NEW BEGINNINGS
I am over the moon to be new managing editor of Nebraska Wedding Day ! With years of experience working at a luxury bridal shop, I am excited to bring my knowledge in bridal fashion to the forefront of Nebraska Wedding Day. I have been obsessed with magazines since I was a kid, biking to the local Walgreens to buy the latest edition of Vogue, a Slim Jim and an Arnold Palmer—still my go-to convenience store purchases. I am eager to get to know more of you in the Nebraska wedding community! To the ones I have met, worked with and celebrated alongside, thank you for welcoming me with open arms!
For my debut fashion shoot, I had the privilege of styling a collection of looks featuring modern gowns with artful accessories, set against the newly renovated art museum, The Joslyn (page 30). A CELEBRATION OF THE INDUSTRY’S FINEST
A bright, cheery color palette was on full display for Nebraska Wedding Day ’s Best of 2024 awards at The Fountains Ballroom. Planned and designed by Rachel J. Events, the inspiration behind the event was the artist Henri Matisse. Vibrant hues and bold prints were effortlessly complemented by lush florals and lively patterns. Guests were welcomed with Aperol spritzes and delicious food. The joyous theme was enhanced with artistic details like custom installations, unique linens, live music and, of course, everyone’s playful attire.
CEO and owner Sonja Babich took to the stage to say a few things about the wedding world. Sydney Stevens presented the editor’s choice awards, then Brooke Beise took to the stage to talk about the wonderful Nebraska wedding industry. The finalists and winners were voted on by readers, followers and the wedding industry in our open online voting earlier this year. The awards brought forth laughter and happy tears. A celebration was in order post-awards; guests gathered to dance the night away and enjoy an array of desserts.

GARDEN ROMANCE
Romance was abloom at Lauritzen Gardens for Julia and Connor Mislivec’s dreamy soirée. Conceptualized by 402 Events, the refined garden party immersed guests in an experience brimming with divine details, otherworldly foliage and delicate blossoms. Pops of fuchsia and blush complemented the forest-like setting, from the bridesmaid gowns to the fanciful stationery and escort card display. Adding a layer of enchantment, grand custom-built arches adorned with cascading greenery and accented with an array of blooms hung over the ceremony aisle. The Victorian Gardens hosted a cocktail hour laced with whimsy, complete with bubbly, and garnished with flowers, elegant umbrellas and passed hor d’oeuvres that created a magical ambiance. Illuminated by candlelight, the intimate reception felt like a dream come true with a banquet-style table set beneath bowering greenery.

Bridal designer ALYSSA KRISTIN (@akristinbridal) is known for her modern gowns that effortlessly balance sexiness and elegance. At New York Bridal Fashion Week, the Chicago-based designer unveiled a new collection featuring a range of mini dresses. Driven by the belief that confidence is a woman’s most striking feature, they designed a collection of stunning Mikado bodices and skirts that can be mixed and matched. This flexible approach allows brides to create their perfect little white look.

A dull and dingy ring is a common complaint among the newly engaged and the long-married alike, but for SHINERY (@shinery) founder Brea Fullerton, it sparked the creation of a first-of-its-kind product. Fullerton pushed herself to bridge the “significant gap in how we care for our jewelry compared to other valued items in our lives” with the creation of her Jewelry Wash, a hand soap-meets-jewelry cleaner that makes it easy to care for high-quality gems. Gary and Mollie rented a mini-golf course from Roaming Greens Mini-Golf Co. for guests to enjoy all night long and showcase the groom’s passion for golf. “It added a playful touch to the celebration and gave everyone a chance to mingle and relax in a memorable way,” Mollie says. Engaging activities reflect the couple’s thoughtful effort to entertain their guests, transforming the day into an enjoyable experience in which everyone becomes an active participant in the celebration rather than just an observer. From lawn games and crossword puzzles to photo booths and an audio guestbook, the options are endless.
What sweeter way to thank your guests than the gift of flowers. Denie Jacobson, owner of The Kindling Co. and The Kindling Co. For their wedding day, Amber Caniglia and Scott Anderson wanted a venue completely unique to them—so they built one on their own property! The bride and groom were considering a destination wedding because they weren’t sure if their idea of a wedding on their property was just a fantasy, but they were thrilled to find their dream could be realized thanks to 402 Events. The process started with removing the house that had previously existed in the space they intended to use for their nuptials. The team then reworked the land, fabricated steel and
glass structures overseas, and crafted it all together. Accented by gorgeous tropical florals, the space housed a reception with a dance floor, dinner tables, a lounge area and even a tattoo station with flash tattoos inspired by the couple’s interests. Over the course of four short months, this impressive feat resulted in a one-of-a-kind lakeside venue for Amber and Scott to celebrate their love.

