This issue of California Wedding Day is a stunning work of beauty. I don’t say this lightly, considering I have been the editor-in-chief of more than 30 magazines over the past 12 years. We traveled near and far to capture the latest styles for brides and grooms. At Enchantment Resort in Sedona (page 84), we focused on fashionable outfits for all those special wedding events, from the bridal shower to the after-party. Since we couldn’t jet off to Europe, we journeyed to Temecula’s dreamy Europa Village to showcase chic, fashion-forward gowns (page 62) from leading designers, including Sébastien Luke, Netta BenShabu, Kim Kassas, Liz Martinez and others. We elevated men’s fashion to a new level (page 74) with dapper looks from Friar Tux.

A bright, cheery palette was on full display for California Wedding Day ’s Best of 2024 awards at The Majestic Downtown. The Henri Matisse–inspired event was the picture-perfect way to celebrate the California wedding community. Art was the central theme of the evening, with Cristina Tudor wowing everyone with her fashion illustrations, and Narbeh Leon painting a gown by designer Luly Yang. As the cocktail hour came to a close, the muchanticipated awards ceremony began. Thanks to Page Beauty, BreLuxe Beauty and Van Gundy Diamonds, the California Wedding Day team was camera-ready. Iron Diamond Media CEO and owner Sonja Babich and Editorial Director Lara Burnap announced the Best of 2024 winners. The awards were a cause for celebration, with everyone gathering in The Reserve and Catwalk afterward to continue the festivities. Congrats to all the finalists and winners!

Nestled in the heart of Orange and once a Craftsman-style home, The Richland now operates as a full-service hotel and events venue. Drawing inspiration from Luxe Linen’s French impressionism line “Tea Rose Degas,” NPD Events and Blissfully Styled Events teamed up to highlight the space. “We wanted to make you feel like you were in a dream, floating through Monet’s garden, falling more in love with each mystical photo,” says Karen Sieger of Blissfully Styled Events. The vision came to life via a dreamy color palette of dusty rose, deep green, blush, peach, gold and ivory.
The ceremony space was transformed into a garden meadow, which featured a bountiful altar showpiece and floor arrangements that appeared as if they were growing up from the ground. Atop the reception tables, whimsical florals played off clean white place settings, pink glassware and dainty flatware—a combination that was romantic, soft, earthy and elegant. Other details included two masterful confections from CocoaBerry Cake Co. and a sparkling Champagne tower to cap off the celebration. For a fun getaway, the couple took a ride in a vintage electric cart whimsically expressing the European vibes the team sought.

LONDON CALLING
Integrating cultural traditions and personal experiences into your wedding day is a surefire way to make a wedding uniquely your own. Maddy and Matt, who met while studying abroad in London, held a formal, garden-inspired wedding filled with sentimental details that acknowledged their families, their heritages and their love story. In the ceremony at Basilica De Alcala, the bride wore her mother’s mantilla veil, and the couple incorporated Maddy’s parents’ wedding lasso into the ceremony. The party then moved to The Prado at Balboa Park in San Diego, where the cocktail hour featured charcuterie and antipasto, a must for the groom’s East Coast Italian family. One of the most remarkable details was the handcrafted green London-inspired telephone booth that served as a photo booth, built by Maddy’s uncle. Another bow to England was the card box in the style of an English mailbox. The telephone booth has since become a fixture in the couple’s home, serving as a sweet reminder of both their wedding day and the first time they met. —Lara Burnap

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido has always held a special place in bride Mary’s heart. Although her father died shortly before their wedding, Mary and James honored his memory by hosting their nuptials in the spot he held so dear. With giraffes towering in the background and their family and friends gathered around, the bride, donned in a Vera Wang gown, and the groom, dapper in forest green, exchanged vows in the breathtaking safari landscape. Attention to detail and recognition of the venue permeated the day, from natural elements incorporated into the floral design to a giraffe motif adorning the stationery. A traditionally low-stress option that can really make a splash, a buffet involves a display of self-serve food options, often all from the same or a similar menu. Guests can load up on plenty of options or grab a ton of their favorite dish.
“Thoughtful presentation, with elegantly arranged dishes and décor that matches the wedding theme, can make a buffet feel just as refined as a plated meal,” says Jamison Evans, owner and lead wedding planner at Jamison + Tania Events.

