WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) The three elementary types of developable surfaces are cylinders, cones and tangent surfaces of space of curves. A cylinder surface is made up of parrellel lines. It can develop an oblique circular. A cones surface consists of all lines connecting from only one point by central extrusion. A tangent surface is similar to the cone one, and the difference is its strips are not joined from one point.

Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) It is important because it helps architects to create a rigid and stable structure. One example is Huyghw + Le Corbusier Puppert Theatre. It is clear that its both interial and exterior surfaces are all made up of lines, and this patern of panels assemble the whole building.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION

Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) Digital Fabrication is the process of constructing design through using digital technology. All the process will be controlled a computer with machine tools. 3D model building softwares helps the designer to reduce the time load of making models and explore more style by using tools.

Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) Firstly, folding can increase the complexity of models. All the intricate structure can be constructed through folding. Seconding, folding can save times. Large structures can be simplified into small pieces, and combine together eventually, and no additional materials are required.
