Our Spring/Summer issue of Arizona Bride explores two of my favorite—and arguably most important—parts of the wedding day: food and fashion. Both decadent, both detail-oriented and both feasts for the senses. If you think about it, when recalling the many memorable moments of a wedding day, fare and flair are always top of mind: a gorgeous gown, creative ways to serve hors d’oeuvres, late-night bites that hit just right, bridesmaid style and maybe a fun footwear choice a la Air Force Ones.
With couture as our North Star, we ventured up to the inimitable Enchantment Resort in Sedona to capture bridal looks for every festivity—from bridal shower to bachelorette, rehearsal and beyond. Under the guidance of the designers at Shine Events and sharp-eyed photographer Melissa Ivy, a team of incredible Arizona vendors transformed a sprawling venue lawn into a charming New England-inspired oasis, bringing the beauty of springtime to the desert. The intricate styling combined traditional and modern elements. Under a classic sail tent, the design focused on light wood tones and a trio of unique table settings, each featuring its own distinct style, with the through line being the timeless blue-and-white buffalo check pattern. Ample florals in soft hues of sky blue, blush and buttery yellow added elegance to every corner, with roses and ranunculus creating garden-style installations that seemed to overflow onto tables, framing the entrance and lining the opulent aisle. And with five uniquely designed cakes, this styled shoot added a whimsical twist on wedding traditions, making it a truly unforgettable scene. With an enchanting miniature meadow of delicate blooms surrounding the bar and large floral arrangements floating above, the event felt like a dreamy springtime retreat with a touch of East Coast elegance.

PICNIC PERFECT
Emily Peters and Ryan Boivin took their English garden-inspired wedding day to a new level of cottage-core fantasy. Buds in an array of soft spring hues seemed to sprawl from every corner of the event. Florals were featured on the bar sign, cascading down their cake and cake table and blossoming from their welcome sign flower box. A standout detail of the day was the seating chart, with table assignments nestled in potted arrangements. Also unique was a bloom element inspired by the bride’s request to replace the traditional bridesmaid bouquets with something more suited to her style; floral arrangements were crafted in picnic baskets for the bridesmaids as if they had gathered them in a nearby meadow before heading down the aisle. The delicate ribbon-woven baskets were a charming detail, repurposed as additional centerpieces for the head table, making the floral-filled fantasy for their wedding day a delightful reality. —Ryley Hoff

SEAFOOD, REIMAGINED
For the OYSTER BOYS (@azoysterboys) , the world is their oyster—they’re stepping outside serving on the half shell tableside and providing a memorable experience for guests at any event. “We offer couples a unique seafood experience by roaming around during cocktail hour and shucking fresh premium oysters from our oyster belt, then topping them off with sauces like horseradish aioli, cocktail sauce, and Champagne mignonette,” says founder Michael Meschino, who received culinary training at Johnson & Wales.
The husband-and-wife-founded team grew up on the open sea and have a passion for sustainable, fresh and high-quality seafood, which is paramount in their business today. They partner with Chula Seafood, a local Arizona company that helps specially source and fly oysters from the best regions. “We continue to work with and source our oysters from small family farms that have the same passion as we do,” Meschino adds. “Like our granddad always said, ‘There’s nothing better than sharing the jewel of the sea with the rest of the world.’” —Chelsea Gibson

Tucked away in picturesque Flagstaff, The Sycamore event venue sits among trees, open fields and stunning vistas of the San Francisco Peaks. The star of the show is the venue’s classic white barn—photogenic to say the least. For a group of Arizona wedding vendors, inspiration for a wonderfully western day came from none other than the property’s residents: horses. With equestrian elegance on their minds, they dreamed up a sweeping scheme that displayed a palette of red, brown and orange. Blasé buffets and underwhelming entrées are a thing of the past as we’re seeing caterers flex their creative muscles and serve up interactive, immersive experiences where flavor reigns and presentation is everything.
With this in mind, Krystal Gardenia of Gardenia Weddings led a talented team of pros to bring this culinary vision to life at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. Atlasta Catering delivered excellence through every course with their perfectly curated menu and food styling, Zinnia Floral Co. brought flower power, and Pearl’s Mini Donuts closed the day with cute-as-can-be confections, a study in how incorporating elements like a grazing table, a family-style dinner and a nontraditional dessert can transform an ordinary reception into a truly memorable event.

Everyone’s favorite pit stop at the wedding, the bar, has moved way beyond beer and wine— think custom cocktails, mixologists, his and hers drinks, guest preferences and intentional garnishes. “A thoughtfully curated bar can round out the entire dining experience for the guests,” Gardenia notes. “For this shoot, we showcased multiple specialty cocktails, offering a refreshing alternative to the usual choices. Something as simple as elevating your glassware or including fun garnishes can enhance your bar experience.” And don’t forget the mocktails. “For those guests who don’t partake in alcohol, offering a mocktail option is a great touch. A signature nonalcoholic drink makes sure everyone feels included.”

