CEO FOREWORD Dear Customer, Welcome to this edition of Inzozi inflight magazine. I would like to thank you all for choosing to fly RwandAir. It is always an immense pleasure to have you onboard. I wish you a very pleasant flight in the company of our qualified crew and enjoy the top class services that RwandAir has to offer. The past months have been exciting, here at RwandAir. We always had plans of expanding our network both on the African continent and around the world. We have been working very hard to turn this into reality. 2017 brought great news as the first phase finally came to fruition. In April, we celebrated the beginning of our new routes to Mumbai and Harare. The maiden flights to Mumbai and Harare took off on 4th April and 5th of April respectively. The flight to Harare is operating four times weekly and is tagged to the existing Lusaka (Zambia) route, while the flight to Mumbai operates directly, four times per week using respectively our very young fleet of Bombardier and Boeing Next Generation, which offer state of the art comfort cabin. The new route of Mumbai and Harare take our ever growing network to twenty-one (21) destinations. The new routes will help in good cooperation between Rwanda and the two countries and boost the economy and tourism opportunities for those countries.

I am pleased to announce that the second phase of our plans to spread our wings is under way. We are flying to London, effective 26th of May and later this year other routes will follow, which include Guangzhou (China), Conakry (Guinea), Bamako (Mali) and Dakar (Senegal). In addition, I am happy to share with you that we are also expecting to receive a brand new state of the art Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, which will be a great addition to our expanding fleet of eleven (11) aircraft. With brand new and spacious aircrafts, we will therefore boost our capability to successfully carry out our operations to the new and exciting destinations with great comfort and care to our very esteemed customers. I would like to thank the RwandAir staff for their hard work and professionalism in providing the best services that our customers deserve and keeping the company’s good reputation in accordance to world standards. She joins RwandAir from MTN Rwanda where she worked as the Chief Marketing Officer and brings over 10 years of commercial and marketing experience. She holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Geography and Environmental Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Information Technology, specializing in e-business.

To the Chief Executive Officer Rwandair We wish to thank, commend and express our appreciation of the very professional and efficient manner in which RwandAir handled the transport of our pet Labrador, Bruno, from Dar es Salaam to Kigali on 12 February. Your ground staff, on board staff and all those involved in this operation were so friendly and understanding and went to great length to mitigate the stress pet owners commonly go through during such a time. It was so great to see how quickly our pet was reunited with us on reaching Kigali where your staff brought Bruno directly into the passenger luggage collection area and handed him over safe and sound. I travelled from Johannesburg to Lagos via Lusaka and Kigali on the 14th of December and back on the third of January. Being a first time RwandAir traveler I was not sure what to expect. The seats were very comfortable and I was impressed by the leg room (being a tall person, leg room is always a big issue) offered by the well maintained aircrafts. The cabin crew were very friendly and assisted with most if not everything we needed on the flights. Their level of professionalism was worth admiring and I would like to commend attendants Aime and Peter for their hospitality on both my flights en route Lagos on the 14th. Travelling again on the 3rd of January, I was pleasantly surprised to see Peter on my flight as it felt good seeing a familiar friendly face again. His professionalism cemented the fact that he is indeed a gem of an employee with a friendly face willing to go the extra mile for your clients and well versed in assisting somewhat difficult passengers. My luggage arrived on time and I had no issues both on my trips to and from Lagos. The only thing that dampened my journeys were the long queues at the check in stations when connecting flights in Kigali. I was fortunate to have sat with a Rwandan lady on my first flight who told me alot about what the beautiful city of Kigali has to offer and inspired me to visit again. Keep up the good work Rwandair! Wishing you many more pleasant flights in 2017. The first one because of its « show business » side, balanced by its theaters for a more cultural aspect. I am always impressed as I always discover something new. Los Angeles is a big city. I travel there for tourism purposes. Hollywood, is for me almost a synonym of Universal Studio and of the legendary Beverly Hills. I am passionate about cinema and the music industry. What can’t you leave home without? My cell phone. What’s your top tip for fellow travellers? First and foremost I check that I have my Bible and all my payment methods. Then I can read and philosophize. From take off to my final destination I indulge in my readings. ‘ Le Livre du Bonheur’’ by Marcelle Auclair is one of my favorites. My favorite authors are, amongst others, Dale Carnegy and Léon Tolstoï. When I travel with Rwandair I always start by looking through the INZOZI magazine, then I move on to my books. What do you like about Rwandair? The welcome we get from the crew, and the comfort onboard its bigger aircrafts. I really enjoyed coming back from a holiday in Dubai with my family. This flight is almost of international standards. What is your dream destination? Sydney. I am curious to discover its beaches.

What is your favorite Destination? I currently reside in Nairobi, so my favourite destination currently served by RwandAir is Kigali! I’m looking forward to exploring as much of Rwanda as I can over the coming years, so I expect to get to know RwandAir very well.

What is your favourite Destination? London: I live in Kigali which is amazing, but London is where my son and daughter are, family and friends and those I love. So going to London is going home to all those I love. It's also a vibrant City with such culture and history, there is always something to see or do or eat!! Fantastic restaurant scene. I am so excited to be travelling Rwandaair next week from London to Kigali on one of the first flights. Such a fantastic achievement, congratulations.

What can you not leave home without? My camera and my Ipad, to photograph and post my experiences on Twitter (@SaraHradecky). I’ve also become very interested in all the beautiful birds here since I’ve arrived in East Africa, so my Birds of East Africa book comes along too. What's your top tip for fellow travellers? I like to read the airlines’ in-flight magazines from cover to cover while I’m flying. These are an excellent way to learn about the airline itself, its routes and destinations, and the tourist sites one can visit in its network. I study the route maps to discover new places I might go, and I even read all the advertising, since it’s often a guide to interesting products and services in the airline’s hub city. There’s a world of interesting information between the covers of the magazine in your hands. What do you like about Rwandair? Great customer service, friendly smiles, on time service, and its easy-to-navigate Kigali airport hub. And of course, I love the smooth comfort of RwandAir’s flights that are operated with the excellent, Canadian-made Bombardier aircraft! It feels like I’m travelling with a fellow Canadian when I board one of Rwandair’s Bombardier Q400s. What is your dream destination? I love nature travel, wildlife, birds, forests, jungles, deserts and the sea. I can’t wait to visit Rwanda’s gorillas, but I also look forward to scuba diving on the Kenya and Tanzania coasts. Let’s just say that Central and Eastern Africa as a whole is my current Dream Destination.

What can you not leave home without? I can't leave home without my mobile phone, modern technology is just amazing, my whole life is on my phone, it gives me all my flight information, I can stay in touch with work and home and catch up with all those messages and emails I've been too busy to get too! I also have a ten year life plan on my phone and on long haul flights I look at it and make sure I am prioritising all those things that are important and that I really care about and making progress towards them. So far I'mm on track!! What's your top tip for fellow travellers? Be nice to the air crew, they have a really tough job, I travel so often and see them being so accommodating and gracious, not only do they take really good care of us they keep us safe. I often take time to talk to the staff as I have so much time to kill and they all have fascinating stories to tell and it makes the time pass so much faster. What do you like about Rwandair? I am a fan, so many things, the modern aircraft that are so clean and well maintained but most of all the staff!. I was once feeling really unwell, on a flight from Dubai and an amazing attendant called Allen took care of me, she gave me a hot water bottle, blankets and moved me to a more comfortable seat with extra room. She was so kind.It was one of the best examples of customer care I have ever experienced. The staff feel empowered to make decisions to ensure you have a really pleasant journey. What is your dream destination Zanzibar, its beautiful beaches, white sand, turquoise sea, gentle people and delicious fish and sea food. Lying in a hammock under a shady tree. What not to like! Its time I went back!

Rhinos Return to Rwanda The mighty Eastern black rhino has returned to Rwanda. In a remarkable achievement for the conservation of this endangered species, 18 of the approximately 1,000 animals left in the wild have made the long journey from South Africa to Rwanda. With the reintroduction of rhinos, Rwanda has cemented its place as a leader in wildlife conservation, not just in Africa but across the globe. By David Toovey

A Historic Journey At midnight on 2 May 2017, a historic flight departed from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. On board, ten Eastern black rhinos bound for their new home: Akagera National Park in Rwanda. The majestic (and massive) animals were making the 4,000 km journey from Thaba Tholo Game Ranch in the South Africa’s north to Akagera, Rwanda’s protected savannah park. A week later, eight more rhinos joined their kin, taking the total number of rhinos in Rwanda to 18. The story of returning rhinos to Rwanda began in 2010 when the Rwanda Development Board, which manages the country’s national parks, entered into an agreement with African Parks to manage Akagera. African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that manages national parks and protected areas in partnership with governments to save wildlife, restore landscapes and ensure sustainable livelihoods for local communities.