Evoking a feeling of happiness, an array of cheery colors decorated Arbor Day Farm for Kate and Seth Williams’ nuptials. The floral-focused design sought to highlight the beauty of summer. From rich oranges and golden yellows to luscious lavenders and soft pinks, the shades worked in harmony to create a cohesive composition among the pristine grounds of the venue. The bridesmaids’ pink patterned gowns echoed the delicate floral border of the stationery. Vibrant botanical installations beautifully framed the couple during the ceremony, showcasing an assortment of rainbow hues. Even cocktail hour libations and a simple two-tiered cake with pastel blooms were a perfect match to the organic theme.

Tropical Splash
This radiant concept is the quintessence of maximalist joy. A zesty palette starring sunny tangerine, Caribbean blue, fiery red and more exceeded Shyann and Alex Morsey’s expectations for their spring wedding day. Originally wanting a classic white and green wedding, the bride changed her mind when planning and asked Gabi Hughes of Unfolding Events to play with pigments, resulting in an explosion of color at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Floral meadows garnished tables, complementing the blue linens. A soft glow from purple and peach candles shed light on the colorful plated water glasses and the pretty paper goods that graced each place setting.

Baby blue, soft pink, buttery yellow and tangy orange mirror the twilight of a Midwestern sky. Olivia Reinert and Angelo Wignall’s Bohemian Gardens wedding reflected the hues of a Nebraskan sunset. The bridesmaids, dressed in varying shades and carrying parasols, not only complemented the enchanting surroundings but also added a trendy twist to the day. Playful signage, bamboo-frame folding fans as seat assignments, citrus accents and unique vases elevated the eclectic atmosphere. A pink-themed table featured delightful details including a Lambeth-style faux cake as the card box and a retro phone serving as an audio guestbook.

Gold accents add a touch of grandeur, present in the cutlery and napkins. Mackenzie Lambert and Ben Searl’s wedding day was a gorgeous blend of elegance, charm and garden-party glam. Their celebration kicked off at the iconic Cottonwood Hotel, where Mackenzie treated her bridesmaids to matching PJs and bubbly, complete with a photo op featuring newspapers and Champagne flutes. After a sweet first look at the hotel, the two shared a Catholic ceremony and private vows at St. John’s Cathedral, savoring a quiet moment before the festivities began. After the ceremony, the couple braved a romantic rainfall to capture some stunning shots in the rose gardens. The reception felt like a fairytale with lush, dreamy florals inspired by European gardens and a cake that perfectly showcased the botanical aesthetic. Cocktail hour featured “The Teddy,” a Moscow mule named after their pup, and delicious passed appetizers to set an inviting vibe. Two standout moments stole the night: Mackenzie wowed everyone by changing into her mother's wedding dress, and, later sang a surprise serenade to Ben. The dance floor was packed all evening, complete with feather boas, fun glasses and late-night pizza. From the moment they met each other at a Huskers game day celebration, Madison Kozisek and Mohamed Barry were inseparable, which is why it was no surprise their wedding day was a fun-filled evening of elegance and ease. Both bride and groom both wore white, Mohamed striking in his suit, and Madison the portrait of refined and timeless beauty in her fitted gown accented by a delicate string of heirloom pearls gifted by her mother. The bride carried her white tulips—her favorite flower—and airy white baby’s breath framed the couple as they exchanged their vows in front of friends and family. The reception space was fresh and light with greenery and string lights to accent the minimalist aesthetic. Mohamed and Madison had participated in the traditional Muslim Nikah ceremony of signing their marriage license the night prior as a kickoff but wanted to incorporate more of Mohamed’s culture into their wedding day, so the pair and their daughter Mia surprised attendees with a second grand entrance wearing traditional outfits made in Guinea. The reentrance electrified the evening and encouraged guests to spend the rest of their night dancing in celebration to punctuate Madison and Mohamed’s effortlessly romantic union. — Ryley Hoff