“Family-style dining is ideal for couples seeking a cozy and intimate wedding atmosphere that fosters conversation and closeness among guests,” says Angie Raygoza, director of sales at Colette’s Catering & Events. “To enhance this approach, consider incorporating communal centerpieces that also serve as part of the meal—imagine bread baskets or charcuterie boards seamlessly integrated into the tablescape, blending décor with dining in a harmonious way.”

Calling in a fleet of food trucks takes a lot of the pressure off—once you’ve booked your favorite local trucks to pull up and serve (for this type of service, it’s best if you’re hosting an outdoor reception), you’re done! Note: Most trucks provide disposable dishes and utensils, so if you want more durable options, chat with your planner.
“With a few thoughtful touches, you can easily elevate your food truck reception while maintaining a sophisticated vibe,” assures McKenna Folmar, founder of Events by McKenna. “First off, use real plates, napkins, cups and silverware. Additionally, keep your formal reception tables and chairs; by setting up traditional seating, you give guests the option of enjoying a seated dinner, allowing for those special moments like toasts and speeches. Invest in elegant florals throughout the venue and on the trucks themselves. Lastly, you can create custom signage for each truck to display the menu items; this can help tie the entire look together and make the setup feel intentional and well-designed.”

A MEXICAN-THEMED FIESTA RADIATES AT OAK CREEK GOLF CLUB IN IRVINE
Catering powerhouse 24 Carrots Catering & Events officially welcomed Oak Creek Golf Club into the 24 Carrots Collection with a Mexico City–inspired soirée. Brimming with bright colors and vibrant cultural elements, the event treated guests to a unique menu that paired traditional Mexican ingredients with contemporary culinary techniques.
Located in Irvine, Oak Creek Golf Club features a world-class Tom Fazio–designed golf course. Both the natural beauty of the golf course and the elegant club offer an intimate and serene setting, with lush landscaping, Spanish-inspired architecture, rustic stone terraces and expansive grounds for hosting the wedding of your dreams.
For this festive celebration, Oak Creek was transformed with eclectic décor, which included luxurious lounge vignettes, florals, candles and fresh fruit to enhance the venue’s warmth and versatility.
Bartenders poured classic cocktails with a twist like a mole old-fashioned and an espresso martini made with Abuelita chocolate. The catering pros debuted their new chef-directed pasta station, which served street corn cacio e pepe out of a wheel of Parmesan. Other culinary delights included mariscos and parrilla stations, as well as interactive dessert station featuring churro semifreddo sandwiches.

Inspired by Sherwood Country Club’s newest event space, Valley Vista, Anita Casano Kanellis of AK Brides and Emma Seitz of Leta Verbena, together with a team of talented wedding professionals, curated a design to showcase the sophisticated alfresco ceremony site. Accommodating as many as 350 guests on more than a quarter acre of land, this expansive spot features panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, making for a breathtaking backdrop. “I wanted to focus on the view of the new space,” notes Kanellis, the shoot’s planner and design expert. “The ceremony had to have a big impact without obstructing the gorgeous view.”

A palette of cream, caramel and ivory complements the rolling greenery and natural elements of Valley Vista. The candle-lined aisle leads to a stunning acrylic structure draped in elegant florals. “I really wanted to do something different,” Kanellis says. “I felt the acrylic structure created a powerful effect, yet it appeared as if there wasn’t any structure at all.” This choice allows the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains to take center stage while still maintaining a dramatic focal point.

To create a cozy ambiance in such a large space, decadent swaths of linen cascade, ripple and flow from the vaulted ceiling. The dramatic reception table features timeless details in a rich palette: black bentwood chairs, velvet napkins in fern green, mauve tapers and marble dinner plates. “We emphasized the height of the space by crisscrossing and swooping panels of sheer fabric over the tablescape for interest and drama,” says Render. “Nothing uniform, nothing symmetrical.”
Rava Wines is known for its 17,000-square-foot ballroom, a breathtakingly massive space with natural light streaming in from the gorgeous rolling doors, skylights and abundant windows. Because of all that spaciousness, couples do not typically consider the venue for intimate gatherings. “That is where the power of draping comes in,” says Jen Render of Elle Render Events about the ballroom at Rava.
With so much MOVEMENT being provided by the draping element on the walls and overhead, the table really needed to be MINIMAL , with classic elements to ground the design.

