outh Florida hosts some of the best parties in the country. The biggest party night of the year, next to New Years Eve is Thanksgiving Eve. The party season in Fort Lauderdale will kick off with the 2nd Annual “Gobble Wobble” Pub Crawl in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Back by popular demand, the event will be held on Saturday, November 9th. The cost for this event is $25 in advance and $35 at the door. Registration starts at American Social at 4 p.m. and the party continues down Las Olas ending up at America’s Backyard from 10 p.m. until they close the doors. Lulu’s Bait Shack, Fort Lauderdale Beach Place offers just that. They will deep fry a turkey for you and add in all the fixings’. All you have to do is order it and go there and pick it up. Who can resist a beautiful deep fried turkey? The biggest party night of the year is Wednesday November 27th. Cowboys Saloon is another great spot to enjoy the festive season with a Thanksgiving Eve party. There will be many specials including Ladies Night, $20 all you can drink, 3-hour premium open bar from 8 pm to 11 pm, and from 12 am to close endless draft beer for $20. Kimberly Reiss, Marketing Director for Cowboys Saloon, says it is a busy time for those who work InThe Biz®. “It marks the beginning of season which is our busiest time of year. The only drawback is, we have to work the holiday season,” said Reiss. Starting on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th, local restaurants, bars and nightclubs will be serving up plenty of tasty food, overflowing drink specials and themed events. Lucky’s Tavern in downtown Fort Lauderdale will be offering $12 Domestic and

$15 Import Buckets during the game on Thanksgiving Night. DJ Stevie-E will follow the game, with $4 Fireball and $5 Jaeger shot specials. “The crowd goes out a little later on Thanksgiving night. After a nap and a few turkey sandwiches the party will resume as most everyone is off on Friday” said Slack, Slackers Bar & Grill will also be offering $12 Domestic and $15 Import Buckets all day on Thanksgiving until the end of the Steelers game. They will also have a complete Thanksgiving dinner special for those who either don’t have a family in town or didn’t get enough turkey the first go around! It will be followed with a late night Happy Hour starting at 11 pm. “Thanksgiving is a busy time of year for us at Slackers. We get a lot of hotel visitors here on cruises that simply have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving. We try our best to make them feel at home by offering a great homemade Thanksgiving dinner. he month of October was a busy month with breast cancer awareness fundraisers, Oktoberfest and Halloween parties, but don’t fret! November has just as many events to look forward to! Concerts, shows, blockbusters, culinary and wine festivals, beer and food truck nights and charity events will fill up your calendars this month, culminating with the biggest holiday party weekend of Thanksgiving. Kicking off in November is ‘First Friday Jazz Jams’, which will be held at 7:30 pm at Artserve, located at 1350 East Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. The monthly jam session featuring student jazz musicians backed by a professional jazz trio runs from November through June 1st. Audience members of all ages are welcome. Where do you work? I am a bartender at Goldfinger Gentlemen’s Club Where are you from originally? I was born in the Fiji Islands, however I grew up in San Francisco California What do you like best about bartending? The best part of being a bartender is that I get to meet new and interesting people from all over the world. Why did you choose to become a bartender/server? I chose to bartend first because of the people I meet and work with and second I get to throw a party every time I am behind the bar. What is the most ordered drink? The most ordered drink at my bar would be Vodka, Cranberry with lemon. What is your favorite drink to make? No one particular drink comes to mind, but my regulars like when I create new drinks for them to try. What can you share with new bartenders/server to make the most in tips? My best tip would be, never judge a book by it’s cover, treat every customer the same and smile a lot. What is the worst pick up line you ever heard? Drink Recipes of the month Yamazaki Autumn Delight

2 oz Yamazaki 12-Year-Old Japanese Single Malt Whisky 6 oz Apple cider Ground cinnamon Add the whisky and cider to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Dust with ground cinnamon and garnish with 2 apple slices and a cinnamon stick.

The Clockwork Oranje

1 ½ oz Ketel One Oranje vodka ¾ oz fresh lemon juice 1 oz white crème de cacao Add all ingredients to a collins glass. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Use a swizzle stick to stir and blend ingredients. Garnish with an orange wedge.

Autumn Ale

6 parts of silver tequila 2 parts of cranberry juice 1 part of triple sec. Mix well and serve with lots of ice cubes.