Since that time, Akagera has been rejuvenated and the park is returning to its former glory. The management of the park overhauled law enforcement and began the process of restocking the park with species that historically called Akagera home. The first such wildlife translocation was the reintroduction of seven lions in 2015 after a 15 year absence due to poaching. Today, the number of lions in the park has risen to 19.

A Conservation Imperative The brutal onslaught of poaching of rhinos across Africa has resulted in fewer than 5,000 black rhino remaining in the wild. Of these, only 1,000 are the Eastern black rhino subspecies. In the 1970s, more than 50 black rhinos thrived in Rwanda, but their numbers declined under the pressure of poaching. The last Eastern black rhino was seen in Akagera in 2007.

With this in mind, the Government of Rwanda and African Parks made the decision to reintroduce rhinos to Rwanda, representing a new hope for the survival of this remarkable animal. By relocating a founder population of 18 rhinos, Rwanda has created the world’s eighth Eastern black rhino range state and established a new sanctuary for the species. “Rhinos are one of the great symbols of Africa yet they are severely threatened and are on the decline in many places across the continent due to the extremely lucrative and illegal rhino horn trade,” said African Parks CEO Peter Fearnhead. “The rhino’s return to this country however is a testament to Rwanda’s extraordinary commitment to conservation and is another milestone in the restoration of Akagera’s natural diversity.”

The Chosen Generation Over the course of February and March this year, the founder population of Eastern black rhinos was carefully selected in South Africa’s Thaba Tholo Game Ranch. Then, on May 1, the animals were transported by truck to Johannesburg where they were loaded onto a special cargo plane large enough to carry the animals (with each weighing up to 1,400 kilograms, a big plane was needed!). Under the careful supervision of animal translocation experts Kester Vickery, Founder of Conservation Solutions, and Dr Andre Uys Wildlife, Veterinarian and Co-founder of Conservation Solutions, the rhinos made the 4,000 km journey to the heart of Africa: Rwanda.

Global Support Translocating 18 rhinos half way across the continent is no easy task. The complexity of the task meant that it had never been attempted before. Therefore, support from many dedicated partners was essential for the success of the project. First amongst these partners is the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, which generously donated the rhinos to the Government of Rwanda. “Several years ago, as we were struggling to have success combating rhino poaching in other parts of Africa, I made a commitment to President Kagame that we would support the reintroduction of rhinos in Rwanda because we knew this country would protect them,” said Howard G. Buffett, Chairman and CEO of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. “Today marks another milestone in Rwanda’s emerging leadership on the continent in conservation, eco-tourism and most importantly, good governance.” The rhino move was also supported by the Dutch Government and the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Their early arrival time in Kigali of 3:30 am was no deterrent for Rwanda’s Chief Tourism Officer, Belise Kariza, and South Africa’s High Commissioner to Rwanda, George Nkosinati Twala, who stood waiting on the tarmac as the plane landed. Speaking as the ground crew unloaded the rhinos, the High Commissioner said: “Rwanda is officially a Big Five nation once again. This is a fantastic day for the country.” As the rhinos made their way from Kigali International Airport to Akagera National Park under police escort, curious bystanders looked on at the convoy with great interest. Online, the return lit up social media causing Twitter to buzz with the news. Rwandans joined in welcoming the rhinos back home with the hashtags #InkuraZagarutse, meaning ‘the rhinos are back’ in Kinyarwanda and #RwandaRhinos.

The incredible work done by the Akagera Park team to build a constituency for conservation was clear to see with hundreds of children from the local primary schools lining the road leading to the park, carrying signs and singing to welcome the rhinos.

Home Sweet Home Akagera National Park is central Africa’s largest protected wetland and is a refuge for savannah species in Rwanda. The rolling highlands, vast plains and swamp fringed lakes of this north-eastern territory contain a rich biodiversity and are home to a number of rare species, such as the shoebill. With more than 12,000 large mammals and 482 bird species, the park is every nature lover’s wildest dream. It’s also the perfect habitat for rhinos. Entering the park, the rhinos were greeted by their new neighbours, including some of the Big 5. A weathered bull

buffalo looked on somewhat bemused while a young bachelor elephant quickly stepped off the road to let the precious cargo pass. A herd of impala and a troop of baboons also witnessed the arrival from the safety of the shrubs and tall grass by the roadside. The rhino’s temporary home, a special enclosure constructed over the last six months to highest safety standards, was prepared with their feed and final checks were made. It was then time to release the rhinos. With supervision from a team of vets from South Africa and Rwanda, the first rhino was released. As the metal door of the crate lifted open, the large male rhino took his first step on Rwandan soil, affirming his status as one of the country’s newest and most welcome citizens. Over the next few hours, the remaining rhinos were released into the boma (the enclosure used to familiarise the animals with their new home). Being in the boma gave them a chance to settle after their long journey before they were released into the wilderness of the park over the following few days. When the first rhino was released into the park, the journey was complete and a new era in the life of Akagera National Park began.

World Class Security Numerous security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the rhinos. This includes an expertly-trained rhino tracking and protection team, a canine anti-poaching unit, and the deployment of a helicopter for critical air surveillance – all made possible with funding provided by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. In addition, the park team has been visiting local communities to share the good news of the rhino’s return and to explain their importance for conservation, the park’s ecosystem and promoting tourism. Speaking on what the return of the rhinos means for Rwanda, CEO of the Rwanda Development Board, Clare Akamanzi said: “The return of the rhinos to Rwanda’s Akagera National Park opens a new chapter in our conservation journey and we are grateful to all our partners that contributed to this achievement. We are fully prepared to welcome them and ensure their safety for the benefit of our tourism industry and the community at large. We couldn’t be more excited for their return.”

A special team of rhino rangers has been trained to monitor the animals in the wilderness of Akagera National Park and to provide security. Many of the rhinos have radio transmitters, which will assist the rangers in locating the animals.

AFRICA’S GROWTH CHANCES AMIDST GLOBAL NATIONALISTIC TRENDS The global political climate is largely characterized by nationalism and nation’s self-interest at the expense of international cooperation. This is seen among the world’s top economic heavy-weights and it can have a relative impact on Africa’s development. By Collins Mwai

A clear example is the United States; the recent change in leadership with its new administration made it clear during the inauguration of Donald Trump that from now on, it would be “America first” as illustrated in the country’s budget proposal presented this past February, which had significant cuts for international cooperation agencies most of them operating in Africa. The United Kingdom, another world economic heavy-weight is following through with its exit from the European Union (EU) which among other things could see a decrease in some aspects of international cooperation including migrant support and trade terms. With 2017 being an election year in some European nations such as Germany, France and Netherlands, various political movements with nationalistic ideologies have also gained popularity in these countries by promising to put their nations’ interests first ahead of any external relations. These trends have somewhat caused fear among developing nations

For years, despite cooperation with African countries, most western countries including the United States have lacked a clear cooperation policy with Africa. However, a group of African leaders led by President Paul Kagame have declared that there should be no reason for fear and that such trends should act as further motivation for the continent to work together for shared progress. President Kagame has called on Africans to consider these nationalistic tendencies as an opportunity to increase partnerships in order to achieve common prosperity. If anything, the trends ought to be a wakeup call for Africans to make the most of the low hanging fruit, by developing areas such as trade and economic exchange among themselves. “As the world is going through uncertainties, we need to look at what more we can do among ourselves for sustainable growth. It will force people to find out what was wrong with the systems we have been working with,” Kagame said when

Political analysts say that moving forward, the continent is set to become self-reliant and reduce donor dependency through sustained efforts to improve the investment climate. Aisha Hamisi, a governance consultant based in Rwanda, said that as countries move to improve their business climate, there would be a likelihood of moving from donation revenue to investment revenue.

One of the ways African leaders are banking on to sustain growth is increasing intra-Africa trade which will reduce the levels of economic vulnerability among countries.

“Economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is currently higher than in any other part of the developing world. This has increased the appetite and interest of western investors towards the African market. By improving their systems, there will be more jobs created and investments made as opposed to relying on donors,” she added. Others say that the time is opportune to fasttrack implementation of initiatives such as the Tripartite Free Trade Area which seeks to integrate the East Africa Community (EAC), Common Market of East Africa (COMESA) and Southern Africa Development Community (SADC). If realised, the trade area would

Philbert Karemera, an economics lecturer at a local private university, said that creating more avenues and opportunities for intraAfrica trade will significantly reduce the trade deficits which greatly favour western countries. This type of trade, he noted, will see an improvement in regional production capacity as well as a trickle-down effects such as job creation. The lecturer also observed a need to diversify the production base to include goods primarily availed through imports from outside the continent to further tilt the trade deficit.