The invitation suite strikes a lovely balance between timeless and modern in the deep green palette with embossed details. A backdrop of layers upon layers of billowing texture accents the cake, a beautiful three-tiered creation with a ribbon-like design cascading down its side.
Set against a sweeping backdrop of black pleated linens, a grand tower of dirty martinis creates a dramatic moment. Render takes the dirty martini to a whole new level by adding a selection of gourmet stuffed olives from Primo’s Gourmet Foods. Stuffings include blue cheese, lemon, garlic and jalapeño.

Playful and undeniably romantic, Kendall Fisher and Easton Fier’s wedding reflected the joyous nature of their eight-year relationship. The pair was introduced by a mutual friend, and on their first date, Kendall found herself enamored with his mischievous nature—after discovering that Easton had been faking a British accent the night they met. Although sparked by a little white lie, their relationship was built on a shared love of Frank Sinatra, extra dirty martinis and laughter. Hotel Californian provided the perfect venue for the pair to adorn with groovy pops of color and eclectic style. The outdoor ceremony space was transformed into their whimsical Gucci Garden vision with vibrant flower arches of red, blue, pink and pale purple. The bridesmaids, dressed in an artful array of bold colors, walked down the aisle with biodegradable balloons in hand, in lieu of flowers. In honor of Kendall’s late mother, the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” recorded by the late Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole, was played in tribute as they released the balloons into the sky before Kendall walked down the aisle. After the couple’s emotional exchange of vows, the guests were ushered to a rooftop sunset cocktail hour, which was accompanied by a four-piece jazz quartet. The personal touches were plentiful, such as the “Cash Bar,” named after their beloved dog, custom pink matchbooks and butterflies—a symbol of Kendall’s mother—which were a featured motif on the dance floor and dinnerware. To set the tone for a night of revelry, Kendall and Easton led a short dance party after their grand entrance. On an unseasonably beautiful January day, the crisp blue skies stayed clear and bright for Sarah Rodriguez and Anthony Daniels’ wedding day. The couple was intent on their union being one of elegance and unbridled joy as they united their large group of friends and family to honor their unique love. Two hundred guests gathered at the Bel-Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades for a quintessential California celebration. Sarah was dressed in a simple form-fitting gown and a lace mantilla veil, and Anthony was dapperly dressed in a classic black tux. Both of them glowed in the light of the late afternoon sun as they professed their love in front of their many guests and no fewer than 18 groomsmen. With such a large wedding, it was important for the couple to foster a sense of intimacy through personal touches. Anthony’s family signage company crafted the welcome sign and bar menu on unique slabs of marble that were sourced by the couple. The hand-sketched seating cards, mounted on a bright blue display matching the coastal skyline, featured Sarah and Anthony’s most beloved places, such as Big Sur and the Fresh Garage Patio, a favorite date-night spot. And in lieu of a champagne tower, the bride and groom opted to pour their favorite wine, “Love You Bunches,” over a pyramid of coupe glasses. Once the pack of guests had dispersed from the candlelit dance floor, Sarah and Anthony balanced the natural elegance of their wedding by treating their guests to a late-night snack of In-N-Out burgers, the perfect finish to a California-style wedding. —Ryley Hoff

