Hospitality Beach Bash 2013 was a big success By Starlet Anne Contributing Writer
T
he 13th Annual Hospitality Beach Bash was like none in the past several years; the attendees were all InTheBiz®. Over the last several years, this bash was not what the founders had planned. The event had turned into just a party with no real purpose. Not this year! Mike Atwell, Food and Beverage Manager of PostCard Inn, wanted to change the perception of this 13-year-old
6 • ITB • June 2013
event and turn it back into what the original hosts intended. He hosted this great event with the help of his wonderful staff. Atwell made sure of that. Bar owners, bartenders, cocktail servers and others InTheBiz® were among their peers from all over South Florida to enjoy the bash. It was truly what it was originally designed to be- a way for the industry personnel to unwind after a tough season of dealing with tourists, an opportunity to test some new types of liquor brands being offered to the industry by major and local
companies and to enjoy some fun and games. Mike Atwell wanted to make sure that this is what they would get. The 2nd Annual Bar Lympics was a huge success with events, such as volleyball, corn hole, beer pong and ladder ball. The teams from Tijuana Taxi and Paddy’s were the winners of the volleyball competition. The Beer Pong tournament was so much fun, thanks to the group from Gold Coast Distributing for donating Beck’s Sapphire beer for this competition. As usual the bikini contest was one of the best parts of the two-day event. Girls from all over South Florida were showing off their awesome bodies for the chance to win their share of $1,500 in cash prizes. In the end, Amelia from Lulu’s Bait Shack, Beach Place was the winner of the grand prize. Rob Husted and his team from FlairBar. com hosted the annual flair competition. Flair Bartenders come from all over the country to enter this much anticipated competition and win cash! With bottles flying through the air, they competed in several events from carefully and quickly twirling and throwing bottles to creating tasty drinks with the liquor and mixers provided. This year, Big 105.9 was a huge part of the event. The Emcee’s and DJ’s did a great job of keeping everyone entertained and dancing throughout the days and nights. www.InTheBizMagazine.com

South Florida Icon Celebrates in Style By Josie Vargas Contributing Writer
F
or over 20 years the name B. Love has been synonymous with the biggest and wildest parties in South Florida’s History. Brian Saraceno aka B. Love has owned or operated some of the biggest & best nightspots since the early nineties. The Original Club Boca, Club Asia, B Bar, Aqua Lounge, then off to Atlanta to be the GM of The World Famous Gold Club (which became the #1 adult entertainment club in the country) Then to South Carolina to open the 30,000 sq. ft. Emerald City and back to open Emerald City in Ft. Lauderdale all the while, unbeknownst to most people B. Love’s voice was a South Florida Staple. There’s no doubt that you’ve heard it before. His voice has been on every radio station in South Florida screaming car commercials for Kendal Toyota Lincoln Mercury. B. Love was the national voice for Mitsubishi as well as legendary spots for Purgatory, (where a huge number of Top DJ’s got their start) Cool World (where he was instrumental in bringing Hip Hop to the fore front in South Florida) B. Love, along with his marketing company, Dreamflex Marketing, revived over 50 businesses around the country but he still calls South Florida his home. He has produced over 300 concerts over

the years with names including James Brown, Ray Charles, Run DMC, Kool & the Gang, Prodigy, Marilyn Manson and so many more. Seems like every time someone says he’s getting to old for the business he re-invents himself. In 2010 the partners at Capone’s Nightclub had given up on the project and asked him to see if it still had a chance to be what it once was. After ripping down the “For Sale” signs, he interjected a relentless marketing plan fueled by an amazing staff and brought Capone’s not only back to life but made it a force to be reckoned with in South Florida. In 2011 he was inducted into the InTheBiz® Hall of Fame and was once more the driving force behind one of South Florida’s hottest clubs. B. Love continues to surprise and delight us with his over the top promotions. He hosts “The Chocolate Party”, “Little Black Dress”, and most recently “Turning Japanese”. If you haven’t partied with Brian here’s your chance. Friday Night June 14th beginning at 9pm the craziest party of the year is on! This year “B. Love’s Birthday Bash” is called ‘The Ice Party” A Diamonds and Ice Extravaganza which you don’t want to miss. Come out to Capone’s and say Happy Birthday to a true South Florida Icon. B. Love always has a big smile for you whenever you go to Capone’s and they love to celebrate your graduations, engagements and birthdays, hence the
name B. Love. We all hope he stays in the businesses for a long time. He’s certainly one of a kind! Capone’s is located at 310 SW 2nd Street, Downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Hip-hop Super Producer, Scott Storch, Discusses New Projects, New Management, and the New Love of His Life
cott Storch
by Kelly Voice Contributing Writer
T
he waiting game is over. Scott Storch’s two year hiatus from mainstream music has come to an end, and his fans couldn’t be happier. Scott’s focus over the past two years has been dedicated to getting healthy, and reconnecting with the industry he once reigned over. Scott Storch, the hip-hop super producer is back, and better than ever, discussing his new projects, new management, and reconnecting with the love of his life, music. Scott Storch is best known for producing the industry’s most influential beats, and collaborating with artists such as; Dr. Dre, Fat Joe, Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, 50 Cent, Eve, Lil Kim, and many more. Storch has an undeniable reputation as a hit-maker within the industry, and his new focus in life has this producer back on top, and in-demand. “It feels good to be back in the studio, I feel at home here.” says Scott Storch about his long hours in the studio. “I am working on some new exciting projects, some I can talk about, and others I can’t mention just yet.” Storch did mentioned he is currently working with some of Hip-Hop’s biggest acts, including 2 Chainz and French Montana. Storch said he will be announcing his other current collaborations in the very near future. What sparked Storchs’ new-found way of life and focus? He says his new management has had a positive effect on the producers work ethic, as well as his overall drive for creativity. “My new management, Storch Music Group, has been absolutely effortless. My team always has my best interests in mind, and they are extremely honest with me. My past management would tell me what I wanted to hear, whereas SMG [Storch Music Group], gives it to me straight, and keeps me grounded.” Storch goes on to menwww.InTheBizMagazine.com