Amplifying Africa's Most Undervalued Asset The Content Creator by Chidi Afulezi, co.founder, aKoma

In Nairobi, this past April, twenty five young men and women gathered at the Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel. As excited as they were to be there, it was clear that there was tension in the air. For six months, these Africans participated in a novel Fellowship program called Amplify that paid each Fellow a monthly stipend to partake in instruction, activities, projects and community in the fields of digital content creation and storytelling. The tension captured the energy of the group as they prepared to make their final presentations, but that energy also encapsulated the group’s first time together in the six months during the program.

et me set some context here. There is a consistent and sustained narrative on the global stage that always seems to neglect to include or acknowledge Africa. It is done in many cases without a thought or necessary malice, which is actually more nefarious than a willing and overt omission.

That last statement resonates powerfully because it propagates that myth of the “dark continent”, so dark it remains unseen and forgotten. The recent trend is that Africans don’t even roll their eyes anymore at this common practice, instead our eyes light up with a fierce pride and anger that conveys that we are no longer interested in making or hearing excuses for a western mindset that doesn’t care to do the work it takes to acknowledge our place on the global stage. So in 2016, former CNN International anchor and Kenya superstar journalist, Zain Verjee, and I - also a former CNN product executive - decided to do something about this. Yes, we started a media company name aKoma. However, we also made a unique move to create an ecosystem that would provide rocket fuel for African content creators and storytellers who are on the front lines of reclaiming and re-orienting the African narrative, despite the challenges of under-appreciation and a tough financial climate for creative in many of the fifty four countries. With Amplify, a movement was set in motion to discover, develop and unleash a creator class that would tell real, authentic, dynamic and amazing African stories. Thus, the first cohort of Amplify Fellows finishing together in Nairobi in April 2017. The group was carefully selected from Kigali (Rwanda), Lagos (Nigeria), and Nairobi (Kenya). Each Fellow brought a unique background and story to the Fellowship. A carefully curated mix of writers, photographers, videographers and journalists were brought together for the six months via virtual and video communications. Some of them were able to travel to visit their colleagues in their native

countries. Some took on media projects from aKoma and other brands as they started their own content or storytelling outfits. All of them were on a rigorous content creation schedule, producing at least one piece every week for public consumption. The curriculum covered mobile video production, media product management, creative writing and photography fundamentals amongst other topics. It was fun, but it was also very hard work. I say without any hesitation that the media entrepreneur is the most important entrepreneur for Africa in this breakneck technological stanza that the world is going through right now. Even as we must acknowledge the different countries, cultures, ethnicities, flavors that permeate the continent, it is clear that without the stories that capture and highlight the awesomeness of the people and landscape of the continent, the world will continue to keep us on the sidelines. Thus the storytellers, the content creators, the individuals and groups,

the media entrepreneurs must be supported and enabled to tell the amazing story of Rwanda’s renaissance, the emergence of Nairobi as a tech hub, the explosive transformation of Nigeria’s movie industry, amongst the other many stories that should be told. And these creators should be able to make a living doing this. If America’s Steven Spielberg or Ted Turner can become billionaires as storytellers then so should Amplify ‘17 Fellows Cynthia Butare of Rwanda and Donna Nsofor of Nigeria, if not all of them. The closing ceremonies in Nairobi were bittersweet. Bitter that it had to come to an end. Sweet that the Fellows are now in a position to become purveyors of amazing stories on Africa’s behalf. Sweet that the second cohort of Amplify will kick off in September with a new bunch of Fellows, this time with the addition of Fellows from Ghana. As I said to the Fellows in our final time together, “Go forth and be awesome”.

UBUMUNTU Arts Festival

The Ubumuntu Arts Festival was created in 2015 by Hope Azeda, the founder and artistic director of the Mashirika Performing Arts and Media Company, to act as a catalyst for national and international peace building processes. The festival symbolically happens after the last week of the 100 days commemoration period for the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. It brings together different artists and performance troupes from across the globe for various performances, workshops and panel discussions centered on the theme of humanity. “Rwanda, with its unique history, is the perfect venue to gather people from all walks of life to reflect upon topics like conflict, peace, and humanity through the medium of art. Art has manifested itself the world over as an efficient form of communicating, expressing opinions, airing issues and sharing values, about all aspects of life that affect humanity,” says Azeda. The 3rd edition of Ubumuntu Arts Festival will be staged at Kigali Genocide Memorial’s

Amphitheatre from the 14th to the 16th July 2017. Performancers will come from USA, Uganda, UK, Belgium, DRC, South Africa, Czech Republic, Poland, India, Kenya, Lebanon, Sweden, Iraq, Burundi, Nigeria, and Rwanda. This year, performances will be grouped under four different performance clusters: professional, recreational, works-in-progress, and international collaborations. Before the main stage performances, there will

also be pre-event flash mobs that will take place on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of July at different strategic locations across the City of Kigali, and will be followed by an opening reception on the 13th of July. Ubumuntu Arts Festival will close with an official after party on the 16th of July immediately following the closing night of performances. This year’s performances include The Chibok Girls: Our Story from Nigeria which uses the medium of testimonial theatre to examine the curious circumstances preceding the kidnapping of the girls from the school in Chibok, the event itself, and its aftermath. The production features professional actors on stage with three of the girls who escaped the Boko Haram insurgents after their captures. Recently another 82 girls were released, yet over 100 still remain missing. Their story is as pertinent as ever and we are honored to shade light on crimes against humanity.

GHANA, THE INVITATION

If you are looking for Ghana, you will find it on the Coast of Guinea. It is a Republic that has very little to do with the former Ghanaian Empire and that spreads over 238.535 sq. km. The current country is located in Western Africa between Cote d’Ivoire to the West, Burkina Faso in the North and Togo to the East. It is thus an integral part of the Economic Community of West African States, even if its currency isn’t the Franc but the Cedi. Originally an English speaking country, Ghana is however part of the International Organization of Francophonie.

Ghana is made up of savannah in the North and dense tropical forests in the South. The tropical climate that has heavier rains in May and in June. It is the long rainy season or the winter. The Volta lake is formed where the Black Volta and the White Volta meet with rivers Oti and Daka. The Akosombo dam, at the Southern end of the lake, produces an important quantity of energy for the country. In the collective memory, Ghana is historically known for the action and the aura of one of the legendary African figures, Kwame Nkrumah, a very famous Pan-Africanist who, at the beginning of the 1960s, led Ghana to its independence.

Summary of the country’s history One has to go back to the years 1500 to perceive some sort of consistency in the history of the country. Before this period, not much is known. The archeological research has shown that human occupation goes back a long time, whether on the coast or inland. Recent research have shown that in the forest area, there were habitation sites surrounded by deep ditches dating between the 7th and 14th century of our era. This type of site that is known from Cote d’Ivoire to Nigeria, is a testimony of the existence of sedentary civilization that mastered metallurgy and which probably lived off yam culture and palm oil exploitations, and is particularly suited to the forest environment. These sites were brutally abandoned in the 14th century. The Black death also known as the bubonic plague could be the reason why these sites were abandoned. The disease already present in Europe and North Africa around the same time is famous for its devastating effects on the population, although no conclusive evidence has been found in Sub-Saharan Africa Ghana was a British colony known under the name Gold Coast, with an apostolic vicariate under the same name which was entrusted to the missionaries of Lyon. After the First World War, the Gold Coast grew in size with the inclusion of part of German Togoland. The other part was entrusted to France which was already present in Dahomey (currently Benin) and would later form contemporary Togo. Ghana has been independent since the 6th of March, 1957. The road to reach this point was harsh and rough. It took the tenacity and temerity of young Nkrumah, who called for a boycott and civil disobedience, which earned him to be jailed by the British authorities from 1948 to 1951. He would only be named Prime Minister after being freed. He then worked closely with the British authorities and used the « Africanisation of administration, pan-Africanism and anticommunism » policies, to be able to develop the infrastructure of his country with the surplus of the Office of Cocoa Commercialization. That is how the education and health sector recorded significant improvements. After the legislative elections in 1956, the party of the CPP (Convention’s People Party) won three quarters of the seats. Nkrumah, with this success, forced the United Kingdom to concede independence, which was proclaimed during the first trimester of 1957. The Gold Coast thus became the first colony to obtain its independence after Sudan which had won it a year earlier. On the very day of independence, the strong man decided to abandon the colonial name of the country for the current one, as a tribute to the Empire of Ghana. He had the intelligence of staying in the Commonwealth when the country became a Republic on the 1st of July 1960, which Kwame Nkrumah will preside over for ten years.

