eed a laugh? Try a comedy like “21 and Over,” “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” or “InAPPropriate Comedy.” Rather be scared? Choose “The Last Exorcism, Part II” or “The Call.” Those who prefer thrillers or suspense will like “Phantom,” “Stoker,” “Dead Man Down,” “Olympus Has Fallen,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” or “The Host.” Even Tyler Perry gets dramatic in his film “Temptation.” Need a film for the family? Try “Oz the Great and Powerful.” From the makers of “Hangover” comes another night of debauchery in the comedy “21 and Over,” but this party is for a 21-year-old and it is his birthday. When everything goes out of control for Jeff Chang, will his friends help him stay alive through the night or will they be his undoing? For those who can’t get enough exorcist movies, here is one more – “The Last Exorcism, Part II.” This sequel follows Nell’s (Ashley Bell) journey as she suffers amnesia and tries to start a new life. But she cannot escape from the evil. Seeking a suspense thriller? Try “Phantom.” Ed Harris plays Demi, a Cold War Soviet missile submarine captain who is sent on what some feel is a doomed mission. But, can he prove everyone wrong? He has to fight the machinations of Bruni (played by David Duchovny), who is trying to get his hands on the sub’s nuke. A strange dynamic arises between an odd young girl, her emotional mother and a charming uncle who comes to live with them after his brother is killed in a car crash in “Stoker.” The tension couldn’t be higher as secrets are revealed and infatuation blooms. Look for Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman. March 8 Niels Arden Oplev (director of original “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) is using Noomi Rapace again in “Dead Man Down.” This time, her character falls for a mob hit man, played by Colin Farrell, and the duo work together to seek revenge. “Oz The Great and Powerful” centers around an ordinary circus magician, played by James Franco, who makes his way via tornado to Oz and becomes worshipped as a sorcerer (Oz). Can he live up

to the legend they think he is? Look for Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams. March 15 911 operator Halle Berry, troubled from a past mistake, tries to make things right when she gets a second chance to save a life in “The Call.” Look for Abigail Breslin as the girl who has been kidnapped by a man who could be a serial killer. The comedy “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” pokes fun at the world of magic comparing old school tactics with more obscure new acts. It stars Steve Carrell, Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey. March 22 Adrien Brody, Rob Schneider, Ari Shaffir, Lindsay Lohan and Michelle Rodriguez deliver raunch, sleaze, perversity and more in “InAPPropriate Comedy.” Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) gets a second chance to redeem himself when he finds himself trapped in the White House under siege by terrorists in “Olympus Has Fallen.” He seems to be the only hope to retaking the building, ensuring the president is out of danger and stopping whatever the villains have planned for the country.

March 29 In the sequel “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” the G.I. Joes have a lot to contend with. Not only is their target No. 1 back for more, but their own government may be a threat as well. Look for Bruce Willis, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki and others. Stephenie Meyer (“Twilight” saga) may have a hit on her hands with “The Host.” Seeming a bit like invasion of the body snatchers, this film focuses on humans being taken over by an unseen force and a romance between two humans struggling for survival. Look for Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and William Hurt. “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” asks “Is the grass really greener on the other side?” Perhaps one of Tyler Perry’s most provacative films, this motion picture follows a marriage counselor, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, who seeks greener pastures than her own significant other. But is her new beau the prince charming she hopes for or a snake in the grass?

World Wide Beer Distributor Announces New Product Unveiling at

Lucky’s Tavern By Staff reports Special to the News

A

s of the writing of this article we are unable to fully disclose the name of the distributor due to distribution and commercial rights which are currently still being negotiated. Fort Lauderdale, FL February 25th, 2013 – A worldwide brewery announced they will unveil two new products at Lucky’s Tavern, a local Downtown Fort Lauderdale pub located in the historical Himmarshee District at 214 SW 2nd Street. These are the most exciting products to come along in the history of our corporation, said a spokesman for the company. Why all the secrecy? We asked a company spokesman to explain; “At the present time we are still negotiating with our distributors. But most importantly we are being very selective about who we contract to represent our brand. Currently we are in talks with many different celebrities ranging from musicians, actors and sports heroes”. The first product to be presented will be the 0.354 liter bottle which will be available for the company’s three major brands. We asked Jon Slack, one of the owners of Lucky’s Tavern if they would be increasing prices for this new bottle and he stated, “We intend to keep the same price point for a few weeks so our customers can take advantage of this great offer. Our goal is always to offer a savings to our customers”. The second product to be presented was invented due to many years of protest from groups such as Discrimination Against Left Handers (DALH). This is a very exciting product and long overdue, said a

spokesman for the company. We will be displaying our new bottle solely designed for the left handed drinker. A company spokesman stated, “The new bottle has been in the design phase for many years and was supposed to be unveiled in 2009 but, design flaws caused delays and we had to seek the help of NASA engineers to perfect the new bottle design”. “We are very excited to be a part of this,to be the first in town to offer such a new and innovative product will keep Lucky’s Tavern at the forefront and a leader in cutting edge bar beverage options.” says Slack. Jon Slack also states, “We have even redesigned the way we stock our coolers so the new bottle is always at our bartenders left”. Information about the distributor will come out in a press release scheduled for Wednesday, March 27th, the same day a national advertising campaign will be launched to show the world these great new products. To be a part of this exciting unveil, stop by Lucky’s Tavern on Monday, April 1st 2013. The unveil will begin at 9pm. Monday is also Reggae night at Lucky’s Tavern so a live band will be present as part of the product launch entertainment. “Please get there early, once the nationwide commercials begin and people become aware we expect a very large crowd” says Slack. www.InTheBizMagazine.com