Gourmet food, exquisite wines and creative details were at the forefront of Meg Drahota and Kane Adkisson’s waterside wedding day at the bride’s parents’ waterside residence. Meg stunned in a sleek fit-and-flare gown as she and Kane, outfitted in a dapper three-piece ensemble, said “I do” beneath an arch garnished with blooms in late-summer hues. Influenced by bright and bold color palettes, the couple worked with Gabi Hughes of Unfolding Events to bring their vision to life. The color “Mallard” from a linen sample supplied by BBJ La Tavola was the center of the design and acted as a nod to the groom’s birdhunting hobby. As Kane is a James Beard semifinalist chef, providing a one-of-a-kind dining experience featuring the best food and beverage was paramount. Cocktail hour kicked off with caviar bumps, a grazing board and napkins featuring heartfelt messages the bride and groom have shared during their journey of love. To mimic the movement of water, serpentine tables adorned with Mallard tablecloths, petite lamps, patterned napkins and modern paper goods hosted the intimate two-course culinary feast. In lieu of a Champagne toast, the newlyweds provided a red wine toast using a discontinued 2015 bottle from Nine Suns, an homage to one of the first vineyards they visited in Napa together. From first kiss to last dance, Meg and Kane’s wedding perfectly reflected them as a couple, capturing their love story in a magical celebration that was uniquely and quintessentially theirs. —Sydney Stevens

The pair, having friends spread out over the entire country, wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to have all their loved ones in one spot with an exciting and light-hearted evening. Not only were guests greeted by a custom shot wall with their favorite Pink Whitney Vodka, but shot boys also walked down the aisle to start the ceremony. Haylie and Maddy exchanged vows as a proclamation of their love in front of their friends and family, which they encourage other couples to do. After a happy tear-filled ceremony, the reception, featuring a laid-back barbecue buffet, commenced. Reflecting on their nuptials, Maddy and Haylie’s favorite part of the evening was when they stole away and watched from a distance as their guests were surprised with a mid-reception firework show. The lush, outdoor setting complemented Marissa's vision of a spring-inspired wedding day, with fresh greens and blush pinks present in every detail. Marissa dazzled in a Toni Federici veil intricately stitched with floral elements, which she later swapped for an elegant floor-length neck scarf for the reception. Her bridesmaids wore varied shades of green, creating a lovely contrast with the groomsmen's classic suits. The reception was brimming with warmth and love seemed to bounce off the winery walls. The décor carried a sophisticated wildflower theme featuring tables adorned with organic clusters of bud vases filled with pink and white blossoms. Equestrian elegance meets contemporary chic was the theme of Lydia Robertus and Josh Banderas’ wedding day. Despite attending middle school, high school and college together, romance didn’t bloom until the end of Lydia’s college career when Josh won her over with ice cream at Pioneer Park. After Josh’s sister’s wedding, the couple jokingly said, “We could do this!” and that joke soon became a reality when they decided to create The Acreage together. It only made sense their wedding would be the first celebration to grace the new space. As avid horse riders and animal lovers, they wanted the venue to exude a refined vibe with equestrian flair. “The entire building reflects our interests and time together as a couple,” Lydia says. On the day of their marriage, Lydia traded her cowboy boots for heels and opted for a sleek high-neck gown while the groom chose a classic tux and black hat for the occasion. Cocktail hour was dreamy with a saxophonist serenading guests as they sipped on libations with napkins featuring the couple’s dog and drink stirrers with their three cats on them. A timeless black-and-white palette matched the venue flawlessly with warmth from gold accents and candlelight. White florals decorated the tables and grand steps while minimalist table décor made the space Lydia and Josh worked so hard on shine.