Ghana nowadays Ghana is made up of ten regions, which are themselves made up of 216 districts. The country has a surface of 238.540 sq. km of which 3.5 are water. According to the last national census of 2010, its population was 27.043.093 with 67.1% of Anglophones. This figure includes people who can read and write English, which shows that the Ghanaian population overall has a good working knowledge of this Western language. Asante (or Twi), one of the main national languages is spoken by 47.5% of the population. As an Anglophone country surrounded by Francophone countries (Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Togo), it has excellent relationship with its neighbors. The authorities have thus decided over the past few years, to start teaching the French language to Ghanaians.

Le lac Volta est formé par la rencontre de la Volta noire,de la Volta blanche et des rivières Oti et Daka. Le Barrage d’Akosombo, situé au sud du lac, produit une quantité importante d’énergie pour le pays. Dans la mémoire collective, le Ghana est historiquement connu pour l’action et l’aura suscité par l’une des figures légendaires africaines, en la personne de Kwame Nkrumah, panafricaniste de grande renommée qui, à l’aube des années soixante, mena le Ghana à l’indépendance.

L’histoire du pays en quelques lignes Il faut remonter aux années 1500 pour qu’une certaine cohérence dans le récit historique se dégage. De l’ ‘avant cette période’’, nous ne savons grand-

Ces sites furent brutalement abandonnés au XIVe siècle. La peste noire et ses conséquences dévastatrices sur la démographie, bien connues en Europe et en Afrique du Nord à la même époque et dont l’étude en Afrique subsaharienne reste à réaliser, pourrait être à l’origine de ces bouleversements à grande échelle. Le Ghana fut une colonie britannique sous le nom de Gold Coast (Côte de l’Or), avec un vicariat apostolique du

The country has also a soil which is rich in gold, diamond and manganese. These are its main exports, whereas for local consumption, one could mention cultures such as plantains, peanuts, cassava, rice, sorghum and millet. The country experienced very strong growth from 2007 to 2013. This growth peaked in 2011, year during which Ghana was the country with the strongest economic growth in the world with more than 17% growth rate! The country has been, since the beginning of the 21st century, along with Cambodia and China has had one of the highest GDP growth rate. It is a country with several assets. This success can be explained by looking at the country’s leadership, compared to other countries on the continent Ghana has enjoyed relative political and social stability, favorable for economic development, which also attracted investors both local and international. Paradoxically, since 2013, GDP growth has slowed down to 30%, mainly due to a decrease in the price of oil, a devalued currency, a very flexible fiscal system and a recurring electricity problem. The current growth is comparable to that of the year 2010

C’est ainsi que les domaines de l’éducation et de la santé enregistrent des avancées significatives. Après les élections législatives de 1956, le Parti du chef de la Primature, le CPP remporte les trois quarts des sièges. Nkrumah, fort de son

succès, oblige alors le Royaume-Uni à concéder l’indépendance, qui est proclamée dans le premier trimestre de1957. La Côte-de-l’Or devient ainsi la première colonie à obtenir son indépendance après le Soudan qui l’avait gagné une année plus tôt. Le jour même de l’indépendance, l’homme fort décide d’abandonner le nom colonial du pays au profit de l’actuel, en hommage à l’Empire du Ghana. Il a l’intelligence de rester dans le Commonwealth alors que son pays devient le 1er juillet 1960, une république, que Kwame Nkrumah présidera dix ans.

Le Ghana de nos jours Il est composé de dix régions, elles mêmes faites de deux cent seize districts. Le pays grand de 238.540 kilomètres carrés dont 3,5 en eau, comptait selon le recensement national de 2010, une population de 27 043 093 avec 67,1 % d’anglophones. Ce chiffre comprend les personnes sachant lire et écrire l’anglais, ce qui montre que la population du Ghana a globalement une bonne connaissance de cette langue occidentale. If English is the official language, there isn’t just one but two languages in one! There is « universal » English and Ghanaian English (broken English). On top of this, one needs to add nine national languages depending on the regions: Akan (Akuapem Twi, Asante Twi, Fanti, Dagaare (Wale), Dagbane Dangme, Ewe, Ga, Gonja, Kasem and Nzema. And that’s not all, there are also 80 local languages and even more dialects! There are six big ethnic groups in the country: the Akan in the centre and in the South, the Ha and Adangmes near Accra, the Guangs (Ghanjawiyyu), in the humid forest, the Dagombas, Mamprusis and related people, in the North, the people of the Gourounsi (gur) languages, also in the North, and the Gonjas, still in the North. The great majority of Ghanaians are believers with 71.2% of Christians, 13.1% of which are Catholics. The rest are Orthodox, Methodists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Adventists, and people from the Pentecostal church. There are 17.1% of Muslims in Ghana and atheists and agnostics are estimated at 5.3% and 5.2% respectively.

Tourism attractions When visiting Ghana, one can start with Accra, the capital, then move on to Cape Coast, to Elmina, Kakum or Kumasi, Hohoe and Larabanga. But before leaving Accra to go upcountry, take some time to visit the memorial site dedicated to the historical figure Kwame Nkrumah, then if you enjoy flora, you should visit the Botanical Gardens of Aburi. lovers, you must go to Bojo Beach. For thrill seekers (at least visually) the Wii and/or Kitampo waterfalls are a must! Then head towards Larabanga where giant elephants await friends of the wilderness. Those who prefer the company of less impressive but love animals, could head to Monkey Forest Resort in Cape Coast or Ho. Ancient arts and cultures can be found in the History museums, the Specialized Museums and Arts Museums, but also Military Museums. They are split between the regions of Cape Coast, Accra, Kumasi and Kokobite. The other touristic sites of the country are Tema, Tamale, Anomabo, Axim, Aburi, Weja, Busua or even Paga. Other more participatory activities are on offer such as outings or nautical sports, mainly in Busua. In Accra, there are guided tours with James Town Walking Tours, Ghana Nima Tours or even with Landtours Ghana. If you feel like buying cultural products, then the Makola Market, the Centre for national culture or the Artists Alliance Galery and the Global Mamas will help you fit parts of Ghana in your suitcases. And do not think that « intellectual » activities are neglected. The National Theatre of Ghana is the main center for this type of activities. What about night owls? Restaurants and night clubs are plentiful.

King of Football One cannot introduce Ghana, even briefly, without mentioning that it is a nation of « the number one sport ». Before it was even called Ghana, the Gold Coast country of sailors and British expatriates of the end of the 19th century introduced football as early as 1903 in Cape Coast where the very first football club was born. Then the Hearts of Oak Sporting club followed suit in 1911. One needs to wait until 1920 to witness the effective creation of the very first football association. Then first championship was launched in Accra. Twelve other editions followed until 1953. Even if independence was far from being proclaimed for the country, the Federation organized on 28th May 1950 with the Nigerian federation, created in 1945, the very first game between the two nations. It was the first official international game of the Gold Coast at home. The score was in its favor: 1 goal to nil. It was on the very year of its independence that Ghana created its own football Federation (then the Ghana Amateur Football Association). A few months later it becomes a member of the International Football Federation in 1958 and of the African Football Confederation. The Ghanaian selection was now allowed to take part in international competitions. The legendary Ghanaian team (known as Black Stars) started registering successes as early as in 1959 and so a long saga began. Many « things » would happen before the team discovered the world cup in 2006. But before that, the country of the legendary Abedi Pelé - who then was its biggest international football star- co-organized the African Cup of Nations in 2000 with Nigeria.

Il faut compter six grands groupes ethniques dans tout le pays: les Akan au centre et au sud, les Ga et les Adangmés, près d’Accra, les Guangs (Ghanjawiyyu), en forêt humide, les Dagombas, Mamprusis et peuples proches, au nord, les peuples de langues gourounsi (gur), au nord, et les Gonjas toujours au nord.

Aperçu sur son économie

Les Ghanéens sont croyants, en majorité. Ils sont à 71,2% sont chrétiens dont 13,1% de Catholiques. Il faut compter aussi des Orthodoxes, des Méthodistes, des Anglicans, des Presbytériens, des Luthériens, des Baptistes, des Adventistes et des Pentecôtistes. Se greffent aussi plusieurs autres ouverts à des orientations qui se réclament du Christianisme. L’Islam au Ghana est présent à 17,1%. L’irréligion est estimée à 5,3% et l’Animisme à 5,2%.

