Like his dam, it is hard to find a fault in HOMER’s profile. He will sire moderate stature while adding above-average frame width. He’s an easy-to-use sire that will complement Goldwyn bloodlines.

President’s Perspective
Hello Iowa Holstein Friends,
The term “Expect the Unexpected” surely must have been coined to reflect this year’s Iowa weather. We certainly have had an unusual Winter, with extreme dips and peaks in temperatures and moisture.
Our Minnesota Holstein Neighbors braved the cold and snow, to travel by bus, to several elite herds in Eastern Iowa, on January 20th. Host farms on this crisp, cold day, were Le-O-La Holsteins, Farnear Holsteins, Moondale Holsteins, and Henkeseen Holsteins. I was able to join in the tour at each of the farms, and as usual, was amazed and proud of our Iowa cattle.
2023 Iowa Holstein Princess
Hello Iowa Holstein Members! First and foremost I would like to thank all of you for giving me another year to represent our association. I have enjoyed being able to talk to all of you and have been welcomed by all.
Secondly, I would like to thank my parents, Bill and Shellie as well as my sisters, Brylie, Brenna, and Brielle. Without you guys helping me get to events and being there whenever I needed I don’t think I could have done this.
Lastly, thank you to the Holstein cow for instilling in me the passion that I have today.
Hopefully, most of you have been entertained by our college basketball teams this year. Both Iowa and Iowa State Men’s and Women’s teams have been thrilling!
Congratulations to all the award winners, recognized at our recent Iowa Holstein State Convention, held at The Delaware County Fairgrounds, recently.
The Iowa State Holstein Sale and Raffle will be on March 16th. I hope you are all getting your tickets sold, and purchasing some for yourselves, as this is our main fundraiser for the year! Show up early, in case you are fortunate enough to win a choice of our impressive raffle calf selections. It should be a fine sale, as well!
This years National Holstein Convention will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, under the Theme “Udderly Utah.” Our delegates from Iowa will be; Kyle Demmer, Trent Henkes and Mark Knudtson. Contact one of them if you have some input. It should be a great destination, if you decide to go. Good luck to our Jr. Teams!
As of this writing, we will be having our bus tour to Illinois and Southern WI, April 2nd & 3rd. I hope many of you can take a couple days away from the farm, and enjoy the comradery of your fellow dairymen.
Once again, have a safe spring and enjoy the Beauty of Nature!
Your President, Walt Wessel
After finishing out my reign, I will continue to work for Central Star as a DHI Specialist, working alongside my mom as well as working with my own herds. I have enjoyed working with and alongside all of you and appreciate the support and kindness you have all shown me over the past two years. If there is anything you would like help with or just want to reach out to me, my email is brynleev03@gmail.com and my phone number is (319) 2406266.
Again thank you all so much for such an amazing two years!

Iowa State University Dairy Science Student Profile
Name: Adrianna Kruse
Hometown: St. Ansgar, IA
High School: St. Ansgar
Class Size: 37
Farm Name: Breezy Oaks Holsteins
Major: Agricultural Business
Why did you decide to attend ISU:I decided to attend Iowa State University for many reasons. I wanted to be the 3rd generation student at Iowa State in my family. Iowa State University has a reputation for being one of the best agricultural schools in the country, so I knew it would be a great place to expand my knowledge. Lastly, it is only 2 hours from home, which makes it easier to go home on the weekends to work with the cows and see family.
What are your most memorable college experience:
My most memorable college experience has been volunteering for "I Milked a Cow" at the Iowa State Fair. I am a member of the Dairy Science Club that puts this on every summer as a fundraiser. I loved this experience because I got to teach children and adults that have never touched a cow about where their milk comes from.
What has been your favorite course and why:
One of my favorite courses has been Dairy Cattle Evaluation (Animal Science 335). I have really enjoyed this class because it's a class where I get to talk about cows for 2 hours. I am currently enrolled in this class so I've only been in it for 5 weeks and we look through picture classes and soon we will be going to the Iowa State University Dairy Farm. This class is a precursor to being on the Dairy Judging Team. I have been judging dairy cattle through 4H and FFA since I was in 3rd grade, and I would love to judge in the future at local shows.
What are your future career goals:
This May, I will begin my internship at Select Sires Member Cooperative working in Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota as a breeding intern. It has been a dream of mine to work for an AI company. This will also be a helpful internship so that I can breed my cows and heifers at home. I have not decided what I want to do in the future, I am hoping to work in the agriculture industry in some capacity.

Robert “Bob” Dean Brown was born September 19, 1936 to Elmer K “Mike” and Marguerite (Hansel) Brown in Manchester, Iowa. He passed away peacefully at home on his beloved farm on February 5, 2024. Bob attended country school in Mallory Township for one year, then attended and graduated from Colesburg High School in 1954. He played on the 1952 state championship baseball team. After graduation, he farmed with his father and worked in construction until enlisting in the United States Army. He served in the transportation unit at Fort Devens, Massachusetts from April 1959 to April 1961. While in the Army, he married Janet Rose Bockenstedt on December 30, 1959, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley, Iowa. Bob & Janet started their married life in Leominster, MA and moved back to Colesburg in 1961. They started farming next door to where Bob grew up on Skip Level Road. Four children were born to this union, and together they milked cows, raised hogs and beef cattle; growing the farm over the years.
One of Bob’s greatest joys was being a farmer, and he loved living on Skip Level for over 75 years of his life. Over the years, Bob was a 4-H leader, served on the Ed-Co school board, the Keystone AEA board, and the Clayton County Planning & Zoning board. He was a longtime member of the William F Brockmeyer American Legion Post #582 and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where he served as a eucharistic minister.
