Juneisoneofmyfavouritemonthswith thesummersolsticeonthe21st June markingthefirstdayofsummer.Inmy opinionthereisnobetterplacetobe duringthesummerthanhereonthe island.ThisistheseasonwhenIliketo spendmoretimeoutdoorsthanIdo inside.

I’vepreviouslymentionedinotherissues howIliketogetoutandexplorethe islandonmybicycle,enjoyingregular stopsatlocaltearoomsandonother daystakingapicnicwithmetoenjoy eitherinthecountryside,oneofthe manyparksordownontheseafront.TheIslandisagreatplacefortravellingontwo wheelsandmyfoldinge-bikemakescyclingapleasure.Myselfandmyhusbandeven takeourlittledogwithuswholikestotravelinstyleinhisownlittledogtrailerbeing towedbymyhusband!!Honestly,heisn’tspoilt!

StagBeetlesarenationallyscarce,withmostrecordscomingfromsouthernEngland.Oneof thereasonsfortheirdeclineisourgeneraltendencyto'tidyup'deadorrottingwood,timber andgreenspaces.Asplacesforthemtoshelterarelostorbecomeisolated,fewersuitable habitatsforStagBeetlesexist.

Theyspendmostoftheirlifecycle undergroundasalarva.Thiscanbe anywherefromthreetoseven yearsdependingontheweather.