Pumpkin Spice

2 oz. SKYY Infusions ginger 0.5 oz. lime juice 1 oz. pumpkin puree splash of honey water* garnish: slice of fresh ginger Combine all ingredients except ginger slice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. rian Cook, A.K.A. Boogie Waters was born and raised in Pompano Beach, Florida. A product of the 70’s, Boogie Waters influences came from family gatherings where he had to be the DJ for the night. While selecting tunes ranging from Gladys Knight, to Herbie Hancock, he didn’t realize it at the time, but he was training his ear, as well as his mind for what was to come later. All through school from the age of 6 till high school he had little training in guitar, percussion, chorus, and drama. Those would be the building blocks for the first time he would ever touch a drum machine. Also while in high school, he started to frequent with a local DJ crew called “Get Some Express”, later to become “The Get Some Crew”, where he would get his first taste in rocking house parties, local neighborhood functions, and his first single from The Get Some Crew called “One Leg Up” in 1991. While all this was going on, He also took part in a boy band by the name of Act 3, but it wasn’t until he left school in 1990 and all the other things behind to pursue a career as a night club DJ. He started at a local spot in Ft. Lauderdale by the name of Rogers Restaurant & Lounge, and worked his way outward. By doing this, he received an invite to play for a month in Grand Cayman. Experienced in the art of D.J.ing, he decided to return to making music. So he joined a 4 man hip hop group in 92 called DILLIGAF where he produced, as well as rapped, on most of the songs. While doing this, he also D.J.’d for a teen night club called Spectrum where his group DILLIGAF would open for groups such as Cypress Hill, Leaders of the New School, Fuschnikins, and Black Sheep. Between the time periods of 93 to 98, he left DILLIGAF, and joined forces with some West Palm Beach natives and formed T.H.E.M., later to be known as THEM2. They also formed a group with old school bass artist, and longtime friend, 40 • ITB • October 2013

Cooley C, by the name of Gods of Quad, completing an album on both groups. With R&B, Bass music, and Hip Hop under his belt, he tackled yet a bigger project between 1999, and 2000, joining a well known local jam band called Hashbrowns. From 2000 till 03, this 4 man band put together an album, and traveled the East Coast from St. Thomas, V.I. to Toronto, Canada. Of course he played the role of the DJ/vocalist for the group. But that wasn’t enough. Boogie Waters then decided that he wanted to have more control over production, so in 04, he moved up to West Palm for a second time to complete a second THEM album with longtime friend, and bass pioneer Jock D. While in the area he also recorded a solo LP. The solo album ranged from hip hop, reggae, funk, crunk, and jazz. Never forgetting his roots as a DJ, he would pop up from time to time working a night at a club, or dropping a set for an event, and could rock the crowd at the drop of a dime. He moved back to Pompano in 2008 and connected with new artists, to start a new project, and put out an EP under Gullah Music Group called The Boogie Waters EP. In 2012, he’s signed to Rap Legends, Sony Red Music, and he’s about to let the world know what’s on his mind, both musically, and vocally. In other words, if Q-Tip would not have used the title for his second solo album, Boogie Waters would be known as The Renaissance Man. Florida College Football Bringing Back the Glory Day

lorida State is ranked No. 3 and Miami is ranked No. 7 in the nation (as of the writing of this article). Yes, all is right in the world of college football. It’s been quite some time since the powerhouse Seminoles and Hurricanes have both been ranked in the top 10. FSU and Miami went through a down period for a better part of the last decade, but now are back with a vengeance. Now, two of the most storied college football programs are ranked in the top 10 for

the first time since 2004, the first year Miami joined the ACC. It’s be a long nine years, but both programs have formidable rosters that are capable of either making the National Championship or a significant BCS bowl. Of the two, it’s clear that FSU is the top dog. They are arguably the best team in the country, led by a ferocious defense and their star quarterback Jameis Winston. The Noles are off to a perfect 7-0 start, and have had resounding victories against the likes of ranked Clemson and Maryland. The Hurricanes have had a lighter schedule and haven’t breezed through it, but look strong in their first 7-0 start in over a decade.

They have solid weapons on offense, highlighted by runningback Duke Johnson. Now, the two in-state foes will clash in an epic showdown in Tallahassee on November 2nd. Not only will it determine bragging rights and state supremacy, but national championship hopes are on the line for both squads. Whatever the result is, there is no doubt that it’s good for college football and good for fans to see these two programs back on top. And with both squads being young and having excellent incoming recruits, everyone will have to get used to seeing FSU and Miami back in the national spotlight.

Miami Heat Season Finally Underway In Year Full of Uncertainty

he two-time defending champion Miami Heat are finally back to the hardwood looking to make history. It was a long offseason for the back-to-back champs, who kept their roster mostly intact, while adding free agent projects Greg Oden and Michael Beasley. The Heat are seeking to become just the fourth team in NBA history to “three-peat” after beating the San Antonio Spurs in a seven-game showdown last June for the team’s second consecutive title. Miami got its year off on the right foot, defeating the Chicago Bulls, 10795, in the season opener. The offense looked in sync, exploding for 37 second-quarter points to all but put away the pesky Bulls. The shooting looked like it carried over from the playoffs, with the Heat converting on 55 percent of their shots from deep, including a perfect 4-for-4 from Shane Battier. The defense was swarming for most of the game, limiting Chicago to just 33 points in the first half. 42 • ITB • November 2013

All in all, it was a good start for the champs, who are facing a lot of uncertainty this season. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all have Early Termination Options and the opportunity to become free agents at season’s end. Miami will only have one player (Norris Cole) under contract in 2014-15. With the looming free agency of the

league’s best player, it could be hart for the Heat to stay focused. But, all signs pointed to the contrary in the season opener. If this is the last run for the “Big Three,” then the Heat will want to make a last hoorah. And things certainly got off the way you want to see for a team looking to win its third straight ring.