tion that throughout this process, he has fallen back in love with music, and feels the passion and intense drive to get back into the industry. “Once I fell back in love with music, the [music] industry started approaching me again, and now we’re working on a lot of exciting projects again.” Scott’s management said he’s in the studio nonstop, with a lot of popular artists. Fans can expect to hear Scott Storch’s new music and collaborations very soon. Welcome to the new STORCH MUSIC GROUP About Scott Storch Before Storch Music Group, the popular producer began his career in the 1990’s as an 18 year old keyboardist for the Roots. The young Storch quickly rose to the top, as one of hip-hops best keyboardists. After being discovered, and managed by Derek “LA” Jackson, Storch’s career
skyrocketed. Connecting with Dr. Dre in 1999 to lay down the keyboard riff that anchored Dre’s comeback single “Still D.R.E.” featuring Snoop Dogg, put Storch’s career on a fast track. He coproduced the single “X” by Xzibit and 3 Snoop Dogg tracks to cement his reputation as a talented young producer. Dr. Dre has said “Scott is the only producer to co-write with me that went on, without me, to become great.” Storch believes there are four elements necessary to create a hit; realness, simplicity, catchy hook and bounce. Scott Storch has produced and co-written hundreds of hits over the span of his career, and the number continues to grow. You can keep up with Scott Storch at www.StorchMusic.com. Chris Bosh the Key to the Miami Heat’s Deep Playoff Run By Allen Levin Sports Editor
T
he Miami Heat are in the midst of their third consecutive deep postseason run. As of the writing of this article, they are up 1-0 against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals. The Heat need seven more wins to hoist their second consecutive championship trophy, but this year’s run is certainly different than last year’s title season. This year, the Miami Heat have a healthy Chris Bosh. As you likely recall, Bosh went down in Game 1 of the second round of the playoffs last year against this same Indiana team. He missed nine crucial games, and the Heat went just 5-4 in his absence. The Heat needed heroic performances from LeBron James and Dwyane Wade just to survive. It became obvious what head coach Erik Spoelstra had been saying for so long: Bosh is the Heat’s most important player. That statement will continue to prove true for as long as the Heat’s run continues
this year. That is because of the three other remaining teams, all of them have traditional, dominant big men. Having a big-time paint presence on the defensive side of the ball has been somewhat of an Achilles heel for Miami since the Big Three era started. However, that is where Bosh will be the key. Bosh is not your traditional big man, but he has the advantage of being so versatile and athletic that he limits the effectiveness of opposing, traditional big men. Bosh has excellent range for a near 7-footer, being able to knock down the three-point ball on occasion and is absolutely lethal from just inside the arc. He has great finesse, is quick on his feet and also boasts some solid post moves. More importantly, he can draw big defenders like Roy Hibbert, Marc Gasol or Tim Duncan away from the basket to allow driving lanes to open up for James and Wade. That will become crucial as the Heat continue their series against Indiana or play the Grizzlies/Spurs if they advance to the NBA Finals. So, as long as Bosh stays healthy, look for
the forgotten member of the Big Three to be the key to another Larry O’Brien trophy for the Heat.
Florida Panthers Look to Rebound After Disappointing Season
T
here was a lot of excitement going into the 2013 NHL season for Florida Panthers fans. The team had just come off its first playoff appearance and division title in over a decade. They had a solid set of players in place and seemed poised for another run at the division crown. However, a rash of devastating injuries and underperformances from key players led to a last-place finish in this lockout-shortened season. The Panthers finished with a league worst 36 points and a 15-27-6 record. Despite the disappointment, there were some positive signs for the future for this young Panthers team. The promising play of goalie Jacob Markwww.InTheBizMagazine.com
strom and Calder-caliber performance of Jonathan Huberdeauprovided a silver lining to the rain cloud of a year. Markstrom took over for veteran Jose Theodore midseason and looked encouraging, posting 3.22 Goals Against Average and an 8-14 record. The rookie Huberdeau was second on the team in points with 31, to go along with 14 goals. In addition, the Panthers have the second overall pick in the 2013 NHL draft, meaning they have an opportunity to land some prized talent. There has been talk that the Panthers are coveting superstar centerman Nathan Mackinnon, who has surefire potential to be a legitimate first line centerman. Mackinnon’s combination of elite skating ability, pure speed
and a scoring touch gives Florida the offensive punch they need and star on a roster that needs one. With an up and coming goalie in place, promising prospect in Markstrom, a solid veteran in Tomas Fleischmann and the No. 2 overall draft pick, the future is looking bright for the Florida Panthers.