Tina Ngo and William Chin’s wedding day was a vibrant tapestry of culture, love and personal flair. They began the day with an intimate Vietnamese tea ceremony at Tina’s family home, where Will’s family made a grand entrance with a feast of gifts and a whole roasted pig. It was important to the couple that they honor their ancestors with incense and tea offerings, a heartfelt tradition that set a joyful tone for the day. The industrial Hangar 21—a space the couple has adored for years—was transformed into a dreamscape with an abundance of hoi an lanterns flown in from Vietnam. “Since red is a lucky color in our cultures, we aimed to fill the venue with red through florals and lanterns and added pink to soften the look,” says Tina. The lanterns’ design was modernized by color-blocking the hues and adding in images of anthurium flowers. The highlight of the day was the couple’s grand helicopter entrance at the reception, a thrilling tribute to the countless flights they took during their long-distance romance. “Try not to leave your partner’s side during the day. Everyone is going to try and pull you in all directions, but when you look back on your wedding day, you want to be able to share in all the same memories,” says Tina. “Trust in all your vendors 100% to handle the nitty-gritty so that you can fully live in the moment with your partner. Though they had known each other for years, they had never been single at the same time—until that fateful day. Patrick turned to the bride and boldly declared, “I’m going to marry her.” He wasn’t wrong. Fast-forward to Napa Valley, where Courtney and Patrick’s wedding planning began with one simple goal: timeless elegance. “We wanted a monochromatic, white-and-ivory theme with just enough modern touch to be current but enough elegance to be tasteful for decades to come,” Courtney explains. With Napa’s rolling hills as their backdrop, minimal décor was the key to letting the natural beauty shine. They skipped the traditional cocktail hour, opting for a seated wine tasting—a nod to their love of wine and the setting, as well as a perk of hosting a micro wedding. On the wedding day, guests gathered for an outdoor ceremony in which Patrick walked down the aisle to John Mayer’s cover of “XO.” Courtney followed to a stunning rendition of “Simply the Best.” Custom vows sealed their commitment in a heartfelt, intimate moment. At the reception, the dessert table overflowed with sweets, honoring Patrick’s love for them and Courtney’s passion for baking. The festivities kicked off with a lively mehndi, during which Sabrina’s henna artist incorporated Farhan’s name into her design using a deep shade of henna. The following day, their gaye holud brought family and friends together in a colorful ceremony during which the couple was showered with gifts and painted with turmeric paste, a traditional blessing to give their skin a radiant glow for the big day. Dressed in yellow, the couple enjoyed performances, including a Bollywood-style skit that humorously captured their love story. The wedding day at Hummingbird Nest Ranch was a dreamy affair among olive trees, where Sabrina and Farhan exchanged vows in front of a floral altar that wove through the branches, creating a wild yet romantic garden motif. The ceremony included meaningful Bengali traditions, such as the mirror ceremony and a garland exchange, symbolizing their eternal love. Their reception continued the garden theme with pastel hues and modern furnishings that perfectly combined elegance and playfulness. Rain couldn’t stop Sadie Selby and Jack Murphy’s wedding celebration from being a truly magical day. The couple exchanged vows at the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa and continued the party at The Penny events venue. Sadie and Jack are nurses in Texas, but they chose to get married in their childhood town because it holds a special place in their hearts. The couple met while attending a Catholic school in downtown San Luis Obispo and grew up near the mission where the ceremony took place. As the couple walked down the steps of the church after the ceremony, they exchanged hugs and tears with their friends and family. The rain accompanied the couple and their bridal party on their walk to The Penny, giving the experience an enchanting atmosphere. At The Penny, verdant florals in shades of blue, peach and green were dotted with white wildflowers for a rustic accent. The father-daughter dance showcased Sadie and her father re-creating a dance from her childhood. Big-city girl Kimmy Miura stole the heart of Montana boy Alex Lesowski during a game of mini golf, a story that inspired Amorology’s design for their wedding. “Playful greens and organic earthy touches alluded to Alex’s love of golf and their shared love of the great outdoors,” says owner Heather Baillet. “Reminiscent of their favorite lyrics from ‘Then’ by Brad Paisley, we created a space that reflected their ever-growing love and the greener pastures that lie ahead.” Kimmy and Alex exchanged vows overlooking the water while surrounded by a verdant arrangement of florals. As cocktail hour approached, guests were greeted with a wondrous sight: Over the cocktail space hung 1,000 paper cranes blowing in the breeze, a beautiful acknowledgement of Kimmy’s heritage. As a subtle nod to the couple’s defining date at the course, guests found their assigned table on calligraphed wooden links underneath a sign that read “Better Together.” The reception was thoughtfully curated with long dining tables adorned with lush florals in shades of cream, butter yellow and sage green; wood chargers; scallop-edged ceramic plates; and soft sage linen napkins with cream and gold flatware. Linen-covered chairs and rattan pendant lamps that hung overhead created a cozy and intimate space. In the final hours of the night, guests gathered to play glow golf on the resort’s golf course in honor of a love destined to be well above par for the course. —Calishia Vang