“For appetizers, we highlighted a grazing table—a perfect option to encourage guest interaction during cocktail hour,” Gardenia says. “This spread invites guests to sample different offerings at their own pace. It adds a layer of communal engagement and creates a more relaxed environment for mingling.”
Perhaps the biggest perk of a grazing table is that the options are endless! Customize it to offer what you love as a couple, what’s in season, and so much more. It doesn’t have to be the only appetizer option either. Gardenia explains, “To ensure that everyone is accommodated, we combined the grazing table with passed hors d’oeuvres to avoid bottlenecks and provide variety.”

The options are plentiful when it comes to reception dining styles: buffet, stations, plated, family style. “For this editorial, we showcased family-style dining, a concept that is often underutilized. It strikes a perfect balance between the elegance of a plated meal and the warmth of a buffet,” Gardenia says. “Family-style dining is ideal for smaller weddings or if you are prioritizing intimacy and interaction between your guests. Passing dishes around the table creates a shared experience, encouraging guests to interact with one another in a natural and meaningful way.”
THE DESIGN
Throughout the day, Southwestern style reigned, with an elevated, modern twist. “We wanted to create a look that draws from the natural textures and tones of the desert landscape—travertine, stone, ceramics—while infusing it with rich colors and lush details,” Gardenia explains. This inspiration took shape in bright, lively blooms in shades of orange, green, and yellow arranged by Zinnia Floral Co. and neutral décor details on the tablescape. “From the formal table setting to the intricate textiles and patterns, every element in this shoot was intentionally selected to showcase a refined and curated look. The choice of stone dinnerware, travertine accents and terracotta details reflects the earthy tones of the desert while maintaining a sense of sophistication.”

Incorporating beloved finger foods and interactive desserts surprises and delights your guests. “Moving away from the traditional tiered cake, we chose Pearl’s Mini Donuts’ cart for this shoot,” Gardenia notes. “The idea of fresh, madeto-order donuts adds a sense of playfulness and excitement, allowing guests to engage with the process and enjoy a treat that’s warm, flavorful and personal. A sweet conclusion that leaves a lasting impression.”

As the warm desert sun cast an effervescent glow over Scottsdale, an elegant event took shape on the rooftop of Caesars Republic Scottsdale. Designer and planner Ellie Burton of Gatherings by Elle describes the vision behind the shoot as a "modern desert vibe" that sought to harmonize the venue's sleek aesthetic with touches of clean, sophisticated details.
Elegant yet simple, the architecture of the venue lent itself to the color palette of the event. Arch and Arrow constructed invitations bathed in romantic simplicity, ushering guests into an alfresco, sunset ceremony. Uniform wooden chairs gazed upon a verdant floral arrangement provided by Laki Floral that gave way to the altar. And then, the stars of the show, the bride and groom—a couple in real life—donned a classic A-line gown and a smart suit, respectively, to enjoy their stylish celebration.
My goal was to create INTENTIONAL imagery that complemented the sophisticated design and AESTHETIC of the venue, while seamlessly incorporating our LOVE for the Arizona desert.

With vistas and a setting sun in the background, the sweet ceremony led into the warm-toned reception, bursting with simple details that packed a design punch: "clay" table numbers accented with sleek taupe candles that expertly matched the white-and-peach centerpieces and grounded floral pieces throughout the space. "The moss at the bottom of the arrangements was to add an organic vibe against the textured linens," Burton notes.
Diners found their seats in a sea of tables. Walnut rattan chargers held crisp porcelain plates topped with place cards that doubled as menus. Wooden utensils complemented the contemporary glassware, and pale green details brought an extra nod to the nature surrounding the venue. The darling couple toasted the end of the evening in their plush suite, reflective of newlyweds everywhere who look forward to that quiet moment with their beloved all day.
The team created a serpentine layout with round tables, featuring FLORALS that ECHOED the color-blocked hydrangeas in the ceremony.

Amid an abundance of roses, Rylee Cragun and Chandler Woodward celebrated their union with an intimate and elegant wedding at The Acre. Inspired by their mutual adoration of their European travels, the couple wanted to incorporate as much of their experiences abroad as possible to transport their guests. White and soft pink florals were featured above the archway to their reception dinner, cascading from a grand piano and peppering each and every table. The rich blooms complemented the classic black-and-white color scheme and accented the subtle lace of the bride’s unique gown, which exuded Old-World sophistication. Chandeliers hung beneath lush greenery, and candlelight warmed the space to create an elevated and welcoming environment for their reception, during which the couple was treated to a rendition of their wedding song played by the bride’s sister, who also happens to be a concert pianist. In a nod to the couple’s first “I love you’s,” the seating chart consisted of handwritten letters to each guest, amplifying the specially crafted and deeply personal atmosphere of their momentous occasion. The evening was capped off with a quick change for the new Mrs.—a retro jumpsuit covered in sequins—and a celebratory sparkler exit. —Ryley Hoff