Ses principales ressources sont le Cacao, la Bauxite et l’Aluminium. Le sous-sol compte aussi des richesses minières et agricoles dont l’Or, le Diamant, le Manganèse et le Café, l’Ananas et les noix de Coco et de Cajou. Ce sont ses principales exportations, tandis que pour la consommation locale, les cultures sont faites de bananes plantains, de Cacahuètes, de Manioc, de Riz, de Sorgho, et de Millet. Six années -de2007 à 2013- ont été les plus propices à la croissance de ce pays qui s’est avérée très forte. Le pic de croissance est atteint en 2011, année durant laquelle le Ghana est le pays à la croissance économique la plus forte au monde avec plus de 17% ! Le pays est, depuis le début du XXI è siècle, aux cotés du Cambodge et de la Chine, le pays qui atteint le plus grands taux de croissance du PIB national. C’est un pays qui compte plusieurs atouts. Cela peut s’e x p l i q u e r notamment par des antécédents historiques dont principalement la gestion du pouvoir politique et de l’économie considérées comme exemplaires par rapport aux pays du continent d’une part et de l’autre part la relative stabilité sécuritaire en l’absence de conflits et de tensions entre communautés locales et/ou voisines. C’est un indicateur qui attire plus aisément les investissements étrangers. Le Ghana jouit donc d’une certaine attractivité. Mais paradoxalement, depuis 2013, le PIB est revenu ainsi au niveau de 2010, à 30% en raison de la baisse du pétrole, d’une devise dévaluée, de problèmes électriques récurrents et d’une fiscalité trop souple. Le Ghana culturel Si l’anglais est la langue officielle, il n’y en a pas qu’un seul, mais plutôt deux langues en une ! Comptez l’anglais ‘universel’’ et l’anglais ghanéen. S’ajoutent neuf langues nationales selon les régions akan (akuapem twi, asante twi, fanti), dagaare (wale), dagbane, dangme, ewe, ga, gonja, kasem et nzema. Ce n’est pas

Touristiquement parlant La visite au Ghana peut partir d’Accra, la capitale, puis s’étendre à Cape Coast, à Elmina, à Kakum ou encore Kumasi, Hohoe et Larabanga. Mais avant de partir d’Accra pour le pays profond, passer tout de même par le site Mémorial dédié à la figure historique Kwame Nkrumah, puis si vous aimez la flore, les jardins botaniques d’Aburi. Les arts et cultures anciens sont à retrouver dans les Musées d’Histoire, les Musées Spécialisés et Musées d’Art, mais aussi les Musées Militaires. Ils se partagent entre les régions de Cape Coast, Accra, Kumasi et Kokobite. D’autres sites touristiques du pays sont Tema, Tamale, Anomabo, Axim, Aburi, Weja, Busua ou encore Paga. D’autres activités plus participatives, proposent des excursions et des sports nautiques, essentiellement à Busua. After the 2006 World Cup, Ghana was from then on a solid value of African football, and maybe of international football. This is what earned it the right to organize the African Cup of Nations. And two years later, here it goes again with the 2010 World Cup, the first one on African soil, in Madiba’s country. Ghana would go to the quarter finals. Four years later, it was still one of the teams on which the African continent was counting on to represent it in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Ayew brothers, including André, the most popular and brightest of the Black Stars, have proven themselves during the last games of the African Cup of Nations, without being able to « bring the trophy home ». Ghana’s last success goes back to 1982. Back then, the team was led by a certain…Abedi Pelé.

La légendaire équipe Ghanéenne commence ses exploits dès 1959 et c’est une longue épopée qui commence. Il s’en passera des ‘choses’’ avant la découverte de la coupe du monde en l’an 2006. Mais avant cela le pays du légendaire Abedi Pelé – alors sa plus grande étoile internationale de footballco-organise avec le Nigéria la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations en 2000.

Le Football roi Une présentation du Ghana, si sommaire soit-elle, n’en serai pas une si elle omettait d’en parler comme d’une ‘nation du sport roi’’. Avant même de s’appeler Ghana, le pays de Côte-de-l’Or des marins et expatriés britanniques à la fin du XIXe siècle introduit le ballon rond dès 1903 à Cape Coast nait le tout premier club de Football. Suivront le Hearts of Oak Sporting Club en 1911. Il faudra attendre 1920 pour que la toute première association de football soit bel et bien effective. Un premier championnat est lancé à Accra. Douze éditions s’en suivront jusqu’en 1953. Même si l’indépendance est loin d’être proclamée pour le pays, la Fédération organise le 28 mai 1950 avec celle du Nigeria, fondée en 1945. Premier match entre les deux nations. Il s’agit du premier match international officiel de la Côte-de-l’Or à domicile. Le score lui est favorable : un but à zéro.

Au sortir de la Coupe du Monde 2006, le Ghana est une valeur sure du football africain et peut-être mondial. C’est cela qui lui vaut d’être pays organisateur de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations. Et deux années plus tard, le revoilà parti pour la Coupe du monde de 2010, la première ne terre africaine, au pays de Madiba. Le Ghana ira jusqu’aux quarts de finale. Quatre années plus tard, il fait toujours parties des équipes sur lesquelles compte le continent africain pour sa représentation en coupe du monde 2014 au Brésil. Les frères Ayew dont André, le plus populaire et étoile la plus brillante des Black Stars qui ont fait leurs preuves il y a quelques mois lors des derniers jeux de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations mais sans arriver à ‘soulever la coupe’’. Le dernier succès du Ghana en Coupe d’Afrique des Nations remonte à 1982. A cette époque, l’équipe est menée au sacre par un certain… Abedi Pelé.

C’est l’année même de son indépendance, que le Ghana se dote de sa Fédération de football (alors la Ghana Amateur Football Association). Quelques mois plus tard, elle devient membre de la Fédération

rt is a thing of natural beauty in its very essence. When used for a cause, art reveals its infinite layers in its capacity to tell a testimony. Art encompasses a wide range of activities; most often talked about are music, literature, theatre, fashion and painting, but less so cinema. Especially when it comes to Rwandan cinema and its tentative steps. It is perhaps easier to talk about the film industry by discussing the obvious; the latest releases at the box office which come up on all our connected devices. Blockbusters by the likes of Spielberg, Eastwood, Scorsese or even Besson and Lelouch productions are more tempting than movies made by Sissako, Ouedraogo or even Olivier Uwayezu. The latter is a survivor of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. It does not require much imagination to grasp why this point in time will forever be engrained his memory. In his, certainly, but not necessarily in yours. Like many, you were likely not in Rwanda during this sad year. Now in his early thirties, Uwayezu witnessed many things during that time when he was barely a teenager. In the Rwandan way, even when one has seriously been affected, bravery overshadows what lies beyond the eye. A joy of life almost miraculously wins over this barely speakable part of history. Boris Cyrulnik calls it resilience, and God knows Rwandans are indeed resilient. This notion does not take anything away from the duty of remembrance.

Il est sans doute bien plus aisé de parler du 7ième art en prenant les raccourcis des dernières sorties du box office, qui s’affichent sur nos objets connectés. Les dernières productions de Spielberg, Eastwood, Scorsese ou encore de Besson et de Lelouch sont plus aguicheuses que les films de Sissako, Ouedraogo ou encore d’Olivier Uwayezu. Petit poisson pourtant deviendra grand.

The testimonies from the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi have been shared first on traditional media; radio, television and written press. Then came documentaries; books such as La mort veut pas de moi (death does not want me), N’aies pas peur de savoir (don’t be afraid to know) by Yolande Mukagasana, Left to tell, Led by Faith, or The boy who met Jesus by Immaculée Iribagiza. There were also theatrical representations such as Rwanda 94 by Marie France Collard, which is to this day the most popular. Movies such as Sometimes in April by Raoul Peck have contributed to tell the tragedy that occurred in Rwanda.

Les frémissements du cinéma rwandais se font après quatre-vingt quatorze et ne peuvent pas faire phi de cette triste réalité qui fait qu’au pays des mille collines, il existe bel et bien un ‘avant’’ et un ‘après’’ 1994. Alors, il faut raconter pour ne pas briser la chaine de transmission de ce que fut, est et restera la tragédie de ce temps là au cœur de l’Afrique. C’est pour ne pas laisser une fois de plus le récit de l’histoire de son pays se raconter par d’ ‘autres’’ non aussi légitimes que les rescapés du drame d‘avril à juillet 1994, qu’il faut que ces derniers se mettent à l’ouvrage.