The couple’s Armenian heritage was celebrated through the joyous, rhythmic beats of an acoustic band playing traditional instruments as it led them into the reception. Riannan Altvater walked into a bar for a fun night with friends, and Aaron Carman happened to be there working a shift. Of course, neither expected to meet the love of their lives. “The bar may be gone, but our love remains,” Riannan remarks. Two years after that meeting, they found themselves tying the knot in the whimsical wonderland of Madonna Inn. Their wedding, a vibrant ode to vintage kitsch, perfectly blended Riannan’s love for all things retro and Aaron’s passion for film. Rather than follow tradition, the couple opted for a laid-back celebration with no bridal party or rehearsal dinner. Instead, they hosted a welcome party in the Madonna’s Secret Garden for all their out-of-town guests. Riannan and Aaron shared a private first look in the garden before the ceremony, which was officiated by Aaron’s father while they stood under a golden cherub. Each guest was handed a heart-shaped card and a Polaroid camera to capture memories during cocktail hour. The couple’s personal touches were everywhere, such as Riannan’s custom sweetheart mermaid dress adorned with a large bow and velvet bows tied to water glasses as escort cards. The reception was a journey through the decades, with music starting in the 1950s and progressing through the 2000s, turning the night into a nostalgic dance party. Before ending the night with a private dance in the inn’s Austrian Suite, the two sneaked away for a flash photo shoot. “My favorite moment was seeing her walk down those steps during the ceremony,” Aaron recalls. “I knew the next 15 minutes would change the rest of my life.” —Allexa Whitehouse

Under the beautiful September skies of California, Avery Hazelrigg and Chris Caskey hosted their wedding at Parker Palm Springs, a perfect choice since its chic and fun aesthetic pairs well with the couple’s lively relationship. The two met at a beach bonfire party in high school, and then, years later, Chris proposed to Avery in Florence, Italy. Pink, Avery’s favorite color, was melded with Chris’ love for Palm Springs—desert vibes and mid-century modern—to create a bright and sophisticated atmosphere. The backdrop for the ceremony featured lush flowers, including roses, dahlias and anthuriums, to create a whimsical environment. A curving aisle imbued the moment with a fairy-tale aura. After the couple’s exchange of vows, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and signature cocktails, which were accompanied by custom cocktail napkins starring their cat, Fig, and emblazoned with “I do too.” The reception featured elegant pink details, white linens and clear tableware, and even included a custom checkered dance floor. The bride and groom made a whimsical grand entrance by dancing to “We Go Together” from Grease, one of the many memorable moments of their special day. “In the middle of dinner, Chris and I walked to the corner of the room and just looked out at everybody, and both our families all in one place,” says Avery. “And we just soaked in the beauty of all the details.” —Calishia Vang

