Home and Surgery Visits The Mobile Vet is proud to be an independent veterinary practice offering both affordable home visits as well as a convenient central surgery in Newport. We’ve always strived to provide the very best care to all our clients and are looking forward to the new year to continue expanding our innovative services. Last year, we were the first island vets to offer laser therapy and a full endoscopy service allowing us to perform key hole surgery. We upgraded our waiting room, including our new bespoke cat lounge and opened our retail shop offering pet toys, leads and collars, natural healthy treats and essential accessories. Our laser therapy is a ground breaking new treatment that stimulates the body’s own healing systems to treat a wide range of conditions including arthritis, joint stiffness and promote faster wound healing - it’s fast and pain free. Results have been tremendous with many dogs being able to walk and exercise happily without relying solely on painkillers and it’s usually covered by pet insurance too. This year we’re continuing to expand our range of services. Our new pet nutrition clinic can offer advice on diet, especially if they’ve put on a few pounds over Christmas! We continue to develop our state of the art diagnostic facilities, expand the surgery and will be welcoming some new faces soon too. For more information, you can telephone us on: 01983 212999, visit our website at: www.mobilevetsurgery.co.uk and follow us on Facebook for the latest news.

What’s happening in our area by ‘Local and Vocal’ Lora Peacey-Wilcox Wishing you ALL, GOOD HEALTH for 2019 and much prosperity!!! FLOATING BRIDGE: SAVER CARDS: I cannot stress the importance of purchasing one of these. It will help to increase efficiency. I think we would all agree the time needs to move up a gear. CHAINS RENEWED: At some stage during January the chains are going to be renewed as they are 3 years old. I requested this 2-4 day changeover is done when the tides are not good so kills two birds with one stone. ROAD WORKS STAPLERS/FAIRLEE During this period we are hopeful (good suggestion Nicola) to be able to offer a better/maybe discounted tickets to use floaty. HOWEVER, only available with saver card so pick up and register quick! (or get caught in traffic in Newport!) Thanks to all staff who worked over Christmas and New Year. ROADWORKS AT STAPLERS: Due to much needed new water main going in. Due to last up to 3 months. One lane closed. Have requested lights at Coppins are altered accordingly...! You can see all programmed current and future works on our website here http://www.islandroads.com/157-islandwideroadworks-live.html RED FUNNEL CHARITY OF THE YEAR, VOTE FOR HOSPICE! Please log onto www.redfunnel.co.uk and follow link to register to nominate Mountbatten Hospice. PLEASE! My personal thanks to all the staff that were able to keep us visiting relatives during the festive period with their sailings. LAW CENTRE: The IW Council are proposing to 12

stop funding this VITAL service. I shall be doing all I can to help support the law centre and keep it operational. BUSINESS PARKING PERMITS: The IW Council are stopping these. What are your thoughts please? It allows shop owners (who do not live in their town) to park in resident parking zones. MEDINA YARD: Not much to report, other than I am insisting on being involved at every future stage with developer and planners. Its disappointing/gutting/devastating that the application went through. Not sure why people thought it would ever be built... Sad they did not listen to me about a small multi storey car park which is DESPERATELY needed in the location. PELHAM ROAD: HOW FRUSTRATING!!!!!!! Was due to be resurfaced and then does not happen AGAIN!!!!!! I was furious. Sorry to the residents and the 85 car owners all driving around looking for alternative parking spots. I did get the signs removed, but should not have taken that long. Island Roads blaming it on the weather, personally those days were pretty good as far as I could see. MEDINA VALLEY and Union Jack Shed: IW council are working constantly to get up an agreement to be able to purchase the site. Not sure why they didn’t do the same for Medina Yard??!! As long as we can support our shipbuilders is what is my priority. So will continue to do all I can to ensure that happens. LIVE STREAMING OF IW COUNCIL MEETINGS: Ever wondered what the meetings are like? Well, you can watch live via youtube on Wednesday 16th January at 6pm. continued over the page

What’s happening in our area by ‘Local and Vocal’ Lora Peacey-Wilcox DENTISTS: Like many of you I have had to move to Bembridge for my treatment. Bob Seeley MP has really worked hard (because I was on his case like you wouldn’t believe!) to try and get to the bottom of the problem. Like with GP’s there is a national shortage of NHS dentists. That is the fundamental issue affecting us. Some of the NHS practises were not hitting their targets of patient referrals, others were doing well. East Cowes are trying to recruit extra dentists to cope with demand. I will keep you updated. Well done Bob, on highlighting to government ministers and for thorough response back. DREDGING OF RIVER MEDINA: Will take place between January & March 2019. (limited area) look up on Cowes Harbour Commission website for exact details. As always, if you need more info on any of the above, get in touch. lora08@sky.com