Ce dernier est un rescapé du génocide perpétré contre les Tutsis au Rwanda, en 1994. Il ne faut pas être savant pour comprendre pourquoi ce chiffre est à jamais gravé dans sa mémoire. Dans la sienne certes, mais pas forcément dans la vôtre, qui n’étiez pas au Rwanda en cette année de si triste mémoire. La trentaine et quelques douzaines de mois, il en a vu des choses alors qu’il entrait à peine en adolescence. A la manière des Rwandais, l’affect même gravement touché ne se lit pas forcément sur les visages. La joie de vivre l’emporte quasi miraculeusement sur cette histoire

Countless stories remain to be told so that the chain of transmission of what stands amongst Africa’s greatest tragedies is not broken. Rather than let “others”- those that cannot account as legitimately as the survivors- tell the history of the tragedy of 1994, Olivier Uwayezu made a promise to himself that he would tell these stories. Passionate about cinema, it became

clear to him that it would be the right vehicle to share his testimony. Not the story of his life but even better; the stories of others. He set out to learn all about the art; got trained and eventually started a professional practice in 2007. From 2009 to 2014, Uwayezu worked on putting together a team by recruiting youth. Each cohort was made up of twelve trainees and they received threemonths training in pre-production, production and post-production. During that period sixty youth had been trained paving the way for others, also hungry for cinema. So

Olivier Uwayezu s’est promis de le faire. Passionné de cinéma, ce moyen serait de toute évidence pour lui, le canal par lequel passer son témoignage. Non pas le récit de sa vie mais mieux encore, les récits de celles des autres multiples et variées mais toutes touchées de manière indélébile par l’hécatombe. Tout au Rwanda, très jeune pays, passe par l’apprentissage. La légitimité de toute pratique professionnelle ne saurait se passer de la case ‘ formation’’. Il commence lui-même par être formé en 2007. De 2009 à 2014, Olivier Uwayezu travaille sur la constitution d’une équipe de travail avec un recrutement de jeunes intéressés. Ils sont formés pendant trois mois, en Pré-production, en Production et en Postproduction. Elles et ils se content par dizaines, six pour commencer. Les soixante ouvrent la voie à d’autres assoiffés du 7ième Art. Chaque promotion est faite d’au moins une douzaine d’apprenants. Quarante cinq histoires sont à ce jour comptabilisées par la 94 Hi Studio grâce aux récits des témoins.

Si le récit du dernier génocide du XX ème siècle est la raison principale qui a motivé le tout jeune homme à se former, à former puis à se lancer, il va sans dire que le jeune cinéaste s’intéresse et intéresse son auditoire à un autre type de récit. ‘ J’aimerai apporter au cinéma rwandais plus d’adhésion du grand public avec la reconnaissance des pouvoirs publics et culturels sur l’utilité et le pouvoir de cet art dans les sociétés du monde et dans la notre plus particulièrement’’. Le Festival Panafricain du Cinéma pourrait compter sur ce jeune producteurréalisateur et sur les filles et garçons que son école forme, c’est en tous cas le souhait du jeune entrepreneur. ‘J’aime l’esprit de ce festival panafricain qui est lui-même la preuve qu’à force de volonté, on peut ! Plus que des moyens financiers et une idée, je crois que c’est une vision que sou tend une volonté tenace qui se réalise. Je me nourris de cet exemple et de bien d’autres pour me dire que nous aussi, nous y arriverons’’ dit-il l’œil pétillant.

The story of the last genocide of the 20th century was the original motivation behind Uwayezu’s plunge into the world of storytelling through cinema but the young film-maker also wants to take his audience on another type journey, “I would like to gain greater public interest for Rwandan cinema and I wish for the authorities and the cultural sector to acknowledge the utility and power of this art form in societies across the world and more specifically in ours.” If Rwanda is shining globally for its gender promotion; young Rwandan females still underrepresented in the film industry. This, probably due to the weight of a culture which still struggles to encourage girls to get involved in less traditional sectors. Learning to make film in Rwanda is also about breaking down misconceptions, including a persistent one that leads people to believe that working in the film industry is synonymous to being an actor. Training actors does not fall under the mission of 94 Hi Studio, instead the studio’s objectives focus on writing good screenplays, elaborate storytelling and stellar production; this is how it hopes to gain traction.

L’apprentissage du cinéma au Rwanda, c’est aussi l’abattage de certains préjugés dont celui, plus tenace, qui veut que dans l’esprit collectif d’amateurs de ‘ tout premier niveau’’, travailler dans l’industrie cinématographique rime avec ‘ tourner dans un film’’. La 94 Hi Studio est bien loin de former des actrices et acteurs de film. L’écriture d’un bon scénario, le récit ciselé d’une histoire dans sa production est l’objectif majeur de l’école qui veut ainsi faire ses preuves. Les Ministère de la Culture et de la Jeunesse et des Technologies devraient s’intéresser à cette discipline où celles et ceux qui s’y sont lancés sont quelque peu ‘ laissés pour compte’’. Non pas qu’ils soient les mal aimés de ces Institutions, mais simplement les moins bien connus et donc les moins soutenus. En fin d’année dernière la 94 Hi Studio & School avait reçu la visite du Ministère des Sports et de la Culture ainsi que du Ministère de la Jeunesse et des Technologies ce qui demontrait un signe d’ouverture pour les jeunes artistes.

Dirigez vous vers l’Est et la ville d’Hermanus, connue pour être l’un des meilleurs point d’observation terrestre des baleines au monde. À quelques heures de route encore plus vers l’Est se trouve la spectaculaire route Garden et ses forêts indigènes, de nombreux lagons, et plages ensoleillées. Vous connaissez les larmes du vin ? Ce sont ces gouttelettes qui se forment sur les parois de votre verre de vin. Elles sont parfois abondantes, visqueuses. Parfois, au contraire, elles sont quasiment absentes, le vin semble alors fluide. Certains d’entre vous se posent des questions sur la différence qu’il y a entre les larmes du vin et la qualité du vin. Les larmes du vin sont les gouttelettes qui s’accrochent plus ou moins sur la paroi du verre, parfois les gouttelettes glissent très vite dans ce cas le vin est fluide et dans d’autres cas ces gouttelettes sont plus grasse et glissent beaucoup plus lentement et sont plus visqueuses on dit donc du vin qu’il a des jambes ou de la cuisse. Nous devons d’abord avoir en tête la composition du vin pour comprendre ce phénomène de larmes. Le vin est composé principalement d’alcool et d’eau ,dont en majorité d’eau. Quand vous êtes amateur d’eau vous êtes donc aussi amateur de vin ; parce que le vin contient 80% d’eau et contient évidement de l’alcool principalement de l’éthanol qui varie entre 10 à 14% . Et ensuite nous y retrouvons un peu de glycerol et d’autres composantes.

Alors qu’est ce qui se passe dans la formation des larmes ?

Les vins qui pleurent le plus sont les vins méditerranéens

Quand on met le vin en contact avec le la parois du verre, il va en quelques sortes coller à la paroi ,ce qu’on appelle une tension superficielle, la force qu’il y a à la surface de séparation entre deux milieux ,ce qui fait que le vin adhère à la paroi du verre.

Parce que qui dit climat ensoleillés dit pour la vigne photosynthése, ca veut dire qu’il y a du sucre dans la baie de raisin . Ce sucre qui se transforme en alcool par la fermentation alcoolique.

Ce petit film de vin qui adhère à la paroi du verre est composée en majorité d’eau et d’alcool, entre l’eau et l’alcool il y a un des éléments qui va s’évaporer en premier et c’est évidement l’alcool. L’alcool dont l’éthanol a un point d’ébullition de 7 degrés ,alors que l’eau est à 100 degrés ça veut dire qu’en température ambiante la première composante qui va s’évaporer est l’alcool, ce qui voudra dire que le film de vin qui reste sur la paroi du verre va être de moins en moins concentrer en alcool puis qu’il s’évapore et reste donc plus riche en eau. Or ce qu’il faut savoi ,c’est que l’eau est plus lourde et plus dense que le l’alcool, l’eau a une densité de 1000 et l’alcool de 780 . Ceci ne veut pas pour autant dire que votre vin s’est dépouillée de tout son alcool ,parce que cet alcool qui s’est évaporée et qui a formé un petit bourelet est remplacé par cet alcool qui monte du verre c’est comme un systéme de pompe qui est alimenté par le verre, c’est en fait l’effet « MARANGONI » Nous conclurons donc que ce qui permet la formation des larmes ,est l’alcool contenu dans le verre, ce qui veut dire que les vins pour lesquelles vous avez plus de larmes sont généralement des vins qui sont riches en alcool.la formation des larmes sera alors plus accentuée.