When Kimberlee Schreiner met Cole Altazurra at an art show in Venice Beach, the two instantly bonded over their love for creativity, and they became inseparable from that moment forward. Though they spent countless dates at galleries and museums, they also found they shared a love of nature. Their wedding at Casa Romantica Cultural Center & Gardens was intended to reflect the time they’d spent hiking and camping as well as their mutual nostalgia for their childhood memories of days spent on the beach. Playful yet moody, thoughtful bundles of unique florals lined the aisle and ceremony space, with the bride herself holding a bouquet of stunning organic blooms with hints of greenery to match the lush and spacious venue. Kimberlee stood out beautifully against the colorful scene in her simple yet elegant open-back slip dress and pleated veil, with its hints of lace applique. Looking dapper in his beige suit, Cole shed tears as he watched his beloved walk toward him and the rest of their life together. The guests, in colors just as vibrant as the florals surrounding them, enjoyed a lively cocktail hour of drinks and decadent charcuterie while the newlyweds shared a private moment on the beach. Returning to a rich yet organically styled reception, Kimberlee and Cole relished the beauty of their wedding. Rachel and Andre’s wedding day unfolded in a cascade of floral splendor, beginning with a ceremony that was set against the serene backdrop of a tranquil waterfall. The aisle was adorned with a profusion of lavender, dusty rose and blush blossoms, which then gracefully wound its way up the ceremony arch, creating a lush, enchanting entrance. At the reception, towering trees draped in pastel blooms stood beside grand arrangements of roses in soft hues, while gold-rimmed velvet chairs brought a luxurious touch to the scene. Elegant wisteria flowers hung overhead, transforming the space into a floral paradise. The head table made a stunning focal point, with a floral installation suspended above the pastel tablescape, which was softly lit by an array of candles. Each table featured distinctive touches, such as Grey Goose vodka bottles and purple glass goblets, while the sweetheart table exuded opulence with its candles of varying heights. The six-tier wedding cake, adorned with blush roses and intricate gold details, was a breathtaking centerpiece. The festivities were heightened by live performances, including a band and burlesque dancers, who entertained guests throughout the evening. Despite the desert heat, Japanese parasols, both stylish and practical, kept guests cool while introducing an exotic element to the photos. The ceremony took place at the couple’s breathtaking private residence, which offered an intimate and comfortable environment. The lush surroundings provided a picturesque backdrop for the ceremony, and a chic cocktail hour in the backhouse allowed guests to mingle and enjoy the serene desert ambiance. Following the ceremony, guests were treated to a second cocktail hour at Ingleside Estate, which features an elevated poolside view. As the sun set, the festivities moved indoors to the elegant Melvyn’s, where the grand entrance led into an exquisite dinner. In a serendipitous twist of fate, Émile Nelson and Rachel Tassano found themselves saying “I do” on the 11th anniversary of their very first date. What began as a college romance—ignited when Émile mistakenly called Rachel by the wrong name—flourished, becoming a lifelong commitment, with their wedding taking place at the breathtaking Tuscan Rose Ranch. “It felt like we were in Italy, but we were just miles from where we grew up,” Rachel reminisces. The couple’s Old Hollywood–inspired celebration was anything but ordinary. Created in a palette of classic black and white, and accented with verdant florals, the wedding exuded timeless elegance. Their beloved dog, Bongo, was a special part of the day, sporting his “natural tuxedo” as the ring bearer and escorted by the flower girl in playful flower-shaped sunglasses. The lavender fields of the venue inspired a signature hisand-hers lavender Collins for everyone (of age) to enjoy. Guests reveled in the vintage photo booth, striking their best Hollywood poses, while family and friends packed the dance floor, celebrating late into the night. As the evening drew to a close, Rachel and Émile shared a private dance, soaking in the magic of the day before making a grand exit under sparkling LED streamers. “We wanted it to be timeless, so we could focus on celebrating with our loved ones,” Rachel says, “and it was even better than we imagined.” —Allexa Whitehouse

“I just met my husband,” Anna gushed to her roommates after developing a crush on Mason at first sight in the first class of her sophomore year of college. But it was fate that brought them back together via Bumble, and they quickly fell in love. The couple got engaged in a vineyard and then relocated to California, it only seemed natural for the couple to choose Nella Terra as their venue. There, the stage was beautifully set for integrating their cultures. Under a canopy of trees, the couple was married in a traditional Lebanese Maronite wedding ceremony, a silver crown gracing each of their heads as they promised their lives to one another. Guests were guided to their seats after taking on the challenge of completing a crossword puzzle detailing aspects of the bride’s and groom’s relationships and personal lives—a touch that paid homage to their love of games and familial daily Wordle competitions. In a setting of rich garden-style centerpieces, the reception was the highlight of the night. Anna danced with her father to the tune of a Lebanese song she used to beg him to sing to her, leaving the entire room misty-eyed. Guests riotously enjoyed lifting Mason—whom Anna affectionately refers to as a “human giant” —onto their shoulders in customary Lebanese celebration. “We had Americans doing the dabke, a traditional Lebanese dance, and our Lebanese guests dancing to Beyonce,” Anna says, reflecting on the unconventionally beautiful cultural melding of her marriage to Mason. “It was the wedding of our dreams.” —Ryley Hoff
