.