Soit dit en passant il n’’ ya pas que la température qui va jouer sur le phénomène de la formation des larmes, mais il ya aussi l’état de surface de votre verre.

Les larmes qu’on observe dans un vin ne sont-elles liées à la qualité du vin ? On constate que la qualités du vin n’est pas liée à la quantité des larmes, mais il y a quand même des cas particulier. si vous comparez deux verres de vins du même millésime de la même appellation ,par exemple si vous comparez deux « Chinon » du même millésime et que vous constatez qu’il y en a un qui est plus fluide que l’autre, l’un va très peu accrocher aux parois et l’autre être plus gras, on peut juste en conclure que celui qui a plus d’alcool est peut être issue d’une parcelle du vignoble qui est plus ensoleillée qu’il a eu une meilleure exposition au soleil, ce qui a permis au vin d’avoir une meilleure maturité donc plus de sucre ,qui aura donné plus d’alcool. On pourrait a priori en conclure que celui qui a plus de larmes dans ce cas précis est plus qualitatif. Nous disons a priori, pour quand même avoir plus de recule dans ces conclusions. Allez donc à vos verres et faites les pleurer, en profitant de cette période d’été.

Conservation is life

Celebrating Rwanda’s conservation success Kwita Izina is a time-honored tradition in which Rwandan families hold a ceremony to name newborn babies. For three decades, prior to the first official gorilla naming ceremony, the park Rangers and Researchers named Rwanda’s baby gorillas as a key part of the on-going programme in monitoring each individual gorilla in their family and habitat.

for their on-going and valuable support of these initiatives; now the most important annual event on Rwanda’s calendar, it is attended by approximately thirty thousand community members and two to three thousand international, regional and local participants each year.

The Government of Rwanda, through the Rwanda Development Board and in collaboration with conservation partners, private sector stakeholders and local communities, has achieved remarkably in protecting and growing the endangered Mountain Gorilla population and its habitat. Rwanda’s naming ceremony tradition was adapted as a celebration of this success in the national flagship event known as Kwita Izina.

To date, two hundred and thirty nine (239) mountain gorillas have been named in the 12 ceremonies since the first Kwita Izina in 2005. Kwita Izina is fast becoming known as Africa’s leading dialogue on conservation and tourism. Alongside the naming ceremony, a weeklong celebration of activities are hosted; a fund raising gala dinner, followed by a conservation and tourism exhibition and the highly acclaimed Conversation on Conservation dialogue forum. Hosted familiarization trips for international Tour Operators and Media are an important part of the event activities.

From the epic stories of the Mandingo griots to the melodic plague of the bluesmen of the Mississippi Delta, New Orleans to Manhattan clubs, Yoruba rhythms to the birth of afrobeat, maloya to samba, from suburbs in Kingston, where ska and reggae appeared, to the empty grounds of the Bronx where hip-hop emerged: the voice, the breath, the rhythms, the soul of millions of slaves deported from the African coast to the Americas have generated a constellation of incredibly rich music. Black music shapes the world’s pop culture and transcends any ethnicity or nationalist concepts. The Great Black Music exhibition is a showcase of this formidable musical journey. Rwanda was the inaugural host of Great Black

Cette exposition est une installation multimédia qui propose à son public une expérience d’immersion musicale et sensorielle par le biais de tablettes numériques et d’applications qui guident le visiteur lors de son parcours à travers l’exposition. Rwanda Arts Initiative travaille en collaboration avec la bibliothèque publique de Kigali, qui lui fournit l’espace pour l’exposition et les évènements annexes pendant quatre mois. Avec le support d’Africalia, Rwanda Arts Initiative aspire à rassembler les amateurs de musique de toute la région pour célébrer la musique, l’histoire noire et la dignité, et donc de permettre à Kigali de se démarquer en tant que ville culturelle majeure.

This past March, the Rwanda Arts Initiative, delivered a ground breaking and interactive preview of what’s to come at the Great Black Music with a display capturing the evolution of black music culture through the ages and across continents. The Great Black Music is a one-of-a-kind exhibition staged and co-produced by the digital arts factory, Atelier 144, and curated by its founder, Marc Benaiche. Through a multimedia installation, the audience is immersed in a musical and sensory experience via digital tablets with applications that guide the guests as they walk through the showcase. The event was coordinated by Rwanda Arts Initiative in collaboration with the Kigali Public Library, which was the host site for the main feature and auxiliary events.

THE ODDS ARE DEBATABLY GOOD The craze about sports in Africa is legendary. Enormously, the passion for football is almost religious. Understandably, the sports industry has grown from a social past time to a business juggernaut worth $500-600billion with an annual revenue of $140-160b worth $180M. Africa is joining the bandwagon.

Hardly five years old, has the Kenyan company straddled the sports betting world so much so that it has become the marquee poster boy of sports betting firms in Africa - to the extent it is now competing for a dominant position of brand positioning in European sports. Recently, to the bewilderment of sports fans, SportPesa announced its $10 million – threeyear shirt deal with one of English Premier League’s oldest clubs, Hull City, complementing further deals signed with Southampton Fc and The Arsenal Fc as their official betting partner. Conveniently explaining the mindboggling deals following speculations, its CEO Ronald Karauri told soccer portal www.goal.com that the “…Sponsorship and any other international sponsorship are based on revenue projections from the international business. Just like we have international brands offering sports betting and other services in Africa, SportPesa is also taking the Kenyan brand globally.” Within its shores, Sportpesa is the new money bags, inking sponsorship deals with the Football Kenya Federation, Kenya Premier League now SportPesa Premier League and a slew of individual clubs; the national rugby, basketball well over $16 million.

The firm’s growing influence has been furthered by the fact that the gargantuan fortunes have not in the past been taxed because of a conundrum in the hitherto existing law whether to tax the winnings or the operators, with SportPesa and the ilk favoring taxation on winnings. But in a bid to regulate the growth and a stake in the zillions, the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary of Treasury Mr. Henry Rotich, in his 2017/18 budget statement unrelentingly slapped a fifty percent tax measure on betting firms, to the chagrin of the operators, who now say that the move will completely kill the industry rubbing away the little gains made in supporting sports.

Mais dans un effort de régulation de la croissance et des enjeux à hauteur de milliers de millions, le Secrétaire du Cabinet au Trésor kenyan, Mr Henry Rotich, dans son exposé budgétaire 2017/18 a implacablement imposé une mesure de taxation à hauteur de 50% sur les entreprises de paris, qui déclarent désormais que cette décision va complètement tuer l’industrie en érodant entièrement les modestes gains réalisés en appui au sport.

Time will tell where the industry is leading Africa. As of now, money talks and talk walks - the odds that the industry needs to be viewed as catalytic to the African economies seem to favor its proponents against the moralists’ argument that it has potential to degenerate the youth into the vicious path of addiction.

Seul le temps nous dira quelle industrie dirige l’Afrique. Explore : KIGALI GENOCIDE MEMORIAL, The Genocide Memorial is excellent. It is well laid out and there is a lot to learn about how genocide starts historically with words and promises from leaders to keep people safe from threats, and leads to atrocities all of us are capable of.There is something about the simplicity and small scale of the memorial which is deeply affecting. The audio tour is very helpful. The whole experience made think, and feel.

Conveniently situated close to Victoria Island. It is a very comfortable, clean and well situated hotel. There is obvious effort to ensure guests have international standard experience. EXPLORE : Nike Gallery Nike Gallery is a gold mine of interesting arts and crafts, from the minute you walk in you are made to feel welcome, the staff are courteous and knowledgeable. The range of different artists work and the diversity is something to behold. You will be amazed by the vibrant colors and materials that these talented artists are using.

JOHANNESBURG EAT : The Leopard, The Leopard

is a high-end, quintessentially Joburg restaurant serving sophisticated, innovative food in a relaxed atmosphere. Owner/ chef Andrea Burgener, a Melville local herself, creates South African dishes with a quirky, modern flair. Although the menu is relatively expensive by South African standards, prices are extremely affordable by international standards. The Leopard’s decor, with mismatched tableware and antique prints on the walls, feels like a modernized version of your grandmother’s dining room.