Ashley Pruitt and Jalen LaMarca celebrated their union with a beautiful view from Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix. They both attended the same high school in Kansas City, but they never interacted with each other. That is until fate brought them together when Jalen “slid into Ashley’s DMs” years ago, and they reconnected in Kansas City over the holidays. The couple loves to have fun and enjoy watching Arsenal soccer—Jalen even managed to catch a part of the Arsenal game on their wedding day! A nontraditional but classy vibe was chosen for the wedding, so bronze became the star color of the day. It was enhanced by the florals, an aspect of the wedding in which the bride had been deeply involved; she even included her grandmother’s favorite flower, orchids, in her bouquet. The event was glowing with bright smiles and nods to the couple’s history, such as Kansas City, where they grew up, and Scottsdale, where they live now. Ashley and Jalen’s dogs also made an appearance as custom figurines that sat on the wedding cake. The first dance was choreographed to “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone, which then gave way to an upbeat dance floor. At the end of the night, bottles of LaMarca prosecco were given to guests in honor of Ashley and Jalen’s new shared last name. —Calishia Vang

Danielle Mendez and Chris McGinley shared a day with friends and family to celebrate tying the knot. The pair met at a hospital in Los Angeles, as they both work in health care, and eventually fell in love. The chosen venue for their wedding was a way to bring in an element of nostalgia for Danielle, who is from Scottsdale, and grew up visiting the expansive club with her family. Guests were welcomed into the beautiful venue by crooning violinists, setting a sophisticated tone for the momentous occasion. The wedding was a study of monochromatic excellence, with vibrant shades of blue, reflective of the couple’s bold personalities. The ceremony, heartfelt and intimate against an installation of white blooms, was punctuated by a fun prank by the bride in which the ring bearer had “forgotten” the rings, so guests had to look under their chairs. Danielle dazzled in a flowing A-line gown featuring beading and floral appliqués throughout while her groom donned a deep blue ensemble to coordinate with the day’s décor. Attendees dined under towering navy structures holding crystal chandeliers before snapping fun photos in the cheeky Vogue magazine photo booth. A playful celebration ensued at the after-party as cocktail hour bars transformed into disco bars, complete with aerialist bartending and a drone show that lit up the sky. Kanisha Bello and Taylor Candelario’s wedding married both the couple and two distinct motifs: Hawaiian tradition and Arizona’s natural landscape. With 40 of their closest family and friends flying in from Hawaii, the couple chose a stunning Airbnb venue nestled among the iconic red rocks of Sedona. Both nurses originally from Oahu, Kanisha and Taylor wanted their wedding to reflect both their island roots and their new life in Arizona, creating a unique event. The décor was inspired by their desert surroundings, incorporating pampas grass, toffee-colored roses and potted cacti that highlighted the boho, earthy vibe of their ceremony and reception. Special touches included custom bridal party outfits made by a friend from Hawaii and polaroid-style cookies featuring pictures of the couple, helping to personalize the day. Hawaiian traditions played a significant role in the day, with family members bringing leis and Maile Leis from Hawaii, symbolizing love, devotion and respect. The ceremony was filled with emotion. When the wedding party paused to soak in the moment before walking down the aisle, the excitement brought everyone to tears. Each guest had a freshly squeezed juice shot at their seat, and once Kanisha and Taylor were pronounced married, the entire group joined in a celebratory cheer as Kanisha’s brother shouted “Cheehoo!”—a traditional Hawaiian expression of happiness. —Lizzie Parish

A dreamy disco in the desert served as inspiration for the celebration of Claudia (Chloe) Masco and Paul Kelley’s wedding. The fun-loving couple wanted to highlight their personalities, opting for an array of both handmade and custom-ordered design touches that allowed their vision to shine. The lively and colorful bridal party popped against the serene desert landscape alongside the vibrant hues of blue, orange and yellow florals and meticulously crafted pom-pom strings. The Southwestern disco vibes were further brought to life by Chloe’s sparkling beaded gown—not to mention her flat-brim hat featuring an elegant string of pearls—and Paul’s bespoke embroidered suit featuring cacti, snakes, florals and, of course, a newlywed alien couple in a spaceship. After a deeply personal exchange of vows filled with laughter, the sun set on their desert wedding and the vivid hues of their décor deepened as the moon rose. Guests dined at minimalistic tables featuring potted cacti, eclectic vases sporting bright colors and hot pink tapered candles to continue the funky motif. The bride donned a bedazzled two-piece fringe set for dancing, which is how the happy couple spent the rest of their evening in celebration of their love ... on a custom cow-print dance floor. —Ryley Hoff