Brian Wilk

Entertainer at Sopranos Dueling Piano Bar By Starlet Anne Contributing Writer

B

rian Wilk has the gift of making people have fun through music. Brian has been entertaining customers at Sopranos Dueling Piano Bar since August 2012 and making their night extra special with the dueling piano show. “I enjoy entertaining people and having fun with the crowd,” said Brian. Brian began playing the piano at just 2 years old and starting performing in dueling piano shows after college. In addition to playing the piano, he also plays multiple instruments, including the drums and trumpet. During the dueling piano show at Sopranos Dueling Piano Bar, Brian takes the extra time to get the crowd involved, brings people on stage, toasts the crowd and takes special requests. Whether it’s a bachelorette party or birthday, Brian will impress the customers with his musical talent and make the night truly memorable. “We’re the leaders of this big party, and I like when I’m able to make sure people have a good time,” he said. Some of the tricks of his trade are always having positive energy, a smile on his face and keeping the crowd entertained. “I love what I’m doing so that’s contagious. If I’m having a good time, they’re having a good time,” said Brian. “The whole show is very interactive, and the more the crowd gets into it the more we get into it. The energy we have on stage rubs off on the crowd.” He invites everyone to come out for a night of fun and entertainment. “I feed off the crowd’s energy. I make sure that people leave here with something they can tell their friends on Monday,” said Brian. Stop in Sopranos Dueling Piano Bar any night of the week and see Brian and his friends! In March, there are shows seven days a week starting at 9 pm. You can also follow him on Twitter at 2hands88keys.

Hurricanes, Gators Basketball Success This Season is Rare

By Allen Levin Sports Editor

U

InTheBiz® at tarpon bend

sually when the subject of the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators sports comes up, one would automatically assume football. The Hurricanes and Gators are two of the most storied programs in college football history, with multiple national titles between the schools. But, basketball…? Sure, the Gators have two national championships under their belt, but they haven’t been truly dominant since 2007. And the Hurricanes have never been dominant when it comes to hoops. However, for the first time in history, both

Miami and Florida are ranked in the top 5 in the nation. As of the writing of this article, the Hurricanes sit at No. 2, while the Gators hold down the No. 5 spot. This is first time in school history that Miami has been in the top 5 in basketball, and before this season, the Canes had never even sniffed the top 10. Well, the Hurricanes have become college basketball’s Cinderella story this year, as they have absolutely played fearless basketball up to this point. They are currently the only ACC team with an unblemished league record at a perfect 13-0, and are 22-3 overall. The Canes also happen to be riding a 14game win streak currently, which includes wins over ranked Duke and N.C. State. Florida, on the other hand, has been supe-

rior in the SEC, boasting an 11-2 league record as of the writing of this article, and a 21-4 overall record. The Gators have put together a string of wins against conference foes, beating ranked Missouri, Mississippi and defending champion Kentucky in the last month. Both teams have used strong shooting and excellent play from their veteran players this season to be successful. With Selection Sunday right around the corner, both the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes have a chance to finish the season in the top 5 and receive a high seed entering the tournament. With the way both teams are playing, there is a great shot that both teams from the Sunshine State will be playing deep into March Madness.

Miami Heat on Fire Heading Into Home Stretch of Season

emember all the concerns about the Miami Heat’s road woes, lack of rebounding and overall inconsistent play?

www.InTheBizMagazine.com

Well, those seem to be a distant memory these days. The Miami Heat have put any questions to rest on whether or not they’re ready to defend their title, having won nine consecutive games and four straight on the road (as of the writing of this article) as they are the hottest team in the league entering the second half of the season. As the All-Star break approached, Miami had struggled on the road for nearly the entire year. However, after a blowout loss to the Indiana Pacers on the road on Feb. 1, the Heat found their stride by routing the defending Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder right before the midseason break. That victory opened up Pandora’s Box for the Heat, as they continued their recent road success with wins over Atlanta and Chicago to amount to a four-game streak away from home (as of the writing of this article). In addition, the Heat’s overall win streak of nine includes noteworthy wins over the Rockets, Clippers, Lakers, Blazers, Thunder,

Hawks and Bulls. Miami is no longer playing inconsistent, and looks fiercely dominant in their ninegame streak. They are forcing turnovers, playing suffocating defense and controlling the tempo of the game. It also doesn’t hurt that their MVP player, LeBron James, is playing out of this world. James made NBA history when he scored 30 points on 60% shooting in six straight games earlier in February. As a whole, James is shooting an outstanding 56.7 percent from the field this season, whilethe King has shot over 70% in his last nine contests. As for rebounding, Miami’s signing of free agent Chris Andersen has been a huge boost to the big man department, as he has helped with rebounding, blocks and energy off the bench. If the Heat continue to play the way they have recently, they will a very good opportunity of defending their championship come June. March 2013 • ITB • 37