STAY: the African Pride Melrose

Arch Hotel, The rooms were incredibly clean, the staff was courteous and helpful, and the hotel was surrounded by nice restaurants and cool shops. I felt very safe on the grounds. The hotel’s decor is very unique and modern. The rooms were very spacious and the bed was incredibly comfortable. After a long 21 hour travel day it was exactly what we needed.

is Johannesburg’s premier tourist attraction and an essential stop for anyone who wants to learn about the turbulent, nearly unthinkable story of South Africa’s harsh racial segregation laws. Apartheid is not an easy concept to understand and visiting the Apartheid Museum is bewildering and heartwrenching, but worth it. The museum brings a complicated era of South Africa’s history alive.

Le Léopard est un restaurant haut de gamme a Joburg servant une cuisine sophistiquée et innovante dans une atmosphère détendue. La Propriétaire et chef Andrea Burgener, une Melville locale elle-même, crée des plats sud-africains avec un flair excentrique et moderne. Bien que le menu est relativement cher selon les normes sud-africaines, les prix sont extrêmement abordables selon les normes internationales. Le décor du léopard, avec de la vaisselle et des gravures anciennes sur les murs, parait comme une version modernisée de la salle à manger de votre grandmère.

Séjour: l’hôtel African Pride Melrose Arch, Les chambres sont incroyablement propres, le personnel courtois et serviable, et l’hôtel est entouré de bons restaurants et boutiques. Le décor de l’hôtel est très unique et moderne. Les chambres sont très spacieuses et incroyablement confortable. Le trajet depuis l’aéroport international d’OR Tambo est vraiment agréable et n’est pas trop long du tout. Le personnel est très serviable. EXPLOREZ: Le Musée de l’apartheid est l’attraction touristique de premier plan a Johannesburg et un arrêt essentiel pour quiconque veut apprendre l’histoire turbulente, presque impensable des lois sévères de ségrégation raciale de l’Afrique du Sud. L’ Apartheid n’est pas un concept facile à comprendre et visiter le Musée de l’apartheid est déroutant et déchirant, mais vaut la peine. Le musée apporte une ère compliquée de l’histoire de l’Afrique du Sud.

Good Indian food menu, varied menu to include Pizza and other dishes, not just Indian. Nice terrace, and indoor hall. Perfect in the evening. Good service and fairly priced. I always take friends to eat there

STAY: Acacia Village, Acacia is a

fantastic place to stay, hidden behind the compound walls is a relaxed, hyper clean, friendly and welcoming village. The staff, Management down are all very, very helpful, great service and excellent food. The rooms are very clean, with AC and en-suite, the little touches make all the difference. The pool is clean with ample seating and loungers, very quiet and private! Overall Acacia is the pearl of Juba, when work and compound life gets to much, take a break here and the batteries are recharged!

Traditional Cattle Market, The White Bull is prized and sacrificed for celebration as a symbol of peace after struggle. The cattle market near the city center has herds of cows that cross town going to the market. The bulls have horns up to six feet long and are a sight to watch. The White Bull is a popular beer in Sudan and Red Bull is the most popular imported energy drink – I’m sure you’ve heard of it!

KILIMANJARO MANGEZ: SPICE ET HERBES, Très bon

SEJOUR: Acacia Village, Acacia est un

endroit fantastique pour séjourner, caché derrière les murs, c’est un village décontracté, hyper propre, chaleureux et accueillant. Le personnel, la direction sont tous très, très serviable, un excellent service et une excellente cuisine. Les chambres sont très propres, avec climatisation et salle de bains, les petites attentions font toute la différence. La piscine est propre avec de nombreux sièges et transats, très calme et privé! Dans l’ensemble, Acacia est la perle de Juba, quand le travail et la vie vous prennent beaucoup, faites y une pause et les batteries sont rechargées!

EXPLOREZ: Marché traditionnel des bovins: Le taureau blanc est prisée et sacrifié pour la célébration comme symbole de paix après la lutte. Le marché de bétail près du centre ville a des troupeaux de vaches qui traversent la ville allant au marché. Les taureaux ont des cornes jusqu’à six pieds de long et sont un spectaculaire à regarder. Le White Bull est une bière populaire au Soudan et Red Bull est la boisson énergétique importée la plus populaire - je suis sûr que vous en avez entendu parler!

CAFE AND STEAKHOUSE TIP, This was quite an interesting restaurant with touches of the Austrian Alps mixed with local African. It was a quiet, peaceful place to have some nourishment. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here, the waitresses were friendly and welcoming and the meal was tasty. We went for lunch and though it’s not a huge menu it was very good, African dishes are big at lunch. If you’re hankering for a steak then you can have one here very cheaply as dishes

STAY: Mountain Inn, The hotel is situated at a good location it’s 6 km from Moshi town to the hotel, so it was easy for us to go town for shopping. The hotel is at the area which is attractive, quiet and safe. The rooms are huge enough, very beautifully for the way it’s decorated with African materials, clean with nice arrangement of bed sheets. The bathrooms are big, clean and one could go for either hot or cold water for shower.

It is a giant stratovolcano that began forming about a million years ago. There are several different routes to take up the mountain including Marangu, the easiest climb (and therefore the most popular), Machame, Shira, Umbwe, and Rongai.

à 6 km de Moshi ville, donc c’est facile d’aller en ville pour faire du shopping. L’hôtel est dans la région qui est attrayante, calme et sûr. Le personnel est sympathique et serviable L’hospitalité générale est excellente surtout les réceptionnistes, leurs compétences de service à la clientèle est génial avec un bon sourire pendant la conversation. Les chambres sont assez grandes, très jolies pour la façon dont elles sont décoré avec des matériaux africains, propre avec un bon arrangement de draps. Les salles de bains sont grandes, propres. Les équipements de l’hôtel sont assez bien et y compris le Wi-Fi gratuit, le service de télévision par câble, et une très belle piscine.

most picturesque restaurants in Dubai. Apart from its pleasant oriental décor, it offers great views of Burj Khalifa from its outside terrace. This restaurant is located in The Palace Downtown hotel which is an upscale 5-star property. The buffet is one of the best in Dubai so far. Ewaan’s roast station with lamb and beef roast marinated and cooked to perfection. The rest of their food is predominantly Arabic, Asian and Continental, which is a good mix.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

TAKE-OFF:

Immediately after takeoff the aircraft climbs very steeply. Shortly afterwards you will hear a reduction in the engine sound, but the aircraft will continue to climb. All aircraft cabins are pressurized. Due to change in pressure during takeoff and landing, some passengers may experience slight discomfort in the ear. Relieve this by swallowing, yawning or pinching the nostrils gently and breathing out whilst keeping lips sealed. Should you feel unwell at any time, please ask the cabin crew for assistance.

LANDING:

After touch down, you may notice an increase in engine noise level due to the reverse thrust being applied to assist braking. Please remain seated until the engines have been switched off and the doors are opened. Before leaving the aircraft, ensure you have all your belongings with you. Always keep your belt fastened until the plane comes to a complete stop.

The position of your seat can be adjusted by pressing the button located at the arm rest. For take-off and landing, all seats must be in the upright position.

Electronic Devices may not be used during taxiing, take-off, climbing, descent and landing. This includes laptop computers, remotecontrolled games, radios, portable TVs and mobile phones, all of which may interfere with the safe operation of the aircraft.

Once upon a time there was a good old woman who lived in a little house. She had in her garden a bed of beautiful striped tulips.

ne night she was wakened by the sounds of sweet singing and of babies laughing. She looked out at the window. The sounds seemed to come from the tulip bed, but she could see nothing. The next morning she walked among her flowers, but there were no signs of any one having been there the night before. On the following night she was again wakened by sweet singing and babies laughing. She rose and stole softly through her garden. The moon was shining brightly on the tulip bed, and the flowers were swaying to and fro. The old woman looked closely and she saw, standing by each tulip, a little Fairy mother who was crooning and rocking the flower like a cradle, while in each tulip cup lay a little Fairy baby laughing and playing. The good old woman stole quietly back to her house, and from that time on she never picked a tulip, nor did she allow her neighbors to touch the flowers.

The tulips grew daily brighter in color and larger in size, and they gave out a delicious perfume like that of roses. They began, too, to bloom all the year round. And every night the little Fairy mothers caressed their babies and rocked them to sleep in the flower cups. The day came when the good old woman died, and the tulip bed was torn up by folks who did not know about the Fairies, and parsley was planted there instead of the flowers. But the parsley withered, and so did all the other plants in the garden, and from that time nothing would grow there. But the good old woman's grave grew beautiful, for the Fairies sang above it, and kept it green - while on the grave and all around it there sprang up tulips, daffodils, and violets, and other lovely flowers of spring.
